Shadows and Shade #6

Power and Pentad: Part Two

Rate this book
♥ Power & Pentad Part-Two promises the reuniting of our beloved harem, the introduction of long-awaited key players in the battle to win this war, Shade finding her Alpha voice and Pax learning to trust mortals (well, a select few mortals) as well as a bubble bath scene, shower scene, and the beginning of answers to so many of the questions we've all been waiting for (though not all of them). ♥

** The following contains spoilers from books 1-5 **

We ended Kitten and Allure with the big split up, Killian, Roarke and Seth headed for the White Castle and the promise that Jada will secure them seals and the ability to ride straight back out. Allow them to rescue Pax and Thane from having their soul ripped out. We all knew that would go bad – didn’t we?

The guys ended up having to plead their case to the White Castle Dignitaries, which left them stuck at the castle and drove them to the Veil mirror and a snippet of the moment Shade was attacked. Followed by three Elorsin’s rampaging through the castle – and I mean through. Right through the damned walls.

Until they were reprimanded into the cells, where Lithael decided to have a friendly chat about Shade’s existence. That guy sure is wary of the concept of a mortal being important to anyone. I mean, if he actually wanted to just hurt the Elorsins wouldn’t he kill the mortal, then see their reaction, and if she means nothing to them shrug it off and go on his merry way? Why be so suspicious and so determined for information and yet not want to kill her?

At least, not yet.

As far as Pax, Thane and Shade go, they’ve just left Hirana on their way, under Shade’s less than ideal directional sense, toward the White Castle. Which means they’re on a more direct path toward the Manor – because that’s the best landmark she has.

On that end of the map we have a newly revealed wolf to contend with, and we all know how stubborn they can be, a potion-tampered quill that no one is answering the messages of, a Null Elixir procured from under Eydis’ cottage still to be put to use, and a mage named Leon looking for them.

I am struggling so, so hard with this series right now. When it started out it had so much potential, and then it slowly started fading the deeper you went into the series. This last book was really hard for me to get through because of the HUMONGOUS amount of unnecessary detail, excessive number of POVs, unending inner monologues, and snail-paced plot advancement.

I was able to overcome this in the first 3 books, but then it all started going downhill when the author pushed readers to get the 4th book, which was a complete waste of time. There were only like two scenes in that book that were interesting, but which could have EASILY been included in one of the main books, making the 4th book completely unnecessary.

To top it all off, every character comes off like they have ADHD and can’t focus on what’s important for even a second (no offense to anyone with the diagnosis). Just for a couple of minutes to pass in the book’s timeline equals many, many chapters for the reader. It’s just ridiculous. I had to force myself to finish the last 40% of the book because of all this.

I mean we’re 6 books in and almost NOTHING has happened. Lithael still doesn’t even know Shade is a threat. It’s like these 6 books could have all been condensed into 2 with extreme (and very necessary) editing and then the series would have been a total winner with me.

I don’t need to know what every villain is thinking. I don’t need to know what every food tastes like. I DON’T need to know what happens every minute of every second of each and every character’s lives!! Seriously, enough!

At this point I just don’t know if I can pick up book 7. Not if it’s going to read like this.

This series went in such a bizarre direction.
I can't even... I had to go back & change my ratings to hopefully help some other poor reader from getting duped into this.
3 books of dragging on and on with no progress?
I'm done.
Dangling tidbits might keep some interested but I read too much to fall into that trap.

It honestly just keeps getting better and better.

In book 6, Shade was left with a weakening Pax, thanks to the return seal slowly trying to pull his soul back to the white castle.
Book 7 starts showing a side of Shade that I hope we get to see more of (in better circumstances). A side where, thanks to the return seal on Pax, she has to be the one to take care of and protect one of her men.
She has to take control and make decisions and not rely on her men to guide her. And I LOVED that part of this book.

This book has SO many things all happening and it truly is such an amazing book. I think we get to see a few of these men a bit different and definitely get to see Shade really coming into her own.

Killian surprised me in this book the most besides Shade.
Roarke is opening up little by little.
Pax/Thane are understanding each other more.
Seth broke my heart.
And Shade just keeps getting stronger and keeps loving wine.

I can only imagine the things we will learn as this series continues, and I will follow these characters into the Aeons to find out. ❤

I think I experienced every single emotion reading this one. I’m so enamored with these characters that it’s hard not to feel for them. To laugh with them, to worry for their safety, to cheer their triumphs, and to cry over their pain. This book had moments of all of that. I knew going into it that Shade would be in danger once more as the Elorsins all worked to reunite. This had the tension ratcheted high at times. There were moments of levity though. There was good to balance the heavy, and there were moments of connection which I longed for and the author rewarded the reader with. Amanda proves time and again that she is a masterful storyteller, capable of giving the reader exactly what they need by balancing everything so wonderfully. Having Shade back with her guys where she ultimately belongs was always the goal even if a lot has changed and things at the castle are in flux. I can’t wait to see what happens next after the epilogue. It always feels like I can’t get enough which just means I will be reading it again sooner, rather than later!

100% obsessed

Amanda does it again! This story continues to get better and better. I think this may be the book that Shade matures the most. She finally faces some situations where the Elorsin's really can't help her so she's got to figure sh*t out super quick. I love Shade's goofiness + sarcasm but I did like that she put some of that aside for the reality she was facing. I also liked that we got to see a lot of the Elorsin's weaknesses. Don't get me wrong, they're still the epitome of BaDaSsEs but they show some humanity in this book that they were lacking previously (which didn't bother me but I love some solid character growth).

Can't wait for the next book. I genuinely love that Cashure keeps me guessing with this series and kinda hope it never ends.

This series started out so strong and then it ended up so weird. Can't decide if the author is trying to milk it for more books or what but in reverse harem it does not make any sense to separate the heroine from the guys for a book and a half!

Do yourself a favor and skip. The beginning of this series was so promising and then you're dragged around for three books straight with hardly any forward movement and it just becomes tedious. Feel super cheated by a series that started great.

I love this series!

I love this series and would definitely recommend anyone on the fence pick it up! My one complaint about this volume is the pacing. The series as a whole is already slow-paced with each book only taking place over a couple days or a week, but this volume seemed to slow the plot even more with all the extra viewpoints. I love getting viewpoints of different characters, but I didn’t like that so many of the scenes were the same scene but from each character’s perspective. I’m a little concerned because I feel like the overall plot is getting lost in a million tiny details that don’t really advance the story. I do love how the relationships are developing between Shade and all her men and I can’t wait to see what happens next now that they’re all together again! I will definitely be picking up the next volume to find out what happens next!

Another fantastic addition to an already great series. In this book Shade is on her own with a weakening Pax. We see her “step-up” and handle herself. We get introduced to more allies and learn more about the enemies. The steam does go back down to a bare minimum but the rich story makes up for that. The guys background is still being given in small doses but it works for this story. It’s not just an information dump. It’s written much more realistic. I would highly recommend this book and this series as a whole.

This series ticks all the boxes, it’s perfectly balanced in intrigue, adventure, fantasy, romance, humor and action. It is so perfect that it’s almost painful, I’m dying to know what happens but I also never want to see the end. There is so much depth to the characters and story that I never want to stop reading about them.

Amanda you amaze me, I can’t thank you enough for creating this world and journey… even though you turn me into a greedy monster screaming for more the second I turn the last page.

For anyone waiting to read until the series is finished.. (I am normally that person, I despise waiting and cliffhangers) know that Amanda is a kind author, she doesn’t leave you in agony between books, there’s anticipation but nothing that will make you tear your hair out or cry.

The more I read this series the more I'm enjoying it.

Like the rest of the books, this one took place over a time period of only a couple of days. I don't really understand how so much can happen in such a short amount of time and yet at the end of the book I also feel like nothing much was accomplished at all.

Our book starts where that last left off with Shade traveling on the road to Drayden in the mortal realm with Pane or Thax passed out in a cart being towed by the horse. Her goal is to reach the white castle and get Pane and herself back to Killian, Seth, and Rourke alive. 630 pages later she manages to do just that. After returning to the white castle we spend an evening with her and the guys reunited and that's all there is to this book. Granted a lot happened on the road back to the white castle and more happened with Darkness, Chaos, and Allure at the castle but it was about 4 or 3 days' worth of time and it makes me feel like this story is moving way too slowly.

Still, I'm anxious to find out what happens next and look forward to reading the next book whenever it's released, I only hope that the story progresses farther than a few days in the next book.

I adore these books

Things are getting very, very, Very complicated - and the Pentad is racing to keep up with the ramifications. We get some answers here, as do the characters - but also far more questions brew. Our slow burn has finally jumped forward, though not quite as much as we might desperately want. On top of all that, The pentad finally reunited at the White Castle - after a dramatic escape and impossible last ditch effort.

It’s fast, deep, riddled with foreshadowing and hints just enough that what we think… might not be what IS at all.

I can’t wait for the next book!

This book was everything. It had some sweet moments and sexy moments. Shade is finally growing into her own. She's find the confidence she needs and putting herself out there to get what she wants. The guys are finally realizing that they don't have to fear being with her. Seth broke my heart with that 2nd to last chapter. I'm hoping to see some healing happen in book 7

I've missed Shade! It was great to be back with her and the Elorsin's. Some great cameos and lots of threads starting to weave together.
Shade is really coming into her own. I can't wait to see what happens next.
That last chapter - wow!

So Good!

I pre-ordered this book almost a year in advance. It was worth the wait. The entire world created is among the best I have seen. Amanda writes in a way that are apart of the world. I couldn’t put it down. When I had to I couldn’t wait to get back into the world. It felt like the never ending story where the boy is reading and is in the book itself. Such an awesome job Amanda! Keep it up!!

I love this series, but this book put me at my wits end.

Anyone who knows me has heard me rave about this series, I have recommended it to everyone I know. I genuinely love the series and I've reread the books before this so many times I've lost count. That being said this book was incredibly frustrating to me.

There are sixteen total narrators. That's a ridiculous amount of people at play, and characters are introduced then quickly forgotten throughout the book.

Hunter and her crew are all introduced and then quickly glossed over once they advanced the plot. We're given no more info on them once Shade and Pax leave them.
Jada, we only get one brief chapter on but we have no clue how she got back, what happens to her, just that she's up a creek without a paddle. She doesn't add much of anything and ends up feeling like filler.
Jaxx and Ben, I literally almost forgot they were in the book when I finished it. We have no idea if they're even important or just served to advance Shade's story as we never get an update on them after they're left with Hunter.
"Fiend", I was thrilled in P&P part one that her wolf was introduced, and excited to see where that went. The answer is, not very far. She pops in on occasion but isn't a fully developed character since she's not at full power.
We get brief mentions of the Veil Queen, Raefiya, Vidarr, Fleck, Lithael, and Kyra.

There's so much fluff in the first half, so by comparison the second half feels so rushed. It feels like Shade is constantly injured or at her power/exhaustion limit. They waffle between treating her like she's fragile and too mortal still, or saying she's an elite saber and needs to train, get better, etc.

This book is another full of stolen kisses, back and forth moments and "you're not strong enough" filler, it's honestly annoying. I can do slow burn, but this feels like we went backwards.

I also feel like the trigger warning in the beginning of the book needs to be updated. Near the end of the book when Seth is talking to Shade he says "I have a problem understanding why I'm here. Believing I should be here" and goes on to say "I have a problem existing". There's a bit more but all of it comes off like su!c!dal ideation. Maybe I'm reading into it wrong, but I've been in that place before and likely would have found that to be triggering.

My love for this series is still there, but after this one I'm a little more hesitant to pitch the series as hard as I have in the past. Overall it did somewhat advance the storyline but it just left me feeling frustrated. I did pre-order the next book with a ton of hope and faith in Amanda

This is not an slow burn romance, this is a: slow bored to dead. Because I have read every book only by pure willing force, come on! This books is so slow, every minute, each action, I can tell how many time those people pee. Every f*cking thought . The plot its good, has potential, but the time line it’s soooo sloooow, (she woke up, yawn, scratch her head, move her leg, went to pee, took a slice of bread). Could be better, too slow for me.

I loved this book so much. The whole series is so well written. When you have this many books in a series most authors just kind of rewrite the same thing over and over. NOT This Author. She is constantly surprising me so if you’re looking for a new series please jump in this one you will not be disappointed. Make sure you can stay up late because you’re not gonna want to put it down.

P&P 1&2 Review

I love this series. I’m obsessed with it. I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone; Shade is lovable and hilarious, the story is mysterious and interesting, and the relationships are realistic and get your heart fluttering. And I’m SO HAPPY P&P2 FINALLY sees our group reunited!!

The rest of the review is under the spoiler cut below.

Overall, I can't wait to see what comes next! I’m still obsessed with this series. I still love Shade, the Elorsins, and I’m so excited to finally see what happens!!! Can’t wait for Book 7!!!

To many POV's, yet too little happens

I liked the whole start of the series, though it reads like a YA and if I had know that, I never would have started it. You get Shades POV for the whole first book. Then next book Shade and one of her guys.... Okay, I would have been okay with just Shade, but I do like to hear other POV's as well. Next book, Shade and a different guy. You're starting to get a sense where its heading.... Then the author goes insane and decides we need like 10 different POV's in the next book... But then it turns out that the 4th book it isn't even the next book in line, no no no. The author wastes time doing a recap book, like we didn't JUST read all 3 books!!! That right there put this author on the "not likely to read again" list.

There is just way too much going on in this book, yet nothing really happens. We're introduced to new characters that apparently have their own book/series, but we get POV's from them anyway. There's just getting to be to many people and plots to hold my interest.

Its honestly a miracle I've made it this far. The authors incessant need to use the words "chuck" "chuckin'" and "brawls" as silly made up swear words has got to be the most annoying and most distracting part of the whole series. It pulls me out of the story just to wonder why the author had to be so dumb (really hoping she reads reviews and adjusts for future books). It maybe wouldn't be so bad if it had been explained why she chooses the silly words over real ones or just doesn't swear at all or if the words were used when Shade is talking out loud, but the author has her thinking them as well. I'd rather Shade just not swear, but she does... So her use of the authors made up swears is just truly annoying and distracting.

Wish I would have known the series wasn't complete, I would have waited. Next book doesn't come out for months, makes it unlikely to remember all the extra the author has been cramming into the story. Series just isn't good enough to re-read (like I do with other book series) when the next book comes out.

Rating this book wasn't easy, but I ended up with a five star review because these characters ultimately didn't let go of me even after reading over 600 pages. A lot of the previous reviews speak of a slow first half of the book, and while I partly agree with them, I also partly disagree. While reading this part of the book, I was also struggling with an intense need of all these characters coming back together again. But I realised a little after finishing the book, that I felt that way because I was worried about them and not because I was bored while reading. I wanted all of them to be okay and together again because I felt they needed each other to feel whole again, and I wanted to experience that with them. While certain parts of this book may feel like filler now, I believe they will matter later in the series. It's clear things aren't always what they seem in this world, and sometimes we need early clues for the ultimate story to make sense.

All these characters have their own little place in my heart, but after this book Roarke and Seth leave the most lasting impression. After reading the first two books, we wouldn't ever have believed they have such big hearts and hidden insecurities. But Shade is also finally getting closer to the most stubborn members of this pentad, and she's finally finding power within herself. I am so curious to find out how this story will continue; right after posting this review I'm gonna preorder the next one.

I’m sure I say this every time I review a book in this series, but this story just keeps getting better! Ok, so I don’t care if P&P2 only covered 1 day or if it covered 100, it’s more than worth the read. If you’ve made it this far in the series then you already know that Cashure has put her heart and soul into these characters and you can expect to read about almost every single minute of their days because she is just that detailed of a writer. And I LOVE that about this series. What I probably love most about this book is that even though we got some smexy times in P&P1, the characters didn’t turn into complete horn dogs and so the story doesn’t lose its focus. I can’t tell you how often I leave a series because once smexy times starts, that’s all that seems to matter anymore and so for that, I thank you Ms. Cashure for staying true to the characters and the story itself and not just focusing on the Smex (even if I really, really, REALLY want all the smexyness and couldn’t stop drooling come around the 90% mark) oh roarke *droooooool*.

So yeah, by now we are what, 6 books into this AMAZING series and there’s not much more I can say that I haven’t already said.

Oh, side note: go into this book with the understanding that you are going to have to REALLY pay attention to chapter headings because there are a LOT of different voices in this book and you’ll be confused as to who’s POV you’re in if you don’t.

2⭐️1🌶️

Was this book necessary? Not at all.
Do I have A LOT of complaints about this book? Yes
Was I still entertained enough to finish this? Also yes

This book was filler, filler and more filler, yes we got more time with the characters but the time wasn’t even used to deepen or grow the characters personalities or abilities.

Tbh I wouldn’t even consider this a RH, we’re at the penultimate book and she has only formed a bond with one of her love interest? Yeah, that’s super balanced and logical for the amount of books in this series.

I’m just starting to like Shade and this is the second to last book in the series.

You’re telling me in a series of 6 books (because the fourth was a waste of time), she’s going to learn to fight and use her magic in the last one? Yeah, that’s BS.

I like the MMC’s, but actually analyzing their behavior with Shade just show the patronizing, controlling and condescending assholes they are.

This books are way too long for the amount of plot or character development there was (none), the chapters are also a little too long with POVs of characters inconsequential to the book development and there are so many stupidly specific things that just dragged the book.

Honestly the plot holes or tropes unfinished on this book is longer than the series itself.

Amanda Cashure still brought her style of funny and emotional. The perfect mix of dark humor and heart breaking pain. But I still think this was not as good as the first three books.

A lot less action than even in the previous installment. There are some things happening in the first half of the book but the second half is pure character and relationship development. Which actually I really like and the author is capable to paint a picture so vivid that I feel like I can see everything unfolding around me.

My problem is the timeline. Two days in more than 500 pages feels cramped. I feel like I read a lot about these characters, learned a lot new things about them. Even learned a lot about what's happening behind the scenes. But nothing really happened.

At least they reunited, I really didn't like it when they were apart.

Despite my misgiving this is still a very solid story that's incredibly well written and if I want to compare it to other books that I gave 3 stars to, it's much, much better. But I compare it to the previous books, and compared to them this one is a little bit less. While the other did make me cry, this one only made me laugh.

I can't wait to take a closer look at Seth. He is my favorite.

This is a continuation through the series. We have a lot going on in a few days that shows us a few new sides of a few of the characters. We have action, drama, betrayal, and there is even some humor that had me laughing out loud. You feel the pain and anguish of some of the characters right along with some of the happiness they may experience. This is a longer book with a lot of information, but, it is extremely well written and developed.

I have been waiting for book 6 for some time now and was super excited to be able to read it. I was only a tad disappointed in the fact that we didn’t see as much advancements with the guys and Shade. However, there are certainly some extremely interesting twists throughout the story. It is definitely a must read as you continue to get drawn into the Elorsins and Shades world. I am absolutely floored by the ending of this book where there is a major cliffhanger.

The story starts with Shade and Pax still separated from the guys on trying to get back. I loved seeing the role reversal with Pax and Shade - where she needs to become the alpha more and take care of him. Also, there is a Thane/Pax swap scene that I just loved 🥰 So much happens, but we get the time (600 pages) so it felt like it all flowed together. I was on the edge of my seat and and the feelings when it all came together just warmed my heart. I also really loved Roarke and my heart hurt for Seth. We also get some crossover with Leon and Hunter from the Hunters and Secrets series, which I liked. I don’t think you need to have read them, but it’s a good series so I’d recommend it. I did like seeing Dustin’s POV and understanding his role in Shade’s life. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Vexy and Chaos.

Conflicted.

So this was a good book. I liked it and where it ended. But I feel like it could have been cut in half considering it took 3/4 of the book to get back to reuniting with the others. And then in the last 2% of the book was teeing up the next book. Not that there wasn’t good stuff in between and some important pieces here and there, but everything was just so dragged out. Like it was only a few days had passed and when the pentad were finally reunited everything seemed rushed to fit it in. And we’re back to the tortuous slow burn again.

Don’t get me wrong I love the story and enjoyed Shade coming into her own during P&P pt1 but other than reuniting, there was not a whole lot of overall plot development.
