Cornerstone #2
Until Then
Growing up with a distant mother and absentee father, Michelle's childhood has been far from idyllic. Her only attention comes from her partying friends and the guys who are more than happy to give her the affection she longs for. But when one party goes wrong, Michelle's family hatches a plan to get her out of Chicago and away from her so-called friends.
College plans are low on Michelle's priority list, especially with no money to pay for it, until her grandparents offer to foot the bill for her entire tuition. There's just one catch. Michelle must choose between three schools - all hours away from Chicago and all Christian colleges.
Michelle's reluctant choice leads her to an unfamiliar place, where she finds herself surrounded by Bible believers, stuck with roommates she wouldn't normally associate with, and drawn to two handsome strangers - charming Simon, who sees her only as a friend, and his basketball star roommate, Sean, who's interested in more than just friendship.
These new relationships, unexpected friendships, and the decisions Michelle makes could alter the lives of everyone around her and change her heart forever.

Thank you to the author, Krista Noorman, for gifting me with a copy of Until Then in exchange for an honest review!
This is the second book in the series. The first is titled Goodbye, Magnolia which I have reviewed. To see my review, click HERE .
1. The religious undertones (pretty prominent ones). One thing I wanted to mention before I get too far into this review is that this is a pretty religious (Christian) book and one of the main plot points is significantly religious so you have to keep that in mind and, if you're like me and aren't terribly religious, you have to keep an open mind. I was tempted to scoff at some points but it was because of my thoughts towards the religion and not towards the book.
2. The characters. That being said, the characters are positively delightful. Their interactions with each other are just perfect. We (the reader) get enough backstory on each of them that it's as if I knew them all in the real world. I really connected with Michelle as she always felt like she would be the second choice and she wasn't as good as everyone else that she knew and I'm not a stranger to that feeling. The one thing I do have to say is the consistent use of 'gonna' and 'wanna' and those types of contractions. While I don't hate them, it's not something I hear in regular conversation (although it could be part of an accent).
3. The plot. Continuing with that line of thought, I really liked how the book was mainly focused on Michelle finding herself and finding something that she really wanted to do that would help other people. Another fabulous thing about the plot: it gives us a little insight into Michelle and Maggie's college experience from the first book. In the first book, Goodbye, Magnolia, the college years are sort of glossed over but this book overlaps that one a bit and takes it from Michelle's perspective which I thought was really cool and worked out really well. It made it seem like a more complete story and really connected the two together. It also allows you to see all sides of what was happening and reasons behind some previous actions.
4. The romance. And finally, the romance. I think the best aspect of the romance plotline was how it was integrated into Michelle finding herself. While she was happy on her own, she also wants to share her life with someone. The story of how she found that person and worked through feelings of her own and how she dated several people is really realistic and I appreciated how it wasn't just meet one person and that's it.
The Final Verdict:
This is such a wonderfully realistic book with grounded characters and a solid plot line. I loved it from start to finish.
4.5 stars

Until Then was a book that I didn’t want to set down! I found myself completely immersed in Michelle’s story. I first met Michelle in Goodbye, Magnolia, which is book one in the Cornerstone Series. I really did not like her in that book because of her behavior and some actions that she took. Until Then goes back in time and takes the reader through Michelle’s life. It was eye opening to see things from her perspective in Until Then. Even though I hurt for her in some situations and wanted to yell at her in others, I came to really care about what happened to her.
I definitely recommend reading the books in order. It will make Michelle’s story that much more special. Plus, it was fun to see conversations and events that overlapped in both novels, but were told from different perspectives.
The author rates this book as PG-13. There are some instances of sex in the story, however, the deed is never described, but the reader knows it occurred. I would still consider this story a very clean book, yet for a slightly more mature audience.
I just loved this story and was so surprised at how much I ended up liking Michelle. The trials she went through, her growth in Christ, the family and boyfriend drama…it all added up to a wonderful novel!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Yes, I gave my own book a review here. ;) But I wanted to make a note about this one for my readers. This book is different from Goodbye, Magnolia (Book 1) in that Michelle's story is a little more mature and deals with sexual sins. When we meet Michelle at the beginning of the book and when she starts college, she's a little rough around the edges and not a Christian. She's been on her own a lot while growing up, in with the wrong crowd, getting into trouble, and it shows. There are some scenes that are more on the intimate side, but I cut away and never describe "the deed" itself, and it is in no way glorified. If I had to give the book a rating, it would be PG-13 for some sensuality.
I hope you'll enjoy reading about Michelle's journey and see how God works in her life.
Thanks! - Krista :)

I absolutely loved it. But, this book should come with a warning label "If you start this book, you are not going to be able to put this down"

No one likes goodbyes.
Perhaps because it sends a message of finality along with it. It is why so many that are on their death beds hate that word. It means the end in coming and with it, the end of life as they know it. It seems that goodbyes are like that, an ending of something, like a period at the end of a sentence. It's a chapter in our lives that is closing so another one can begin.
Michelle understood all too well those words. When her father walked out on her and her mother, she knew what that meant, but it didn't mean it didn't hurt the girl she was on the inside even though she learned to adapt and hide it on the outside. In fact that left such an emptiness she didn't even know how to communicate it to her mother who now was dealing with being a single mother and coping with the loss in her own way. So she rebelled like most teenagers her age and found solace in the company of young teenage boys who were too willing to help her deal with being wanted and loved in their own selfish ways. She found she could relate to them better than girls so that is where she ran to until her parents and grandparents gave her an ultimatum.
Pick one of three Christian colleges and they would pay for the entire tuition. Michelle understood it was in an effort to control her wild behavior and perhaps had her best intentions in mind, but being underage still meant her parents could insist on what she did, her only choice in this was picking a college to attend. She opted for Cornerstone and would learn that sometimes life can turned around on a dime when you least expect it. Now she would be exposed to a different life than one she had been living and the relationships she would form with her roommates and the guys at college would last her forever if she was willing to see what God could do. Only how do you let go of all those bad habits that become your life, that sustain you and in your own mind protect you? How do you go from being a bad girl and change that kind of reputation in a place where rules abound? Will she ever find a man who can love her for who she is, faults and all, or will she continue to spiral out of control?
Until Then by Krista Noorman is a different kind of coming of age novel that showcases the life of Michelle who is about to get a rude awakening and a calling from God on her life. It is one she won't respond to right away and takes to falling back on what has worked for her in the past. The message behind it is wonderful and shows that while our plans may not work out the way we want them, God has a different one in mind that is always far better than the one we wanted if we are only willing to give Him a chance. Until Then takes readers of Goodbye Magnolia, the first novel in the Cornerstone series, into the life of Michelle, a character whom we briefly met in the first novel and gives a better backstory of their relationship and how it developed when the two friends met in college and wound up where they are at today.
I received Until Then by Krista Noorman compliments of the author for my honest review of this novel. While for some it might not fall into the "Christian" category because of Michelle's promiscuous lifestyle at first, it does show that where we all begin in our Christian walk is far from perfect and creates a genuine sense of realism that readers can get behind. I did not receive any monetary compensation aside from a free copy of this novel in exchange for my heartfelt and unbiased personal opinions. I really love how it took you on a roller coaster of a ride through Michell's turbulent lifestyle at college and shows readers that help can be found in the unlikeliest of places, if we are willing to look hard enough to find it. I would give this one a 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Last year, I read Krista Noorman's Goodbye, Magnolia, which tells the story of Maggie and Simon, two photographers who met in college and slowly found their way to each other. Until Then focuses on Maggie's college roommate Michelle.
The novel begins when Michelle is still in high school and follows her for more than a decade as she goes through college, begins a career, and searches for her place in the world. Michelle came from a rough background, and she didn't become a Christian until she was attending a Christian college. (Side note: One of the three colleges Michelle had to choose from was Grace, the college I attended. While I knew from reading Goodbye, Magnolia that she wouldn't choose Grace, I still wish she had!) After Michelle's conversion, she still made some major (MAJOR) mistakes, mistakes that would continue to impact her life and the lives of others for years.
I'm so glad that Noorman decided to portray Michelle in this way. Until Then could be described as "edgy Christian fiction" because Noorman frankly deals with sexual sin. However, nothing is explicit, and Noorman clearly shows how Christ's sacrifice covers every sin. Michelle's story is one of redemption, and it's very powerful.
While I did enjoy the novel, and I'm so glad that Noorman wrote it, I do wish that the plot hadn't taken quite so long to get from point A to point B. Specifically, I felt like the part where Michelle was in college dragged out too long, and it easily could have been condensed. I struggled to truly engage with the novel until it was more than halfway over—once Michelle's college friend/boyfriend Sean came back into the picture, I couldn't flip the pages quickly enough. That portion of the novel also featured the best character development, as Sean and his kids were all well drawn out, entertaining characters.
There's something about Noorman's writing that draws me in and won't let go until I've finished the novel. It happened with Goodbye, Magnolia, and it happened again with Until Then. While it took a while for me to become immersed in Until Then's world, once I was engaged, I couldn't stop reading. That's the power of a good storyteller! 4 stars.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

What I Loved: I’ve been a Krista Noorman fan for a while now and if there’s one thing I can count on Noorman for, it’s creating characters you can relate to. She did it again with Until Then. One of the areas that shined the most to me was the genuine remorse over sin that Krista was able to bring to life on the pages. Our heroine, Michelle, hasn’t lived the life of a saint and we see the destroying power of sin very clearly in this novel. I was greatly impressed with the deep regret Michelle showed throughout the novel at various moments. In Goodbye, Magnolia, we meet Michelle but we’re not left with a great impression of her so it was wonderful to get her side of the story and see a character worth loving.
Until Then, as the blurb rightly warns, is a more mature story. Younger readers should beware of this. However, it’s a beautiful story of redemption and a great lesson on sexual purity.
Rating and Recommendations: I’m giving Until Then 5 stars and I recommend it to those who enjoy Christian Fiction with a feel of reality woven in.
Note: Until Then is book 2 of The Cornerstone Series. Goodbye, Magnolia and Until Then overlap in areas and technically could be read in either order. However, the author recommends reading Goodbye, Magnolia first.

When I first started this book, I wasn't sure about Michelle. But I quickly came to see how real she is. Everyone deals with the consequences of their actions. But not everyone learns and grows from them.
Krista took Michelle's past and lack of good judgement and created an amazing story of personal growth and redemption.
I read Goodbye, Magnolia first and I'm glad I did. It made Michelle's story all the more detailed and meaningful.
Krista notes that the book is rated PG-13. While I agree with that rating, I will say that the mentions of sex were handled very well. I would consider this a clean book, but with a more mature theme.
I highly recommend both books! I found it impossible to put either one of them down while reading them!

I read Goodbye, Magnolia and had my mind made up about Michelle. Then this book comes along and completely changes my view of her! I loved going back to college and seeing how Michelle, Maggie, and Simon all came together. This book is about hurt, loneliness, sin, betrayal, and God's unconditional love He has for each and every one of us. Such an amazing book!

Wow. I enjoyed Goodbye, Magnolia and was excited to receive a review copy of Until Then. I couldn't put it down! And once I finished Until Then, I wanted to go back and re-read Goodbye, Magnolia! It magnified things from the first book.
I really enjoyed the story and the concepts of redemption and forgiveness that it illustrated.

Not As Sweet
I’m a picky reader, and I only like to read clean books. I read the other two books in this series and liked them, so I wanted to finish the series. That’s the only reason I continued to read this book. I understand showing redemption and forgiveness. I don’t understand how much detail we got about her sexual mistakes. I really didn’t want that much information/detail, so I skipped lots, because it made me uncomfortable. I love that things worked out, but I can’t call this a clean romance, so I took away a star.

Michelle doesn't have the best home life. So when her grandparents force her to attend a Christian college in hopes of "saving" her, she's not impressed. Michelle's experiences with Christians so far has not been good. But when she arrives she finds friends that make the experience a little easier than she'd anticipated.
The book begins in college so has a definite YA feel. It spans quite a bit of time, ending when the main character is a middle age adult. The story reads a bit like a saga because it deals with family drama and spans such a length of time. The author wove Christian elements into the story and made the situations realistic and authentic. There is some elements that might make this a more adult book such as references to substance abuse, depression, sex, and family neglect. But the author handled it discreetly and left the story still feeling "clean". Overall, this would be a good book for anyone who enjoys redemption stories, clean romance, or YA novels.
I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Until Then by Krista Noorman this is the second book in the series, and I did enjoy the book. I did read the first book as well so if you want to check out that review you can click here to see it. Like I said, I enjoyed this book but if I had to pick between the two I would pick Goodbye, Magnolia because I felt like I connect better with those characters than I did with Michelle in this book. Even with that being said I did enjoy this book, and I still love the authors writing. I love this author writing, and I hope that she will come out with other books in this series because I can’t wait to read other books by her.

Until Then is a coming of age story of forgiveness and redemption. As a fan of Book 1, Goodbye, Magnolia, I delighted in the opportunity to turn back the clock and delve into Michelle’s backstory. Getting to know her past allowed a greater insight into her character and the relationships she cultivated. I enjoyed reading Michelle’s emotional journey and was pleased with the overlap between the two Cornerstone novels.
Because Until Then addresses mature themes, the author gives the story a PG-13 rating.

I like reading books about redemption, about characters who feel real and deal with serious issues. Michelle in Until Then craves love and affection but looks for it in the wrong places. To truly change herself and her life, she has to deal with jealousy, envy, and self-forgiveness. The book shows how difficult it is to step on the right path and stay there.
