BILLIONAIRES LIKE HIM HAVE A TYPE. AND IT'S NOT ME. . .
I’m not the kind of girl who has one-night stands. Except…I did.
What can I say? After a few drinks with a gorgeous man who made me feel alive for the first time since losing my mom, I was powerless to say no. And I didn’t regret it. Not one minute of our hot, mind-melting night together. But he wasn’t a forever kind of guy. So I walked away. I wasn’t supposed to ever see him again. Then I did.
Turns out my sexy one-night stand is Dr. Jacob Mitchell - and he’s the cardiothoracic surgeon who just saved my dad’s life.
The shocking part? He never forgot about me or a single minute of our night together. And he wants more. Actually, he wants it all.
But I’m no fool. And just because he handles hearts every day doesn’t mean I’m going to give him mine. Not without a fight, anyway. . .

Gross characters, ridiculous drama, and an unbelievable story. Hero is the biggest manh*e. The first time he meets the heroine, he's with his f-buddy. The second time he meets her he propositions her, and the third time he meets her is at the heroines cousins wedding (the day after) in which he went with his f-buddy and yet heroine and hero have sex after the wedding.
A year later, hero was celibate and then he sees the heroine again and decides to go off and have sex with everyone. His thoughts about women are disgusting, and he's very unprofessional and immature (and no one would want him as their doctor). Anyways, one of the girls he had sex with after seeing the heroine again is a friend of the heroines, from high school. She of course, comes back 5 months into the heroine and heros relationship, supposedly pregnant with the hero's baby. This is where I dnfed. Terrible non-stop drama and all of it has to do with the hero and ow and im so annoyed🙄 and heroine is SO weak for putting up with any of it. Fake baby, surprise baby, evil ow, media that supposedly cares so much about a doctor and his social life, terrible women characters that are all after the hero or are just trashy/bitchy, and a manh*e hero and his friends who only have sex with rich ow so they can't take their money, and then he leaves them all in the dirt🙃 (except Vickie of course, we need that f-buddy of his to cause constant ow drama).
And besides all that, this book was boring, overly unrealistic, filled with inconsistencies, and i regret reading this at all😤
Safety up until DNF
Om drama- don't recall any
Ow drama- TONS and from multiple women (don't care to list it all out because there is so much)
Cheating- no cheating once they are in a relationship, but hero sleeps with ow right after he sees heroine again, so it depends on how you see cheating (i personally think he's disgusting and likely to cheat in the future)
I know I'm in the minority for my 2 star rating, but I really couldn't justify a three.
Okay, to start with positives, what did I like? I liked the heroine was strong. Umm, I think that's it. Oh, it does have sex scenes in it, and IMO any steam is better than no steam.
What didn't I like? There were so many things that made me physically cringe from how she described his penis during her internal monologues to different interactions in the dialogues to things they said to each other during their first hook up. The story was so slow I would get distracted by things like my ac switching on while reading and then I'd remember that I needed to pay the bills, and I would stop reading and go pay bills, which everyone can agree is TORTURE. When I'm into a great book I hear NOTHING, not even my children asking me what I'm cooking for dinner or my husband slamming pots around when he realizes I'm too immersed to actually cook.
My rating of 2 stars means Meh, shoulder shrug.
I received a free copy of this book and am giving my review voluntarily.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙💚💜 Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗 World building: 🌏🌍🌎 Character development: 😟🙁☺️ Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Ashley Taylor - While in San Francisco for the weekend, she made a fool of herself in a coffee shop and dumped her coffee all over a handsome stranger who was nice to her. Later that day at a hotel where her meetup with old friends was an epic fail, she meets the same guy again and almost decides to have a one night stand with him. However, when she attends her cousin’s wedding, she sees him again and goes through with what she almost had the night before.
The Hero:Dr. Jacob Mitchell - He is a billionaire and a highly respected cardiothoracic surgeon and chief of cardiology at his hospital. His family also funded the entire cardiac wing of the hospital. While in San Francisco for a medical conference, he meets a woman that he is very attracted to and ends up in bed with her. Once home, he can’t get her off his mind, though he never got her full name and can’t contact her.
The Story: Ashley’s dad has been feeling rundown lately so she encouraged him to go in and see a doctor. A year later Dr. Mitchell saved her father’s life and when Ashley arrives at the hospital to see her Dad, she recognizes Jacob as the man she had an incredible night with a year ago. Since that night, Ashley had started living again and focusing on her Artwork. Prior to that, she had been a bit stalled for a few years after her mother died of cancer. Now that her Dad is sick, she is very worried about him.
The story was plenty steamy and I liked the intimate scenes between the two main characters, though I found myself a bit bored with their relationship. Ash was so down much of the time, except when they were getting busy. She was depressed and feeling sorry for herself for losing her mom, and so worried about her dad. Though it got better as it went on. I guess I have just been finding myself bored with books the last few days, so it may have been more my mood than the story.
The audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Aiden Snow and Sarah Puckett. Aiden is one of my top favorite male narrators. He has a deep, sexy voice which is soft yet strong and so easy to listen to. Sarah has a nice voice but I don’t really like her narration style all that much, she just sounds a bit depressed for some reason.
I am almost shelved Dr. Mitchell under DNF. When I am finished, I am not entirely disappointed. The story is still OK although there are way too much OTT drama and twist like a soap opera.
I also do not like the female narrator in the audiobook. She narrated the whole story like a drunken sleepy woman. No emotion in her voice. Miss Marks is a relatively new author for me. I am still getting to know her writing style. I want to explore more of her books.
Overall, Dr. Mithcell is an OK read. Some part can be edited to be much better.
I didn’t love it, but the sex was hot and I didn’t hate it.
Jacob Mitchell (famous heart doc, whore, billionaire) meets Ashley (painter, odd duck) when she spills her drink on him. They’re both attending the same wedding for different reasons. On their second night of accidentally running into each other, they agree to a one-nighter where they have the hottest sex of their lives. She sneaks out of his room without giving him any way to contact her again. Fast forward a year later and she ends up at his hospital because her dad has a heart attack. They spend a few weeks pretending that they don’t know each other. It was super weird. During that time he has a drunken hook-up because he’s been thinking about Ashley for the past year and he’s angry at himself so he wants to f*ck someone else to prove she was just a fluke. I’m pretty pissed at him about that. Turns out, that didn’t bother Ashley at all. It was a super strange reaction, but ok, moving on. So they take a few months before they start dating. There’s a lot of hot sex in the book. The audiobook especially because Aiden Snow narrates. His ‘O’ voice melts my panties. Anyway – so he’s a famous doctor and he did a docuseries on heart stuff and yadda yadda. Well apparently the media dubbed him as the most eligible bachelor and they’re stalking him everywhere. There’s also several psycho women from his past that Ashely is willing to put up with. Then there’s some big drama that breaks them up, I’ve put those details under spoilers because it’s also my biggest complaint. They end up back together and get a HEA.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD
So this is one where there’s someone claiming to be pregnant by our whore of a doctor. Is it his or is it a scam? You’ll have to see. My issue was that when he and Ashely agreed to get back together after her dad’s surgery, they had MANY things to overcome. The paparazzi always chasing them, no privacy, finding out he screwed someone else after she came back into his life (even though they weren’t technically dating yet), being confronted with all of his one-night-stands on his yacht, and then the big one, when he had to tell her that another woman was pregnant with his potential child – SHE WAS FINE. She was easy going, supportive, stood by his side. Never once waivered in her love for him. They discussed how manipulative this OW was. She didn’t bat a lash. Then when the OW/baby mama confronts him (she’s also one of his many stalkers) in the parking lot, he offers to pay her off (to see if she’ll take the bait and find out if she’s only after him for his money). He also makes the mistake of saying he doesn’t have time for bullsh*t relationships. He’s not referring to Ashley, but he’s angry and lashing out. Now comes the part that pissed me off and didn’t make a lick of sense. The baby mama shows up to Ashley’s house and….. she lets her inside. When has that EVER worked out for anyone?? You never invite the crazy person inside your house. If you’re supporting your man, support him. Don’t entertain the stalker! It doesn’t matter what they say – it’s all skewed. So she let’s her come inside and listens to the recording of her man saying these things. She throws the woman out and THEN decides she’s breaking it off with him. Who would pay off a crazy woman and kid?? And he said bullsh*t relationship? *gasp*. That part was just so dumb. She’s been so fine with everything and now this is what sets her off?!?! First, she should have known the comment about the relationship was not towards her. Anyway – he shows up and they’re discussing this – and he just let’s her break up with him. When she says “I should have known this was only a bullsh*t relationship to you.” He doesn’t disagree with her!!!!! He just takes every one of her accusations and doesn’t fight for her or even attempt to explain himself. I was like WTF dude! She’s supposedly the love of your life and you’re just letting her go???? I was so pissed. So they go SEVERAL months of being broken up before they get back together and then on to their HEA. But I was just so mad at that.
The female narrator sucked. In the end – I gave it 3 stars because the sex was good, the story was ok, and I’ve had a bad streak of reads lately and feel like being generous.
I tried very hard to finish this book because I wanted to give a fair review of it, but I had to stop after reaching about 70% of the way through. First of all, the language was atrocious. The very first words out of both of the main characters' mouths were expletives. I'm not saying that expletives can never be used, but as an author myself, I know that word choice is extremely important and that the words chosen should serve a purpose. In my view, foul language should be used to show a character's extreme agitation or, if used more frequently, to show a character's base nature. I would love to know what the author's reasoning was for using foul language in just about every other sentence from just about every character in the book. The worst of all was when a character combined a foul word with God's name. The use of this language diminishes the characters as well as the author in my estimation. If I heard a doctor use the kind of language the Dr. Mitchell used, I'd look for a different physician. To top it off, Ashley, whose language is every bit as bad as Jake's, reprimands her father for using a 3-letter word commonly used to refer to the derriere. What hypocrisy!
Then we have the shallowness of the characters. They are both interested only in sex at the beginning of the book although they eventually have stronger feelings for one another. But when Ashley's father is scheduled to have major surgery, Ashley states: "My dad was only going into surgery with the hottest man alive." Really? Is that what you think about when your parent is going to be undergoing heart surgery?
In addition, we have inconsistencies which the author should have caught. Toward the beginning of the book, Ashley meets high school friends. She states that she hasn't seen them since high school graduation, which was 6 years ago. That would make them about 24 years old. Liz is supposed to be a doctor already. How is that possible? After 4 years of undergraduate study, there are 4 years of medical school, which Liz should be in right now. Besides that, a little later in the book, Ashley states that she hadn't seen the bride in the wedding she was going to attend since she was 3 years old, which was 25 years ago. That would make Ashley 28, so either one of these numbers is off or Ashley graduated high school when she was 22 years old. As I stated before, I didn't read past the 70% mark, so I have no idea if there are other inconsistencies.
Unfortunately I bought the second book in the series when I bought this one. Money wasted since I doubt I'll read the second book considering I couldn't force myself to finish the first. Lesson learned. I'm discovering that there are quite a few authors who are much better at marketing than they are at writing.
This is #1 of the Billionaire’s Club but can be read as a standalone.
It is so refreshing to come across a book where all the characters are "normal" and not "damaged"; and where the story is just romantic, with a bit of intrigue.
I love TL Swan and have been searching for authors with a similar style et voilà, I have found one!
Jacob is not only a swoony billionaire, but also a heart surgeon and a playboy of renown.
Ashley is still grieving the loss of her mother when she is asked to represent the family at a wedding due to her father's poor health.
I love how Jacob and Ashley meet and how he basically falls head over heels in love with her, even though they come from different worlds.
Their story gets very complicated due to a media frenzy and I won’t give the game away, but the twist which I never saw coming was interesting!
The narration was perfect and I can't wait to read Mr Mitchell now. 😍
I'm really annoyed with the serious pick-me vibes coming from this heroine. She's constantly mentioning how "different from other girls" she is. It's a form of internalized misogyny that makes a woman feel the need to tear down other own as a way to seem like the 'cool girl'. Although the Hero calls her kind we're in her head and hearing the things she thinks about ther woman and she's anything but kind. There's nothing I hate more than a pick-me
Gah!! I love finding new authors!! Dr. Mitchell was such an awesome read! A fight for love, passionate, exciting with a side of deviousness! Raylin Marks has made an impression! Going to visit Mr. Mitchell and see what exciting adventures Raylin has in store!
This book was a mixed bag for me. It's desperately in need of a good editor to clean it up but I ended up really liking the story. For about the first third of the book I was sure it was going to be a 3 star read at the most. My biggest gripe: syntax. The numerous awkward and oddly worded sentences and dialogue pulled me right out of the story. Then the story got more interesting. I also realized that I cared about the characters. Despite coming across as a bit pompous, I found Jake's over the top personality kind of endearing, especially when it came to his feelings for Ashley. And I thought Ashley was pretty cool. I like the way they relate to each other. They have a lot of chemistry and their love scenes are pretty hot; and even though I found some of the dialogue lacking, I also thought some of it was really quite good. I'm not sure if the writing improved by the end of the book or if I just became more tolerant because I was caught up in the story but surprisingly, this turned out to be a very enjoyable read and I am looking forward to reading James's story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Steamy romance with lots of drama! I enjoyed the story but it seemed to move slow at times. The romance was sweet and definitely hot between Dr. Mitchell and Ashley. The characters were well developed and easy to like, but be aware Dr Mitchell uses the “F” wore a lot. I listened to the audible version and really liked the narration.
I listened to the audio version of this book, and although the performers were fine this book lost my attention more times than I can count. It felt incredibly long and slow, while simultaneously having a ridiculous amount of drama. It was ultimately the drama that brought this down to 1 star for me; the ‘twist’ in the plot was ridiculous, immature, and implausible, and the characters’ reactions to events were completely inconsistent with the people we had come to know them to be. The male lead, a world renowned surgeon who thrives under pressure, loses it with a woman he knows to be manipulative and after his money, saying things guaranteed to cause him a world of trouble even though he already had a plan in place and a team of lawyers to deal with her. The female lead has been willing to forgive anything and everything up until this point in the book, but she suddenly decides to call it quits because of a brief recorded conversation presented to her by a woman she already considers to be unstable without bothering to ask her level headed boyfriend to explain. The unstable female background characters are absolutely ridiculous and apparently can pull off some pretty impressive felony behaviours to manipulate people. The way one of them manages to pull off a significant deception involving getting another woman to claim the wrong man as the father of her child and then to tamper with a dna test result borders on magical. The sex scenes in this book were also terrible; I felt like the author just wanted to use the word ‘cock’ as many times as possible, and her version of ‘dirty talk’ was more laughable than sexy. I don’t know how this book is rated at over 4 stars, but I clearly didn’t see this book in the same light as the readers who seem to have loved it.

3✨ this book is super cute! i gave this rate cause it was a little bit slowly in the middle to the end.
but i loooove when the guy fells first! they were totally destined… i liked the characters and all their development. also mitchell’s friends were amazing!
will i keep reading? i don’t think so but it was nice.
Every once in a while a girl's just gotta have a billionaire in her life. I needed a frivolous and out on the edge read today for some reason -- maybe the stress of the world today finally caught up with me. Anyway, Kindle Unlimited made it happen. Dr. Jacob Mitchell filled the prescription and put a thump thump in my heartbeat. A bit of a cad, a jerk at times and a gorgeous player -- until this cardiac surgeon got his own overhauled when love threw iced coffee down his starched white shirt.
HOT -- oh yes! Funny, that too. And a bit of angst and even suspense thrown in for good measure. Lots of tiny editing problems that put a frown on my face. A little bit overboard on the realism mechanism. But, like I mentioned, it was just what the doctor ordered for a light and brainless read.
2 supremely generous stars⭐️This book quickly became a boring diary of an open heart surgery then heart transplant patient. I swear there’s so much about the fmcs Mom dying of cancer and then her Dads heart problems, surgeries and recoveries that I felt like I was in the waiting room…not a place anybody wants to be transported to n their escapism romance read! Obviously this is another Shonda wannabe author. Anyways after you wade through tons of stuff about heart surgery and cancer then you get the accidental pregnancy scare with the fmcs high school friend …and then the Glen Close stalker vibes of the H’s fck buddy— which leads to the discombobulated cluster fck of third act break up, a prison sentence and the hea. There you go! No need to waste your time reading 330 pages when you can read a paragraph.
It's so boring to me to the point I'm easily distracted while reading it. I'm contemplating between 2 to 3⭐ but decided at 2 since it taken me 3 months to continue after putting it off. I'm the type of reader that don't really like to dnf a book, I'll try to finish it and always give them chances even within the last 3 chapters.
The get-together phase felt too fucking long and repetitive (and no it's not a slow burn in my opinion) while the conflict was too fucking short. It got a super short lived angst, i wish i can get more out of the conflict since that kind of trope can be superior when it's written well.
*Dr. Mitchell* by Raylin Marks Billionaire’s Club #1
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶 7 scenes that are nice and spicy!
My bestie recommended this to me, and it was a solid read! Ash and Jake meet when both are out of town. He's there for a conference and she's there for a wedding. They literally run into each other at a coffee shop, and she spills her coffee all over him. Later, at a rooftop bar, they see each other again. And then, as fate would have it, he’s a groomsman in the wedding she’s in town for. After one hot night together, they go their separate ways but don’t forget about each other.
Fast forward a year, and her dad is rushed to the hospital in Los Angeles because of a heart attack. His new doctor? Yup. It’s Jake. As her dad goes through treatment, Jake and Ash get reacquainted and end up falling for each other. But his former playboy ways threaten to tear them apart.
Overall, it’s a good read with some nice spice! This book has so much potential. It’s one of those reads that, as you’re reading, you know the author could go far with the right team behind them!

Worst. Book. I’ve. Ever. Read. Oof… had a reading slum for a bit there and let me tell u this was not the first book to read to get me out of it. Almost a DNF. Honestly just bad…. Like pick a lane and stay in it… he is a heart surgeon not a celebrity why are there cameras following him everywhere like he’s Justin Bieber🤣 how is he 30, a world renowned heart surgeon already and a billionaire lol I love a easy spicy romance but this just had a horrible plot and his relationship with his brothers is rude and annoying :( DO NOT READ or do if u want to rant with me about it for hours :)
It started off decent with a real sweet storyline and was a nice breezy romance where she stuck by him throughout the drama until she didn't. That whole thing with the lizard lady pissed me the fuck off and just went to shit. Sooo read it, don't read it... not a big loss🤷🏻 Audiobook: 🎧🎧🎧🎧 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

catch another angle of the black-haired god who’d given a facelift of beauty to the coffee shop when he walked through the door. *Second meeting
Good Lord, he was gorgeous. The dark shadow on his jaw worked to carve out the faultlessness of his chiseled face. His coal-black hair, a tousled mess of perfection, set off his eyes that seemed to bore straight into my soul as he stared into mine.
*Third Meeting Dr. Mitchell “Third time is a charm.” Ashley Taylor
Am I still asleep and dreaming this man into being at the wedding with me? I looked at Mr. Gorgeous, sucked in a breath, and placed my hand in his arm when he reached out to me. He had been transformed into a model from a wedding magazine. The silver vest under his black tuxedo and his smile completed the atmosphere of intoxicating love this place was exuding. He leaned into me. “You don’t have to say anything. I was quite speechless after noticing you in the doorway. You look…” He paused, and the sexiest smile lit his ocean-blue eyes. “Yeah,” I swallowed hard. “What are the odds we meet here?” I laughed. “Perhaps it’s fate,” he said,
Ashley Jake’s 35th Birthday 🥳 on his yacht
thought I was in love my first year of college—but I’d never felt what I felt with Jake. The way it turned from the very first moment we met, started talking, the sex, and then these looks we both seemed to get lost in. It was intense and scared the shit out of me. Maybe Jake was braver than I, but to feel the way I was feeling about him lately was dangerous. I just wish I had the guts to tell him I loved him too. Because I did. He’d saved my dad’s life and mine also. I may never know what the hell I did to draw his attention toward me like this, but I wasn’t discrediting myself by saying I didn’t deserve it. I deserved to feel the way only Jake would make me feel. I deserved to feel happy and alive again, and in all honesty, it was Jake that was bringing this out in me. That’s what was the scariest part. *Ashley asks Jake on the yacht now at Carmel by the sea 💕 “Do you feel like you’re being a little abrupt with all of these life changes and saying you love me?” “Is it frightening you?” I asked, wondering if I was coming on too strong and too fast. “No,” she said, seemingly shocked she’d said it. “I just worry about you. We are moving really fast, Jacob Mitchell.” I smiled. “When I want something, I go after it, and I won’t let it go.” Our eyes locked in the way that always reassured me that this woman was the other part of my soul. “Ash, I was not careless with my words when I told you I was in love with you.
*Marriage talk
“But I promise you this: you will be my wife one day.” Something happened at that exact moment. Both of us switched some gear in our heads, and instead of moving into the crazed and wild sex we loved having, we slowed down in a way I didn’t think was possible. “I love you, Jacob,” I said . *Jake and Ash after sex ( most meaningful and heartfelt) 👩❤️💋👨😍🥰😍 “Just making sure you know that may have been all you and the best sex of my life, but you’re always at my mercy.” He softly laughed as I ran my fingertips over the tense muscles of his back. “I’ve been at your mercy since the first time in San Francisco.” “I think tonight beats all of it,” I said, turning my head toward the moonlight peering down on the ocean. “You’re correct on that.” He sighed. We’d never had sex this intimately and with a true meaning of devotion behind it before. *Jake shares his love ❤️ 🫀 “Good enough that she already staked her claim on my heart, but the sex last night?” His eyes met mine again. “Best of my life.” *After Liz screwed up Jacob’s life and was thrown in jail indefinitely and Jacob sold all Ash’s paintings for $6,000,000. *The Apology and make up 💋 “I knew a woman who was passionate about the taste of strawberries,” the familiar voice of Jake said to my left. “Passionate about strawberries, eh?” I answered to which he smiled, and somehow the packed club disappeared, and it was just him and me again. we were oddly picking up where we left off. “Well, I think it was the flavor after having her bite into one, run it down the center of her chest, and…” He smirked, and his eyes dazzled. “Well, you know.” “I do?” I feigned surprise. “After tasting the flavor of it from her delicate skin, there’s no other fruit that comes close anymore.”“I’d never found a strawberry to be so good. The best part was her love for them and me at the time.”“She is here tonight, and part of me believes she might enjoy that I’m sharing these stories with you.”I nodded. “So, you’re the man,” I whispered. “The man?” he asked in question. “The one who stole her heart and made her regret every day since letting you go without giving you a chance with all the bullshit you and her went through.” He licked his lips, and both of us became more serious. “She had no other option. I never gave her a chance to know me well enough to understand the man who’d hurt her with words was an asshole throwing a fit.” “Perhaps she was an asshole too.” “Never,” he said. “You have a high regard for this woman.” “I would hope she knows that I will forever love her.” “Jesus Christ, Jake.” I smiled after taking a sip of my martini. “Kiss me or something.” I barely got that out before his hand was behind my neck, and he smoothly covered my lips with his own. “I’ve missed the hell out of you.” “Jake, I’m sorry about everything,” I said. “Baby,” he said, “I’m sorry for everything. I lost you, and I can’t lose you again. Please tell me you’ll give me another chance.” “I lost you once,” I smiled. “And after that ridiculous pick-up line, I’m never letting you go.”We were two souls that were born to be together. Two souls that had found each other on a higher wavelength than I think either one of us truly understood. “I love you, Ashley Taylor,” he said sincerely. Before I could respond, his lips captured mine, and we resumed our consuming kiss . “Easily done. I’ll fuck you in each room, the sauna, the pool, the spa, and the wine cellar. I’ll never sell the place after that.” “Slow down, cowboy,” I teased. “I’ve prayed this moment would happen.” He brushed his lips over my nose. “Never once did I believe I would get a third chance at getting you back into my life.” *Proposal engagement ring 💍

Trust me, I went over a million different scenarios in my mind after Jim and I shopped for this ring together. It all went to hell soon after I bought it, but this morning before asking you out here, I could think of nothing more than needing you in my life and knowing I could never let you leave me again, Ash.” “Jacob.” I chuckled at this moment with him. He looked so vulnerable, adorable—almost like a young boy in the water waiting for the answer he was pleading for. This was the man I had fallen in love with. “Ash.” He spit out the water and shook his head from a wave that had slapped him in the face. “I’m as close to a submissive position as one can be while getting down on a knee and asking the woman he loves to marry him.” “You are the biggest nut I’ve ever met in my life.” “Let me make you the happiest woman in the world. You’ve already made me the happiest man. I love you more…” another wave smacked him again with the chop of the water. “Jesus, I’m going to drown out here. Throw me a bone or something.”“Yes, Jacob.” I slid off my board and over into his arms. “I love you. I can’t imagine leaving you either.” “You’re the love of my life—you are my life.” He pulled the ring onto the tip of his finger. “Here, this will seal the deal,” he said. “Put it on quick before I have to dive and pick it up from the bottom of the ocean.” “My God,” I said as he slipped the ring over my finger. “This is gorgeous,” I said, staring at the platinum band that revealed a massive square-cut diamond. He held onto the board with me in his other arm, “Hell. I should have thought before I put that thing on you. Your tiny little ass is going to sink straight to the bottom now.” He kissed me. “I love you, Ash.” “Love doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about you. Shall we go celebrate?” He nipped at my chin. “I have just the place in mind,” he said. “Oh, yeah?” “It’s a gift, and it better be done by now, or I’m going to look like an asshole.” “What are you talking about?” “Let’s just say Clay and Joe had a superb idea to get you back into the city. It’s why they invited you down. Me showing up last night was just wishful thinking that we’d get back together. Those guys are the craziest nut jobs I’ve ever met.” He laughed. “They’re a lot of fun. I’ve missed them.” “Well, let’s get into shore, and I’ll give them a ring. A couple more phone calls, and we might pull off one of the best days of my life.” “What are you up to?” I laughed. “Get on your board; you’ll see.” By two o’clock in the afternoon, watching Jake more nervous than I’d ever seen him, we were back in his Jeep and driving down the coastline. “Well,” I said, trying to keep a straight face to his concerned one, “one might think that you had pulled another rabbit out of your hat, and we’re heading to our wedding.” “What makes you say that?” I laughed. “You’re acting like the end of the world is waiting at our final destination.” “I’m sorry. Just go with me on this. The brunch was good, though, wasn’t it?” “It was delicious. That restaurant was adorable,” I said about the beachside cafe he’d brought us to. He pulled the car into a parking lot. “Here goes.” I stepped out of his car and looked at the storefront that was completely blacked out. “Are we going shopping?” He took my hand. “Already done,” he said as he entered a security code and unlocked the glass doors, pulling them open. “I bought this after the floating gallery was a hit,” he said, turning around to face me. “I had staff hired, and after I got your written permission, I wanted to gift this form of revenue to you. Little did I know I’d be standing here with you as my fiancé,” he smiled as he hung onto that word, “and showing it all to you myself.” “A gallery in Malibu?” I said, seeing what was hidden behind the glass. “Yes.” He smiled. “Jim and I discussed it after Lillian’s business tanked, and we wanted to see you take the woman’s place. At the time, we didn’t think you’d leave Southern California, but we also didn’t think that we’d have numerous requests for more of your work, either. Jim was going to talk to you personally about working and running the business for Mitchell and Associates, but I told him to hold off. I guess I had hope that somehow this moment would happen. Babe.” His kiss was soft, and he pulled back his thumb rubbing over mine. “This gallery is yours. We haven’t named the business yet or given it an opening date, but it’s close to the beach house—your home—and an easy commute.” He nodded to the ocean behind me. “The ocean is right out your front windows. You also have a client list that’s pretty large after the auction.” “This is the most tremendously generous and thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me,” I said, wiping the tears of joy from my eyes. The Wedding 3 months later at the beach house in Malibu Clay married them After Jake and I exchanged simple vows, the sun was shifting in the sky, heading toward the horizon. “Thank you all for being present for the happiest day in my life,” Jake said, raising a glass. “To my beautiful bride, the enchanting Mrs. Ashley Mitchell.” He looked at me “May she live happily ever after with me.” Jake’s brother and friends burst out into laughter, along with me and everyone else. “I love you, silly guy,” I said, “Thank you all for being present for the happiest day in my life,” Jake said, raising a glass. “To my beautiful bride, the enchanting Mrs. Ashley Mitchell.” He looked at me “May she live happily ever after with me.” Jake’s brother and friends burst out into laughter, along with me and everyone else. “I love you, silly guy,” I said, reaching for his face and kissing his lips. “You’d better.” He sighed. “This next part—our exit? Well, let’s just say, you’re legally mine, no matter if I screw this up or not.” “What are you talking about?” I heard a loud horn as if a cruise ship were out in the ocean. I turned to see Jake’s yacht lit up brightly and magnificently. “Let’s get out of here,” he said, his white muslin shirt blowing in the wind against his khaki shorts. Jake turned and pulled me toward the shore. “What the hell? Are we swimming out to the boat?” “Jacob Mitchell.” I started laughing when I saw a white rowboat parked in the sand. “What are you doing?”“Let us fulfill my dream of rowing you in a boat.” I laughed and kissed his cheek. “Let’s do it.”rowing us smoothly toward his yacht. “Highly,” I teased. “Most people have a getaway car like a limo—perhaps a horse-drawn carriage.” Jake smiled, looking over his shoulder. “And you have a rowboat.” “You’re wet for me already, angel,” he said, pulling away. “When we get to our yacht, your sexy ass is mine.” “Better row your little boat faster, buddy,” I said, trying to calm myself down. It might have been a simple and fast wedding, but it was memorable and beautiful. And to have Jake row me in a boat out to the yacht? This one could never be outdone. How is it that you could love someone more than you believed your heart could take? Pregnant 🤰
“I’m pregnant,” she said with a happy yet concerned look on her face. “To have the most beautiful woman in the world carrying my child, my Ash—pregnant with our baby?” I laughed. “Hell, I don’t even know what to say.” “We’re going to have a baby. Holy shit. The most beautiful soul in the entire world is going to continue making me the happiest man alive.” I wiped the tears from her cheeks. “Thank God I made an honest woman out of you.” We both laughed and held each other tightly.
I LOVE romance novels and I never leave bad reviews, but this book was completely awful. I generally read a book this length in 1-2 nights, but this book took me a week. I only finished it because I couldn't justify quitting the book after I'd slogged through to the halfway point, wasting all those hours I'll never get back.
The book is FULL of typos, bad grammar, and outright incorrect word use. It's so completely distracting, I had a hard time focusing on the book. If I were the author, I would be embarrassed by the lack of proofreading and editing.
In some places, the dialogue makes no sense. In many places, the way the characters talk to one another is just gross. If Jake was my doctor, I'd look for a new one. There's no way in hell this guy is a convincing "world renown heart surgeon." He throws tantrums, acts like a prick, and the language is awful. There's FAR too much foul language. Most of the time, both main characters just sound completely immature and uneducated. There's no amount of frosting ("he's a billionaire," "he drives a Bugatti," "he has all these huge houses," etc.) you can throw on this to make him seem more convincing.
There's also huge plot holes, too many things going on, and it feels like around 70% the author just ran out of plot and started winging it. The book could have been 100 pages shorter and she could have cut out one or two of the disjointed plot lines. The whole thing is pretty awful.
**My thanks to the author and Hidden Gems for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is the first time that i have read this author and it certainly shall not be the last. The writing and the story are brilliant and the characters are well rounded and you cannot help but fall in love with them all.
Dr Jacob Mitchell is a heart surgeon and is at the top of his game and one of the youngest top surgeons. It is a chance meeting that leads to him meeting Ashland having a connection. The morning after, they find themselves at the same wedding and Jake wants more of her and they end up having a one night stand.
A year later and not having forgotten Ash, Jake finds her again when he needs to operate on her father. Jake pursues the woman that her wants with a strong mind that this is the woman that he wants to change his ways, but life and other things get in the way to try and get in the way.
Both are really strong characters and try hard with their relationship. I really loved the story and the supporting characters and cannot wait until book two comes out and Jakes brother James (Jim) gets his story and happy ever after which the stressed tired man really does deserve.
I will certainly be reading more from this author.
I'm an easy reviewer. I don't need every book to be a literary work of art, I just need to be entertained. I almost never give books 1 star reviews.
1. The awkward and unnecessarily complicated sentence structure and poor grammar. There were times when I was convinced this book was computer generated or something. Sentences would *almost* be right but have mixed up words or mismatched tenses.
2. I'm assuming the author doesn't really like other women. Practically every woman in this book except for Carm and Ash were written as crazy, scheming, bitchy, or otherwise awful.
3. It could have easily been at least 25% shorter. Long and boring for most of it. Even with the big twist it seemed like nothing much happened. I had no feelings about these two other than to hope they'd do something interesting soon.
4. Not every painting is a portrait! Those words are not interchangeable.
Not yet finished but I have a few issues: 1 A portrait is a picture of a person. You can’t have a portrait of the ocean 2 They’re called lab coats, not smocks 3 dr Mitchell IS an attending physician. You only say ‘my attending’ if you’re a resident or med student.
Really intense rollercoaster of a ride. The writing and storyline were wonderful and I left feeling very invested in the characters. Can't wait to read the next one!
Dr. Mitchell is another recent random audio pick from my library. The story involves Ashley and Jacob who keep running into each other. Thinking it's fate, they give into their strong attraction. After a one night stand, Jacob turns out to be the wealthy doctor who saves Ashley's father's life. For the most part, I enjoyed my time listening to the book. I liked the dual narrators and thought they did a good job with the characters. They kept me wanting to keep listening.
While I enjoyed listening, I didn't love the story. I liked the chemistry between Ashley and Jake. It was really intense. I liked their banter. Jake was my favorite. I liked that he had some depth and actually struggled with trying to work through his feelings when he lost a patient. Ashley kind of annoyed me at times. I thought she was a bit harsh on Jake toward the end. They did have fairly good communication, but I was disappointed that she didn't give him the benefit of the doubt. Which brings me to the parts I didn't enjoy. The "big conflict" was not original and the reveal was predictable. It really just dragged the story out much longer than it needed to be.
I will continue with the series. I want to read about the other men in the "Billionaires Club".
Great story to read, but the dialog was difficult to follow at times. Jake and Ashley. They had a chance meeting at a coffee shop out of town for both of them. They met 3 times as if it were fate. They did not see each other until a year later when her dad suffered a heart attack. He was saved by the cardiologist on staff who went to the waiting room to inform the family. That is where they meet again. The problem was they were unsure if the other remembered them, and he had to remain the professional caring for her dad. Thru a series of visits to her dad's room, they finally talk after he finds Ashley asleep in her car from exhaustion. But still, they don't get together. The story unfolds from there.
3.75 stars What a great story. Loved the characters and the chemistry between Ashley (Ash) and Jacob (Jake) player, heart surgeon meets good girl artist when she spills coffee on in a coffee shop (I know typical device in billionaires romance novels). Then meet in a bar, then meet at a wedding they both attend.....year goes by and they meet when her father is treated by Jake at the ER. They both had difficulty getting the other out of each other's head. This is the beginning of a beautiful story. Although there is a relationship ending twist, I would have enjoyed some extra angst...but it was a good read!
