Max just turned twenty-one and all she wanted to do was continue her ordinary life working in her mom's bookstore and flirting with Noah. On the night of her birthday, she's always had the same nightmare - snow-covered mountains and men with red eyes. Except the dream on her twenty-first birthday is drastically different - more depth, more feeling, and more information. Suddenly, her life changes completely and everything she thought she knew goes out the window. Now she has magick powers and finds herself as the last of a species, killed out by wars with vampires and other creatures of the night. Protected by one coven and hunted by another, she finds herself drawn to three different men and pulled into a war she wants nothing to do with. And just when everything seems hopeless, those three men seem to be her only redemption.
This book took me a really long time to get through. The beginning was draggy and Max was not that great of a main character - she was whiny, indecisive, and obnoxious towards everyone. I really wanted to reach into a book and smack her; it literally killed me. I also really didn't enjoy the reverse harem trope that was a pretty big deal in this book. Maybe it's because I didn't feel the romance or maybe it was just most of the characters were flat and unappealing. The world-building was subpar at best, and while it was an interesting concept, wasn't done as well as it could be, which resulted in a flat, short, and blah book. The action was probably the best part of this, but even that didn't have the best pacing. It was slow, but it also was resolved really easily.
If you enjoy reverse harems strictly for the sex scenes and little emphasis on characters or plot, you'll probably enjoy this book. But if not, this wasn't really worth the time.
