I'm ready to admit that I don't know enough about early American history to be able to understand this book.

I read this book many years ago while in graduate school. My memory is that Fox looked at the leveling influence of the Jacksonian era by examining voting records, land acquisition, and education of white, mostly rural New Yorkers. Not a page turner but important in understanding the growing democratic influence in ante bellum America.
