When a man on a mission is derailed by a beautiful woman, will one night ever be enough? Will one night be his undoing?
Alessandro Cardenas isn’t stepping out on the Miami art scene only for the hottest parties. Someone is forging his late grandfather’s paintings—and he’s determined to uncover the culprit. But when he crosses paths with gallerist Angeline Louis, the boundaries between mystery and seduction become blurred. Does Angeline suspect his ulterior motives…even as she surrenders to his kisses? Does she have secrets of her own? Or can Alessandro trust that their once-in-a-lifetime connection is real?
This was a very steamy romance that takes place in Miami. I wanted to read a romance with Afro-Latinx characters and this fit the bill with the leads being Haitian and Cuban. Though neither has visited their ancestral islands they both feel a closeness to them and take pride in their culture. Alessandro "Sandro" Cardenas is an actor who is doing well for himself. He's in Miami during a break in between projects and is finding it hard to settle down and relax. Angeline "Angel" Louis works for an art gallery and has to step up during the biggest art week in Miami. She has to visit Sandro's home to secure a sale and then end up sharing a passionate night together.
I really enjoyed the escapism of this story. I was transported to a Miami vacation with fancy vacation homes, high profile events, and a little mystery involving forged paintings. The only thing I didn't like was how insecure Angel was and the timeline in this story. It felt like weeks had passed by only for a week to have gone by. There was just way too much action here to believe so much happened in seven days. Plus it made it a little harder to believe their declarations of love. Especially with Angel still getting over her ex. Their great chemistry made the story believable.
What Happens in Miami… is the second book in Nadine Gonzalez’s Miami Famous series. It is completely a standalone read, so don’t worry about missing anything from the first book, Scandal in the VIP Suite.
It’s Art Basel week in Miami Beach. The event draws hundreds of artists, galleries, art collectors, celebrities, and those who just want to be seen in the “Magical City”. One of those celebrities is Miami’s own Academy Award winner and avid art collector Alessandro “Sandro” Cardenas. Sandro, who usually spends all his time in Los Angeles or on a movie set somewhere, is in town for a short break between projects and to spend time with his friends. He also has a lead on a rare painting by Cuban artist JD Valero, who is secretly his paternal grandfather and the man who raised him.
Angeline “Angel” Louis is Haitian American and the newest sales associate at Gallery Six. She’s originally from Orlando but moved to Miami with her boyfriend, who has since moved on with his life in another country. Angel’s goal, at this point is to save enough money to move back to Orlando. She’s not happy about the prospect, but she feels she’s spent enough time chasing her art dream with nothing to show for it. With things being so busy and hectic at the small gallery, Angel is tasked with taking a JD Valero original to Sandro at his home.
From the moment he lays eyes on her, Sandro is enamored with Angel. Angel is also attracted to Sandro but knows of his playboy ways. After enjoying the evening with Sandro and his friends, the two share a night of passion. Only the next morning, she runs away like Cinderella, trying to avoid midnight. Being the charming man that he is, Sandro convinces Angel to spend more time with him, even as he’s secretly questioning her character.
There’s something extremely appealing about Sandro. You just want to hug the man and take away his pain. And make no mistake, just because he's a leading Hollywood actor and has won an Oscar, doesn't mean he doesn't know pain, isolation, and sadness. He hides it all by always being on as an actor. That is until he meets Angel. They’re different in so many ways, but what draws them together is their love of art. The two didn't burrow themselves into my heart, but I really liked them together. They’re fun and truly complement each other. My heart broke for them both, for different reasons. They each have baggage that they have to decide if they want to throw away or continue to carry. What I REALLY loved about this story is that the romance is real. Yes, Sandro is a celebrity and Angel is an average everyday woman. But the romantic test isn't dark or unbelievable. It's Sandro being a normal guy and messing up.
One of the reasons I love reading Nadine, is her ability to transport me to a place I’ve never been before. She’s descriptive and makes me feel as though I’m a part of the scenes. I’ve never been to Miami, but I feel as though I know what the nightlife is like. What Happens in Miami… is a closed-door romance, with an added mystery. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
**Received a copy from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.**
hmm, doesn't bode well when I am already having issues and the book barely has an opportunity to begin properly.
It never ceases to amaze me how I am supposed to assume the Heroines in these books are strong, independent Adult women...and the Heroes are simply sex-on-stick, best-sex-you-ever-had and also Man O'The World or something to that effect. And yet, when it comes to the moment of impact, because, literally, these two are full-on strangers and in between an Art Deal...the Heroine decides it's a good idea to have a one-night stand with the Hero.
Hero is... so unprofessional, I cannot even with him. Okay, okay, sure, sure he is some huge Hollywood Hottie who seems to be sweeping the awards shows for the season with this ONE movie he did...and we are told he is a purveyor [often Buyer] of great art...so, instead of the usual Seller from the art gallery the Heroine works for...it's Angel, or Angeline, who is not even getting paid for this work...
We have to hear how nervous Angel is, because this art deal is pretty huge for the gallery where she works--called Gallery Six...and we hear she is a frustrated Artist/Painter in her own right. Only getting-by on this piddly job at the art gallery.
Anyway, the Hero, Alessandro [HE wants everyone to call him Sandro...whatever dude...] has a huge fucking ego that kinda jolts you even before you see him. Like it walks ahead of him because he is so damn self-assured that his shit don’t stink. He goes to meet Angel in a pair of swim trunks...of course knowing full-well how he LOOKS or APPEARS...as he is literally dripping with water droplets off his moist skin.
I'm sorry...he always knew it would be a WOMAN who was bringing the painting, so for him to not bother dressing...like how he would have conducted a "business meeting" w/a male seller... this makes him reek of a certain stench, ya'know?
Once he introduces himself...finds out who Angel is...he feels compelled to put a damn shirt on, but he leaves it open, unbuttoned because HE STILL KNOWS he can stir the pot while Angel is here, and OF COURSE... possibly convince her to be in his bed, later tonight, once everyone at his house party is gone...AFTER they do the art deal...
And Angel falls for it [because she is on a rebound, of sorts]. She especially falls for it so easily because as she has just been dumped by her Boyfriend, who she seems to be toxic-ly following on his YouTube page...and possibly other social media outlets. Setting up her phone to be alerted whenever he posts something new he's gone into, while no longer being with her. I guess it's showing her how HE moved on and did something with his life, but she has gone stale and numb.
??? I mean, sorry...neither of the MCs show an ounce of relatability or likability for me... though I do see some modicum of chemistry/attraction. The INSTA-lust was HARD and HEAVY right from the first jump...which is something I never enjoy too much of.
You cannot force genuine emotions on me when they come together under false pretenses though...
Seems Sandro is searching for his grandfather's canvases...and someone is selling FAKEs of his grandfather's artwork. And apparently, the gallery where Angel works is a HUGE culprit in selling knockoffs...but eh, he doesn't bother telling ANY kind of truth to Angel as he sleeps with her. And, at first, he is so damn certain she is innocent, except when she divulges some personal info, from her past that COULD implicate her...as a "possible" forger...
Anyway, no matter how many times the Heroine tells me what she SHOULD BE DOING... I know she will always succumb and fall into HIS bed, inexplicably. Angel doesn't seem to fear being fired for sleeping with a client. Nor does she seem to care if this could ruin her career reputation--that she "sleeps" her way to the top.
And shocker, here...the one-night stand sex was OFF BOOK...call me stunned quiet. Now, I have to immerse myself in BOTH idiots waxing poetic license about how incredible the night was [and that each was so much more incredible in bed than their last lover!!!]. I can only assume this is truth, even though there was room to SHOW me not just end one chapter with a shower scene and then open the next chapter with Angel doing the Walk of Shame... ugh...
Well, we did get some full-descriptive sex scenes eventually, but then each moment of intimacy, or quickie, was kind of brushed over to make the scenes move faster to show progression of time.
I began to suddenly NOT CARE because right from the get-go, Sandro is lying to Angel--not just ONCE, but TWICE...[and the Truth is important and matters, immensely...] But each time he gets found out...he slinks through with a passive-aggressive wave from Angel. Until the moment he actually considers that Angel might be the art forger??? because she taught herself how to paint as a child by "copying" [forging] old postcard imagery???
And yeah, right when he had thunk it... he goes to talk to a fellow Bro-friend...and immediately he washes away any idea Angel could be an art forger, but yet he still WILL NOT tell her what he has been doing behind her back.
Sandro doesn't see the genuine significgance of lying, which he calls "just omitting the Truth". But each time it MATTERS of some importance TO ANGEL...
Then while he has squirreled her away on his island retreat--for her 2dys off... Gallery Six--the art gallery Angel works for--gets raided by the FBI and... yeah, STUPID SANDRO had no idea The FBI would want to bring Angel in for questioning. He does an instant MEA CUPLA...when the FBI rings her phone to ask her to come into their offices...and I am, like... O_O... because I cannot fathom this couple ever working in reality if Sandro cannot be honest with Angel...ever...especially about how GUILTY she looked to him...at one moment of time...
Sorry, man, but this dude...is a bold-face liar of the worst order. And I don't care how sexy or how big his "D" is...or how sultry his singing voice is...if he was a real guy in a reality-based woman’s life... I would have said G'bye and left his ass high and dry. No fuckin' good-enough excuses for leaving me in the dark about the possible moment the FBI wants to bring ME in for questioning. Granted, Angel was simply there to give background info on her Boss... just the sheer FEAR and ANXIETY being in front of FBI agents... and now my career and reputations is in tatters--because of who was once my Boss and where I once worked...
Sandro KNEW the whole entire time he was having sex with Angel...HE. KNEW.
He put Angel in the line of FBI-fire...with the possibility of maybe being held accountable or responsible...and just that slight of a risk has put in my life??? my career??? where he didn't feel like it was relevant to clue me fuckin' in...yeah, we should have been broken up weeks ago.
Instead, I cannot believe I am saying this, but it's written as if after Angel was questioned by the FBI... she suddenly starts to feel {boo-hoo} sorry for Sandro and now wants to HELP him figure out who the REAL forger is.
It ends up being a silly person...from his family, who he has been taking care of. His brother's daughter... his niece...and guess what??? He lets her get off scott free, saying that maybe it was a good thing that ONLY the Art Gallery and its owner, Angel's boss, Palermo [Paula] was being held responsible. And for his neice to STAWP WITH THE FORGING and selling off FAKEs to art galleries...
O_O... Excuse me?!? What in the he-? Whut even-?
I mean... what in the heck is this book promoting?! Nothing but Red Flag City and levels of toxicity and gas lighting, with so much passive aggressivness that I really could care less about an HEA.
Of course Sandro got a Golden Globe nomination...and Angel sends him...away. Tells him they "orbit different suns"--from different worlds...and Sandro needs to get back to HIS Hollywood choatic Life and Angel can move on in hers, pursue a new job or maybe rejuvenate her art career...
She applies to some random art-in-residence school in California...and gets a ONE YEAR scholarship... so once Sandro wins his GG...his speech is litterd with some dumb promise of... "I LOVE YOU MY ANGEL...and I AM COMING HOME"...
Angel is still watching the Globes and drinking champagne...when a knock is on her front door and...yeah...they don't make any long-time future promises to one another...I assume Angel "loves" Sandro or whatever she has been feeling...and then it becomes an HFN atmosphere...
...ending with some random Instagram post from Sandro's official page/account...uh, all right...whatever... talk about ending on a thump...
This entire book was stunningly not what I wanted it to be, but I guess this was my fault for walking in without reading the Summary ahead of time. Sometimes i like to learn as I go, reading to allow the story and characters to live on in my imagination. Well, I think, even if I had read what the book was about, and shelved it in my brain...I still would feel much the same as I do, walking in blindly as I had.
I want to read more diversity--this had wonderful Cuban [Sandro] and Haitian [Angel] Rep. I want everyone's stories to be told and represented... but oh, my, not at this kind of level of uncomfortable ending--where I am never going to be settled into this couple's ??? as they reach an end...
I can suppose they are happy and Sandro will eventually propose to HIS ANGEL [*gag*]...I just...wished for something different. I always do and sometimes it happens, and then sometimes it's the same soap opera level Drama/Angst with some melding of smexy times...
I have a real huge dilemma here where when Sandro came back to Angel, after their ONS...it was a hit-or-miss whether he would "hold" their night of sex over Angel's head--putting her job/future career at risk. Especially as they kept bumping into her Boss...and I just... it makes me feel extra cringe when a man HOLDS so much of the cards in the relationship--certainy when it pertains to SEX and control and power...and makes the woman assume she has some power or agency, when she does not.
Not really...no, because here it gets messier because Sandro LIES...while he keeps taking Angel to bed. He never tells her the "painting" in the Art Deal where they first met was a FAKE. And that the man she just regurgitated the Biography of to his face... was his OWN Grandfather...
LIE 1....then LIE 2... then he continues to lie as he has some of those FAKEs he has bought from GALLERY SIX "tested"...because once they are shown as forgeries...THE FBI gets involved and this investigation ramps into a full-on conspiracy...where Angel could have been implicated...LIES 3 & 4 kind of blend as one bigger lie... because... he spent maybe a good 10-20minutes considering Angel FORGED the canvases...and then THE FBI Raid...???? all while she was off on some "pleasure vacay" w/Sandro...
I just, yeah...I cannot ever see myself settling well with a good ending for this couple...
I will say this... Sandro fell HARD for Angel so inexplicably. During their initial meeting, I wasn't certain what he was attempting with some Nobody/Unknown woman from Gallery Six who was here to sell him a FAKE painting from his Grandfather. It was tough to decipher if he intentionally meant to have sex with or sleep with whomever came over to his island home...so he could GET INFO about who could or could not be faking his grandfather's artwork. Angel simply happened to be the Replacment Seller... not the one he had expected...???
Also, Sandro was being super weird after their ONS...especially being hurt she did the Walk of Shame, w/o leaving him a note or waking him. For every moment after... Sandro became the freakish STALKER guy... who seemed to not let Angel go--it kept feeling like he was teetering on holding their ONS over Angel's head.
Then, without realizing how she was being "reeled in" by Sandro's piles of lies...she simply opened her current life for Sandro and invited him to her own bedroom. But yeah, she accepted him at every turn. Even when she kept finding out different things about him that made him SEXIER to her... like when he SANG on stage one night...and especially when she learns HE DRAWS [is a bit of an Artist], too...and...
...man, ooof... this book left me with a very bad, squeamish feeling. I think if I was younger and an idealist...some kind of romantic soul...it would be wonderful and I could buy what I am being told. These days, in my late 40s, I am some kind of new seasoned reader, especially of HQ DESIRES...so, yeah, not buying this story, the couple or their ending, at all.
What Happens in Miami is a stand alone romance involving Angel and Sandro. Alessandro is the latest "it" Hollywood heart throb who become captivated by art dealer, Angel, when she delivers a painting for him to consider purchasing. As their week together progresses, they both find that a week might not be enough. I thought this was an enjoyable quick romance. I think I would have liked a different ending. It was a bit too HFN for me. But given the shortness of the book, I can see why it ended that way.
I liked Sandro a bit more than Angel. He knew what he wanted and went after it. He also knew that friends are the family we choose. I loved his friend circle. Angel was a bit wishy washy for me. I didn't understand why she felt she had to give up her art and only focus on a career in art dealing or museum work. Why couldn't she do both? I was rooting for Sandro the push her to find a balance. I would recommend this one. It's quick and a nice sexy escape for an afternoon.
Sizzling Miami Romance. This is an incredible tour of Miami through the eyes of a megastar - who wasn't always - and a struggling artist. As the two come together, we see most sides of Miami from its glittering glitz of the mega-famous to the down-in-the-dirt seediness of its struggling working class - and everything in between. Gonzalez does remarkable job of showing the breadth of the hispanic community's lives in that city - and tells a solid tale of mystery and intrigue while building what is ultimately a romance novel. All tied up in less than 200 pages, making this a solid July 4th vacation read no matter what your plans for the weekend may be. Very much recommended.
I loved not only the chemistry and emotion between these characters but also the world the author built. Every part of it, from the glamour to the supporting characters, has me wanting more by this author!
What happens in Miami doesn’t stay in Miami in this hot read.
The art scene isn’t all glimmer and parties for Alessandro Cardenas as someone is forging his grandfather’s paintings as he seeks information on the culprit. He meets art gallery owner Angeline Louis as the attraction is mutual.
But will he be able to trust her as he tries to find answers? Can they have a future together or will they always be doubts? It is a hot read like the hot nights in Miami.
In Nadine Gonzalez’s second novel in the Miami Famous series, What Happens in Miami, Miami’s annual Art Basel serves as the backdrop of both a feverish romance, and a possible forgery scandal. Alessandro Cardenas, or Sandro, is an actor on the cusp of international success. Nominated for a Golden Globe and able to make or break an establishment simply by darkening its doorsteps, Sandro is enjoying the fruit of years of hard work and sacrifices. However, not everything glitters in his past. Abandoned by his parents to be raised by his beloved Cuban grandfather, Sandro is on the hunt for the person who is forging his grandfather’s paintings, making a tidy fortune selling them to art collectors both in Miami and all over the country.
As Sandro’s drama unfolds, Angeline Louis, or Angel, is struggling with a difficult history of her own. Smarting from the end of a relationship for which she uprooted herself from Orlando to Miami, Angel is adrift, employed by Gallery Six to be close to the art she loves, but does not believe herself talented enough to create.
Their paths cross when Angel fills in for her injured colleague and delivers a painting to Sandro’s exclusive island for his examination and eventual purchase. However, the mysterious painting comes in second place behind the explosive connection between Angel and Sandro, a chemistry so palpable, everyone in attendance can sense it.
As someone who currently lives in Florida, it’s always exciting to read romances set anywhere in the state, but especially in Miami. Glamorous but also accessible, Miami is a fabulous fusion of Caribbean culture and international influences that is hard to find anywhere else. Gonzalez manages to convey this cultural density through the use of characters and settings that hint, with a broad stroke, at the diversity that makes up this city. The setting is a fitting backdrop to an equally intense, fully textured romance between Sandro and Angel. These are two people who carry the weight of their cultural histories, Sandro in the quest to preserve and protect his grandfather’s art, and Angel, whose family expectations threaten to suffocate the most authentic part of her.
As a romance, What Happens in Miami hits every emotional and sensual beat. The black moment is less an explosion and more of a natural unraveling of a bond that has formed too quickly, and under too many misapprehensions, despite the many things Sandro and Angel have in common. The return from that moment is organic and mature, emerging from a sense of honest emotional growth between the main characters. The setting and events of Art Basel may seem fabulously beyond our reach, but the emotional connection between Sandro and Angel rings natural and true.
Love this book! 4.5 stars Nadine's writing is lush and decadent as if I watching an indie yet sensual movie set in the heat of Miami. I love that it starts off as a one night stand and the two cannot stay away from each other. That kind of instant connection is my catnip! The slight mystery of art forgery adds a special element that I was not expecting but really appreciated it. I love art! I love art museums so this brought all the feels for me. Romance, art, Latinx rep, steam, decadent banter and flirting, all of the goodies. Tomorrow is a live chat with this author follow https://www.instagram.com/latinasread...
A good book that combines the art world and Miami's vibrant, multicultural city. It is the beginning of a big week of art events in the city, and Angel is sent to deliver a painting to the art gallery's mysterious client. She arrives to discover that the mystery man is none other than up-and-coming Hollywood star Alessandro (Sandro) Cardenas. She's a little star-struck and attracted to the sexy star, but she holds it together enough to deliver her spiel about the painting.
Sandro, who usually spends all his time either in Hollywood or on the set, came to Miami mainly to find out who is forging and selling his late grandfather's paintings. His sudden attraction somewhat hinders his concentration on this delivery to the woman delivering the artwork. After agreeing to purchase the painting, he invites Angel to stick around for the party he's giving, hoping to get her into his bed.
I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Angel and Sandro. Still recovering from the end of her last relationship, Angel gives in to the chemistry, thinking it is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. After a passionate night together, she sneaks away before Sandro awakens, preferring to avoid an awkward morning after. Sandro is disappointed that she's gone but has plans to see her again. Seeing him find ways to "accidentally" run into her at various art events was rather sweet. It doesn't take long before they spend all their free time together.
But both Angel and Sandro have baggage that keeps them from being fully open with each other. Angel is an artist who has lost confidence in herself, primarily due to the lack of support from her family. Being with Sandro boosts her self-esteem, even though she knows it will end all too soon. Sandro enjoys the results of years of hard work and often seems full of himself, but sometimes feels like an imposter. Acting comes easy to him, so he isn't always sure he deserves the fame. He can't forget his past - abandoned by his parents and raised by his grandfather, he feels compelled to uncover who is forging the paintings.
I enjoyed seeing Angel and Sandro together as she introduced him to the "real" Miami. It was fun to see them participate in neighborhood events far from the glittering affairs he was used to. The more they got to know each other, the stronger their attraction grew, followed by feelings neither was ready to admit to. Sandro's guilty feelings over not telling Angel the truth about his interest in the paintings begin to wear on him, but he isn't sure how to come clean. When the truth comes out, Angel is devastated by the betrayal. It takes time apart and some emotional self-examination for them to see that they belong together. I liked the ending and seeing the compromises on both their parts.
Family plays a big part in both Angel's and Sandro's lives. Angel is an artist at heart, but family expectations have her questioning her talent and future. I ached for her as she mourned the loss of her dreams, but I also wanted her to tell her parents to back off and let her live her own life. Sandro has his memories of his grandfather, but he also has a brother and niece who live in Miami. He and his brother aren't close, and no matter how he tries, the gulf between them is too wide. They disagree vehemently with each other over the disposition of the paintings. Sandro's niece seems spoiled, flighty, and more than willing to take advantage of her uncle's fame and fortune. Both of them rubbed me the wrong way.
The mystery of the forged paintings was easily solved once Sandro and Angel put their minds to it. Since several of the paintings were sold through the gallery where Angel worked, the detective work wasn't all that hard. I felt terrible for Sandro, but I was slightly irritated that he let the culprit get away with it.
Alessandro, querido, Tú eres caramelo y chocolate. Tú eres el papito de mi vida. Baby cuando pasas por mi lado el corazón a mí me suena así.
FINALLY! I found a romance in which the couple’s love story is front and center. Yes, there is a mystery. There is family. There are friends. But they never take up the energy in the room. This is firmly Sandro and Angel’s story and I’m here for it.
What I LOVED:
• I don’t know how, but the author managed to write a closed-door romance that was as steamy and sexy and spicy as the city of Miami itself. • The Afro-Latinx and Caribbean-American (Cuban and Haitian) and rep is 🔥. There are some heartfelt moments and also some humorous ones that were spot-on. • Alessandro and Angeline are grown adults. They might sometimes have issues that impact their confidence, but they don’t behave like they are still in their late teens or early 20s. (If I had $1 for every book that tells me that the MCs are adults but shows me otherwise . . . ) • I love the theme of pursuing art for a living – how artists struggle, how long it actually takes to “make it,” how having family support is a huge part of success, etc. I also enjoyed the mystery side story and the discussions about family vs. relatives.
This was a fun romance filled with great characters, amazing chemistry, and a surprising mystery element all set in the beautiful backdrop of Miami. Angeline and Alessandro start up a romance pretty much right upon meeting each other but in this book it works because they are still taking the time to get to know each other and both realize that their situation isn’t exactly long term. Both our main characters have some family drama in their past that is holding them back/still affecting them and it was rewarding to see this bring them closer together. There is a side aspect involving some stolen art that is being peddled and while I enjoyed what it brought to the story, I also felt that it was wrapped up too quickly and the story kind of dragged without it. Going into the book we already know what kind of ending we are going to be getting so when it took more added drama for it to finally happen I found myself losing interest.
*Thank you to Harlequin for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Quit reading this book halfway through out of complete frustration. This story lacks any kind of direction. Angel, the female, is inconsistent. She goes back and forth between wanting Alessandro and wanting to leave him. She doesn’t know what she wants except to keep working. She’s always “working” but it’s a little unclear about what exactly she does. I’m also frustrated by the abbreviations like “YOLO” without explanations of their meaning. Unless you’re a millennial or Gen Y or Z, you probably don’t know the meaning. Hey authors, stop abbreviating things!! You frustrate many of your readers. This story didn’t work for me. Everything was fuzzy and convoluted. It didn’t maintain my attention.
What Happens in Miami... Even the title sounds fun, and it is. This is a romance with engaging characters, witty dialogue, and some swoon-worthy moments. But that's not all it is. Nope, we also get some intrigue in the art world, and Nadine Gonzalez gives us a satisfying mystery and a satisfying romance, and it's all done in a story that can easily be read in an afternoon. This is the second Miami Famous novel, but coming from someone who hasn't read the first one, I'd say this works just fine as a standalone. The story is well written, the couple is easy to root for, and we even get to "see" a bit of Miami along with the characters.
Can't tell what I like best about this cover. The guy? Or the purple dress?🤔
Actor and art collector Alessandro Cardenas is trying to find who's forging his late grandfather's paintings.
Angeline Louis is a sales associate at an art gallery. Not one to mix business with pleasure, and she haven't completely processed her last breakup, but Sandro's charisma is too potent and why not throw caution to the wind for only one night?
Will their undeniable chemistry be enough to overcome secrets?
What happens in Miami was sweet. I feel bad for how both their family treat the characters but that's also why I love romance novels, to see them find liberation for others' opinion.
“What Happens in Miami” is book 2 of the Miami Famous series by Nadine Gonzalez.
With the beautiful backdrop of Miami, we are pulled into the world of celebrity and art as Alessandro Cardenas meets Angeline Louis. An instant attraction flares between them, but neither will allow it to get in the way of their goals.
Writing heroes who seem to have it all and heroines who are smart and work hard toward their dreams, Ms. Gonzalez brings us another unique premise in “What Happens in Miami” that readers will surely enjoy.
Angeline (Angel) doesn't really know what she's getting into when she goes to a new client's house and certainly doesn't expect to find actor Alessandro (Sandro) Cardenas but sparks fly from their first meeting!! Nadine Gonzalez delivers a well constructed story about high jinx in the art world and how sometimes a job's more than a job. I loved the way Sandro manages to cross paths with Angel on a regular basis so he can spend time with her and slowly win her love. The story is gripping and fun right from the start and keeps you captivated until the end.
*I received a copy of this book through NetGalley from the publisher.
I found this a quick and enjoyable romance that was a fun read, but didn't blow me away. Sandro by far was the most developed and complex character in my opinion so I really enjoyed reading about him, but a lot of the story itself didn't feel realistic. This is absolutely fine as it is fiction, but sometimes it does jolt me when a character's behavior or attitude isn't quite realistic. That being said I still really enjoyed this story and the writing style, it was a great quick summer read.
I love the culture of the book set in Miami during Art week. Angel, a budding artist herself, is now working with a gallery while deciding to pursue her own goals within the art world. Alessandro is now a prominent actor, and behind the scenes trying to salvage his grandfather's legacy. I did enjoy the book, I just would have love more intimate moments to build the sexual chemistry between the characters just a tad bit more. Otherwise the intertwining of the mystery of who is producing the fake paintings, Angel's coworkers and Alessandro's friends made the book worth reading.
Spicy romance with a great story about art. When Angel first meets Sandro upon delivering a painting to him, she never expected to have one night stand with the actor. Sandro has secrets he is the grandson of Juan David Valero, and he believes the painting are fakes! For Sandro and Angel, it's love at first sight these two were just what the other needed. In the end the niece was the culprit trying to help her father out. The couple got there HEA and what I liked most is that they realize what they really wanted from their careers and each other!
Alessandro and Angeline. Angel works for an art gallery. Sandro is a movie star looking to collect all his grandfather's paintings because he believes them to be forgeries. Their attraction to each other is instantaneous. The story is one art exhibition to the next as Angel and Sandro fall for each and the mystery to the forgeries is solved. There was not a lot of drama nor misunderstandings which is nice to read.
Love takes a mysterious turn and pulls readers along for the ride. Angeline and Alessandro are a spicy blend of secrets and romance that will the heart in stitches. One heartache short of a happy ending, will their love story survive the constant twists and turns of falling in love? Gonzalez takes drama to all new heights with What Happens in Miami. A revealing rollercoaster ride.
Enjoyed the banter between the main characters and how they worked through their insecurities to be together. Loved seeing various parts of Miami through their eyes. Looking forward to reading more stories by this author.
I loved this book! This book describes the Miami nightlife pretty well. Plus, I loved the chemistry between Angel and Sandro. I had a hard time putting this book down!!! Thank you to Nadine Gonzalez for sending me a copy of this book!!!
A romantic story that takes place in Miami. The chemistry between Alessandro and Angeline is soon worthy. But will love survive all the bumps and curves. This is my first book by Nadine Gonzalez. I enjoyed reading this book. I recieved a PDF copy for my honest review.
Probably the best way to experience Art Basel (the Miami art fair) is by reading this book! This excellent romance is for readers who enjoy Jasmine Guillory, Emily Henry, and Alexa Martin’s banter, steaminess and storytelling. Looking forward to Nadine Gonzalez’s future books!!
