Rate this book
In “The Whirlpool,” retired Cape Cod Police Captain Waverly Underhill and Dr. Alexander Scofield try to take a vacation but instead find themselves kidnapped by an escaped convict before being swept into the spiral maw of a monstrous tidal whirlpool, fourteen hundred feet across. Can even their wits save them from one of nature's rarest and most awesome displays of raw power? In “The Cobra in the Kindergarten,” Underhill and Scofield must find a deadly Egyptian cobra escaped in the vicinity of the Robin Hood Elementary School before it kills a child-unless, of course, it finds them first.

Like this series a lot. Can’t see a play, this is the next best thing. Dialogue is clear and performed by the whole cast making it more interesting. Both plots are interesting and keep the audience engaged.

I enjoy listening to the Captain Underhill stories. The cast is always excellent as well.

There were 2 discs in this package.

I got through track 2 of the first disc before skipping the rest entirely; the discussion of whirlpools was simply never ending and I swiftly got bored.

The second disc was a bit better, but the story was unfortunately kind of boring. Based on a true story (a snake loose in a school) it dragged on and on as the characters searched for the snake in a kindergarten class. The recording seems to be of an amateur radio troupe, and they did ok. Often the recording was difficult to hear.

These stories would have been much more enjoyable if I had listened to them anywhere other than my commute to/from work, during which I also generally mull over many other subjects. The full cast and sound effects seemed like they added a lot to the relatively simple mysteries.
