Childhood allergies are booming, affecting almost one in five Australian kids. But what if there was a way to prevent allergies in the first place? What if simple lifestyle changes in the critical first 1000 days could change your baby's life? For families across Australia, eczema, asthma, hay fever and food allergies are constant anxieties, sometimes with devastating consequences. Leading gastroenterologist Dr Vincent Ho has taken a deep dive into the exploding medical field of gut health and explains that from conception to birth, and from breastfeeding to the introduction of solid foods, small steps go a long way in preventing allergies and fortifying your baby's immune system. Dr Ho cuts through the scientific jargon to provide strategies for allergy management and treatment, and shows you how to strengthen your child's gut health for the long term - all before they begin to walk. The Healthy Baby Gut Guide is packed with sensible advice, surprising scientific discoveries and even a nutritionist-approved nine-week infant meal plan to help parents navigate the introduction of common allergenic foods. Practical, easy-to-follow and utterly eye-opening, this book is essential reading for every parent and parent-to-be.
Dr. Vincent Ho is an Australian gastroenterologist and is a proponent of nipping a baby's allergies before they have a chance to get started. He believes allergies start during pregnancy and has developed a 1000 day plan to improve a family's chances of dealing with eczema, asthma, hay fever and food allergies. Included in the book is a nine-week infant meal plan, He stresses the importance of microbiomes and probiotics in an infant's diet. Many of his suggestions are very straightforward and sound relatively easy to implement.

As a person who has suffered from Allergies since I was a baby, I fou nd this book very interesting and also helpful. The way it is set out is designed for parents to help prevent and aid their child to avoid and to treat their allergies. I was surprised to discovery not only do the microbes play such a role in preventing allergies, but also that allergies tend to run in families and may have genetic links. I would suggest that this work be added to any parents library and also a good work to study before having children. The suggested retail price of $18.95 is a small price to pay to prevent years of medical bills and suffering by your child.
A healthy microbiome is key to a healthy life. I enjoyed reading this book and will incorporate it into my practice. As a person who suffered from food allergies, I appreciate that the author touched on this subject. I would recommend this book to parents, and refer back to it.
This book was recieved as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Brilliant! Every parent and parent to be should get their own copy of this book. It has some crucial information for parents and you can go back to it time and time again. I’m a grandparent and after borrowing it from the library decided I want my own copy.
Primarily focuses on food allergies and what the science supports to help infants not develop them; (animal allergies are also mentioned). Easy to read with practical suggestions pre, during and post pregnancy mainly up till the end of the 1000 days.
