You have 6 days to protect your family. 6 days to run from a virus devouring all life on earth. 6 days to survive.
Microbiologist Jess Keller thought it was the worst day of her life. She had lost the only job she ever had, but twenty-four hours later she and her husband, were fighting to keep her family alive.
The story starts off good, but fizzles into a silly, -no story, just blobs moving, coming for them. I know there has to be action, but this became stupid, and there is no way that only 24 hours elapsed with everything they did .
I enjoy a well imagined sci-fi story but in my opinion there need to be certain limits that tie a tale to some form of reality and this story seems to have lost that tie. While I enjoyed the characters and many other aspects of the writing, for me the story was just too bizarre to ever actually get truly pulled into the story. I might feel different about something else by the same writer but for me this book was just too far fetched.
It’s a brilliant read and a great story and it starts as it means to go on, full of action and gore. It’s fast and speeds up right to the end, a proper page-turner.
A mashup of War of the Worlds and The Blob set in the current decade
Jess, a biochemist, along with her police officer husband, Landon, find themselves in a dicey situation. As the story progresses they find themselves having to believe in the impossible, rescue people as they can, and find out the truth is closer to home than originally thought. Phil Maxey’s Six Days to Survive, the first book in his Extinction Gene series, played out as a mashup of War of the Worlds and The Blob set in the current decade in my mind as I gobbled up the words across the page. It was extremely easy to envision the settings and situations in this book and I am looking forward to reading what happens to Jess, her family, and friends in the next book.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This was a bit different than others of the genre with kind of an "Andromeda Strain" vibe. Overall the writing was good and it flowed well. I'm still puzzled why a former co-worker of Jess's would give her a vaccine and we don't yet understand the connection with the space object, the aliens (if that is what they are) and Jess's former company. Landon is a good guy but he had better curtail his desire to run and help anyone who calls or he won't be long for this world. I look forward to the next book.
I like Phil Maxey as an author - I just hate "Zombie" stories - and this is a zombie novel, however it is dressed up.
I always find myself skipping pages in this type of story without it causing me any concern about what I may have missed - and that is not the objective of a book.
It has an interesting sideline into how a virus was created that isn't resolved in Book 1 which is also annoying as I won't be buying Book 2.
Sorry mate - but this one does nothing for me .... but if you are into "zombies" .... ....
Wow! For me this book walked the line between apocalyptic and horror. A darn good blend that keeps those pages turning! It was the appearance of a number of typos that spoiled the story just a little. And the ending was a bit of a let down. Having said that, I intend getting the next book!
6 Days to Survive: a post-apocalyptic fantastic read!
Gave this book four stars as the storyline kept me awake reading until I finished. Characters well written and the book’s pace is solid. Definitely looking at getting the second book to see where this horrific adventure takes me. Will read this book again.
This story is very scary, but difficult to put down. It is not hard to believe that something like this could take place. It is not likely (at this time) that it would happen the same way, but it is possible that something could escape from a lab and start passing on a virus that could kill everyone. I’ll watch for the next book to see how things progress.
A great start to this new exciting end of the world series! Once the action gets going! It's none stop! I did really enjoy this, good storyline & characters! I will look for more by this writer & do recommend this!
Alien takeover or conspiracy... a family must fight to stay alive as those around them are taken over by crazy looking monsters. This story takes readers on emotional roller coasters. Liked the development and description. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
I liked the idea of the story. It kept my interest. The characters were pretty good. I will read more work from this author. Just to see if he keeps the stories as interesting as this one.
It doesn't take long for the action to start on this one. And you won't get any answers yet about the virus. Is it alien? Is it man made? I'll be downloading the next in the series.
This story I thought was going to be like so many others but what a surprise. The family that this story is mostly about, is good and they are traveling to find a cure so they will not turn into the creatures.
Can these creatures be a creation of man or are they from outer space? Trying to escape when armed forces are fighting against their own citizens makes it difficult to escape aliens and the army. Finding help to survive is hard when you have no idea where to look!
This book grabbed me from the start. The idea that this could happen is plausible. This would make a great movie. Hope u enjoy it as much as I did. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
The day she gets fired from her job Jess and her families life turns to hell. A virus is released upon the USA . Determined to survive they trek to the isolated house they had just bought. ReD about their ordeal to get there
Fast paced, vivid settings and characters but needed a better editor and proofreader to catch all the spelling, grammar, punctuation etc. errors. It'd be worth revising.
The concept isn’t unique though the origin of the nemesis is. Everybody is vulgar to the point of “really, again?” Had potential but not interesting enough to pursue the sequel. Not much of a “Thriller.”
Was a little disappointed that the ending was not in the book it started on the second book. But I definitely want to read more! I was hooked wanting to read more and to see what happened!! It’s worth a buy!!!
This was better than i thought it would be. I like the monsters that are combo of whatever they run across and merge with. At this point in book 1 not a lot of info about the how it is happening but i look forward to reading more.
This book was a fun read. Plenty of action/tension going on. The characters were fun to follow. I didn't ever get fully immersed in the story, but it was a fun way to spend a few hours.
