If my baby sister wants to have a wedding in the middle of nowhere, who am I to tell her 'No'? Even if small town mindsets make me itch. At least the guy running the only bed and breakfast in town, Randall, with his curious nature and kind smile, seems nice enough.
Being the only gay man in a small town isn't easy. Adding to that the past-due rent bills and the stress of managing an empty bed and breakfast. It was a blessing to hear that there would be a large wedding party staying over. I hadn't expected anything of it except being able to actually pay the bills, until I met Mister Tall, Dark, and Handsome. And, unfortunately, straight. Or so I thought.
Small City Heart is a standalone Gay First Time Romance with a HEA and NO cheating!
Slow build and sweet with just a spoonful of spice: unexpected😊
I was surprised, in a good way, by the sweetness of the connection building between this bed and breakfast owner and his recently-divorced guest. Heavy steam and quick hook-up with limited pagetime spent on character development are features I typically identify with a work by Van Cole and that was so not the case here. Sexual tension abounds but the burn escalates gradually and the author keeps the reader waiting for the consummation of their pent-up desire. In the meantime, Nathan and Randall get to know each other.
I particularly liked financially struggling Randall who's a nice guy barely making it running his operation in a remote country location that sees few visitors. Sophisticated NYC resident and frequent traveler Nathan lives a polar opposite lifestyle and, I was quite happy to find that the author left their relationship promising but still with some realistic details to work out.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was a really sweet story which I enjoyed immensely. Nathan has arrived in a small town for his sister’s wedding. He has recently become divorced and his family are worried about him. But when he shows up at a bed and breakfast which is owned by Lennox, who inherited it from his grandparents. He is pleasantly surprised by how pretty the area is. But mostly is attracted to Lennox himself.
This story develops with the characters becoming attracted to each other and then Nathan’s exploration of his new feelings with Lennox. They spend what time they have together exploring their sexuality and you assume they have a happily ever after.
I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and review with my honest and fair opinion.
This was a sweet slow burn. Randall ran the bed and breakfast in the small town that Nathan’s sister wedding was in. Nathan lived in New York. Nathan was recently divorced. There is an instant connection between them. Sexual tension is rampant with these two as they navigate the short time that Nathan is in town. I loved Randall and Nathan. It was a good story, short read. The story was well written, moved fairly quick and smooth. I was gifted an ARC from the author for an honest review. This was solely based on my honest thoughts and views.
Good storyline with interesting characters that were likeable and somewhat developed. The story was short, fast paced, and told using dual pov. Randall and Nathan are the main characters that are opposites in many ways but develop a friendship then a relationship rather quickly. Mabel is a great secondary character, she is an old busybody who adds some laughs. However, there were some editing errors and what really took me out of the story and irritated me were the many inconsistencies.
When you have 2 protagonists that live far apart, it helps if one isn't happy where he's currently living, or is at least flexible. These guys are from two different worlds, and even if they really love each other, I don't see how it's going to work long term.
These guys have chemistry, but I don't feel like I got to know them. From what I learned, I'm not sure I like them, either.
This book wasn’t that long. Though I was curious about this book. No lie I didn’t even know it was a MM romance book lol. Until I actually looked at the book again. But I enjoyed it.
I figure that Nathan was going to give Randall a chance. Because they click time they meet. Even when Randall no I meant even when Nathan found out Randall was gay he didn’t have a problem with it.
I think he knew already, plus Mabel even knew they had a connection...
The whole book literally happened within a few days. I'm not sure how I felt about that. Their romance started and the book ended just like that. I was definitely expecting more.
Great story so romantic. Nathan and Randall are so genuine but both introverted. Also living a great distance apart. The only thing that was important was being together.
Another fabulous read from this author. The characters were so sweet together. You can not go wrong with this author. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
