Will our survivors make it through this Winter of Blood, or will they be buried by an avalanche of the dead?Find out in the thrilling 4th installment of This Rotten World… This Rotten Winter of Blood.
OOF-DA! So, the algorithm for KU, K, and GR books as recommended has to be skewed up somehow. I noticed this one come up in my feed for several weeks, so I decided to plunge it. And I wish I hadn't because THIS volume is #4, not a stand-alone book at all. No listing to indicate this is an ongoing series, just the title and the text jumps in. I kept plugging away, sure at any moment I would come across the background I was sure had to be there, somewhere. The story keeps plodding on, death is at every crossroad and still, I can't find out HOW IT ALL STARTED. I should have known. If readers aren't scoring the books and posting reviews, the last of the current series will show up as a stand alone, when it might be (as in this case, #4, 8,9) or further down the list. There's no precedent, it just starts with a guy on a beach manning a deserted and wrecked lighthouse. WTH?
I should have checked and rechecked the listing, maybe done an author search before beginning this book. As it is. I am rather embarrassed to admit I am almost 2/3 through the narrative and POP! somewhere in my cerebral cortex, the name of the author suddenly pinged up against some hard data. Sure enough, there are often multiple volumes published under the main catchy title, "This Rotten World", which at first I thought might mean something about prez #47, the GOP, the current state of US government and economy or maybe an upbeat Rod Serling's Twilight Zone, 2025. Nope. This is part 4 of what looks to be at least a 9 piece set, so I am at once ahead and behind the norm in the storyline. I can't review the book as it stands. Not until I go back and catch up on books 1-3, which, given the pace and content of #4, I might not bother with at all. The premise isn't bad, but how much can one actually say about a zombie apocalypse that's nice? I'm going to be patient and give it a try, but no promises. I do think it might help, if in the prelim pages, along with the pub info and the chapter headings, there is a tagline listed that clearly identifies the book as the "Ongoing Saga of the Survivors: This Rotten World, part 4". That might have saved me some time. As it stands, I rather much already know the story isn't going to be particularly nice or sensitive. The fault is mine, but a little direction might have been helpful. Let's see how it all began, now. I'm apparently an idiot.
It was easy to rate this book as there are very few authors who once I discover where I tear thru 9 of the author's books in less than a week. I started the series on audible but sadly at the time only 2 books were available which meant I had to find time to read them which was a challenge as I'm a full time nanny & mom of 5. This zombie series had me so hooked that I'm devastated that book 5 isn't yet released, especially after just reading one heck of a well written cliffhanger ending that left me biting my practically nonexistent nails(seriously this author is a truly gifted storyteller from this zombie series to Enemies of Our Ancestors who excels at not just capturing your interest but creates characters who are easy to become invested with as you follow them from beginning to end). I hope that the next book is released soon.
It's a horrible hard Winter for the survivors. I do have a feeling that the soldiers (plus Amanda, Rudy and Andy) will meet up with the OG group at some point. Now they have a child with them and, the only survivors of the main group have a baby with them. I don't want to hope for anything. But after all this fighting and barely surviving... Something has got to give. I was slightly upset The motley crew of survivors that I've been reading about since the beginning have grown on me. While it's, I guess realistic that everyone would make it. Her death seemed unnecessary. I do like the random characters that pop up in the beginning of each book. 3.5 stars
This Rotten World is one of my favorite zombie series. From book 1 this series has been a brutal story where you just shouldn't get attached to anyone. This installment was the no different. Only now instead of just the undead and other unscrupulous humans mother nature herself is trying to kill our two bands of survivors. Pregnancy and child birth, snow and cold and mother nature isn't done yet. Are crying babies a good thing in the zombie apocalypse? We also meet a new character alone in a lighthouse and a captain on a container ship of survivors. How will this ship full of people fare for the first time on land after the fall of civilization? I have a guess.
I have to say this is one of the best series I’ve read. Most books you can figure certain characters are safe. Not here. No way. People you like are going to die. Craziness is all around. The story line is excellent!!! The cliffhanger at the end! Ahhhhh! I need the next book!! I need to know what happens with the rest of the characters, the babies, the zombies even for that matter!!!
The ending came fast and disastrous.. although I think I know maybe what’s going to happen because of the first part of Book 1.. the bowling ball.. I just never know if any of the characters are safe! It’s like the world is conspiring against everyone, not just the zombies.. the weather especially! Good series! On to the next one😜
I give this book 5 stars all the way it was such a great read, although just like the previous books it had quite a few spelling errors. Other than that it was amazing, I was flipping through pages like no ones business. Every page I read had my heart racing 100% recommend this series to anyone looking for a good page turner. Can't wait to see what the next book has to offer!.
Riddled with grammatical errors, which I would be willing to forgive if the author hadn't killed off all but one of the likable cast of characters. I found myself trying to push though the rest of the book just so I could be done with the series. Then I found out there was one more book released in the series... I will not be getting that one.

Really enjoy these books, mostly because not a single character is safe regardless of the time taken to get to know them. Even the heroes are not exempt and this is exactly how I would imagine it playing out should it become a real scenario Well written in my opinion. I really need to slow down reading them though as I will miss them when finished
I have read series before where 4 or five books in, I get bored. However Jacy does a fantastic job of keeping you intrigued and guessing what's next with every page. I would highly recommend this series
Really good series.Sad at the loss of some characters in this book but Jacy Morris definitely doesn't take any prisoners. Good series well worth reading .
