DNF 25%. I didn't connect with the characters or writing, time to move on.

This was definitely not for me. Violence upon violence. It was way too much. That’s as enough for me 🥴

Good solid read, bloody in places. Good twists to keep us the readers hooked.
Needs a final edit it’s rough in places.
Author, has mixed up a few words in places, used surf instead of serf. Manor instead of manner.

This book is what magic is all about, bringing the reader to be transported to a whole new world of magic. There was a real balance of darkness and realm of fantasy with lightness and humor. Turner brought the characters to life, as he penned this amazing story and created his characters. I was entranced by this story. The writing was fast-paced. This book is a real page-turner. You won’t want to put it down, so clear your schedule, get comfortable and settle in for a treat. I received a copy of this novel through BookFunnel. This is an honest review, and my own opinions.

Aiden L. Turner sets a very high bar with the prologue of "The Banner of the Broken Orc". It's almost good enough to stand by itself as one of those short stories that leave you wanting more. The rest of the book was a tiny bit slow in comparison. You'll find oodles of gore and guts in this book, but it's all relevant to the story. Great writing, great plot, and I'm still deciding how I feel about the characters (but they're interesting!).

Wow, wow, wow.
This is my type of book. Written in great detail with characters that are both loved and hated. The fight scenes are a choreography of blades, dance, tactics, and blood. In the book you will have action, fighting, love, loss, good, evil, horror, friendship, deceit, humans, Elves, Orcs, Goblins and other creatures. Beware though all is not what it seems.

An epic story following the best traditions of the fantasy genre. Aiden L. Turner’s writing is clear, flowing and exciting. The complex characters evoke an emotion, whether like or dislike, and the reader is quickly drawn into their world. I could go on, but I don’t want to spoil the story. Just read it and find out for yourself!
There are some limited issues with the text, with regards to punctuation and typos, but nothing some careful copy-editing wouldn’t easily remedy.
In short, I really enjoyed Book One of the Call of Darkness Saga and can’t wait for the next instalment. Highly recommended!

Although it could possibly have done with a final edit, Mr Turner has shown himself to be a potential Master of Epic Fantasy.
The plot, the wonderful mixture of all types of creature (human or otherwise) described in such detail, the detail in separating the good from the evil and the wonderful use of descriptive prose made this one of the best reads I have enjoyed in a long time.
The storyline had twists within twists from the start of the book right through to the last paragraph. I had read only half of the book 2 days ago but felt compelled to keep reading to the end as Mr Turner had me enrapt in his writing. I hope the rest of this epic journey holds to the same standards as set in thus first book. I will be eagerly awaiting the next instalment .

Wow, that was a bloody fantastic debut book by Aiden L. Turner, The Banner Of The Broken Orc. An epic dark tale of light vs dark, Mr Turner has a given us a new dark world full of nightmares and monsters. His worldbuilding, plot and setting is brilliant, fast paced and action packed with bloody and gore riddled scenes and battles that will have you hooked from the start to finish. In a land where man, elves, orcs and goblins and other foul creatures of darkness vow to wipe each other from the face of the world. In this book the Dark Lord has risen and summons those who would serve. Clothed in darkness and despair, the champion of evil reaches out across the void of awareness and lays claim to the minds of many and his most foulest, A miasma of malevolence spreads throughout the land like a disease. But where there is dark, there is light, Jacob Prince of men, lord of light, and champion of the weak, Jacob's immense physical strength is matched only by his great kindness. I forced myself up to the sixth chapter and just couldn't take any more. I have read violent books, and some with more amounts of cruelty, violence, and gore than others, but this...
Is just violence on top of violence, cruelty on top of cruelty, and gore...
Just for shock value? Gore for the sake of gore?
Nope. I don't even know what the plot is six chapters in. Who is the hero? Because they are all violent and corrupt and raging... even the two who "may" have leaned toward just normalcy.
I think this style is supposedly dark fantasy? But I've read other dark fantasy that were nowhere near this.
I am disappointed. I was excited to read this at the suggestion of several other fans of fantasy.
This level of violence is not for me.

Very exciting!
Great story! Lots of options in a world of humans, Elves and goblins/Orcs to do battle. It seems that the humans must battle the Elves as well as the goblins and orcs. Will they be able to do so? Good start to this story. Good world building, good characters. Cannot wait to see what happens next!
