The President's Assistant

Rate this book
Pregnant by the potential next POTUS? Washington, we have a problem here.

It is called Reid Prentice.
The irresistibly handsome last-minute candidate who runs for presidency.
He’s looking for a new assistant to support his campaign.
I’m ready to notch up my political career.
Sounds like a win-win situation, right?
Yet Reid isn’t your ordinary prince from a fairytale.
His arrogance is off the charts and he can be cold and demanding.
At the same time, I’ve never felt more alive and excited to be around a man.
Soon enough, he asks me to stay in his office.
Seems like he wants to mentor me not only in politics, but also biology.
A few weeks later, the two lines on my pregnancy test make my world turn upside down.

Is now a good time to let the potential future leader of our country know that I’m carrying his unexpected surprise?

“Is there anything about me you like? If we can find at least one thing you actually enjoy about me, it will be a lot easier to convince yourself and your mom that you didn’t make a mistake.” “Um…” she hesitated. A long time. That wasn’t very encouraging.

To be fair to the author, I think this is the way I felt about Reid Prentice too. I really just did not like him which didn’t make me very invested in the story. The entire story was too calculated, I didn’t feel like he really cared about her at all. Not for me.

I got this from KU LIbrary.

DNF @ 15%

It starts with Harper finding her on/off lover having sex with someone else and then finding out that she's being let go from her political aide position. She decides to head out to her friends club for its opening night and is introduced to a presidential candidate, Reid Prentice.

I struggled with this from the start. The style wasn't as smooth as I'd have liked or I'm used to.

I'll be honest, I didn't get far into this before I put it back down. I picked it back up because I'd just started it, it might just be an dodgy start, right? I actually don't think it was. It wasn't working for me at all, hence my DNF'ing it.

Reid was definitely not likeable at all. He treats Harper like an attractive barbie doll/sex doll in that first sex scene. I have nothing against enemies to lovers/hate sex but I have to feel something for the characters first and I actually really disliked both of them in that first 15% that I read.

And speaking of sex scenes... I did not find the ones in this book anywhere near sexy. I actually just skimmed them because they were not doing anything for me at all. There wasn't much interaction between them, none of the usual lovely description I expect. It felt very clinical and wrong. It felt more of an erotica than a romance and I'm not a fan of those.

This was not my thing at all.

Finished

I didn't love the book barely liked it. Harper was a b***ch most of the book. It was messy and rushed at the end. I will not read more

Easy read, emotional book

This is the second book of this authors I have read. She has a really easy reading style, completely engages you with the characters. This book brings you back to what really matters, family. It ends on a real good feel factor, having gone through some emotional lows, bringing into the light problems faced during pregnancy, in a tactful and genuine way. Written in a touching, believable way that takes the reader on the journey, a real roller-coaster if a ride. Good read.

Harper's day isn't going very well after walking in on her longterm boyfriend cheating on her. She heads home to find that her internship for the Senator has been terminated. Instead of wallowing at home, she heads out to her friend's new club in an attempt to forget everything. Luckily Asher introduces her to a local Congressman who is looking for a new assistant. Inviting her for an interview the following day, however, it does not go well with Reid rubbing her up the wrong way earning him a piece of her mind. Making a lasting impression on him he calls later that night to meet her at the club.

Demanding that she goes and waits in his car as she is well on the way to being drunk. They banter back and forth in the car and end up having sex before he offers her the job. They hook up again, however, he later decides it's best to keep their relationship professional. Weeks later Harper discovers she is pregnant and Reid convinces her the best thing is to get married as this would help his path to the White House. Sadly, they are subjected to scandals and falsehoods in the press which takes its toll on Harper's pregnancy.

A pull on the heartstrings during this rollercoaster of a relationship. Giving an insight into life in front of the press.

Harper walks in on her boyfriend cheating on her and thinks her day couldn't get any worse she's wrong. When she gets home she finds out her internship has been terminated so now she has to find a new one. She ends up going to her friend's club to try and forget her troubles. Her bestie's man introduces her to Congressman Prentice as a prospect employer. Reid is intrigued by her and doesn't want to upset Asher so he tells her to come in for an interview. The next day Harper doesn't handle the interview well so she's sure she won't get the job. Later when she's at the club Reid calls to meet there. Sparks fly between them and they end up leaving together. Things heat up between them and Harper isn't sure how things will go between them. Not long after their night Harper discovers that she has a little memento from their time together. What will this mean for Reid's run for President? Can they be together without a scandal?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

A beautiful enemies to lovers story with a happy ever after!

The President’s Assistant shows an attraction between a Congressman running for President and an inspiring young woman who has aspirations to become President one day. A night of passion in the back of his limo that led to her pregnancy. Reid had fallen in love with Harper when he first met her. She was his Yang to his Yang. Harper was looking to learn from Reid as his personal assistant, but she told him she was pregnant things changed. He wanted to marry her but it was at first for political gain. Harper was sick from the pregnancy and the press and Reid components was trying to slander him and knock out his popularity. Reid and Harper had to fight all the bad press and the negativity surrounding her. This was a great book. The story seemed so real with the real life pregnancy issues Harper face. This book gets five stars.❤️❤️

2-2,5

Enjoyed both characters. Both had extremely strong personalities. Harper no nonsense and directness was a asset and a curse. Wanting to get more political experience she accepted a assistance postion to presidential candidate Reid how was a male who totally disrespected women. Harper did not tolerate his behavior. They had strong sexual relationship outside the office. When Harper became pregnant, Reid only worried about how it would effect him running for president. After talking to their friends, Harper agreed to marry him. The marriage was difficult for both. Harper's pregnancy because life threatening for her and the baby. Not knowing if Harper would make it through the coma, Reid stepped up to father hood. Seeing what the stress did to Harper and may have to raise the baby by himself, he did what was necessary for his family

Harper and Reid

I loved Reid, the Congressman for his patience and love for Harper. However, Harpers insults and continued rudeness hardly deserves Reid to be her husband, and so deserves a three star. Her behavior took away from the story ofa unhealthy pregnancy, she deserves little empathy. Had I read this book first, I would not have read the other two books regarding the friends Ophelia and Eliza.

If it wasn't for Reid, this book would have gotten a 1 star. Compared to the other books written of the 3 friends, this was the worse however, it had a happy ending.

My top choice was Ophelia and Asher's love story, closely followed by Else and Andre. Read about the relationship and love between these two couples and you would not be disappointed. I highly recommend.. Five stars all the way💛

I really did not like this book. The characters are hideous, and the story is so choppy. One minute Reid is saying they'll make it work, then he dumps her, then she's pregnant and he proposes, but she still hates him and says yes...It just makes no sense. None. Your last president (Trump as you may be reading this a long time in the future) has 5 children by three women, and has been accused of sexual assaults, and yet still got elected (our current PM is even more prolific - 7 kids) so it seems to me that one child out of wedlock would not totally derail his chances. the fact that they are both hateful might.

I lost all hope when Faye confused antidote for anecdote.
I keep trying with these books because I like contemporary romance and they are free on kindle unlimited, but I rather think this will be the last of Mia Faye's that I read.

First book by Mia Faye. This was a hot 5 star read. The book well written.

Meet Reid Prentice-Panty melting hot and arrogant-Reid has decided to run for presidency.Reid is looking for an assistant to help with his campaign.
a man.

Meet: Harper is an intern in Washington. In one day she finds her boyfriend and her internship is over.

Harpers next job is working for Reid as his assistant. There is chemistry between the two but Harper does not put up with Reed's crap.

The both are not looking for love but have this love hate relationship as they get to know each other more.

Will they give into the sexual chemistry between them or will Harper remain strong against it.

Overall a good story

I have to say I struggled a bit with this book for a good chunk of the story. I found Harper to be a bit too brash at times, and she was overly hard on Reid. She was also reckless with her health but blamed it all on Reid. They were both selfish, though. Reid often did and said things that made me want to punch him and seemed unrealistic considering his past. Most of the time, I liked him more than I liked Harper.

There were some editing issues, but nothing I couldn't bypass for the sake of the story.

In the end, I liked the story, and eventually grew to like Harper enough to finish the book, but the real star of this one was Reid. I'll read more from this author!

Harper & Reid

Harper is an intern in Washington and Reid is. Congressman. Her bad day starts with finding her boyfriend with another woman and absolutely no doubt what they were up to. She returns home to find out her internship is over and she needs to find another job. With her heart broken and sad from the day she had, she heads out to her friends grand opening and her life changes. This is the second book in An Enemies to Lovers romance by this author and I couldn’t put it down. Think I found another great author.

That Was One Amazing Story

I totally enjoyed the book and it would have gotten 5 stars BUT... One - the title is misleading, there was never a president in the story. Two - the author should hire a new editor. Missing words, words that didn't belong, wrong words used, misspellings, two people's names either misspelled or made up. Three - chapter 31 ended with him receiving a phone call while at home letting him know Harper was awake. Chapter 32 has him at the hospital in her room talking on phone when she wakes up.

I have mixed feelings about this book. First I believe the storyline was good but it became daunting to read as the auntor kept repeating the same thing over and over and I got bored after a minute.

The heroine irritated me with her attitude and behavior, is technically her fault, the guy stepped up and yet he's the bad guy? That really confused me. Her attitude was not needed even if she felt guilty. Her actions worried me a bit.

Overall the storyline was ok just not that interesting...

I hate him, but I love him???? Can a strong physical attraction turn to real, true love? Plenty of heat in this good, standalone, enemies to lovers story. Though there were some slow spots, this is not typically predictable and had a great, heartwarming HEA. Definitely worth the time.

My favorite line:

"“Your daddy is going to change the world for you…” I said as I kissed her on the forehead just like I had her mother."

Oh my goodness, This book was an easy reading story . The downfall to the book was the explicit sexual passages. I felt like putting the book down several times but finally just skipped over those paragraphs. The story developed slowly about the love between 2 people who got married because she was pregnant and he was running for President. True love finally wins them both over. I probably will not read any more by this author unless it is "cheap."

Reid is a presidential candidate and hires Harper as his assistant. The more time they spend together the closer and I do mean closer, they get. When a little stick with two lines enters the relationship it changes everything for them. This is a steamy political romance packed with drama, angst, humor, unexpected twists and a HEA. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Loved Harper & Reid

Loved it! I’ve loved how resilient Harper was.. I loved how she didn’t fall head over hills for the guy within weeks.. how she fought tooth and nail for herself. Reid knew what he wanted and he didn’t want to love again after what his ex did to him which was really horrible. I loved how this wasn’t the perfect fairy tale.

Meh. I just. I don't know. I wanted to like it but I couldn't. It just felt like something was missing. Harper was unnecessarily cold hearted at points. The love felt forced and weird and I just. Meh. I don't know. It was easy enough to read but it was just lacking something and I wouldn't read it again.

This was annoying and obnoxious and yeah. The male lead is pretentious and creepy. The female aid is obnoxious and annoying. I have no idea if he’s in the house or the senate because they keep switching those back-and-forth. Irritating. Dialogue is clunky. Seriously not the worst thing I’ve read also totally not for me

Really love Reid, he’s arrogant, rude and gets what he wants, on the hand Harper is a hand full doesn’t mind to speak her mind. Their story together is awesome with each removing walls from their hearts and facing life head on , they both realize what they have and how fast it can be taken away. Great story with a HEA

The President's Assistant

The characters really went through a lot over the course of the book. There was a lot of good character development as the book progressed. I was like Harper as I didn't much care for Reid but as he changed he became likeable so you really related to Harper.

Harper was a Harpy

There was no reason for this to be an enemy to lovers book. Harper could make an enemy out of anyone. She was singularly unlikable. I hope not all this authors books involve the guys giving up their livelihoods in the name of love. This is getting old fast. I will try one more and then we shall see.

The storyline itself had promise, but as with the first book in this series, it was just not well written. There was not a smooth transition from start to finish as a truly good book should have. The characters were never really developed individually or with each other as they went through their relationship.
