This was an entertaining read with great voice and style. It was funny but also very helpful and insightful. It covers self awareness and also awareness of ones interactions with others. It also showed the connection between the two which was crucial. How do we feel, think, judge, and self talk ourselves and how it projects outward onto others. Excellent read.

This book is divided into two sections: The Pursuit of Flawsome and Your Transformation. The author relies heavily on other’s concepts. For example, she credits Tyra Banks for coining the term “flawsome” and uses her as an embodiment of the concept in several places. The author also taps gurus such as Brene Brown and concepts such as the quest for enlightenment in Buddhism and the Japanese practice of kintsukuroi.

At one point the author says that this book is not a checklist of things to do to become flawsome, because the process of acceptance and love is different for everyone. Rather, she includes some key principles to consider. While each section ends on some questions for self reflection, I would have preferred having the important concepts summarized at the end of each section like many self help books do for easy reference. There’s no resource page for further study or other tools to help implement the concepts.

Overall, the book contains a bunch of wisdom to consider. However, I would have preferred a bit more organization and unpacking of the key concepts along with some tools to help implement them. For example, the section that speaks to understanding triggers could have easily been expanded from its two paragraph length and have included more examples.

The book is written in a conversational tone with plenty of author anecdotes, but feels a bit rushed as through it is an expanded keynote speech rather than a complete resource.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for providing a free ebook edition of this title in exchange for my review.

I don't usually care for self help type books, so I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book. But I found it very easy to read, conversational and enjoyable. Also, I appreciated the fact that the author didn't pretend to be the originator of all of the ideas in the book, but instead pulls in other well known guru's.

I feel like there was a lot of good information to consider in this book, and I could see myself going back to re-read sections. I do wish a few of the sections had been a little longer, maybe included examples.

I will recommend this book to others.

It's alright. Gets a little whoo-ish. Best parts are the journal prompts and quotes from others. Don't read if you don't like the word flawsome. It's a common theme throughout. I'd thought it would hit harder given the title, but it's a gentle pep talk.
