The Little Mandarin Reaches the Stars

“Little pig,” said the little mandarin, “let’s go to the moon.” This is the beginning of the adventure between two friends as they try to reach the moon. On the way, they learn about bravery and stretching oneself—and ultimately that what you’re really looking for may not be exactly what you thought. This bilingual story follows their adventures and provides a fun and basic introduction to some common Chinese characters, for English and Chinese speakers alike.

I was very excited to have won this book as a giveaway! First off, I loved the artwork and bilingual nature of the book. Just to let readers know a little more about it, the book features simplified Chinese characters written below the English words.

It was a little shorter than I expected (~8 pages) and didn't include pinyin or bopomofo for readers who are learning Chinese, but I loved the "character guide" at the end that illustrates different Chinese characters as pictures of each word it represents.

I won this book thru a Goodreads giveaway drawing. My 5 yr old loves this book so much, that it has it's own place on our dining room table since we read it with every meal now. We like how the Mandarin words are at the end of the book for each major event on the pages, and how the words are drawn into the books.
