When a weekend getaway turns deadly, Noelle and Hunter have to solve the mystery before anyone else ends up dead.
Everything is peachy for Noelle. Her business is clicking right along, her family is healthy and happy, and all her doubts about taking things to the next level with Hunter were for nothing. The only tiny complaint she has is that she's been burning the candle at both ends and needs a break. When Hunter surprises her with a weekend getaway to her favorite cabin in the mountains, she can't wait to get away for some fishing, four-wheeling, and front-porch sitting.
As usual, though, trouble finds her when she goes out for a peaceful morning walk and stumbles over the body of a missing hiker. With his girlfriend still missing, Noelle and Hunter rush to find her before she, too, falls victim to the mountain murderer.
I was born and raised in the South and even hung my motorcycle helmet in Colorado for a few months. I've always had a touch of wanderlust and have never feared just packing up and going on new adventures, whether in real life or via the pages of a great book.
When I was a little girl, I didn't want to grow up to be a writer—I wanted to raise unicorns and be a superhero. When those gigs fell through, I chose the next best thing: creating my own magical lands filled with adventure, magic, humor, and romance.
I live in Florida with my two dogs and when I'm not writing or reading, I'm racing motorcycles with my taller, more handsome half, hanging out at the beach, or binge-watching anything magical on Netflix.
I'm eternally grateful for all the people who help make my life what is today - friends, readers, family. No woman is an island.

This is an amazing supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a very entertaining storyline. This is one series of many different ones in a magical world by this author. Every series is a home run knockout. In this particular one a familyof witches are well-known for generations in the town and area. The main character in this particular story is Noel. In the beginning of the series her sister Shelby was there as well but she has moved off to college and is now in a series of her own. Her aunt is a member of the post living community. In other words a ghost. That is something else about this town it has an active post living community that can be seen by specific people that the ghosts reveal themselves to. Along with Noel is her cousin who owns a little café big shop coffee shop in town. Her other aunt and a couple of other which is here or there. There are also a few other supernaturals in and around the story at times. Noel‘s boyfriend is the town sheriff. Noel‘s main gift is a kitchen which but she has acquired many other gifts overtime and you will have to read on to find out what they are. She has a knack for helping her boyfriend/fiancé Sheriff Hunter Woods solve crimes around town. On occasion they have even saved the world. Every Seriess by this author is extraordinary entertaining fun and well worth reading. Oh yeah don’t forget the talking miniature donkey named Max. I get a kick out of him every time he’s in a scene.
First I have to share something Belle (a ghost and previous owner of a salon. Several characters in these books can see her.) said:
“Coralee got a weddin’ magazine in the other day, and I swear, some of them dresses were awful. One looked like one of them bushes you see trimmed into three balls, and a couple others were so short you could just about see the model’s religion.”
Ahahaha!!
So good! First thing that comes to mind is how I am glad I’m not a brat like Olivia, because personally I like my eyebrows where they are. Lol.
Noelle and Hunter are that much closer to their own wedding now and before this series ends maybe they’ll even talk of having a daughter themselves!
This was a good one that kept me guessing on the Whodunnit until the very end. Well, I actually had my suspicion on who the killer was and in all honesty I was right! Yay! It’s not always the most obvious person, but then again… sometimes it is.
It’s really nice how Hunter includes Noelle into his investigations, because other Cozy mysteries I’ve read don’t always have the boyfriend being so supportive of his girlfriend’s nosiness aka putting herself into possible danger. But she’s a witch and I guess she is capable of protecting herself, so it’s ok.
Next is book 15 of 17: Marriage is Murder. I assume this will be the book with Noelle and Hunter’s wedding. They’ll probably have to catch the killer right before their “I do”’s. Can’t wait!
Engaging read. Good mystery I didn't solve until the murderer was revealed. It is good to see how well things are going for Noelle and Hunter. The whole family feels like people I know!

With his girlfriend still missing, Noelle and Hunter rush to find her before she, too, falls victim to the mountain murderer. This is the 16th book in my Witches of Keyhole Lake Southern Mysteries series.
A murder mystery that shows a slice of life in a small Georgia town where the heroine is a witch engaged to the human sheriff. The heroine, Noelle Flynn, is a near-30 witch who is a baker and furniture maker that seems to know everyone in her small hometown. The hero, Sheriff Hunter Woods, is a transplant from Indianapolis who is not above using his finance's lie-detector abilities to help him on a case.
This was the first book of this series that I picked up, and I would not recommend reading these books that way. This felt more like a slice of life book where we check in on what seems like almost everyone in town, rather than a sleuth looking for a killer. Although to be fair they do a little looking, but mostly it's what's going on in town followed by making an arrest before the town can get on with the important things - like a wedding. There were so many characters in this book, that I didn't get much depth from any of them, but again that might be because I haven't read previous books in the series.
*****Spoiler Alert***** This Book Includes Violence. Finding a body dead by gunshot, interrupting attempted strangulation. Sex. None.
Murder in the Mountains is Book 14 in the Keyhole Lake Witches series by Tegan Maher! This is such a fantastic series I was so excited to hang out with Noelle and the gang again! Hunter takes Noelle away for the weekend up in the mountains and they discover a dead body. With the mood ruined, and Hunter being the Sheriff, they are off to investigate to try and solve the murder before she surves as Maid of Honor at Anna Mae's wedding.
This was such a good mystery and I was so EXCITED to see Noelle's sister Shelby back for the wedding. She is one of my favorite characters in the series.
This can be read as a stand alone, but you will surely find more enjoyment reading the books from the beginning.
Also, I love how positive this author is and at the end of the book she has a positive message we all need to here :
"So if you find yourself standing in the rain, look for the rainbow. I promise you, its there somewhere" Seriously brought me to tears.
I can't wait for the next book in this FANTASTIC series!!!!
I think someone completely forgot to proof read this book. Placeholders instead of names, misspelled words, extra commas, etc... The books in this series went from 230 pages to 130 pages and this was more of a short story than a full book (some authors actually call these novellas). The story felt very rushed and the characters weren't developed at all. The way the murder was solved read like an afterthought. Also why exactly is Noelle in charge of Anna Mae's wedding? That part made absolutely no sense, except maybe to show how busy Noelle is. Why would anyone make their maid of honor deal with the wedding that's not theirs? I think the author is so focused on pushing out multiple books that the quality is starting to suffer. Grab it if you're getting it for free in KU but skip if you're thinking of buying it. This book was very, very meh and I started out absolutely loving the series.
Like your favorite ol cozy tshirt, Tegan's books are a fantastic cozy read that you easily fall back into each time you pick one up! Meaning, there's never any readjusting to the author's form of writing, never any struggling over remembering people or plots and best off you get a check-in with all the characters you love so much because they always make a quick appearance. I thought this was a terrific book, just like the rest in the series and I highly recommend it. PS. I really loved reading about Matt and Anna May's wedding and I can't wait for Noelle's .
Back to Keyhole Lake with Noelle and friends...Tegan did a wonderful job of including all the various characters from the series! Just enough intrigue and magic, making this an easy story to follow. I especially enjoyed one of the new characters....a feisty lady that reminds me of my own mom. I will let you figure out who I mean....anyway, have fun!
Noelle and Hunter plan a getaway at a mountain cabin. What could go wrong? Murder most foul. Ms Maher will keep you guessing until the end as to who done it. A visit to Keyhole Lake for me is like coming home. These are my people, and I’ve missed them terribly. Grab yourself an iced tea and enjoy your visit!
This was another great book in this series! This series is a favorite of mine and this latest book is no exception. I love the continuing story and character building that happens across the series. The maim mystery in the book is wrapped up by the end with a twist you didn't see coming. I highly recommend this book, and the series!
Hunter surprised Noelle with a weekend at a cabin in the mountains which they both are enjoying until they come across a dead body in the road. Can they figure out who did this before anyone else gets killed? This isn't the weekend they were hoping they would have for a getaway. Another wonderful read in this series which I enjoyed very much.
It started off boring for me cause it shouldn't have taken me days to read this book, am getting annoyed about the little hints about their father. Is he dead, evil, good or went away to keep them safe. Just get it over with and she needs to start dealing with her powers and find a way to change that donkey back to a man.
I enjoyed the latest story in the Keyhole Lake series. The balance in life between the bad things that happen and the wonderful things was clearly on display. I really noticed a huge increase in misspellings and grammatical errors. Clearly missing an editor. Hope the next book is better.
Lots of stress with Anna Mae's wedding and a murder to solve before. Lots of suspects too. As usual, things turn out for the best and life goes on. I can't wait for the next one.
I eagerly await everything Tegan Maher writes. Her characters and world building makes me want to hear more about the people and places she writes about, while still wrapping up each murder mystery and not leaving any cliffhangers.
I love this author's style of writing - it's very down-to-earth and she has such a way with words - very descriptive. Her characters are completely likeable and people who you just want to be friends with in real life! Excellent cozy series that just keeps getting better.
Book Number 14 in the series and I'm still really enjoying it. I honestly think the best thing about these books are the characters. I really love how Tegan has managed to give us a wide variety of fully formed characters, all of the side characters really bring an extra dimension to her books.
I love the cosy mystery vibes and I wasn't sure on the killer till almost the end of the book. My only complaint is I would love a longer book !
Can't wait to read the next book which focuses on Anna Mae's wedding with Noelle as maid of honour.
Well I have officially binge read this series. Now I will slowly suffer until the next one! But seriously, this is a really cute series. It'll make you laugh out loud and even shed a few tears....mostly happy of course.
A witches of Keyhole Lake.: Murder in the Mountains
Another great read by this author. I love her different set. The characters and storylines are so darn good. Any reader who understands the south characteristic will enjoy.
As the maid of honor for Anna Mae, Noe is stressed to the max. When an opportunity arose for her and Hunter to have a few days away alone they jumped at it, only to find a body on their first day.
My only complaint was it ended! Till the next one that is. This series is how I found Tegan Maher's books. You can't read just one, before you know it you've read them all.
Started the. Series a little over a week ago, I just finished book 14. It's been one after another and I'm not stopping yet. Great characters, some funny so.e cantankerous, others sweet , and a few are real bitches. Fun read
I love this series. However, there are so many misspelled words and wrong punctuation that the mistakes were very distracting to me. I am disappointed that it wasn't proofed. I hope the next one doesn't have the same issues.
I really enjoyed this series when I started reading it. Now I'm just annoyed. There are so many errors, such as incorrect word choice, that it reads like voice-to-text with poor autocorrect. It is a novella, not a fully developed story. I'm saying goodbye to Keyhole Lake.
When Noelle and Hunter are finally able to take a few days to relax in a cabin, they get the 4wheelers ready to have fun, and then bam, everything stops as Noelle finds a dead body Less than 24 hrs on vacation and their back at it again
