"This isn't an advice book, it's a Huh, I never thought of it that way book." Do any of these statements feel true for you? If you checked any of these boxes, then this book is for you. Complete with case studies and exercises, An Authentic Human's Guide to Finding Meaningful Work is here to help you find your own unique path forward. Since no one else has the same upbringing, values, experience, talents, hopes, and dreams, this guide won't tell you what you "should" do, but instead encourage you to look at your options deeply and differently. We can all find work that feeds not just our bodies but our souls-and that includes you. This book will help open your mind to new strategies and possibilities.
I definitely found this book helpful! I loved how it was directed towards the younger generations and was not written in a “you have to do this” way. The author is also great at suggesting you keep the advice that works for you and drop the rest, which was refreshing to read in a “self help” book. This is a good book to read at any point in your career, whether you’re just starting out, in a job you love, have no clue what you want, etc. I recommend this to anyone who wants a job they love and is interested in knowing how others achieved finding that!
This is such a unique and needed book for milennials (and perhaps Gen Z) who are struggling to find their place in the job market. This book helped me develop confidence to be honest with myself about my desire for meaningful work. I have recently sent in my letter of resignation with my current employer and I am on to seek out a new job more thoughtfully than before with the help of Mourey's advice.
I think this book is great because it could have only been written by a handful of people who have the distinctive experience Mourey has, managing her daughter's online career. This helps her to bridge the gap between what "boomer" employers are looking for and what the younger generation wants when looking for a job. Highly recommend to those just entering the workforce or those who feel somewhat lost in their current position.
An Authentic Human’s Guide to Meaningful Work is perfect for anyone in their early career, a transitional place in their work journey, or looking to change to a path more meaningful to them.
Mourey provides helpful information and practical strategies for success in various aspects of one’s work journey, traditional or otherwise. I found the exercises at the end of each chapter extremely helpful for fostering structured self reflection on myself and my career goals.
Mourey’s passions and experience, which she discusses throughout the book, make her particularly qualified to discuss the variety of topics within it. It is also clear that she took time to connect with GenZ and Millennials in order to understand their experiences and values, and the case studies offer further insight into work paths and possibilities of the younger generations.
This is a great book to keep on-hand. Since reading it, I have revisited certain chapters whenever they become especially pertinent to my life, like when starting my first job out of college.
Ultimately, Mourey’s experience and compassionate yet tell-it-like-it-is nature make the book both a valuable tool and pleasant read.
Knowing that this author is the mother of YouTuber famed, Jenna Marbles… I knew this book would be great . To have created such a genius, she’d have to be Good, right ? Well, let me say that I was not disappointed . Must read for all ages.. looking forward to reading her other writings :)
As someone in a career transition, this book was a great companion. It reminded me to step back and assess my values and strengths. I also appreciate that the author emphasizes that this is not “one size fits all”. I find some career-oriented books try to force you into a mold. With that mindset, I was able to take a lot from this book, even though I didn’t take everything.
Nice read. Some gems for everyone but very much aimed and focal on millennials and gen z. Not necessarily for old millennials - at least that's how me and my fellow millennial fiancé felt but would recommend to my teenager or anyone who is entering the work force.
