Beautiful Book. This book has some of the most captivating photos. I love the way it is sectioned out . Not only can this be a decor item for your table or shelf but pretty useful as well.
It had a good selection of plants. The illustrations and pictures were great but it does not mean that I'll go foraging anytime soon. The book lets you know parts of a plant that could be toxic. There are sections on how to do the following with herbal plants: when to collect how to collect how to preserve how to prepare - infusion, decoction, maceration, poultice, douche, tincture, etc. The healing and killing properties of the plants are also touched upon. As a fan of whodunnit books, I can relate to the "killing properties" of the plants. There is also a good glossary of botanical terms at the end of the book.
A couple of shockers: The absence of Calendula plant. The combination of two plants (Shepherd's purse + Mugwort) to relive menstrual pain during puberty and "the menopause" as the book termed it. The one thing that is absent during menopause is menstruation.
Comprehensive book covering a good amount of common plants. I found the photos quite helpful with the identification of certain plants. It doesn’t go much into detail regarding the uses but works as a nice introduction for those with interest in herbology.
Gorgeous book that I borrowed from my local library, but since it's published in the UK, so many of the plants aren't really found in Canada. As a result it wasn't very useful to me.
