Elle Three years ago everything changed in an instant. I was taken from my home, my family, my friends. I came back to Black Hallows for one reason and one reason only, Revenge. I just have to remember that everytime I lock eyes with Marcus Riviera. My name is Elle King and it's time the Elite of this town paid for their crimes and make no mistake they will pay in blood.
Marcus Three years ago I lost everything, my home, my father, my best friend. I went from a North Side Prince to a South Side King. I changed my world to get revenge for my father but then the girl I hate walks back into this town like she never left. Elle King is the reason my father is dead. But there's a fine line between hate and love and I don’t remember which side I fall on anymore.
We can’t be the Elle and Marcus we once were, everythings changed.
The town of Black Hallows is painted in blood and tainted in secrets. The North Side and South Side are about to be at war and it’s time to pick a side.
So many secrets and lies from the start. Gripping story from the very start. This book consumed me and I couldn't put it down until I read the very last sentence.
Elle King, wow. What she went through in the beginning of the book.. That was beyond heartbreaking, but she rose from it and became a strong, independent and fierce young lady. After 3 years of being away from her hometown of Black Hallows, she has returned. Returned for revenge and to spill blood. No one is safe from her wrath, deserving or not. If you aren't on her side, then you're an enemy.
Marcus Riviera was her best friend, her whole world... until her perfect world was shattered one horrible night. She left him without so much as a goodbye. He doesn't know the circumstances as to why she left and has no idea what brought her back home - home to him? He is the King of this school and she will find there can only be one ruling King. The hate he feels for her is alive and strong. If only he knew.. Their words and actions towards each other are eventually going to break hearts. Once the truth comes out, there will be hope for redemption? Can they ever be friends again, let alone more? They were destined to have it all, but is it too late?
This was a thrilling and intense ride! That cliffhanger... gahhhh!
Review: Honestly, I thought this would be similar to the Mindf*ck Series but it's not. What the heroine went through was very sad and horrible but I did not get the gratification of revenge in this story. It felt like a lot of cliche high school drama and it did not meet my expectations. I knew this story was NOT SAFE but I did not really care for the romance aspect of it, just wanted to read about a kickass heroine, who actually can kick butt and is not just all talk. There is a cliffhanger and I will read book 2.
Edit Nevermind, this book is not even close to the Mindf*ck Series, the heroine is not self reliant like I prefer and dramatic AF.
This sounds similar to the Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby and I was craving for something like this so looking forward to the series :)
A dark and twisty tale, this book grabbed my attention from the first page. A strong and determined heroine seeks revenge for the wrongs done to her by those she held in trust. There were secrets, mystery, and intense emotion in this moving story. Who doesn't love a heroine who can hold her own with natural vulnerability? What about a gruff, jealous alpha male who struggles to control his want and feelings for his lady love?
Great character personalities in Marcus "River" and Elle, pretty boy Jace, Superman Linc, and protective Asher. The chemistry between River and Elle was a smoky build, which I hope comes to fruition in the next book. Some sexy touching and passionate kisses, but unfortunately, this was a clean romance. Also a bit of faltering after some big reveals becoming a somewhat slower read after the explosiveness with which its started.
Catching storyline balancing intrigue, affection, loyalty, and the dark gritty crime world. First book by this author. Looking forward what book 2 has to offer.
The story takes you straight into the horrendous night when Elle's world was torn apart & from that moment on, I felt tense the whole time! Just permanently worried about what was going to happen to her! 🤣
Elle may be strong three years later; but what happened left its mark internally, as well as externally.
When you're first introduced to the two guys that form the MMC's (Marcus') family, I wondered for a moment, if we were stepping into RH territory, & although that's fine, I'm glad that didn't happen, because that's not what Elle needs in her life.
She is surrounded by men but they all seem to help to fulfil the bits of her that were lost & broken; family, friendship, loyalty, protection, & when she's ready... love & lust.
I liked the fact that although Elle is seriously tough & is seeking revenge, the fact that she has other matters that need her attention aren't overlooked & that makes her human & relatable.
Although the concept isn't brand new, it was done so well & there was a surprise that I certainly didn't see coming!
There is lots of chemistry & a tiny bit of actual heat, but it's a totally appropriate level, considering what she has been through.
@authorgnwright always refers to the authors that she reviews as Queens & she certainly deserves that title! 😘👑
A great start to what I'm sure will be a great series! Now, bring on book 2!!!
Revival of a King is a wicked and twisted tale that will suck you in from the first page! Elle King is out for revenge after the horrible things that happened to her and watching her is absolutely captivating. She's a total badass and I loved seeing her strength and how the people in her life helped her rediscover parts of herself burned away by the traumatic experience she went through. G. N. Wright has woven a completely addictive tale with a fantastic cast of characters! I can't wait for more of this and to see what G. N. Wright has in store for us next!
So I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this and thank you so much for it!
So right now I can't think of ways to describe this book apart from incredible. Here is a list of my thoughts when I went through this book;
What going on? Oh My god no! How did this happen? Yes! You go girl! Wait. What?! Nope,no,no this is not happening **heart breaks**(This happened alot) Just tell him already! What the hell does he think he's doing?! Wait for it... Yup here it is... *heart breaks for River** NO YOU DONT UNDERSTAND! Why has this ended like this. **glares angrily at book**
I was hooked on this book from page 1. I honestly didn't put it down until it was finished.
I love a badass female character and with her so protective of her heart. I feel like I can really relate to her.
Marcus AKA River. Man I love him, my heart broke for him a thousand times over in this book. Then he found out one of Elles secrets and totally misunderstood it.. okay so I would do the same in his position so I cant be mad at him. But I want to be, I really do.
Then the book just ending like that!! I couldn't believe it but then again I am dying to read the next book. I am praying beyond praying Elle let's him in fully and Marcus is willing to hear it and open his mind to other possibilities. I just need them together already!
I'll most likely be posting a much better review over on my bookstagram (Moonlit.books) when I'm over the shock of the ending.
Hold onto your hats! That was one of the best books I have ever read. It has everything. I mean everything you want out of an excellent and exciting book! It had twists, it had turns, it had ups and wow did it have downs! What an exciting rollercoaster ride that book just took me on. I should be fast asleep in bed and I couldn’t put this book down. I kept saying to myself, “just five more minutes,” I needed to consume every word!
G.N. Wright, where have you been all my life! I loved your writing so much. It grabbed my attention from page one. Every time I tried to figure the storyline, nope you went a wayyy better way! This book needs to be read over and over! I devoured this book. Five stars is not enough for this book, you are on another level how awesome this book is.
This cast of characters in this book are all my favorites. I would read and learn more about Zach, loved him, Jace who cracked me up so much, loved him. Lincoln, oh Superman, you are extra special, loved your big heart so much (I hope you get your own book or storyline of your own). I love Linc so much. Asher loved him, what a hero. River, hello beautiful fine as all heck River, you made my heart flutter and race! And Elle the phenomenal, fierce and extra sassy, Elle! She doesn’t take nothing from nobody!
Read this book! It will keep you on the edge of your seat, I mean that ending, holy wow!!! Must read!!!
Oh my god! This book wrecked me in the best possible ways. Revival of a king is a great first book in a new seirse by GN Wright.
Elle is our kick ass FMC and I absolutely love her. The character detail that the author added to the book was fabulous. Not only did she deliver an amazing story that left me dying for book 2, now I also want the storys on several other characters that you meet and end up loving in the book! The story line was well developed and fast paced. And the chemistry between the main characters was phenomenal 🔥🔥🔥
Revival of a king is a dark romance that has triggers in it. It has adult content and language suitable for ages 18+ I would definitely recommend reading!
Revival of a King is GN Wright's debut novel. As may happen with debuts, it does need editing. But - and this is a big but - there are two types of books for me: ones that need editing and constantly throw me out of the story, changing me from reader to proofreader...and those that may need editing, but the story is so good that you can look past it.
This book was definitely the second kind. I was hooked immediately, the prologue drew me in and didn't let go until the end. It has a lot of darkness, but also a few laughs, and it doesn't lack in feelings.
Would be a definite 5 star book if the mistakes were fixed. Can't wait to start the next book!
So, I read this book the day it came out and didn't write a review right after because I wanted to re-read this book a couple of times to fully grasp the concept of Elle King and Marcus Rivera's story. And boy did I grasp it! ((**It was SO good I bought the book after the 5th (or 6th) time reading it!!**))
When Elle was 14 yrs., she became a victim and went through something so traumatic no one should ever go through and was ripped away from her child best friend and love of her life. 3 yrs later, Elle is back in town and set on revenge for the people that hurt and ruined her life. But Marcus isn't the sweet protective friend he used to be. He blames Elle for the death of his father. He hates her even when Elle is trying to protect him. Under all that "hate" though, Marcus (and Elle) still feels an undeniable connection and love that keeps pulling them back together.
Elle, even though it kills her to do so, keeps pulling away from Marcus so that she can get her revenge without getting him involved. I love how even though Elle puts on a give-no-shits attitude she can still be sweet and innocent at the same time. She is everything I love in a fmc. Sassy, badass, strong, and determined to keep the people she loves safe. I love Marcus's alpha-male-attitude and his protectiveness.
I also adored the other charters! Jace and his flirtines but brotherly love towards Elle, Linc with his protective and quite nature, Zack, and last but not least Asher. I am honestly wicked jealous of his and Elle's relationship. I love how he puts on this psychotic personality in front of everyone and softens towards Elle. He also has the same need for revenge as Elle, so they'll "Always"be in it together.
Although I usually prefer reverse harem books and generally don't read YA anymore, I absolutely LOVED this books! Book 2 cannot come soon enough! I can't wait to see what happens after the huge cliffhanger the author gave!
This is an MF Contemporary read...I actually had to come back to Amazon and check this when I was a bit into the book as thought I misread and it's RH, it is indeed MF
I know I've seen reviews before where people roll their eyes about what these 18 year olds can do in these books but let's be clear it is fiction you need to be able to sit back and enjoy the ride, I did and I absolutely loved it.
This book took a couple of unexpected turns for me, I'm normally so good at guessing what's going to happen so I was shocked!
Ells, oh my god she is so amazing she has been written and fleshed out so well as a character you get to see so many sides to her, her strength, her vulnerability, her sense of humour, her love.
The guys, yes they are not all hers but they are all well written and have their own individual personalities which makes them stand out and be memorable and I can't wait to find out more about them.
I love the dark side to this story but the more I read the more I love the undertones of family and it's clear that they are building that as a unit and I can't wait to see where this story goes.
I am so glad book two is out, cos that ending! Diving right into it now
The sentence structuring is…not great. There’s an irritating lack of contractions making conversation and inner dialogue read stilted and choppy. Descriptions of characters are generically listed off and there’s missing punctuation. I’m not sure whether this book went through beta readers but if it did, they didn’t do their job. This book needs a content editor and a line editor to go through and really pick it apart and put it back together again. I didn’t fall in love with any of the characters, they just felt really flat. Good premise, missed the mark.
*Am pissed. I just wrote a wholeass review for it to not be saved. So am gonna keep this one short.
I liked the story, it was good & it definitely reversed the roles. We had our fmc, whose innocence was taken too young and she is now back & ready to make people pay. Keeping secrets from the mmc to protect him. On the other hand, we have our mmc, who has no clue what is going on and it's in the unknown.
Elle was a badass but still vulnerable. Ofc, you can't got through what she went through without it leaving its marks. Still trying to get her revenge but also trying to keep the people she loves safe. Tall order
Then we has our mmc, Marcus, who I didn't like. It was bc of him that I took a star off my rating. Marcus' character just seemed force to me. I was reading about his intensity & alpha personality but I just couldn't feel it. His character was just off for me. And his possessiveness made me cringe and that is saying something bc I love me a possessive man. I disliked him even more in the last chapter, whiny little shit.
However, I absolutely loveee the side characters. Zack, Jace, and Lincoln but my favorite was Asher. With him, I could actually feel his intensity & darkness. His protectiveness over Elle was everything. Everyone needs a bff like him. I like all way better than Marcus. I will be all here for it if they get their own books.
I was lucky enough to receive an arc of this amazing story.
Like where do I begin here with this review?
Honestly? I inhaled this story from start to finish and I felt like I was on my own personal emotional rollercoaster that didn't want to come off.
First of all I have to say Elle is a super kickass female character. Like wow is she strong! I absolutely love her, what she has had to deal with and still dealing with I have a lot of respect and admiration for her.
And then there's Marcus aka River. Omg River is broken and perfect at the same time. I just love him so much. He loves Elle even when he thinks he doesn't he loves her.
But OMFG that ending. Like what? Why? I NEED MORE NOW!!! I NEED TO KNOW!
In conclusion I loved this story and I can't wait for the next installment.
This is my 1st book read by this author and I am very happy I found it. This book hit all the points I look for in a book. Strong MFC, MMC that is a brooding a** but obsessed with the MFC that is his old childhood love that has resurfaced into his life without warning. There is hidden secrets that come out along the way & well written support male characters that you fall in love with along the way as well. Focuses on the story line and not just the spice. Plenty of humor/banter (which I love). There is 3 books total in the series of this story line and I have just downloaded book 2 to continue to see what will happen. The big one is REVENGE, I love a book that has a main point of revenge in it and see that satisfying outcome for those characters!!
I'm not usually one for this genre of book, but it had me hooked from the prologue!!
It's hard to believe that this is a debut author, because they know exactly what they're doing to not only draw you in, but keep you hooked the whole way through.
The writing is perfectly paced, and every time you're coming to grips with one huge revelation, another big shock will hit you before you even know it. The ending also sets up the sequel perfectly.
If you like teen romance, drama, revenge, and kick-ass ladies who take no crap, then this is the series for you.
This bully, childhood friends to enemies to lovers high school romance was SHOCKING to say the least. Like what in the riverdale, SVU is this?! And I mean this in the most respectful, amazing way 😍😂
It’s less than 250 pages so I went by this quickly and of course that cliffhanger, so I knew book two also had to be a cliffhanger because this is a trio of Marcus and Elle’s story
Marcus and Elle have been the best of since they were children until that day in the woods.. Elle had a traumatic experience and has caused her to leave Black Hallows.
Three years later, she’s back in high school and ready fir revenge. I adored Marcus and his love for Elle even when he hated her and Elle was such a badass heroine, a survivor 😩🤌🏼
Trigger Warnings: SA survivor, sex and human trafficking
4/5⭐️
Because that cliffhanger and the concept of them being in high school just killing people? ! WHHAAATTT
ZERO SPICE, there are mood scenes but they aren’t all the way and short 👀
This book is just amazing. From the beginning to the end, you will be sucked in and will not be able to stop. Elle is one character that you not only want to fight for, you want to wrap up and give her a hug. When you meet the rebels, you are drawn to each of them and what to know more. I feel for each and everyone of them too, and let's not forget about Ash... The storyline is so well written that you will be sucked in, and before you know it, you have read the whole damn thing and are going what there's no more pages? But I need more how could you leave me hanging like that? I can't wait to see what is in-store for all of these people
First off, I just love the way GN writes and her liberal use of the f word. It's real and gritty and punchy and pacy, which I love. I adored Elle straight away and found the world building of Black Hallows authentic and intriguing - one of those places that you end up picturing in your head, then unable to shake for days. I loved the chemistry between Elle and Marcus - it was super hot and angsty. I would like to see more of that! This is a fantastic debut from a talented writer - I'm looking forward to reading more by GN Wright
It was ok. Had some weird stuff that didn't make sense to me. It was pushing too much to have all the good stuff with a badass h but was ruined with all the forced elements.
The prologue of this story made me cry a lot and last scene made me wanting more, that's how I like to describe this amazing, heartbreaking and revengeful story.🖤
This is the story of Elle who survived her heartbreaking past and after 3years returned as a strong and fiery girl. She is ready to make those people pay who are responsible for her pain. But their is a person who weakens her,her childhood best friend Marcus, who blames her for his father's death. He hates her and she's trying to protect him.But behind all this hate, their is a deep love and connection which always pulls them toward each other but Elle have to maintain her distance from him ,so that she'll take her revenge without involving him and that's when the ride of emotions, love and revenge begins.🔪
I absolutely adored the character of Elle, her strong determined personality, her need for revenge, her strength and sassy badass nature, everything about her was just perfect and that's what I love to any female lead should be like. And Marcus, cold, vulnerable and broken guy ,I admired him a lot,his unconditional love for Elle, his alpha male attitude, his ptotectiveness, just amazing.💖
Childhood love is always unbreakable, that's what I experienced in this story.Elle and Marcus always loved and cared for each other since childhood, and their love only grew stronger and deeper throughout the time.I also loved other characters Jace,Linc ,Zack and especially Ash.I loved him a lot,his friendly love for Elle, his protectiveness and need for revenge, all was super mesmerizing.💖
Their is also a little surprise in this story which was absolutely unexpected and shocking!!I really enjoyed this story a lot and loved everything about it.😍
I recently discovered author GN Wright and I freaking love her books. The Puck Secret is one of my top reads ever and then I read The Puck Decoy where I met Lincoln, secondary character, that had me giddy. I needed more of him. Hence my dive into the world of Black Hallows. This ends on a huge cliffhanger but fortunately the series is complete because I’m instantly diving into book two. Elle King had to grow up too fast when she succumbs to the darker side of the elite. Now back three years later, she’s determined to get revenge and protect her best friend Marcus in the process. But there are so many secrets and lies. No one knows who to trust or who to believe. Every character in this book is awesome! Elle is badass and Marcus is the dark, moody, broken boy that pushes her at every turn. But she’s not the same kid she was and Marcus just may not like this new version of her. But as secrets get uncovered and friendships begin to form, the secrets of the past might just be too much for them to handle. Asher, Lincoln, Jace, Marcus, Elle, Z - seriously, every character brings something to the story. *this is not a RH! Marcus is way too possessive for that. lol But Elle does form friendships with each of the guys and they are determined to protect her at all costs. Highly recommend!!
I was generously provided an ARC of G.N Wright's debut book, and i want to thank her for this great opportunity to read her amazing story that completely blew me away! Even though the characters are still in high school, this is not your typical high school romance. It is dark, and i caught myself worrying throughout the book about the main character Elle! The book starts with a 14-year-old Elle running away from her town after becoming a victim of one of the worst things that can happen to a person. Leaving her town, she left behind the life she knew, her youth, her innocence, and her heart. When she returns three years later, she comes back to seek revenge, but the heart cannot go by the rules. So, Elle's plans get slightly diverted! The chemistry between Elle and Marcus was OFF THE CHARTS! Their moments together were fire and ice, blending together to create magic. It was magic when it was hate, and it was magic when it wasn't. There was suspense, angst, chemistry and darkness, but above all, a King who vowed to dethrone all who stole her life from her, and to fiercefully protect her loves! There are many unanswered questions... Will she act on her plans? How will Marcus react now that some of Elle's truths are out? Book 2 cannot come soon enough, i can't wait to find out the aftermath of the cliffhanger.
My overall hopes: * For Elle to lower her walls a little bit. Nobody deserves what happened to her, so i am rooting for her happiness. But i would like to see her opening up slightly more to Marcus and not always being so defensive . * For Marcus to continue supporting his King, and showing me that i was right to fall for him (😂❤️😍) * For all the friendships and brotherhoods to really be real. I hate it when in books there is a twist and the "friend" ends up betraying the characters in the story. The way Marcus, Jace, and Linc were so devoted to one another and to Elle (as well as how close Elle was to Ash and Zack) really warmed my heart and i would hate it if we end up with any of them being traitors.
Revival of a King is the first part of Elle and Marcus’ story. I’m shocked at the way things went about but I’m more curious to see how their story carries, especially with an ending like that.
Elle King is a strong character that I loved seeing her development. She really took the hardest parts of her past and became stronger. It wasn’t a change in character but more of a change in the way that she came back for what will make her heal. I really enjoyed her pov in this book and the reasons as to why she makes these certain decisions in her life.
I loved Elle and Marcus’ past and how it plays out to the present. We see the hurt between them masked with anger and hatred, but above all the love. I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops and how much pain will be placed between them. Another thing that I liked was the side characters and the big role they play in the main character’s life. It shows how important they are and adds a mystery as to what they can bring to the story.
This book really surprised me in a great way. It didn’t give too little to expect more, and it didn’t give too much resulting in being anxious to know more. It was a good way to start the series and a great way to present a relationship of two characters filled with secrets, pain, flaws, and above all deep love.
What a story!! Literally from the first page this story throws you straight into the darkness that the MFC Elle has endured, I was on the edge of my seat and I hadn't even finished the first chapter....talk about being hooked....I just couldn't take a breath!!! This whole story was just pure brilliance! It had the sassy, hot tempered and strong female lead character that I just love. We also had the determined alpha Marcus....together their chemistry was off the charts and you could just sense the deep connection between them. If that's no enough you also have some seriously funny, broody and protective guys supporting Elle and Marcus...you can't help but love all these characters! I'm not going to lie though....This story has some dark themes and as a reader you are constantly being given little bombs of info that you have to process....it's been a long time since I've read a story with so much angst and suspense and something tells me the second book is going to be a lot darker....and I can't wait!!!
Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
