Devil's Cartel MC #2

Burning Daylight

Rate this book
How do you save your son from the vile grips of a bad man?

You find one that's more evil.

The fight against my ex-husband cost me everything – my job, my house, and the only family I had left. With him, I experienced the worst of life, so chasing the Devil’s Cartel’s President down a darkened highway in the middle of the night didn’t seem so scary.

On the surface, Damon Judge was cold, calculative, and cruel. But underneath his tough exterior, his leathers, and his ink, he was charming and passionate. He was a father who’d already faced my greatest fear...and lost.

I knew better than to exchange one evil for another, but Judge was my last resort. I needed him to save me from suffering the same fate he did.

And I wasn’t taking ‘no’ for an answer.

I am being a little harsh on the rating here.
Don’t worry I will explain why. 🌺

I want to stress that Madi can write. Really well actually.

But her MC?
It just seemed so off.
A bit of a mess actually.

A president not knowing a lot of the members?
A president thinking that his sister chapters wouldn’t help his club?
A non-loyal “loyalty”. And by that I mean the constant “challenges” of the hierarchy with the Prez repeatedly thinking he could have his members killed for given him shit.
They didn’t respect him. He didn’t seem to respect his members in a sense either, even his best buddy got “death threats”. (They did not seem like a joke).

There was just this lack of honest brotherhood. And that’s one of the reasons why I love MC.
Because of the deep loyalty.

Another issue was Yasmine. You can not tell me she was an ex detective when her character was so weak.
She did “grow” a bit towards the end, but at that point it was too late for.

I don’t hate the plot. I just think we missed a lot in terms of preparations, of leads and updates, and made the plot a bit superficial.

Burning Daylight is book two in the Devil's Cartel MC series and is told in dual POV's. I am loving this series so far! I devoured the first book and have been dying for more ever since. This is Judge's story. Judge is the President of the Devil's Cartel Motorcycle Club and I knew from the glimpses we get of him in book one that his character and his story were going to be intense. I thought I was ready for Damon Judge...I was wrong! Skyla Madi exceeded all my expectations!
I was hooked from the very first page where we meet Yasmine who is desperate for Judge's help to rescue her son from his criminal father.
"How do you save your son from the vile grips of a bad man? You find one that's more evil."
Sparks fly during their first encounter and the heat between them rises with every interaction.
Yasmine Garcia is sexy, feisty, and tough as nails. After suffering horribly at the hands of her ex-husband she has closed herself off and is determined to keep the sexy biker at arm's length. As they grow closer while working together to find her son, she starts to see the parts of himself he keeps hidden and it becomes harder and harder to fight her feelings.
"Somebody f*cking catch me because I’m in danger of falling."
Damon Judge has a heartbreaking past of his own and has sworn off love and relationships. He is cocky and arrogant and sexy as hell, but he has a caring, nurturing side that starts to show as his feelings for Yasmine grow. Slowly but surely the walls he's built around his heart start to crumble and we see this side of him more and more.
"Yasmine Garcia was the most emotional woman I’d ever met. And I liked it. Every tear she shed chipped ice off my heart and pulled me further out of the emotionless tar pit my ex kicked me into."
I lusted after Judge the sexy as hell Alpha, but I fell hard for Damon the protector with the gentle heart. He was everything I hoped he'd be and so much more!
Burning Daylight is a jaw dropping action packed read full of everything I love in a MC Romance. Every page sucked me in further keeping me on the edge of my seat with heart pounding anticipation. Judge and Yasmine's story is a raw and emotional journey of heartbreak and healing and I will never forget it.
If you read Burning Road book one and fell in love with Creed and Izzy as I did you'll be happy to know they play a big part in Judge and Yasmine's story and they are hotter than ever so you do not want to miss this!
Skyla Madi has created a dark and gritty new MC world of over the top Alphas and sassy Heroines that are sinfully sexy and completely addicting. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!

I had to buy this after reading Burning Road. I just wanted more!!

Judge is the President of the Devil's Cartel MC. This MC is a group of dangerous, raw and gritty men. Yes they have killed but also have done charity drives for the community. Judge has had his own heartache, he lost his daughter as a result of domestic violence and it has left a hole in his heart.

Enter, Yasmine. She is seeking out help to get her son from her ex, who despises the child. She wants Judge to help her. Judge turns her down flat but that doesn't stop her. Seems as if Yasmine has secrets though and he has just uncovered the first layer. He decides to help. Of course there is the attraction between them...

Will Judge, the MC and Yasmine get her son back with his mother and away from a father who hates him? Will she be the one who fills the hole in Judge's heart?

Jasmine had been married to a Cartel Kingpin. The man was absolutely vile to Yasmine and their son. Yasmine honestly loved him when they married but then he found out her secret and there was no forgiveness. When Judge learns it, what will happen?

Judge & Yasmine's relationship deepens as they plan to retrieve her son. As far as Yasmine is concerned, she and her son will be gone once he is rescued regardless of her feelings for Judge. When the time comes and they go for her son it will be an experience that changes all their lives...

While I really liked the book, I feel like a few questions didn't get answered. It's hard to explain without giving spoilers! As a mother there were parts that really tore my heart out and I actually cried.

Would I read more about the DCMC? Yes, I think I would...

I must admit I was a little apprehensive to read this book. I was worried that I would feel deflated as I didn't think this book would be as good as the Burning Road. But there was no need to worry this book was brilliant. Judge and Minnie can stand toe to toe with Creed and Blondie and may even win.

The bones of this story is heartbreaking, I cried many tears reading this and it wasn't only tears for Minnie but I cried for Judge too. I was angry and I wanted to hurt Elias for all that he did. And for the pain that was to come. But I cried the most for Nicolás. I can't tell you why or what happens. As that's just rude and unfair. Just know that its heartbreaking.

The line in this book that made me cry the hardest came from Judge. "We have children, A perfect daughter and a perfect son. We don't need more." You'll understand this more when you read it. Just know this made me fall head over hills in love with this, hard, brash, stone cold killer.

This book is a total recommend from me the Burning Road was one of my favourite book's of last year. And hell this book is one of my favourites from this year. Skyla  Madi you blew me away.

I'm rating this book a 2.5. Book was okay, i really liked the female protagonist, other characters were barely developed and the author should have put a trigger warning for the sensitive subject she talked about and even more because i do not think she handled those subjects well, it felt more like something add just to keep the plot moving, i was expecting from the end but was really disappointed about how unrealistic and rushed the end was and frankly didn't find the necessity for the decision the author took at the end, it didn't do nothing for character growth, it didn't do nothing for the plot, in conclusion it didn't do nothing for the end, i cried at the end more out of frustration and honestly, child abuse, ableism, domestic abuse etc.. should never be theme that you just brush out to move a plot, that feels like romanticizing those heavy subjects and i'm so mad that the author ending justification was "love cures it all", i probably will never read another book by this author if this is her style. Hope the female protagonist got therapy at least

*I received this Arc in exchange of my honest review.

I read it in one day. So you can imagine where I’m going with this. I loved it! ❤️
These guys are just great. They’re these badass bikers that can kill you with no regret whatsoever if you cross them. And they are these caring and loving men at the same time ... and you can’t resist them.
Although I like Creed more (don’t ask me why, I just do ☺️), Damon was just as I expected him to be. His story was as emotional as you can guess. We see glimpses of his past as a father and it’s sad. At some point you will cry. Big fat tears. I did. I’m not telling you when or why, but you will.

The ending though was a little bit strange. Like it just ended, not giving us a glimpse into their future. I would of loved to see o couple of pages with them several months later.

But I’m sure we will see them again in the future books.

Modo has my attention now. I have this feeling that he’s next. And his story would be really interesting. He has some dark things buried deep down. He’s going to need a very special lady 😉

This is the second in the Devils Cartel MC Series and I would advise to read Burning Road first. While they could be read as standalone you get a better feel for the characters if you read them in order.
Loved Camilla, loved her strength and determination, loved the grit. I would have liked to have seen more, more of her past, more of what shaped her and more of what drove her. Not just love. Although that's the drive at the end, its not at the start.
Judge was as mercurial and grumpy as I expected him to be. And yet there is a great big heart and a really big soft side underneath that exterior. For me, this was lacking some of the MC elements.
Everyone was there and everyone followed order - most of the time. But there wasn't anything about their family ties and going to war together, everything they've done to pull themselves out of the bad they used to do.
The story was good, the characters were good it was an easy read that kept the pages turning.

It is a very intense book with very dark subjects. Writing style is okey. There is some disconnection through the story, between characters and timetable. Sometimes the dual pov is very boring, telling the same scene. The characters are broken beyond healing, so I could not understand how they heal themselves with falling in love after the tragedy they endured. I wish it would have been same with the real life. The ending is a little bit rushed without any depth. There are very sensitive triggering subjects like domestic violence, child abuse, involuntary histerectomy, death of a child. Readers should have been warned before.

Again this author really knows how to WOW her readers with a book that sets your emotions on high and keeps the throttle open the whole way through!! There were tears, laughter and some really dark moments in this story... Minnie and Judge, both had a darkness in them that made them hard, but in each other they saw a likeness that drew them together. A powerful story of the heartbreak of lose and finding an anchor albeit a dark and dangerous one to pull you through. I can't recommend this series highly enough.. each book so far has blown me away as a reader. Looking forward to much more from this talented lady!

***SPOILER***

SPOILER

I thought the story was going good, a mother will do anything to save her children...BUT when Nicolas is killed by a stray bullet during his rescue it completely deflated me as a mother and fan of this series...there IS such a thing as too much heartbreak in a book, first Judge looses his daughter, then Yasmine looses his son? This ruined the story for me, as I wouldn't be able to live my life and love after so much loss...so the characters and their plot got ruined for me.

That ending..

I actually really liked this book and most of the characters (witht the exception of blondie she was annoying). The only reason I'm giving it three stars
Is the ending. It totally ruined the book for me. After what tragically happend I feel like the book was wrapped up and that's it. It just didn't do it for me.

Obliterated me!

I knew...I just knew that this was a phenomenal story that’d bring me to tears, spread my soul and scatter my ashes to the hills.

This story did not disappoint.
Not even once!

I mean hello... even had a scene most ladies would blush at, and guys would drool for.

Absolutely broke me.
I’m going to need another box of tissues and a hug please

loved this book, ending threw me for a loop.

Omg my heart broke for Yasmine when she finally got to see her son after god knows how long, he ends up passing from a gun shot would. Was not expecting that at all for the ending. But i’m glad her and Judge fell in love. They both lost a child which is heartbreaking and found comfort in each other.

Enjoyed Very Much

This book was wonderful just like the first one in the series. It was angsty and heart hurting and had just about the right amount of action. I am excited for book three

Another insightful look at MCs and the gritty reality of 1-percenters. Intrigue, steamy sex, romance, and gorgeous Alpha males... perfect! No cliffhanger.

At the end of the book there's mention of a third installment, "Burning Revenge", but I searched for it without success.

Book 2 in Devil's Cartel did not disappoint. The MC is just as ruthless as in Book 1. No spoilers here. It is just a great read. Looking forward to book 3.
