The legendary Lufas Maphaahl continues on her journey as new information arises that the sword country Laevateinn has summoned a hero...successfully this time! However, it seems that the devilfolk are also aware of this...?

The hero, Sei, the very hope of humanity, and his party are in danger of getting wiped out by the devilfolk before their adventure has even begun!

But there are plenty more Twelve Heavenly Stars to bring back into the fold, too. Vanaheim, the original home of the heaven-winged, has been taken over by Parthenos the Maiden, and Scorpius the Scorpion has fully allied with the devilfolk! Will the other former members of the Twelve Heavenly Stars come back peacefully? Or are there more unexpected events in store for Lufas?!

After having recognized a fellow player in Dina, Lufas sets out to save the recently summoned hero before continuing her search for the Twelve Heavenly Stars. An unexpected encounter with the Devil's Kings raises a few disturbing questions about Lufas defeat 200 years earlier and the affairs of the world.

Just like previous two volumes, the fights are over the top and ridiculous. Lufas is overpowered and never really physically threatened. The world building contain a few surprises though in that questions are raised about the nature of the world, Lufas' background and why the MC was transported from Japan into Lufas' body. The mystery is intriguing and I am looking forward to getting the answers in the future. I am also pleasantly surprised by the author saying the number of volumes is going to be limited in the afterword. The world still appears a bit simplistic, but there might be a good answer to why.

So, while not perfect, I enjoyed the book and I am looking forward to the next one.

The plot thickens in the grand scheme of things for us the reader but the MC is drip fed just enough to broaden the understanding of their and the Goddess' place in all of this. More gathering of the twelve as the journey has set us up to do. Overall another great addition that offers more of the same. Which if you enjoyed the first two as I did, then it is perfect.

Muddied waters

Well it seems like things are getting more confusing for the mc, at the same time also clearing up? This is starting read like an action mystery which is honestly quite fun.

When Lufas hears the news that a successful hero summoning has occurred, she knows exactly what it means. The Devil King, the real last boss, isn't going to be polite enough to wait for the hero to become strong like a game. And Lufas has her own reasons to want the hero alive.

I think the funniest moment of the series so far is when poor Hero Sei exits his starting town, only to find both of the big bads he's supposed to defeat staring at each other over him. Simply WATCHING their fight is incredibly demoralizing for him.

Sei is great for a few reasons. He's a more typical straightforward hero-type, but he's also free enough of the local prejudices against Lufas to start asking some interesting questions. And he's got a cast of oddballs all his own to try to deal with.

We also get to see Scorpio, the next of the former Twelve Heavenly Stars that has a big grudge against humanity for their work in sealing Lufas. She's targeting Blutgang, the home of the dwarves. It's a good fight, though I liked seeing Karkinos the Crab a lot better. Karkinos is just delightfully odd, and this version of Lufas has no idea how to respond to him.

Overall this series continues to be a lot of fun. Given all the colorful characters, intense action, and interesting worldbuilding, I do hope this eventually gets an anime. I rate this book Recommended.
