I love when my favorite authors give their readers (me) these short stories that feature the secondary characters in main novels of a series.

Ali is a secondary character in Deeper Than Need, and her story was wonderful to read.
She is a strong, smart, loving woman-mother, and friend.
She's loyal and reliable, and wants desperately to finally have her own HEA.

Tate was just...Wow!
Broken, strong, loyal, and has been in limbo for the last 13 years since the disappearance of his mother... until Ali.

Even though this is a short story, the author did a fantastic job of telling a whole story in just 80 pages.

Great read!
Great characters!

3 1/2 stars (rounded down to 3 stars, because I thought Tate's emotional issues were solved too easily - I mean, it was hard to believe that a guy who'd been hanging on a belief for fifteen years would give up on it after one short conversation with a friend)

Thank goodness this was a shorty otherwise I wouldn't be able to handle the angst and Tate's emotional unavailability!

Sexy, sweet and full of steam. Just what I expect from Shiloh Walker! Burn for Me was a little heartbreaking but at the same time a completely heartwarming glimpse inside the life of Tate as he hits a crossroads in his life. One where he has to decide if holding on to his childhood traumas and anger will keep him from the woman he loves and a future he desperately needs with her and her sons. It's a quick read--only about 80 pages--but pretty satisfying.

I really liked both Tate and Ali. The story starts up mid relationship. They've been friends with benefits for a while now but they have an agreement. It's just physical and can't be anything more. Hearts though can't be denied and even though neither has admitted how much they care for the other it's clear as day and something's got to give. They either move forward or need to call it quits.

I really felt for Tate as his world was rocked in more ways than one. By his fear of having a relationship with Ali--and oh his reasoning totally killed me-- and as more than a decades worth of anger and suspicion over his mother's disappearance are challenged and he has to overcome everything he's believed and that may just be wrong. Tate really grows and makes amend for his ways and was good guy under it all. One that may not have been able to admit his love out loud but let it show in other ways. His struggles so tugged at my heart. I could really understand Ali and her frustrations and hopelessness of having more with Tate too though. How hard it would be to be in love with someone and not think they could love you back. The two definitely had some hurdles but oh I liked them together and seeing them get past it all.

Burn for Me is pretty steamy and starts with a bang--literally--since the two are friends with benefits and really enjoy each other. Things move at a nice clip and have a slight suspenseful or mystery feel to them. Tate and Ali had some nice chemistry going and dang I would have loved spending more time with them instead of just getting this quickie glimpse. I am curious to see what will happen with the series and how it'll play out after his sibling's stories are told in a couple novellas prior to the first full length story happening. I'm hoping some of the loose ends--like what really happened to his mom--will be uncovered along the way. This one definitely has me curious.

**Note--I do think this one is way overpriced for length. $2.99 for 80 pages is pretty dang steep. Personally I'd put it on my wishlist and wait until a 99cent price drop.

My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

Single mother of two, Ali Holmes, spends her days working in her family pizzeria and her nights in the arms of her lover. For three years she had been taken whatever he had been willing to share with her, but it simply was no longer enough.

Never the same after the disappearance of his mother fifteen years ago, Tate Bell was consumed with the need to find answers. He still blames his father for the horrible fight that took place right before she left the house that last time. He simply cannot take that risk with Ali, he loves her.

When Ali ends their 'arrangement', it is a harsh wake up call for Tate. The last thing he wants is to lose her. But if he wants to have any chance with her, he will have to find a way to come to terms with the demons from his past......face to face.

*******

Maximum impact in a novella!!

Shiloh Walker draws us into the core of the story, right off the bat. Nothing like getting your feet wet! Without immediately surrounding her characters with a file cabinet of background, Ms. Walker is able to paint us a good impression of personality and feed us sufficient context over time, to properly place each one in the story.

Ali has been biding her time, but is finding that with her two boys, a failed marriage in her past, and her work in the family restaurant - she feels like a "dirty secret" to be kept, a mere 'convenience' to be used and put away again. She deserves more.

Tate has built a lifetime of guilt and anger on the events as experienced by the teenager he once was. But those aren't the worst of his demons, the worst would be fear - fear of that which cannot be controlled. And that is what has him immobilized - until the prospect of losing love is more terrifying than fear itself.

Gorgeous writing...... I just can get lost in Shiloh Walker's style, which flows just beautifully regardless of what she writes. Whether it be an action scene in one of her Blade novels or a love scene in this book... the words chosen inevitably convey just the right mood, the right emotion or attitude. She is as always a pleasure to read.

✨An intense and captivating reality check.✨

BURN FOR ME was unexpectedly just romantic. I know, obviously there’s gotta be the connection between Ali and Tate. And although I’m not usually a fan of the guys that think they are too damaged to be in a relationship (especially when their reasoning is a bit unsubstantial) I couldn’t help but connect with the H/h in this story.

Tate and Ali have always been meant to be. He’s had a crush on her since high school, where she ended up dating someone else and getting knocked up. Now, loser gone and a kid left behind for Ali to raise by herself, Tate sees the opportunity to have Ali all to himself. But only in a non-emotional arrangement. He’s too much like his father and he believes his father killed his mother. A mother who just disappeared one day.

As always with Ms. Walker’s books, the writing conveys all the emotions of the characters, it draws you in and doesn’t let go until you’ve finished. This is the first novella of three stories about the Bell family. They’re introducing the town of Madison, where I’m sure there’s more than meets the eye.

Shiloh Walker can write suspense like very few authors. I can’t wait to see her dive in fully into this series. BURN FOR ME gives us just a taste, a small dipping of toes in the murky waters of Madison, but I can already anticipate that she has much more in store for us and we’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s going in this small town.

I hope that we get to see a little of the suspense that made me love the Ash Trilogy in this series, I can’t wait!

Burn For Me is a brisk, emotional, read. Shiloh Walker introduces readers to her latest contemporary series, Secrets & Shadows, with this novella featuring Tate Bell. I enjoyed the subtle suspenseful undertone that I believe will continue as a story arc throughout the next two novellas – about Tate’s younger sisters - Break For Me (Jensen Bell) and Long For Me (Christina Bell).

Tate Bell was devastated by the mysterious disappearance of his mother fifteen years ago; it has overshadowed his entire life. Although he is written as emotionally unavailable the author allows his intensity to bleed though – creating a conflicted character. Ali completes the story; it is her strength that gives this novella backbone.

I learnt my lesson with the Ash Trilogy. Don't start a series by Shiloh Walker till you have a compete set. The cliff hangers are a b*%#h if you have to wait. Luckily, I don't. :-)

This is the first of 3 prequels (dealing with siblings) of the Secrets and Shadows Novels. We get a glimpse into the town and the people in it, as well as a hint of future couples. Over arching is the disappearance of the siblings mother 15 years earlier. Things are just starting to get interesting as I think clues are about to be revealed. Can't wait to start the next one tomorrow.

I liked the journey that Tate went on through this book, that he was able to let go of the past, reconnect with his family, and grab the best thing that is in his life. I especially loved that Ali called Tate on his crap, forcing him make the changes.

(Wolf Whistle) wow, burn for me is aptly named. Tate loses himself in Ali’s arms almost every night refusing to give her more. His mother has been missing for 15 years, and he blames his father for the disappearance. Ali, is a young mother of two boys, and part owner of a pizza parlor. She wants more from Tate but does he have it to give?

What did I like? This is a sweltering hot read. Tate and Ali have scorching chemistry and a three year relationship that looks like it’s going no where. Ali has enough of watching Tate tear himself apart over the disappearance of his mother.

Would I recommend or buy? This is a prequel to a series, and really well written. I would recommend and probably buy the series. This is one amazing writer.

Thoughts for the author? Loved it... definitely going to check out the rest of this story. This story makes the anthology better. I received a copy of Hot Alpha’s and this is my opinion.

I definitely want to keep reading this series. I really enjoyed this story and got sucked into it and the mystery of Nicole Bell's disappearance 15 years ago. And near the end of the book, after 15 years of learning nothing, there's a hint that something's about to become uncovered, literally. I also really want to see how Ali and Tate's relationship progresses now that he's made the decision to let her in and try to make a life with her and her sons.

Tate Bell has never forgotten the night his mother disappeared. Convinced his father had something to do with it, Tate has spent years trying to find out what happened that fateful night and has locked down emotionally, much to the dismay of Ali Holmes.

Ali and Tate have engaged in a three year no strings affair but the lines have blurred and Ali finds she wants more than a few stolen hours in bed when her kids are asleep. Ali knows Tate has more to offer but his fear that he is as dangerous and will hurt her leaves him unwilling to commit deeper. When Ali demands more than Tate can offer, will he fight for their love or will he walk away for good?

Though a fan of everything Ms. Walker writes, I am bias in my thinking that she absolutely kicks arse in romantic suspense. Not only does Ms. Walker deliver her trademark scorching hot love scenes and dynamic, personable characters, but she shows no matter the story length, she is quite capable of creating a suspense that will keep you perched on the edge till the very end. Fast pacing and a dramatic layered storyline will hold you hostage as the tension builds through the novella.

Burn For Me is a prequel novella to Shiloh Walker’s newest Romance Suspense series, Secrets & Shadows. Three prequels in all will revolve around three siblings trying to discover what happened to their mother and attempt to move beyond their grief and get on with their lives. A full length novel in the series, Deeper In Need, will release June 2014. Though I’m not one to normally associate music with a book, while reading I kept hearing the song, “Say Something” by A Great Big World.

Emotionally dark, this novella opens up a veritable flood gate of pain, sadness, anger, and hope. Wanting someone who isn’t willing to give more is a heartbreak waiting to happen and Ali is determined not to be hurt anymore. After three years, she has grown to love Tate but his anger and grief keeps him mired in the past. Though only 80 pages, I never felt as though I was missing anything in the story or the protagonist’s relationship. I liked that while Tate and Ali aren’t guaranteed an HEA, they are given a chance at something incredible should they be able to work through their issues.

The romance is lush and bittersweet. The chemistry between Tate and Ali smolders heavy as they each struggle to deal with the changes in their relationship. It’s a strong part of the storyline and complements the conflict. Their physical scenes are steamy hot and satisfying. It was very easy to get caught up in the emotional currents of these two lovers.

The secondary characters are viable additions to the story as they add layers to the mystery. Each one is a piece in the puzzle; though Walker doesn’t give away much. As with any good suspense, there are multiple subplots running through the main storyline and each one is a possible key to the final outcome.

Burn For Me is an engaging start to this series and a must read for those readers who love their romances dark and uncertain. I am looking forward to the release of her next novella in the series, Break For Me, set to release late April 2014, by St Martin’s.

I actually started reading the Secrets & Shadows series with the second novella, Break for Me, and never got a chance to go back and read Burn for Me (although apparently I bought it and didn’t remember doing it). Having read the other two novellas and three novels in the series, it was nice to go back and read Tate’s story to find out just how he and Ali got together. While Break for Me got me hooked on the series and Ms. Walker’s writing, I have no doubt that Burn for Me would have done the same had I read it first – especially with that ending.

Truth be told, I’m actually glad I didn’t get to see this version of Tate and met him after the healing had already started. However, knowing the man that Tate becomes did not make this story any less emotional for me. The chemistry between Tate and Ali is apparent and not just because the novella starts with a sex scene (one of several seriously hot sex scenes). The story is written in such a way that the author gives us a little time in both Ali and Tate’s head, so we find out rather quickly that Ali loves Tate and has for years. Because Tate has put restrictions on their relationship to keep it at the friends with benefits level, she knows she can’t tell him how she really feels or she’ll lose him. But three years is a long time to love someone and only have part of him and Ali is beginning to question whether or not her heart can take it. I liked that while it was not an easy decision to come to, when Ali finally admitted that she was never going to have all of Tate and could no longer live that way she didn’t play games and give him an ultimatum. No, she told him straight out that she couldn’t see him anymore and why and didn’t give him a chance to change her mind. It was heartbreaking to watch because Ali didn’t do it expecting that Tate would suddenly profess his love for her, she did it knowing she was ripping her and his heart out and that it would end their friendship as well.

While it may not have been her intent, her breaking up with him forced Tate to reexamine his life and what he believed about his mother’s disappearance. This was the other big revelation for me as I was unaware of just how much Tate had blamed his father for his mother’s disappearance, how long their estrangement lasted, and how it affected everyone in his life that he was close to (his sisters and Ali). Witnessing the reconciliation between Tate and his father left me a blubbering mess both because it was good to see them reunite, but also because of the hard-learned and heartfelt advice his father gave him about love. Burn for Me was a great book and one I am so glad I finally got the chance to read. I really hope that Ms. Walker is planning to write more books in the Secrets & Shadows series because it’s one of my favorite romantic suspense series.

I reviewed my personal copy of the book.

My Review:
This is labeled as a novella and it can be read in just a couple of hours, but it definitely doesn't read like a novella. This is a story rich in depth, with incredible characters.

Tate and Ali have had a friends-with-benefits arrangement for several years and it's still as hot as ever. But it's becoming something more which is something that Ali can't live with because Tate has always made it perfectly clear that they will never have anything more. But with two small boys who are becoming attached to Tate and the knowledge that she's falling in love with him, she knows she has to let him go. She needs more.

Tate is haunted. 15 years ago, his mother disappeared and is assumed dead. He thinks his father killed her and as the 14 yo listening to them fight that night, he blames himself for her death. He's haunted by that and the fact that he is so much like his father. That terrifies him and although he cares deeply for Ali and her boys, he can't ever be anything more to them. He won't risk their lives.

Because this is a novella there is a ton of backstory that is loaded into it that happened before, but it works and makes this story so much deeper than a normal novella. I loved that. One of the things I love about Shiloh Walker's writing is her ability to show the emotions through her characters, who are usually pretty tortured souls. This book and Tate's character in particular did that so well. This man...wow, I just wanted to hold him. He doesn't want to let Ali go and it's killing him that he's losing her. He has a great character arc in a short amount of time to try and fix that. It's incredibly well-done and I absolutely fell in love with him.

On the other hand is Ali who is doing what she has to do to preserve her family...even though she doesn't want to with everything in her. She knows she deserves more. She was such a strong character and I love that she stood up to Tate.

Overall, this is a fabulous introduction to this new series. And I will say that I'm really intrigued because this is an unusual way to start a new series. The three siblings (Tate and his two sisters) get a novella before the first book releases. They honestly don't know what happened to their mother. I have a feeling that mystery will impact the entire series, but I have no idea how. Like I said, I love the set-up and am so excited about the entire series. I love romantic suspense and Shiloh Walker is a master at writing it!

BURN FOR ME is the first of the three novella prequels leading up to DEEPER THAN NEED, the first novel length installment of the Shiloh Walker’s new Secrets & Shadows series. The prequel novellas feature the three Bell siblings and the on-going fallout from their mother, Nichole’s long ago disappearance. And I have to say, as far as opening scenes go…Shiloh Walker certainly knows how to grab your attention. Damn! That was HAWT!

Eldest sibling Tate Bell is the focus of BURN FOR ME and I found myself wanting to both wanting to wrap him up in a huge hug and give him a quick sharp kick in the butt! Thank goodness he has Ali to do both! The guilt and anger he feels over his mother’s disappearance have caused him to hold himself back from the very things that could heal him…love and acceptance from both Ali and his father.

Ali knows that their friends-with-benefits relationship isn’t enough to satisfy either of them, but knows that by pushing to hard she risks losing him. But perhaps that push is exactly what Tate needs to come face-to-face with the demons that plague him. It’s definitely what Ali needs if they’re ever going to have a true lasting relationship.

BURN FOR ME is a pretty quick read. The chemistry between Tate and Ali sparks, smolders, and flames in all the right places. The mystery of Nichole’s disappearance keeps you trying to figure out what happened and Ms. Walker does it again at the end! She throws in a big hint of revelations to come that make me want to read the second prequel, BREAK FOR ME, right now!!! Well, at least it’s not a long wait for prequel 2…only April 22, 2014. I can wait that long right? But as for you? You should definitely grab BURN FOR ME now!

In Burn for Me we meet Tate, one of the three Bell siblings. They have a very tragic past, their mother disappeared 15 years ago, and the mystery of her disappearance is still unsolved and an open wound for all of them.

Tate Bell is the oldest of the three and has always blamed his father for his mother’s disappearance. He is convinced his father killed his mother. He is a tortured soul and holds his emotions back afraid he may end up hurting someone he loves, just like his father did.

Ali Holmes is a single mother of two and has been in love with Tate since High School. She knows she can help Tate, if only he would let himself feel what they have. But, she realizes that he may never be able to do that and takes steps to distance her heart from him.

Shiloh has done it again!! Burn for Me is the first of three Novella’s about the Bell Family and the Starting of Shiloh Walkers new Secrets & Shadows Series. I was drawn into the story almost from page one. There is so much emotion in this story it practically jumps off the page at you. While reading I laughed, cried, and yelled at Tate & Ali. But most of all, I Enjoyed seeing how their relationship evolved.

Burn for Me was a GREAT start to a new series. Because it is a novella, the story line moves fast. You get a lot of information, and a lot happens between Tate & Ali, in a short period of time. But the impact of that much emotion in such a short time frame is intense. I can not wait to read the next one. This series will definitely be on my MUST READ list.

Burn For Me by Shiloh Walker is a fast paced introduction novella to Shiloh's Secrets and Shadows series.

After a tragedy that changed his whole outlook on life, his way of being and the way he views himself, Tate has kept his emotions under tight control, his feelings hidden. He has a relationship with Ali, but in her opinion it is more of a friends with benefits relationship. He keeps so much of himself from her, coming and going in the night. Ali loves Tate, but she needs so much more. So much more than he's willing to give.

Tate feels so much peace when he's with Ali. But he's afraid to give anymore. As much as it hurts, Ali has to do what is right for her or she'll never find what she needs. It breaks both of their hearts, but Tate is unable to let go of the past and move on. Until he can, until he can open himself up, if he ever can, Ali can no longer be with him. Will Tate ever be able to move on? Or will he stay locked in the past and lose Ali?

Tate and Ali have a smouldering relationship that Ali wants to take to the next level. As painful as it is, I love how she is honest with Tate about what she needs and wants. Tate really has suffered, and even as he frustrates you, you will really come to care for him.

Burn For Me is a fantastic, quickly read novella. Shiloh writes with a passion that will suck you into their relationship and make you feel the emotions. I love how she ended Burn For Me but left enough mystery and room to leave you anxious for the next novella in this series.

I will definitely be reading all of these books! I recommend Burn For Me to any romance reader looking for a quick novella filled with passion, angst, and mystery.

Tate Bell hasn't gotten over the disappearance of his mother and can't forget how his father's temper flared during the argument he had right before his wife disappeared never to be found again.

As a result, he keeps his emotions in check and never opens up about the pain he has felt all these years. Not even to the woman who has been there for him all these years.

Ali Holmes has had enough of Tate being emotionally withdrawn--she needs more than sex from him. And although it hurts her to do it she decides to their 'relationship'.

Lost and a little hurt that he has lost the only woman he has ever loved, Tate goes tries to come to terms with the events that happened that fateful night. But the question remains--will it be too late to win Ali back?

I liked this story very much. I loved the mix of emotions, the mystery of Tate's mother disappearance and the chemistry between Ali and Tate. Sure, they had amazing chemistry but I can't help but wish that I could have seen more of the connection between them.

However, I think the author made up for it by bringing their emotions to the page when it counted. When Ali decided to confront Tate and put an end to their relationship, Shiloh Walker didn't miss a beat. That whole scene was as intense as it was heartbreaking. She also didn't pull any punches when Tate decided to open up to Ali.

I can't wait to read more about these characters. Tate's family has suffered plenty and I'm curious to see how their story plays. I'm also looking forward to learning what the hell happened to Tate's mother.

All in all, an intriguing hot yet emotional read.

Burn For Me, the first of three prequel novellas in Shiloh Walker’s new series Secrets & Shadows, was a fantastic read that I just couldn’t get enough of! To only be 80 pages, this novella packed a serious punch and absolutely had me hooked.

Ali and Tate have had a friends-with-benefits relationship for a couple of years now, and even though they both have deep feelings for the other, Ali knows that Tate isn’t ready for a commitment. She wants and deserves more and, as painful as it may be, she knows that she has to end their affair. She wants to be loved, valued, respected and to be more than a convenience for Tate.

Tate is a man filled with hate, grief and guilt stemming from the disappearance of his mother when he was just a teenager. However, underneath those emotions lies the one that cripples him the most, fear. Fear of the unknown, fear over things that he cannot control and fear of hurting those that he loves. Tate has been in love with Ali for years, and she has been the light that he so desperately needs to chase away his dark demons. But he lets his fear control him and keeps pushing her away.

Burn For Me is my very first Shiloh Walker read and I am captivated by her writing style and beautifully written characters. This story was intense, emotional, honest, emotive and such a huge pleasure to read. Burn For Me is a definite add to your must have list! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next books in this, sure to be amazing, series.

An intense, emotional novella…

Ali Holmes has been involved in a “friends with benefits” relationship with Tate Bell for years. She deeply loves him but yearns for more. She understands that he suffered greatly from the disappearance of his mother when he was young but things need to change for herself and for her children. If only he would share with her it would make a difference but he lives behind strong walls through which no one can reach.

Tate Bell is tormented by the night his mother disappeared 15 years ago. He blames his father. He loves Ali but doesn’t believe he has anything to offer her but his nightmares and fears and that scares him. Ali is a breath of fresh air to him; he finds peace in her arms. He struggles with what he wants and what he is able to give until the choice is made for him. Sometimes you have to lose what you love and need to gain the strength to really fight for it.

This was an intense, well-written, emotional novella. The story of a man forced to face his demons to keep what he loves and it is not always easy to move on from devastating tragedy even years afterwards. For a short work there was much depth. The main characters were likable and you could feel the chemistry between them. The supporting characters were interesting. This is the prequel novella to a new series. The town is intriguing and there are mysteries alluded to that need to be solved.

A woman's disappearance after a domestic dispute fifteen years before has left a family torn apart and a man unable to move on with his own life. Tate Bell's life is only satisfying when he is with Ali, but he is a broken messed up man thinking he doesn't deserve happiness or is capable of being what she needs him to be so he keeps her at arm's length.

Ali knew the deal when she agreed to a friends with benefits deal with Tate, but it has turned into something more for her. Tate will never give her more so she makes a tough decision that breaks both their hearts, but it rattles Tate enough to start him taking inventory of where his life is.

Tate and his two sisters witnessed their parents engage in an ugly battle of words where his dad said things that Tate can never forgive and Tate has blamed his dad for his mom's disappearance and likely death all along even though his dad always claimed innocence of killing her. Now, if he wants anything with Ali, he needs to face it all down and make things right. Maybe even start thinking along the lines that if his dad didn't do it, then who did?

This was a shorter piece, but it packed quite the punch. I can't believe how long it has taken me to get around to reading Ms. Walker's stuff. In just a few pages, the plot, the backdrop and the characters drew me right in. The romance was passionate and poignant and the suspense is promising. I look forward to what is to come.

When this story opens, we encounter Tate and Ali in bed. Yes, these two are hot and heavy friends with benefits, but after three years Ali wants more. Familiar story right? Well, Shiloh Walker takes this trope makes it urgently fresh and powerful.

One of the reasons I love reading her books is that I hear and see both protagonists so clearly. When Shiloh Walker writes Tate’s (or any of the male protagonists parts), you really hear his voice. Yes, this is how guys act and think. That’s not to say the women aren’t equally strong or believable, just that there’s a power and strength in these stories that is equally fueled by testosterone as estrogen.

When single mom Ali spies a red Coach bag on a newcomer in her pizzeria, I’m there, lusting with her. She thinks she's unobserved, but I’m also looking at her through Tate’s eyes as he watches her, never letting on he’s really “seeing” her.

There’s fabulous passion, an unresolved mystery, and major trust issues to deal with. I wasn’t sure if everything would be resolved by the end of the book and the mystery isn’t. But this isn’t a cliffhanger ending, but a start of an evolving series that will focus on both this mystery and others that are hidden in the town’s shadows.

The first prequel in the Secrets & Shadows series.

Ali and Tate have been having a "secret" no strings attached relationship for a while now, but Tate has been blurring the lines with Ali (loving her kids, wanting to kiss her in public, etc.) and she is fine with it until she wants the full commitment and Tate just can't do it because of his dark past. Tate is afraid he'll be just like his father, who Tate still thinks is responsible for his mother's disappearance several years ago. Not knowing what happened to his mother and being afraid his father murdered her, leads Tate to believe he is also capable of violence and is terrified he'll do something to Ali.

If this were a full-length novel I probably would have been an emotional wreck because Tate is seriously deep and his realization at the end about Ali was very touching. If there was more room in this novella, the characters could have been explored more, but I found I didn't really need it.

This is also the only prequel of the 3 that we meet the 2 main characters that will be featured in the first full-length book. Can't wait!

REVIEW:
Burn for Me it the first novella in Shiloh Walker’s new Secrets & Shadows series. In Burn for Me we get to meet Tate Bell. A man afraid to truly love or let anyone get too close. Yet knows that the one thing that matters most to him is about ready to walk away. Ali might love Tate, but she can’t wait for him any more. Walking away is going to be the hardest thing she has ever done.

This was an amazing start to Shiloh’s new romance suspense series. Let me tell you chapter one starts of with a major bang. While there is a love story the mystery that surrounds the Bell family has me dying for the next novella in this series.

If you love romance suspense you need to add Burn for Me to your read list.

I'm a huge Shiloh Walker fan. I was super excited to see she had a new series of books from St. Martin's Press, and with Burn for Me, she set the story up well.

Burn for Me is a novella length story and while it is a quick read, it is also a very satisfying read. Tate and Ali have amazing chemistry together and I loved how strong Ali had to be to let Tate know she needed things to change for her and her boys. I could feel how much Ali loved Tate and knew it wasn't easy to take a stand.

Tate has always blamed his father for his mother's disappearance and in his mind death. It was hard watching Tate pretty much lose all of his family because of the mistakes from the past. I honestly just wanted to give him a hug and "Gibbs" smack him for not being open to what his family was trying to tell him and not believing in love.

I have to say even with this story being a novella length, it was really awesome and gave the reader a great set up for this new series. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series now.

ARC REVIEW:

3.5 stars.
One of the reasons I read Shiloh Walker's books is for her versatility. I had just finished The Departed , which I loved, and starting reading this ARC. It threw me for a loop because The Departed is a dark, moody, romantic suspense and I didn't have any context for this first-in-series contemporary romance. However, what both books DO have in common is Shiloh Walker's trademark intensity. This is an a passionate story about guilt, building walls, and learning to ask for more. At it's core is emotional upheaval. I related most with Ali's determination to either get what she wanted or to let it all go. I think it is a sign of strength to realize that the pain of staying is worse than letting go and therefore, courageous to make it happen. This isn't a new story, but written in Shiloh Walker's blazing style, it hits an emotional cord that resonates.

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review
