Spring break was supposed to be a last blast of fun for three friends before the reality of adulthood set in. But for the trio’s science whiz, it’s an education in instant attraction…
Chemistry major Felicity Stone can tell you everything about the way chemicals interact, but when it comes to social interaction, she needs schooling. Abandoned by her friends, Felicity is faced with spending spring break alone—unless she accepts a gorgeous stranger’s invitation to pose as his girlfriend at a family wedding. Not one to turn down a research opportunity, Felicity never expected it to produce such breathtaking results…
Teacher and baseball coach Lucas Tanner is fascinated by Felicity’s potent mix of spirit and scientist, not to mention her delicious curves. When Felicity asks him to return the favor by teaching her how to pick up guys, he can’t refuse—but he’s not at all happy with the idea of her using a formula for flirting on anyone but him. Can he convince her that together they have the perfect chemistry?
This series is exactly what it advertises, it’s hot and nerdy with charming characters and lighthearted plots, perfectly satisfying my urge for a quick and fun new adult romance.
It was supposed to be their last hurrah before the triad of nerd girl friends joined adult real world. But chemistry major Felicity Stone was the only one to reach their intended destination. Albeit with an unintended companion and a deal to pretend to be the handsome stranger’s fake girlfriend during his brother’s wedding festivities. What she would get in return is something no formula or science experiment could have predicted.
Lucas Tanner was dreading going alone to his brother’s wedding for fear of being ambushed by his ex. He never expected to be sitting next to the most perfect socially awkward woman he’s ever met. Her spunky personality, scientific mind and outer beauty charmed him and have him practically begging her to help him out during his family event. When Felicity agrees, she only asks that he teach her how to flirt. Why does it bother him so much that she want to pick up any other man than him? Can he convince her to use her newly acquired formula on him and only him?
I really like pretend girlfriend/boyfriend scenarios. I guess you can say their cliché, but they’re entertaining for a reason, they allow the characters to interact in a “safe” relationship which can lead them to see how a real bond could be.
I was really excited about Felicity and Lucas after their very first exchange ended up with Lucas in Felicity’s space thinking that their chemistry, pun intended, would leap out of the pages and I would have loads of fun with similar conversations.
They did have a lot of moments, but I feel as though the short length of the story was detrimental to the character development and there for having their attraction not feel as real as I had hoped. It was either that or Felicity’s total cluelessness. Although I did understand her lack of social skills and really liked that Lucas found what she perceived as deficiencies he saw as endearing character traits.
I enjoyed the story and especially liked how the epilogue nicely wrapped up the stories for the three nerd girls I so easily identified with. Shannyn Shroeder has another set of Hot and Nerdy books featuring men I’m very sure will hit the spot when I’m in the mood for a fast, fun and sexy New Adult romance.
Her Winning Formula is book #3 in the Hot and Nerdy trilogy by Shannyn Shroeder. It is told from both points of view and has a happy ending. It can be read as a standalone or can be read in the trilogy bundle. If you’re looking for a short and hot new adult romance this a novella for you.
Felicity is a chemistry major taking time off to meet up with her friends, Charlie and Layla for spring break. Before boarding the plane, Felicity finds out that both will be delayed and so she’ll be on her own for much of the trip. Enter Lucas, a fellow passenger and, of course, the guy she ends up next to for the flight. Lucas is gorgeous and attentive so that’s hardly a bad thing.
Lucas is flying out for his brother’s destination wedding and in hopes of keeping an ex-girlfriend at bay he asks Felicity to be his fake date/girlfriend for the wedding. Felicity’s sexy and different, and Lucas is immediately attracted to her. She reluctantly agrees and soon Lucas finds himself falling for his fake date.
Felicity is brilliant but socially awkward. She has trouble interpreting reactions from other people and so she doesn’t always pick up on social clues. Lucas finds what Felicity thinks of as negatives in her personality endearing. Their “fake” pairing leads to some lusty, chemistry filled moments, yet, Felicity doesn’t believe that he is really serious about her. She doesn’t pick up on the fact that he’s falling for her as much as she’s falling for him even after they share a passion filled night together. So she asks him to tutor her in the art of flirting and picking up a man.
I kind of wanted to smack Felicity upside the head at this, and didn’t care for the direction the plot seemed to be taking. But knowing Felicity’s social limitations had me giving her a bit of a pass for being so obtuse. Thankfully, that situation was short lived, (this is a novella after all) and things were sorted to my liking pretty quickly.
This wasn’t an insta-love romance, something that you always worry a little about when picking up a novella, but it was clear these two were on the right path by the end with a sweet ending. Her Winning Formula is the third installment of the Hot and Nerdy novella series and I hoped to see a little beyond this little slice of time with an epilogue showing the couples in the future. Still, these stories were fun, sexy, and fast paced. Perfect romance pick me up in under 100 pages. A copy was kindly provided by e-Kensington via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
An enjoyable New Adult romance that was both sweet and hot, Her Winning Formula was a really good read. It was fun, sweet, and I liked it.
Felicity and Lucas were both great. Felicity was socially awkward in a way that made her easy to relate to. She was crazy smart and, despite her tendency to accidentally offend people, she was likable. Lucas was simply a good guy. Sweet, funny, and definitely adorable, he was just great.
The romance was okay. I felt like it moved well at first, then got stuck in a rut before it moved on to its final steps. That part where it got stuck in stasis was a little annoying, but not a major problem. They were a sweet couple and they definitely had some hot chemistry. So, I still thought they were great together.
The story was well paced, other than the aforementioned part that dragged a little, and enjoyable. I was kept interested all the way and I thought the ending was lovely.
Her Winning Formula was a sweet and steamy New Adult romance that I enjoyed. Though not perfect, it was still an enjoyable read. Romance lovers, you might want to look this one up.

There is something about a socially awkward person learning to be what they perceive as "normal" that I love reading about. Yes Felicity was a bit awkward, but it wasn't that bad. She just needed to learn the "rules" to interact with people. It seemed like once Lucas laid them out for her she was fine.
I loved watching Felicity and Lucas go from strangers to so much more. I was glad that both of them realized quickly that things were more than what they appeared on the surface and they went for things together.
This was the third book in a trio of loosely connected books about the romantic adventures of three geeky girls on their separate Spring Break adventures. I love cheering for an underdog heroine in a romance so I grabbed this one up eagerly.
Felicity has a bit of a rough start, but finally gets on a plane to meet her one of her best friends for a Spring Break adventure on the beaches of South Padre Island. Now granted, the perfect trip is already spoiled because one girlfriend already bowed out and the other one will be late because of car trouble and losing her ID. But she's already got her ticket and on her way when she finds out. Socially awkward Felicity figures she has a chemistry project she can work on and an e-reader full of books to keep her entertained even though both friends would encourage her to get out and enjoy herself. Her seat partner on the plane ends up being a cute guy who is terrified to fly. Her kindness in helping him through it leads to his ask her for an extraordinary favor. He's headed for his brother's wedding where he has an ex-girlfriend waiting for him and he wants Felicity to come as his pretend girlfriend.
Lucas isn't sure what to make of the serious girl who seems to blurt things out and struggle with basic conversation and reading social cues, but he's definitely interested. She reluctantly agrees to spend the first few days of her trip pretending to be with him to keep Becky off his back since her friend won't arrive on time anyway. Lucas thought he was off women for a while, but spending time with Felicity proves that maybe he just needed to stumble upon the right woman. If only he can convince Felicity...
This is a quick and short novella that was fun and entertaining. I found the characters the best part. This author nailed it with the heroine. You read all the time about supposed social awkward geeky characters that really are pretty normal, but Felicity truly does have troubles. In fact, the story will even feel a bit out of sync and jerky because of Felicity's issues. She really can't function in a social setting and Lucas is the first person other than her friends that has taken the time to patiently help her through it. He does it because he cares and he is into her, but she thinks he's doing it because she needs fixing- that thought courtesy of his ex. I liked these two for each other and my stars were they hot in the hotel room. Felicity might be backward when out with people, but that girl sure knew what she wanted when it came to sexy times. She shocked Lucas and I both.
It does end on a quick happy for now, but that makes sense for the situation. It's good for a light, sexy read when a person wants an entertaining half hour or so. It's an NA read technically, but I sometimes forgot that so it might work for some adult Contemporary Romance fans too.
My thanks to Kensington and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Her Winning Formula is the third novella in the Hot & Nerdy Series by Shannyn Schroeder. Each of these stories can be read as standalones though as they are about interconnected characters. In Her Winning Formula, Felicity Stone is headed to Texas for spring break. She meets a handsome stranger at the airport and they get off on the wrong foot. But when they are on the airplane and Lucas starts to have some issues with flying, Felicity helps him out. When she finds out that her friends won't be joining her in Texas after all, she agrees to help Lucas out by attending a wedding with him in order for him to be able to avoid his ex. Felicity agrees to help Lucas out in exchange for lessons on how to flirt and pick-up guys. But the more time they spend together, the more Lucas and Felicity both start to disagree with the idea of her and anyone but Lucas.
I liked Lucas and Felicity. Lucas was sweet and caring, and I really liked seeing him be so patient with Felicity. He was encouraging and supportive, and was always trying to help her out. He wasn't at all bothered by her odd behavior, and really seemed to be interested in getting to know the real her. He also didn't push too hard or try to change her, which I really enjoyed. Felicity was awkward and had less than great social skills. She had been used to relying on her friends for help, but this time around she only had Lucas. It was great to see her open up to him and to accept that he liked her just as she was. These two were cute together, and I thought that they fit really well. They had a lot of chemistry and also just seemed to click from the start. Their connection was quick, but it didn't feel forced.
Overall, this was a short and cute romance. I liked the characters, and I was glad that they weren't the same cookie-cutter type NA characters that you often see. I do feel as though their connection was a bit rushed, followed by a bit of a slump where I felt like they should have been more open with each other. Communication seemed to be a big issue for them, with both of them making assumptions and not speaking to each other. I also felt like the ending was really abrupt. It was going well and picking back up again only to suddenly stop. I had wanted a bit more, and was curious to see how things played out for these two. I felt like we really missed out on getting to see what happened after everything went down. I would maybe give this one a shot if you are looking for a short and sweet NA read, but if you are looking for something deep well tied up at the end this might not be the one for you.
I love this series. I have read the first two and I was really excited when the last one came out and I wasn’t disappointed. Shannyn created three novellas that tell different stories but come together to create one fun and sexy series.
Felicity Stone might have the most money but she is the most uncomfortable around everyone. She doesn’t understand how to interpret what people say or how they act. Felicity easily offends people with her blunt nature. When she meets Lucas at the airport they have an immediate connection and he doesn’t shy away from her awkward tendencies. She wants to be fixed and Lucas seems to be the best option.
Lucas is on his way to his brother’s wedding when he meets the perfect women to bring to the wedding as his date. The more time he spends with Felicity the more he becomes to adore her mixture of science and spirit. When she asks him to help her learn to pick up men he doesn’t refuse but he comes to realize the only person he wants her to use it on his him.
I loved Lucas and Felicity’s story. Between the two there were many misunderstandings but there also was a lot of chemistry. Lucas was the perfect person to bring Felicity out of her shell. Felicity finds a way to get through her awkwardness and make friends with Lucas’ family.
This series was written really well and the flow worked. The stories are novellas but the stories are genuine and real. Now I really want a novella with updates on these characters. There just wasn’t enough! I love this series and can’t wait to read more from this author.
Her Winning Formula is the third and final novella in the first set of Hot & Nerdy books from author Shannyn Schroeder. Chemistry student Felicity Stone and Special Ed Teacher Lucas Tanner meet at an airport and end up spending time together when Lucas asks her to be his fake girlfriend while attending family gatherings centered around his brother's wedding. The story sticks to the usual formula of a fake couple falling for one another and ending up wanting their relationship to be the real thing, but I felt the chemistry, pun intended, between these two main characters a bit lacking for a good portion of the book.
This third book suffers from the same issues as the first one in that there wasn't that much in terms of character development. Add to that a lack of believability when it comes to Lucas and Felicity being into each other and you end up with a book that was okay but not having that extra something that would have set it apart from books that share a similar story line. The three novellas can be read as standalones but they're also available in a combined release. A second set of Hot & Nerdy books is in the offing, this time featuring guys as having the aforementioned qualities. Her Winning Formula gets three out of five stars. ♥
ARC provided by publisher via Netgalley in exchange for honest review.
Cute story about Lucas, a teacher who seems to have the ability to fix the problems of those around him, and Felicity, a chemistry major who has book smarts but lacks the ability on interpreting human behavior and interactions.
I love the interactions and chemistry between Felicity and Lucas, although I really didn't get to see Felicity's lack of knowledge when it came to talking with other people. Maybe because Lucas sort of coached her before each outing? She more than held her own at the wedding reception when up against Lucas' ex. She also seemed comfortable enough with Lucas that we really didn't get to see any discomfort around him. To me, I got sense that Felicity is more of a literal person and doesn't know how to think outside the box (my youngest daughter shows some of the same characteristics of Felicity).
The events of this story flowed well enough that even though this only takes place over 3 days, it's still an enjoyable ride, and there are only a couple of sexytime scenes, but each one is hella hot!
Pretty much middle of the road for me. Still cleaning off my Kindle so that gets this series down. In particular, this book does have an HEA, it also has a series arc epilogue in it. Dual third person pov's and the writing itself is pretty darn good. Good fluff read.
Just as the title suggests this story contained many of my favorite elements and put a smile on my face from the very first page. From its likable main couple to their carefree and lighthearted interactions this story was a heartwarming story of a woman who finally starts battling her insecurities to start living life to the fullest and the supportive man drawn to her. It's a great end to the romantic journey to HEA for a nerdy trio of friends.
Felicity is going to meet her friends for a much-deserved celebration before they all move on to their next stage of life when she's left alone through a twist of fate. She's not totally alone though after meeting the super sweet and sexy Lucas who needs a date for his brother's wedding to keep his ex from trying to rekindle things. She surprises herself by saying yes to pretending to be his girlfriend and is surprised even further by how comfortable she is around him and the inspiration he soon becomes for her to want more out of life. Felicity has always been devoted to science and success and has never felt comfortable in social situations, but being with Lucas has her embracing all the things she's read about in books. Felicity is immensely likable and seeing her come out of her shell is endearing and cheer-worthy as she gets the guy over the perky cheerleader-type. Felicity is a tell-it-like-it-is person and her honesty is refreshing to Lucas after dealing with his ex's duplicitous nature and I loved watching them grow closer together.
Lucas is the perfect hero with his sweet, supportive, and sexy nature. He's caring and close to his family which makes him even sexier. He's drawn to Felicity's unique qualities and refreshing honesty and wants to help her finally start living life. Though she doesn't think she's sexy he finds everything about her desirable and as their relationship progressed the sexual tension built. What first started out as a friendship easily evolved into more through their subtle verbal foreplay and crackling connection that was endearingly sweet and sexy. Lucas never rushed Felicity, knowing her fears, but pushed her to embrace all that he was offering as he felt a deep connection to her he hadn't felt before. For all that, I hereby make Lucas my new book boyfriend and I'm left still dreaming about him.
This was a light hearted read with very little conflict beyond the usual. It was a carefree read with delightfully witty banter between Felicity and Lucas. Their relationship teemed with sexual tension and sensual verbal foreplay that culminated in steamy sexual interludes. Though the story got a bit slow at the midway point and was a bit rushed at the end it was still a satisfying story due to its delightful main couple and their entertaining and heartwarming journey to HEA.
I received a copy of this story from NetGalley for an honest review for The Reading Room Blog.
The Hot & Nerdy Series has been a refreshing set of novella’s where the leading ladies are as equally equipped with smarts as they are with beauty. The hotties they find that show them life outside of intellectual pursuits do not hurt the stories either. I was excited to check out the series conclusion, Her Winning Formula.
Felicity Stone has the smarts to be at the top of her class at Harvard, it’s just basic social skills she’s never been able to master. Felicity’s only social support comes from her two BFF’s Layla and Charlie and she desperately needs some time with them before the three start their new post-college lives. When Felicity’s recommendation for a last minute Spring Break trip to Texas implodes leaving her on her own, the brainiac is left with no clue what to do.
Lucas Tanner wants to get through his brother’s wedding and quickly and painlessly as possible. Unfortunately he knows that is going to be impossible with his catty ex as one of the bridesmaids. When he finds out the quiet beauty next to him on the plane is on her own Lucas comes up with the perfect plan – fake girlfriend. Lucas gets a reason to keep his ex at bay and Felicity gets someone to keep her company.
Things seem win, win until the harmless charade quickly spirals out of the couple’s control. Will Felicity be smart enough to pick up the signals when Lucas stops wanting to pretend and to start getting real?
What I Loved:Her Winning Formula is a quick and easy read that I polished off in one sitting. Leads Felicity and Lucas are likeable and there is sweetness to their romance that helps you root for them. Felicity struggles with a lot of self-doubt and I truly felt for her character.
What I Didn’t Love:Her Winning Formula didn’t have the same spark and energy for me that I experienced in the first two Hot & Nerdy books (Her Best Shot and Her Perfect Game). I wanted a little more growth for both Lucas and Felicty and their ending felt a tad rushed.
Favorite Quotes:
“During the course of speaking, she opened up. Her body language relaxed, and she was in the moment, not worrying about anything. She was honest and vulnerable. It was pretty fucking sexy.”
“But looking into Lucas’s eyes undid her. This was more than just different. It was special, but she didn’t even know how or why.”
The Hot & Nerdy Series has been a lot of fun and even though Her Winning Formula is not my favorite of the three novella series, I do recommend checking it out.
Chemistry major Felicity planned on spending her spring break with her best friends Charlie and Layla, but their plans have been upended, and the socially awkward braniac finds herself vacationing on her own. When the gorgeous man next to her on the flight asks her to stand in as his date at his brother's wedding, she's worried about being able to pull off the charade. But what she should really be worried about is her attraction and growing friendship with Lucas.
The Verdict: Felicity's a smart girl, but she has trouble interpreting the subtle social nuances that the rest of the world finds so easy, and its led her to rely on her two best friends for comfortable human interaction. Without them, she's not so much clueless as she is afraid of messing up, and it's that fear that keeps her from falling into step with the rest of society.
Lucas is of course drop-dead gorgeous, but he's also genuinely kind and guileless, and while Felicity sees herself as socially stunted, he sees her efforts at normal social graces as endearing, a reflection of the truly good person she is. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she's a beautiful girl, and her need for some kind of guidance opens the door for him, so to speak.
Their relationship is simply adorable, beginning as two people facing awkward social situations and trying to help each other out, and then moving into strong attraction territory. Between Lucas's nice guy persona and Felicity's obliviousness to his interest in her, things are slow to take off, but their chemistry is sizzling, and the innocent way in which their relationship develops is fun to watch.
Instead of insta-love, a friendly dependency is the catalyst for their pseudo-pairing, and as things grow between them, it feels more genuine than the usual stories of instant attraction, social manipulation, and all that jazz. Her Winning Formula is a sweet, rather angst-free romance that avoids the saccharine fluff trap most quick reads like this fall into. Despite its novella length, the relationship develops at an unhurried pace, making the inevitable happily ever after that more believable.
***FicCentral received this book from Kensington Books (via NetGalley) for free in exchange for an honest review. Even so, we're far too opinionated to let a freebie influence our thoughts or the contents of the reviews we post here.
Her Winning Formula by Shannyn Schroeder is the 3rd book in her Hot & Nerdy series. I had enjoyed the first two books, but did have some minor issues. I was not sure if Felicity would interest me. However, I have to say that Her Winning Formula was the best one yet. I loved this fun, sexy and charming romance.
Felicity is our heroine, and she is the one who planned the spring break trip to Texas for her and her two friends. Layla and Charlie never made it, as we see what happened to them in the first two books. Felicity, who though smart and independent, is not confident in meeting men, and now that she is abandoned by her friends, she alone. In the airport, she meets Lucas, our hero and she immediately rebuffs him. Of course, they end up sitting next to each other on the plane. Lucas is afraid of flying, and it is Felicity, who helps him relax during turbulence, which surprises herself, as she is not a conversationalist with the opposite sex. During their ride, Lucas, who finds himself attracted to Felicity, asks for her help. He is on his way to his brother’s wedding and his ex-girlfriend will be there too. Lucas wants Felicity to go to the wedding as his girlfriend, thereby stopping any attempt by his ex. After some persuasion, and knowing she is alone on this trip, she eventually agrees.
Lucas is a special-ed teacher & baseball coach; Felicity is a chemistry major at Harvard, where upon from graduation will work for her father. Using the suggestions and guidelines that Lucas taught her, Felicity was a hit with his family. Their chemistry between them became apparent quickly, and their sexual scenes were hot. Both have some minor issues, such as Lucas not wanting a relationship, and Felicity thinking no one is really interested in her. It was really fun to watch as Lucas teaches her the winning formula how to attract a man.
Her Winning Formula is a nice sweet charming romance between two people who are opposites, and yet perfect for each other. We got to enjoy watching their relationship grow, and how they get past those issues. If you enjoy novellas, romance, nice couples, and quick reads, I suggest to read Shannyn Schroeder’s Hot & Nerdy series.
Her Winning Formula Hot and Nerdy, #3 by Shannyn Schroeder
Released: November 24, 2014 $2.51 Kindle, $2.99 Nook
*** Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review. ***
Felicity Stone is in her final year at Harvard and plans to work in R and D, developing perfume, for her dad. She's on her way to South Padre for Spring Break and plans to meet one of her best friends there. She is the last to share her experience of the ill-planned Spring Break get-together that never quite happened as planned.
Lucas Tanner is on his way to Texas to attend his brother's wedding even though he absolutely hates flying. He's a Special Education teacher and baseball coach in Chicago, coincidentally where Felicity is originally from. He needs a date for the wedding to keep his ex girlfriend off and away from him, inviting Felicity to be his plus one.
Novella length. This is the third story in the series The timelines to all three books run parallel to one another. She's socially introverted and single-minded. He's charming, friendly and well- socialized. Together... perfectly sweet. Lucas and Felicity truly DO "click". The characters, primary and secondary, are well-written and their interaction/dialogue with one another is very believable. The plot is cute and fun; lighter than Charlie's was. There was a reasonable conflict and believable resolution. Predictability was practically non-existent. The ending was extremely abrupt, where it felt severed. Although it was solidly concluded, it could have benefited from a few more closing chapters, possibly tying the three girls together after Spring Break.
Felicity is the girl who has it all – and she is making the arrangements for all of her friends to join her in Texas over spring break. The only problem with that is Layla is stranded in Georgia and Charlie is going to a HackCon. So, Felicity is spending her last spring break of freedom alone.
Schroeder has developed these three friends solidly, and they all have brains and skills that are considered ‘nerdy’ by some, but are so well integrated that these are girls you want to know. Felicity is the chemistry major, and her biggest fear is to meet new people.
With her friends unable to join her, a meeting with a handsome stranger that is in need of a date to a wedding, Felicity decides to take a chance and go along with Lucas’ plan to pretend to be his girlfriend, if he does one thing for her. She has always thought herself awkward and unable to meet men, so Lucas agrees he will help her in her quest to learn.
What we, and Lucas, see is that Felicity is no more incapable of meeting people than most of us are: it is her own insecurities that have her stymied. Lucas finds her smart and attractive, and he is determined to serve as the guinea pig for her experiment.
This one was a little light on the characters and backstory, and could have used a bit more development in the relationship, but what we got was pure lighthearted vacation fun. Their connection is electric and steamy, and their conversations and flirtation feel real and possible. As a wrap up to the series, it fits the general feel and makes a nice conclusion to the stories from the three girls.
I read books 2 and 3 in succession, one after the other, and it was a wonderful diversion. This is one of those 3 part series stories that would perfectly fill an afternoon when you need the diversion of a fun and happy romance.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
When I first saw the series Hot & Nerdy by Shannyn Schroeder, I just had to take a look. Three books about three "nerd" girls, almost done with college and trying, unsuccessfully, to have a last hoorah together before heading in different directions. The first book, Her Best Shot, gave us Layla - the math whiz. The second was Her Perfect Game with Charlie the hacker. And this final story is Felicity, the science nerd.
One of the best things about this trilogy is that its not the same girl, just with a different name and hair color. Ms. Schroeder shows us that there is plenty of diversity attached to that wonderful 'Nerd' label. Each of the girls has a completely different personality. Getting a peek a their interactions with each other was both fun and revealing of more facets of each character.
Felicity is much more the 'typical' nerd that people think of - problems interacting socially, using math and science to calm herself when stressed. What was lovely is that Lucas sees beyond this and helps Felicity to see past what she thought of as her social awkwardness. I attribute his patience with Felicities quirks to his being a teacher. I heart me some Lucas. (And with a name like Lucas, I immediately pictured Lucas Black and that's the image that stayed.)
My biggest complaint about this series is that I want to know what happened in Vegas. (yes, yes, I know what happens in Vegas, blah blah.) I had hoped that this book would give us that final wrap up, where the girls come together once again and maybe introduce the guys to each other. It didn't. *sniff* On the other hand, that does leave us with an option for a follow up story. So, I am going to just keeping hoping and watching for a follow up. Because darn it, I need to know what happened in Vegas when all three of them meet back up.
I got this book through Netgalley for the book tour and gave this book a solid 4 stars.
This series is one of the most fast paced, cute, and interesting books I have read. The characters in this series are very memorable and you can actually imagine them being in your college and relate to them. The story is very believable and the characters are great. I love how they interact in this book and how there was this chemistry between the two main characters right away. The author did a great job by showing how felicity was was so self conscious about being around groups of people and how lucas helped her just be herself.
Felicity is a nerdy college student trying to have her last summer break before she starts working with her dad. Her friends have bailed, one broken down and the other is with her boyfriend. They both have told her to let loose and enjoy life. The author has done a great job by showing how she is this typical smart woman but can't interact with people. Its great to see how socially frustrated someone can get but works through it with her friends. I love how it is communicated throughout the book. Learning to maneuver through life is hard but even harder if you can't work through it unchallenged.
Lucas is a man that has to go wedding. A wedding that he has to deal with an ex that he wants nothing to do with. He hates flying and a chance encounter with a beautiful girl makes lucas think of a proposition that can help him out. Lucas is the typical good guy, a fixer, and a guy you want to take home to mom. He is so down to earth and it just makes him more desirable.
One man scared of heights, one woman with no social skills what could happen with a chance encounter like this? Well I can tell you a great, fast paced story that you will read in one setting.
Great story, great author, great series. I recommend this series to everyone. The author is great and I love how she tells a story.
Her Winning Formula is book #3 in the Hot & Nerdy Series here are links to my reviews for book #1 Her Best Shot and book #2 Her Perfect Game.
Her Winning Formula is by far my favourite book of the series, Felicity is the female Sheldon (aka The Big Bang Theory) she’s incredibly endearing and I instantly warmed to her and invested in her happily ever after.
I loved that she’s a massive geek who feels that she socially inept but I loved even more that she met her perfect match in Lucas and was completely oblivious to it lol!!!
This book is absolutely adorable; Lucas is such a sweetie he actually breaks down everything that Felicity doesn’t understand and makes it felicity proof!!
Lucas is a real keeper he’s that guy that is just too good to be true, so when he turns out to just genuinely be a really nice guy it makes him that much better.
I loved the connection between Lucas and Felicity they could just as easily have been best friends and I honestly felt that spark and comfort that made their relationship so effortless.
I was incredibly surprised that the sex was so hot!! I expected it to either be a bit awkward and cliché or there not to be any sexy times at all. How wrong was I!!! Felicity is a little wildcat in the sack and again I loved that she was just so unexpected!!
The biggest and only criticism I have about this book is that it was far too short!! I read it in about an hour and I would have been really happy for this to have been a much longer novel.
Overall all I still adored this story, the characters made me smile and the adorable romance made my heart all warm and fuzzy 4 stars!!
Three best friends were supposed to enjoy a final spring break vacation before they each divided and conquered their individual paths in adulthood. However, their plans did not work out, leaving Felicity Stone to her own devices.
Felicity is a chemistry major who has a formula worked out for her life, graduate Harvard and work at her fathers lab creating her own fragrance. However, when it comes to meeting people she is not a social butterfly.
While waiting on a plane to get to South Padre Island, Texas. She unexpectedly meets Lucas Tanner, who informs her not to leave her bag unattended, as he cannot be late arriving to his destination.
Lucas Tanner is an attractive special education teacher and baseball coach, who has a fear of planes during take off and landing. Lucky for him Felicity is sitting next to him. Felicity is not much of a conversationalist except with her two best friends, but with Lucas she finds it enjoyably easy.
When Lucas learns that Felicity's plans of meeting up with her friends did not work out he asks her to be his fake date to his brothers wedding to avoid his ex who happens to be the maid of honor from trying to reconcile.
Sometimes, the best times are not planned.
I LOVED THIS NOVELLA AND THIS TRILOGY!!! This novella was an enjoyable page turner! It has the feel of a favorite feel good film that you could watch over and over and not get tired of. I could read this trilogy several times more! Do NOT miss out on this trilogy and/or this novella!
While in route to her spring break destination Felicity meets Lucas. Since her plans have been changed and she's no longer meeting her best friends Charlie and Layla, Felicity decides to go along with Lucas' plan to have her play his girlfriend while he attends his brother's wedding. Not much of a hardship since he's gorgeous, she just has to remember that's she's just laying a part and keep her distance.
Lucas is drawn to Felicity's smarts and understated beauty. So having her playing his girlfriend for a few days sounds like a win-win situation for him. He gets to keep his ex-girlfriend at bay while spending time with a sexy, intriguing woman. But what he wasn't counting on were the emotions that would arise with spending time with Felicity.
I liked the premise behind the story and thought that the author did a great job in bringing something different to this popular trope. But what I couldn't get over was the insta-love scenario coupled with the lack of connection between the characters.
Usually I can overlook the insta-love in a story if the connection between the two individuals is firmly established on the page. However, that was not the case with Her Winning Formula. Yes, there was a connection between Felicity and Lucas, but it wasn't expanded upon. Although I enjoyed their interactions, I felt there was something missing--that essential 'thing'--needed to take their relationship to the next level.
Having said that, I did enjoyed getting to know the characters, the chemistry they shared and how the author went about bringing it all together in the end.
*I received a copy of this title in exchange of my honest opinion.
Smart girls rock! You're going to love this trio of smart girls. This time it is Felicity's turn!
They should have spend the spring break together, but certain things happened her two friends, and she was to spend her Spring Break alone if she won't come with the handsome stranger who was asking her to be his date at the wedding.
You are going to like Felicity. She's sweet, innocent, and knows how to do her equations. She's crazy intelligent in the field of chemistry and is working on making her own scent in her father's laboratory the moment she graduates from Harvard. She's a little shy and has problems in socializing with people.
Good thing Lucas has all the charms. He liked her the first moment he saw her, and despite the moratorium he has on dating, he couldn't help but to ask her to become his date, only that she asked something in return as well: teach her how to pick up guys. It didn't sit well with him. How can he teach her when all he wanted is her?
It's fast-paced, fun, sweet and with a sprinkle of steam, I'm sure you're going to love it as well.

I have to say I think this one is my fav out of the series. Here goes my review.
Felicity is the introvert out of the three girls. She's the scientist out of them and super aware of her faults. Although some wallow in their faults she prefers to deal with them and try to fix them. Ok she wallows a little but not much.. Lol I really liked Felicity because even through her faults she is sweet, accommodating, understanding, and more outgoing than she thinks. Hoping to have an awesome spring break with her girls is truly what she needed. After the girls have to bail, they tell her to have a great time without them. Can she truly let go and not let her past keep her from finding Mr. Right or Mr. Right Now?
Lucas is the dreamy sexy school teacher we all wish we had. I loved him from the start because he's friendly, quick witted, outgoing and family oriented. Going to his brothers wedding without a date is an opening for his ex that he's is not wanting to deal with. His trip seems to turn around once he lays eyes on a certain bombshell. Hopefully she will honor him as his date to keep the ex at bay. Lucas is truly the whole package but his past is what keeps him from getting what he really wants.
Shannyn did a great job with this series. Although they are shorts they were great and fun to read. This one was my favorite so five stars have been granted :)
Having read the other two novellas in this series, and enjoying them, I thought I'd give the final one a go. Just like the others, this was a fun, easy read that was a great break.
I like the overall story but, even though I knew it was a novella going into reading it, I still wished there was a little more. Just like the first book (Her Best Shot) I felt things moved a little too quickly sometimes and I was enjoying things too much that I couldn't help but want more from them. I wanted the author to give the characters more time to grow and develop a back story, or at least have some more scenes together at the wedding where they had to interact as a pretend couple. I liked Felicity and how she thought she was worse than she was, and I liked Lucas' personality. Don't take this the wrong way because what is there is intriguing and engaging. I like this author's style but I feel this book would have better just a few chapters longer as it ended all of a sudden.
Overall though, this is a quick romance and I knew what I was getting into when I requested it. I really enjoyed the lightheartedness of this series and they were all sweet romances. If you're looking for quick novellas, where the girls are cute and a little geeky, you may want to check these out.
Felicity was the only one to make it to their spring break destination. Nervous about being alone on spring break with no plans, she is fretting about spring break. She meets Lucas on the plane and he gives her a winning formula for spring break.
Lucas is a nervous flyer. Felicity is an introvert and has trouble making conversations. When the two sit near each other on the plane they find a winning formula. Lucas is able to draw Felicity out of her shell. Felicity makes Lucas forget about his fear of flying. But they will also find a partnership in their upcoming vacation that will make it much more enjoyable.
Lucas is attending his brother’s wedding. He does not want to deal with his ex while attending the wedding. When he meets Felicity on the plane, he has the perfect solution to both their problems.
These two have chemistry. The compliment each other in the perfect way.
I highly recommend this novella and The Hot & Nerdy trilogy. It will not disappoint.
Felicity is beyond smart but when it comes to interacting with others, shes pretty much socially inept. She was supposed to go on a vacation with her best friends but one got stranded and the other couldn't make it, shes at the location but with no one to spend it with. While on the plan with Lucas after some brief connection between the two he asks her as a favor in her being his "date" for a wedding reception to get an ex and family off his back. Little did they for things to heat up.
OK so out of the three I have to say that this book was my favorite in the series. I see so much of myself in Felicity and that made me love her character all the more. I loved the fun and steamy connection between the two. There was enough going on to keep things interesting, not much drama as I would've normally liked but that's still fine there was enough for me to not put the book down for like the hour or so it took me to read this book. Well written and enjoyable. I also really enjoyed the ending of the book getting the perspective of the previous girls in the other books. Overall a great book and great series I highly recommend you lovely readers to get the boxed set they really are fun to read.
Unique series concept ~ Great story AND series all around! Felicity is the last of three friends who meet certain delays in coming together for their Spring Break vacation. In this story, Felicity meets our hero on the plane :) cue our hero of the story, Lucas. It just so happens that Lucas needs a go-between at his brother's wedding he is on his way too so of course he asks the beautiful girl sitting next to him to do him this favor .... yea, LOL and when I say LOL, i MEAN LOL thru most of this book. You see, Felicity is a highly intelligent girl, but REALLY socially awkward ... so much so, that she asks Lucas to give her lessons on flirting and dating and whatnot **SNORT** OK, don't miss read this and think this is one of those insta love things after 3 days story because it really isn't. The story leads you to belive that some time in the future there WILL be a HEA, but it doesn't actually happen in the book. I find that refreshing and the best quality of this story. Made the story realistic therefor, more likeable! ARC provided by Kensington Books via NetGalley for an honest review.
Felicity may be a science whiz, but deep inside, she's a loner. She doesn't do well with crowds or meeting people. An introvert, actually. Luckily, she's been able to form alliance with two other geniuses like her, and with Layla and Charlie, she feels at ease and at home. Things started turning around when she finds herself alone for springbreak. Lucas, a man she meets for the first time in the airport, asks her to be his dinner date to his brother's wedding. Instead of sulking and thinking how to spend spring break without her friends, she agrees to Lucas' proposal and before she knows it, she's met his family and friends and his clingy ex-girlfriend, Becky.
Sparks fly in this hot & scorching romantic novel by Shannyn Schroeder. Her winning formula of creating a novel about hot & nerdy gals simply impressed me. I liked her other book, Her Perfect Game (with Charlie & Jonah) and this latest story about Felicity & Lucas, who really got great chemistry going on, is surely going to be another successful feat! I could fairly say that I got hooked on this series and I admire Shannyn Schroeder's impeccable writing.
Out of the whole Hot & Nerdy series Her Winning Formula is by far my favorite. I was easily able to relate to Felicity, much more then I was able to with Charlie or Layla. In my personal opinion I loved the ending to this one the most, the other two books ended in a similar matter that this one didn't.
Lucas is also my favorite male character from the whole series. There was something about him that drew me to his character more then the others. But the story short, leaving me hungry to know more about Lucas and Felicity. I felt that the first two books were a bit rushed in certain parts, but Her Winning Formula flowed smoothly at a pace that kept you reading.
Felicity, Charlie, and Layla's friendship is something I hope to have with my friends have in the future. Overall I really enjoyed the Hot & Nerdy series. They were short, easy reads that where perfect for a rainy day.
