What do you find at the end of a dead-end road? I guess that depends where you’re going.
All the roads I’ve traveled since I discovered magic have led to one place. Here I stand at the end, staring into a pit so dark it shouldn’t exist. At least I’m not alone. At least I have true allies and loyal friends, which is more than I ever expected. The only question remaining - can we win or will everything I’ve sacrificed have been for nothing?
This is not the last book in the Call of the Elements series, but it does finalize the trials AJ endured in the first five books. Don’t miss out on the exciting conclusion to AJ’s first jaunt into the world of magic. Stay tuned for round two.
I love to read almost any genre. While the most popular authors continue to thoroughly entertain us, I've found some of my favorite series have come from new authors. My all-time favorite has to be Ben Hale's, Chronicles of Lumineia, along with all the side stories that go with it. A very close second is Michael Manning's, Mageborn Series. I've found several gems within some of the Anthologies I've purchased. One of these introduced me to Michael Ploof's, Whill of Agora Series, which kept me reading for weeks. Of course, I'll always enjoy one of Robert Jordan's new releases or a re-read of Elizabeth Peter's, Amelia Peabody Series. But it thrills my reading soul to find a new and interesting twist, such as Kel Kade's, King's Dark Tidings or Donna Augustine's, Karma Series.
AJ, or Alisandra the Goddess, is at it again. Or still at it, since this is just more of the same saga. The finale, in fact. A few huge horrible demons, a whole horde of lesser ones – facing humans or other fae and similar assorted magical people would have been ever so much easier. Of course, it helps to have a dragon on your side. If he is; he’s not exactly the friendly sort. He can absolutely be depended on to keep his word, but he’s very punctilious. If there’s a loophole there, he’ll fly right through it and roast your ass. He’s just essential to winning the battle, while he’s on her side.
And Braden gave up his soul to keep his people. It doesn’t sound like it’s all that big a thing; vampires don’t have souls, so his was rather anomalous. It was, however, the only thing that let him love AJ, and when Dusha, AJ’s spirit elemental, took the soul, Braden asked him to take Braden’s memories of AJ as well. AJ doesn’t have that sort of out, unfortunately. She remembers all of it.
The final battle – Oh, what a gory sight. Having to walk across the bodies of your allies and friends in the course of the battle – could it be more horrible? How many of AJ’s close friends, how many of her fellow Dionadair lie among all of the bodies? How can she function if she gives herself over to such thoughts?
I loved it. No, I’m not going to give any specifics about who lives and who dies. A lot of people die. Some don’t. Some come closer to cashing their chips than others. You want to know more, read the book. If you haven’t read any of the earlier ones, read the whole series. It’s well worth the investment, both of money and time. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Elves! Dragons! Sorry – I get a little excited when reading about my favourite types of characters. But they do not follow the typical stereotype – this author has made them her own creations. Poor AJ never seems to get a break. Her life shifts again and there is more adversity for her to face. The story takes another step to the left. Where most books that I have read that do this feel disjointed, this author does a great job of making it flow. It feels like a natural transition instead of a jump. It’s hard to remember that just a few months previous (in AJs life, back in book 1) she was nobody special. I will have to go back to the start again when the series has finished. All of the different parts of her life join together in this book in a well thought out and well execute story. I can’t wait for book 7!
I was lucky enough to get hold of an ARC, but if I hadn’t, I would definitely have purchased this.
AJ can’t seem to get a break; the elementals manipulated her life and love only to have them taken away. She is broken but still keeps going. With the help of friends – old and new, elemental help, new allies and a dragon, she is getting ready for the fight of her life. She just keeps going against all odds, it’s impressive. And somehow she seems to make friends of people who start out against her. There is action, some humour (from the elementals and her fellow bitches), magic, supernatural beings, massive battles against huge odds. This book neatly ends the cycle built up in the previous 5 books but leaves so much more to be done. I have loved this series and hope new adventures arrive soon. Highly recommend.
I have so enjoyed this magical series. AJ, or should we say Alisandra Rosewynn Queen of the mages, princess of the Woodland Fae, member of the Diondair and keeper of Earths magic, has gone from a lost teenager into a fierce woman. I was enchanted by the fae, elves and vampires, I was gripped by AJ’s battles and I loved the ending. What more can I add except to mention Lodron who is handsome, sexy and patient, a real dream. Hats off to the author for a great series.
I continue to love this series! AJ seems to truly be growing up. This book introduces some cool new characters and magical races. The worldbuilding here is top notch.
I really do love these characters and am looking forward to reading more about them!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Each book in this series is getting more and more intense, and we are rapidly coming to an end. One of the things about this series that I don’t like, and it’s only a matter of preference, not anything the author’s done, and that’s poor AJ’s love life. I keep rooting for the one she loses. LOL! Anyway, this latest is really the end of the ARC of one thing, but it does leave open some threads for the next book, which I am so excited about. This is a well-written, interesting universe, and I can’t wait to read the next book. Highly recommend.
Each book in this series gets better and better. The various characters come alive with each book. I'm excited to see more as it keeps you wanting more.
This in book 6 and the final book in this story arc. AJ has just learned she will have to share her fate with and help pick at least 4 more "Dionadair". She must also find and make more allies in the war against the dark fae atthe same time. So she travels to the Elven kingdom to speak with their king and ask for their support. She is also introduced to a character who was quite the surprise!! This is another book that I have read that has so much going on, it is difficult to write a summary without saying too much! After finding the new Dionadair, the action never really stops. AJ and the others are constantly thrust into battles. The Dark Fae are constantly testing their barriers and strength. AJ never backs down and gives more of herself than she ever knew she had. I love her character growth throughout the entire series! In such a short span of time, she has been through so much. She has been forced to confront things she never imagined both physically and mentally. And the losses she has endured still haunt her. But she never lets any of that stop her. She may complain (who wouldn't!), but she still does what is necessary to save the Fae realm. And I have actually come to like Lodron. I was hesitant with his character in the previous book, worried he had ulterior motives, but he has really come through for AJ! He is exactly what she needs, even when she doesn't realize it. I have enjoyed the changes we have seen in him as well. We get to meet some new characters in this book as well. There are elves, trolls, goblins and more. All the supernatural beings are finally coming together to try to stop Sabina and the Dark Fae. But, of course, there are many surprises along the way! This was a wonderful way to end this story arc with a HFN ending that leaves it open for more books!
This sixth book in Yvette Bostic’s Call of the Elements series was everything I didn’t know I needed! “Deception’s Fall” is the continuation of AJ’s story, and it was absolutely epic.
Like always, there were a lot of complex politics happening throughout the book, but it was so well-done that it never felt like I was being given too much information.
AJ has truly overcome so much in her short time amongst the supernatural. She’s strong and powerful, but she doesn’t let it go to her head. She’s a very compassionate person, and I loved that about her.
I’m also really loving Lodron! When he was first introduced, I had no idea he was going to be this important, but now that he has, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
As for that cliffhanger of an ending… I’m really exited to find out about what will happen next for AJ and her allies, but that excitement is mixed with a healthy dose of fear. This was absolutely a 5 star read for me!
Another thrilling installment to this magical series! AJ has plenty on her plate, dealing with Neonache, her duty of being a Dionaire for the Elemental Council and training the new recruits, and meeting the Elves. AJ is still a pawn for both sides as traitors reveal themselves. Can she trust the elves to aid them in their battle against the demon witch that has a few surprises ready to spring? I highly recommend this one and can't wait for the next one!
This story is my favorite so far! Everything about the book made it simply amazing 👏 🙌 AJ shows some tremendous growth, and the compassion and empathy she displays is purely beautiful.
The author created a magical tale involving fae and elementals. It was so easy to get lost in and obsess over this world 😍✨️ There's a lot of underlying messages displayed throughout this writing, which is always such a good touch to a story. I'm definitely reading the next book asap!
Thanks so much to the author and LiteraryInspiredARCs for the ARC!
AJ never ceases to amaze me. She has all this power at her fingertips but zero ego. She credits others for their part, always. She never takes credit. In her eyes, she isn't the one doing anything, it's just her Elementals working through her.
So much happens in this book. Thankfully AJ isn't put through any more heartache. Not yet at least, who knows with the next book. She manages to get all the magical races together, an impossible feat. Yeah, I really love this series.
And still Aj can’t get a break, was discovering her magical side really all that worth it? the elementals manipulated her life and love only to have them taken away.
Can she keep going while being heart broken?
The author has made them her own creations. Aj is getting ready to battle them with help from old and new friends new allies and a dragon, she is getting ready for the fight of her life.
The blend of Earth and the Fae kingdom gave the story a really wide scope, but I was never confused. Our reluctant hero, AJ, gives in to her greatness and kicks ass again. What I like about these books is the compassion AJ has and the internal nature of the lessons she learns.
I thought the previous stories were full of magical creatures but we get to meet even more in this book! AJ and her new team are kicking ads and taking no names. Lodron is a hunk of a green flag, his support makes me swoon and kick my feet.
The final showdown is coming and it's gonna be messy.
I love how this book has built on the elementals and reconnecting and working together with all sentient beings from the far, shifters, vampires and mages and the need to work together to overcome obstacles. The principle idea of light over dark.
