Sayer Hayes sure thinks so. At thirty-five, Sayer is one of Silias County’s best firefighters, and looking at him, you can’t help but think of calendars that may stay on one month all year long, depending on the month. Single, gorgeous, and determined, Sayer has it bad for his new neighbor. However, for all his calendar-worthy attributes, she barely even looks at him, and Sayer’s patience is running out.
Is age really nothing but a number? Monroe Stewart doesn’t think so. Knocking on forty’s door, Monroe is one of Silias County’s building inspectors, and looking at her, you’d think she had her life together. She’s a homeowner, for Christ’s sake. Divorced, tired, and dealing with a teenage daughter and idiot ex-husband, Monroe doesn’t have time to lust over her younger, sexy, and gorgeous neighbor, no matter how many times he washes his car shirtless. When Sayer overhears Monroe’s ex-husband accuse her of still pining over him, Sayer steps in and lies his ass off, hoping to salvage Monroe’s pride. Monroe lets the lie play out, and that’s all Sayer needs to get his foot in the door.
Between a douchebag ex-husband, a temperamental teenage daughter, a conniving co-worker, a matchmaking best friend, two idiot brothers, a station full of firefighters, a nosey neighbor, and a wedding-planning fireman whose determination rivals Stalin, Sayer and Monroe have their work cut out for them. Together, they do their best to tip-toe around the landmines called life. But even if it does all blow up in their faces, being blown to bits and pieces never felt so good.
There's not much to add to my bio, I'm pretty boring...LOL. My favorite thing is to read and, last year, I decided to trade in some of those reading hours and try my hand at writing. The experience has been one of the best things I could have ever embarked upon. It's turned into a hobby that is fun and thoroughly enjoyable. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm spending time with my family or friends.
This is my 2nd book by this author. I tried again to like the book more, but I just couldn't 😂💔.
*reverse age gap 🫶 35 H / 39 h
*he was fine, quite insistent and obsessed; of course, he messed up a few times, but nothing extreme and well, at least one time it wasn't his fault at all; some apologies are done in the end
*I liked her overall. She was insecure and put her foot in her mouth a few times, but I get why, her ex has done a number on her
*I couldn't stand his brothers and the discussions around their mother; she wasn't cute, she's overbearing and I would run away from a man with such a mother (she had no freaking boundaries)
* That ex of hers was something else; such an annoying character, loathing all the drama with his narcissistic behavior
* At least the FMC's daughter was cute and a typical teenager, despite her anger against her father, which was absolutely valid
* The entire charade with his firefighters colleagues planning the wedding wasn't realistic, was funny for about two paragraphs, and in the end just made me roll my eyes; who does that? Again, no boundaries!! 🙄
* The OW drama was a soap opera level type of petty drama; sometimes, I enjoy this type of drama; now I haven't
In the end, I enjoyed some parts, but I often found myself annoyed at the situations, the characters, etc.
The end was cute (I wanted a more extended epilogue, though, but since the next books are with his brothers, I assume this couple will also appear/be mentioned).
This being said, I'm pretty sure I will not continue this series. Bummer!
The couple are attracted to each other but the heroine is 5 years older, nearly 40, divorced and has a teenage daughter and the Hero is trying to hard to get her attention. Ex drama from heroine. Other woman drama for Hero, a coworker causes issues. Hero has no interest in anyone. Heroine has been divorced for 3 years, there has been noone since her ex. The Hero says he hasn't been in a serious relationship for some time, he's dated but no details and he's looking for love and a family. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine but another woman kiss's the Hero to cause problems, the Hero had just out her in her place and he does so more firmly after the kiss. A bit OTT. HEA. I thought it ended a bit abruptly.

Her ex had discarded her like garbage. The sexy younger new neighbor and fireman pines for her yet she remains clueless until he intervenes in an altercation w loser ex.Cute, sexy w a dollop of angst ,ow drama and juvenile exploits of a re-invigorated ex...spouse
It's a quick and easy read about a woman moving on from her divorce and the sexy fireman who helps her. Add in a small age gap, a bratty teen and a stupid ex and we have a quick summer read.
So, why did I give it a low rating? Sayers parts did not feel authentic. The firemen giggling and planning weddings and sending out invites, the brothers calling and pulling his leg. The scenes were too cheesy. I cringed and skipped most of them.
Sex scenes were hot and our hero was super j/p❤️❤️❤️ I did not care for the heroine. She just did not seem to love him as much as he loved her. She was all about “I’m happy now”, “My daughter is all I need”, I’m woman....hear me scream🤨😞😩. I get it already...you love your daughter and can be happy without a man. Couldn’t you have shown a little more love for the man who was utterly obsessed with you?
Definitely better than some books I have read this year. Things were moving a little bit too fast for me, but a nice book non the less. Very interesting concept, so addictive I read it in one sitting.
[1.25 star] don't really like the book, it was a little superficial, not enough depth. the hero was okay, i like him. but the heroine felt too awkward for me especially for her age, it's like she have never seen hot men before (maybe it's just me that feels that way). some grammar and spelling mistakes as well which i'm lazy to name.

This story was great. The author is new to me, but she was honest that she isn't a seasoned or full time writer. I liked knowing that as I read her story. Where there a few grammatical errors? Yes, but she explained, shes self published and I think as far as efforts go, she did a fantastic job telling her story. The characters were well written. I loved who I was supposed to love, disliked who I was supposed to dislike and I swooned all over the place. The heat is on high in this story, but I really enjoyed it and didn't once think it was over done. I don't know how many books this author has written, but I'm going to be following her. I don't want to miss anything else she writes.
I love this author! Ever since i stumble open Facing the Enemy i read all her other book. Not finish yet but im on progress! super fast!
Now this book i rate 4 star bcause i love everything in it. Not one of the best from the author but its really good.
Now. My problem tho, is the second book in this series. SPOILER AHEAD.
I cant find the book here for me to leave my review. So i leave it here to calm my emotion :") The problem with sport. I hate it! Start good but end horribly!! I hate Andrea with passion!! The book should be title The Problem with Andrea instead. She is selfish ,only care about herself n her own insecurity. She said it as if she care about her son but the child just cool with it. Its her who failed to understand the kid. She cant even be bother to take interest in what the child love to even have a conversation about sports n just change subject everytime without caring how her son might feel. Then suddenly when it come to her dating life she act as if her son is her first priority when the kid been rlly happy. She is using him as her sorry excuse when its actually herself who is insecure.
She rage when nathan belittle what she feels n what she wants . but how about her ??? She is clearly hurting him didnt care what he feel dont even respect his feeling for her too. Nathan the one who really care about Grant , he dont even wanna lie to the kid he respect the kid . But she throw his love like a dirt n be disgusted at him like.. are u kidding me ??? Nathan is at wrong too but i cant with andrea attitude n hypocrisy . and she is a coward using her son like that. If she really care about her son at least pay attention to what he love in life dont just avoid it n she is insulting her own child inteligence. Andrea is so self entitle i never hate a main character as much -.- It is not okay for anybody man or woman ,to behave like that.
Maybe its me who cant see her point of view mybe some will say she rlly care about her son its not herself. but from my pov she is selfish, coward n using her son as a shield for her excuse, for her insecurity.

Monroe Stewart thought she’d her life figured out. Married to her husband for 14 years, a sweet little girl as a daughter and a job she loved, Monroe’s life seemed pretty perfect. Until Thomas decided he wasn’t happy anymore and her world turned upside down.
Now Monroe is trying to rebuild her life. Get used to her singleness, trying to juggle the back and forward of joined custody and a moody teenager while trying to maintain a friendly relationship with her ass of a ex husband. And I’m using ass loosely... that guy is the most egocentric, self centered, obnoxious,... of a man!
“the one thing I had resented the most was how Thomas hadn’t given us a chance at all. Instead of coming to me when he had first started feeling the signs of unhappiness, he had sat on his feelings until he had no longer felt anything for me”
“A good father doesn’t tear apart his child’s family. He doesn’t destroy his child’s home because he’s having a goddamn mid-life crisis, Mom.”
The trope in this book is that Monroe is older than Sayer. I don’t normally care about age differences, tbh. But in this case the age difference is just 3 years. It’s barely worth of mentioning.
This was my first time reading this author. I liked her writing style and tho the book would benefit from proof reading it’s not major or big enough to be annoying.
Older woman to younger man, ok ok; there is only 3 yrs in between them. Monroe is a divorce with a Jack as s for ex husband along with teenage daughter. Sayer is a firefighter for the county with an athletic body with no children or ex wives. Monroe and Sayer are neighbors who fight the attraction until it happens. When it does happen it explodes, but will it last. This was totally different and loved the storyline. Highly recommended for the mature audiences to read.
There is a fine line between an alpha male and a toxic ass. Sayer falls into the latter category. He's practically been stalking Monroe since she moved in. Laying a claim he had no right to lay, then falls into "love" after three days when it really was obsession.
Monroe is supposed to be 39 and Sayer is 35 but they are incredibly immature - especially Sayer - and this book read more like a YA/NA story. Sayer's coworkers are more like jr high boys.
One reviewer said it best: Juvenile adults and a mature teenager.
An instant love story that keeps you laughing throughout it
I enjoyed the characters the author put a good twist on each and everyone of them. Well not really a twist she actually brought out feelings that many people probably have but don't express. I've been wondering if the older lady younger guy worked and why and this story answers that. Want you to start you can't put this book down. This book is an answer to beating off stress of the everyday depressing lives of news, everyone needs to laugh.
This is such a fun read and hot!! Sayer is the consummate alpha firefighter! He has strong values with a clear sense of right and wrong. Monroe has redesigned her life and her daughter's after an unexpected divorce. She is kind, a good mother and gun shy a out her attractiveness to men, especially Sayer her neighbor. The whys and how they get together is a must read book. Enjoy!!!
She wasn't kidding about the misspelled words in the book, but that all comes with experience! Overall, a great story and a sexy fireman to boot! Did you check out that guy on the cover of the book? YUMMY! Not for the faint of heart, and a lot of (4) four letter words! Give the gal a chance. Check out "The Problem with Fire" today and find a new favorite author today!
The heroine allows her ex to divorce her with no discussion. Three years later she's doing well and so is their daughter. The H is a few years younger and wants her, she's attracted but unsure. I liked the bullying from her ex, but wanted the H to be stronger. It was a quick enjoyable read, thought the H was weaker than the heroine.
So while I say older woman, it’s only 4.5 years and really, that’s nothing. The OM was the ex and he was well-written as a narcissistic jerk. Very fun to be “Team Sayer”. I thought the brothers should have been more involved with the book as their short part was very entertaining. And I’m in love with Jake.
I love your writing, your stories, and your cover art. If I offered to edit your stories before you publish them, I hope you wouldn't be offended. There are enough grammatical errors to make it difficult to read because I am also an avid reader, but grammatical errors always stop me. I would do it for free.
This book is SO fun! It's light-hearted without being silly, steamy but with a good story, and even some of the character motivations are more straightforward than complex, they are handled so well that they don't become irtitating tropes. Loved it!
This is a quick, fire read! I love this author and her sassy lead heroines and all Alpha, can't live without you, heros! I like this book especially because it was about a woman approaching 40. They need love too!
Ha done pretty good parts and I liked Sayer's character. One of the only downsides is that jt kinda finished abruptly... and was wanting to see where their new relationship went.
I liked this book. I thought it was cute but felt at the same time it was a super-fast read. I thought it was also a little light-hearted and even a little silly. I did want more at the ending of the book and would like to have seen what happened between Sayer and Monroe. The characters where fun and so was the story, it just left me wanting more out of it. The spicy scenes were good as well and left me wanting a little from them as well. It says that there was age-gap but in my opinion 5 years difference isn't really that much of a gap. I was expecting the age gap to be a huge difference. Overall, not a bad book nor a first book to a series.
I loved Monroe and Sayer, but Jake is the best of the book. I need to know his wedding planning availability. I'm not getting married, just for science.
If you want a hot older woman younger man, read this. If you need good comic relief, stay for Jake
This was short and sweet for sure. I absolutely love M.E. Clayton’s books !!! Her character’s are always relatable and I love the humor that is mixed in with most of the books I have read so far.
