Living on the Plain: The Gospel of Luke

Rate this book
A devotional guide following the Gospel of Luke, for individuals, small group study, or sermon preparation.

The Gospel of Luke is relevant for today's Christian seeking insights on prayer, common humanity, communal equality, and stewardship. Angels, genealogies, miracles, and parables are rendered accessible, and transformed from skimming material to the real heart of the Gospel. This transformation is an invitation for refining one's faith.

In a day-by-day, story-by-story format, Living on the Plain re-tells the Christian journey through fifty-eight reflections for reading the Gospel of Luke that can be used as a daily devotion for personal or group Bible study at any time of the year.

A fresh look at the Gospel of Luke. Divided into 58 short chapters so it's easy to use for Bible study groups or personal reflection. Each chapter cites the verses of Luke that are discussed, but they are not printed in the book.

The author believes in starting conversations with Bible stories - he talks about the history of Jesus' time and how the disciples might have reacted, and ways we can understand what Jesus meant, finishing with questions about how we can apply these teachings to our daily life. An engaging and easy to read interpretation for everyone, inspiring us on our faith journey.

Exceptional. I would love to hear Father Stone preach! He has you thinking about familiar gospel stories in a new way. And I look forward to hearing them on Sunday as we read Like this year in church.
