Writing a dating profile would force me to come to terms with the fact that I’d officially become one of those people who had to say, “It’s complicated.” And maybe that wasn’t entirely correct; I had come to terms with everything, but I doubted a man would touch my baggage with a ten-foot pole, much less his own approximately seven-inch one.
It didn’t matter. I didn’t want any kind of pole near my complicated mess. I was finally happy on my own. In fact, I was rocking this whole divorce thing. I was free. My ex-husband and I had a good thing going on. We remained close, we raised our rambunctious son and our hormonal daughter together, and I’d just moved into my dream house.
I was going to cruise through the rest of my forties with a glass of wine in my hand and no one to answer to.
No, the dating market could wait. I had work, I had my kids, I had my health. I had an ex-husband who’d just gotten engaged to another man, an ex-husband who was telling me that Mason, his older brother, was moving back to town. On my street, to boot.
Now, that was a pole I shouldn’t be thinking about.
I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
Fall by Winter Is Lissa's story. She's the ex-wife of William Calvert, from When Forever Ended. I felt a little bad for her, in that book, because she's really a good person and though she and William needed to divorce, she didn't deserve to be hurt. I'm glad she finds happiness and someone that gives her amazing orgasms. That said person (Mason) also happens to be William's brother is just cake.
Mason came on strong. He was not subtle, and he apparently had been harboring feelings for Lissa for some time. Feelings he would never act on while they were both married. And at 47, he's done waiting. It's time to see if their chemistry is as amazing as he thinks it will be.
Lissa's finally finding her feet again, after being married for 20 years and raising a family. Two years divorced and she's finally happy again. Happy with herself and her life. She and William are friends again and Brady and Rory are amazing kids. Lissa wasn't in the market for a new relationship, but with Mason, she just can't help it. The heart wants what it wants, and the orgasms don't hurt, either.
Fall by Winter is pretty drama and angst free, all things considered. Both MC's are in their 40's and know what they want. There's a lot of focus on family and what family means and I kind of love their family.
It's always good to visit Camassia Cove -- my favorite vacation destination. :)
This was a bit insta, with heavier emphasis on family than the romance. But it was a great family. I loved seeing William and Kelly from When Forever Ended, and hearing about the guys/kids from If We Could Go Back. I also love that the MCs were in their 40s.
This a sweet novella for the Camassia completists.
Liss, William's wife from When Forever Ended gets her own. Two years after the divorce she is finding his legs in the single life and a navigating a way to deal with William & Kelly. She didn't plan for Mason, William's brother, coming back to town. For her. (If I'm not mistaken this development might've been teased at at the end of WFE)
As usual we get to hear and hang out with other denizens of Camassia. ❤️❤️
Still on my CCU binge read and I’m glad I get to see William and Kelly from “When Forever Ended” in Lissa and Mason’s story. Perfect second chance romance and great secondary characters as always. The title is so cleverly right for their story, love it.
Only Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe broke my MM books diet so far. This is the third one on the list after “Path of Destruction” and “Inappropriately Yours”, there’s still “Dirty Chef”, “Her All Along” and “Three Dirty Harts” all within the CCU. The rest are all MM (Thank God!). Next is a revisit with Zach and Henry in “Out for the Holidays”.
The story of William's ex-wife Lissa and his older brother Mason... I've been looking forward to this ever since I read William and Kelly's book. Although everything seems to have happened very quickly, considering the emotions that Mason has been hiding inside for years, it didn't seem very unnatural. Delightful second chance romance and perfect secondary characters as always... But I need Aurora's book ASAP!!!
“I see what it’s like out there. Everybody’s looking for perfection.” “You’re wrong,” he replied. “Everybody’s looking for acceptance, and they try to find it by acting perfect.”
I adore how Mason and Lissa are two people in their 40s, starting again after divorce. They’re totally down to earth and rocked the whole relationship/blended family twists with a low key, very little drama allowed vibe.
Cara Dee is amazing. Definitely read her stuff if you haven’t done so✌️
Lissa’s ex-husband is comfortably settled with his boyfriend, they have their shared parenting routine down pat, and Lissa’s life seems fine. Then her ex-husband’s older brother shows up, and he wants her. This seems like a perfect recipe for a lot of angst and fireworks, but that’s not what happens at all. Instead, everyone is well-adjusted and awesomely mature the whole way through. My drama-loving heart would have been seriously disappointed, but there’s something deeply refreshing about the open communication and emotional honesty practiced by all the characters. Using Lissa as a first person narrator was a great choice on the author’s part here, because it allows readers to experience all of the internal emotional turmoil and effort beneath the confident surface the character projects. You get the sense, as a reader, that Lissa has really earned her shiny, drama-free happily ever after, and it’s hard not to be happy for her. The book is well written, the characters are complex and nuanced, and there’s a fair amount of steam as well. Highly recommended.

This was told from the point of view of 40 something year old Lis. That was strange for me. I kept feeling like I should like this a lot more than I did. The story was good. I’m glad this was a novella. If it were any longer, I think I would’ve abandoned it.
As always, Cara’s writing was excellent. I think it was more a case of ‘it’s not you, it’s me’. The best thing about this book was how it set up the secondary characters for books of their own. Camassia Cove is a special fictional place. It’s like a home within a book.
This was a sweet and quick read. It was kinda insta-lovish but I didn’t really mind. We got to see more of Will and Kelly and their kids from When Forever Ended.
I loved Lissa and Will friendship. They had been married for twenty years so it was nice that they didn’t want to throw all of that away.
There wasn’t really anything that memorable about this book I just enjoyed it.
I hope we get a book about Aurora and Matt in the near future because with the pregnancy and everything!! Like give me more.
Cara is my favorite MM author, and I've been slowly reading my way through her MF books. This one was a novella featuring the ex-wife (and brother) from William & Kelly's book. Since it was a novella, it was definitely pretty insta-love, and we didn't really get to know the characters as well. That's why I don't love novellas. Cara writes the best characters who feel very real, but it's almost impossible to have that with a novella.
References of placing mobiles in underwear distracted me at times, since this is a dangerous practice. Writers should be more aware and educated that they’re promoting a dangerous habit.
‘Aurora handed me my phone. It went into my coat. Later, I’d put it in my bra’.
...
‘“No purse for me. I have my phone right here.” I pointed to the side of my boob. The phone was tucked into my bra, right underneath the strap’.
...
‘“Then I not-so-smoothly pulled my phone out from my bra, causing Mason to let out a laugh”.
... ‘I puckered my lips playfully before I tucked my phone back into my bra’.
Mobiles in bras It is well documented that carrying a mobile phone on your body (i.e. pocket or tucked in a bra) puts you at risk from harmful mobile phone radiation leading to infertility and a higher incidence of birth defects.
For women especially, carrying a mobile phone in the bra or bra strap has been linked with the development of breast cancer. Many highly ranked Mammography Centres display advisements, cautioning women on the hazards of carrying a mobile device in a brassiere, undergarment or close to the skin.
The World Health Organization has classified mobile phones (and any wireless devices that use microwaves to communicate) as a group 2B risk − which means that they are “possibly carcinogenic to humans.” Many experts believe evidence is already strong enough to classify mobile phones as definite cancer causers.
Please advocate to educate women against this practice in an effort to extend lives. ———————————————————————
Their daughter, Aurora simplifies their new reality:
“Mom and Dad used to drive in the same lane, but now the road was bigger, and it had three lanes. One for Mom, one for Dad, and one in the middle where he and I, and our kids, could drive together. Where we could check in with one another. A lane that still belonged to our family—“I like seeing you in the middle lane, but stay there. There’s nothing you can do about anything that happens in my lane.”
Aurora was as selectively observant as her father. They could pick up the slightest shift in someone’s mood, but if someone painted the world purple, they’d be none the wiser. Sharon is Lissa’s friend, she had a husband and three sons. If she wanted her family to notice something new, she had to draw a map.
Characters:::
William and Lissa are parents to Brady and Aurora William and Kelly are a couple (Matt is Kelly’s son) Mason is William’s brother (father to Tristan); he escaped Camassia Cove to escape his parents, now that he’s divorcing his second wife and about to become a grandfather, he’s moving back.
Lissa has always seen the sweet side of her in-laws, until William admitted his sexual orientation/preference. They refused to accept that he was now with a man, and since then she hadn’t spoken to them.
The irony of Mason, he moved to Phoenix to escape his parents, they moved to Phoenix after they retired, to be closer to Mason and he’s moving back to Cassamia to be closer to his son.
Mason had been with his second wife—and he had Tristan in high school. Mason’s son Tristan is twenty-three and an expectant father.
Matt, Kelly’s son, was instrumental in easing the awkwardness between Kelly and Lissa. They would never be best friends but they each wanted to get along. And seeing as Brady and Matt viewed each other as brothers, she’d made an effort to include Matt more, especially when her son asked his whipped mother to send him back to college with home-cooked meals and cookies. Aurora didn’t view Matt as a brother…she had a crush.
Mason is forty-seven to Lissa’s forty-two. After twenty years of marriage, ten of them spent with William battling depression, his childhood love returned to town and he announced he wanted a divorce.
This a family that all uses the f-word freely as a noun, an adjective and a verb.
Lissa is in her early forties a mother of two, and divorced after a twenty year marriage ended. Recently settled into her new home, she has her career and her kids to keep her busy, although Brady is twenty now and in college and Aurora is fifteen and splits her time between Lissa's and William's homes. She has remained friends with her ex husband William, they spent a lifetime together, even though the divorce was a shock. Lissa is surprised to hear from William that his brother Mason is looking to settle back in the area and that Mason has recently divorced his second wife, especially as she recently had a spa break and bumped into Mason, in fact they had spent four hours together eating and chatting...and he'd said nothing about it. When Mason arrives in town he sees Lissa whilst she is out for the evening at a local bar with her friend Sharon, they end up spending most of the evening together. Lissa is confused as she thinks Mason is flirting with her, and she's definitely feeling an attraction to him..but he's her brother in law and the kids uncle! I loved this book, how all the different relationships interact with each other and the love that's there. This is a fantastic read, I could not put it down.
This could have been a book that went heavy on the drama but it didn't and I was glad. I haven't read any of the previous books with these characters and whilst I enjoyed it and found it easy to follow without them I am intruiged by them and will be checking them out. Lissa is a divorced mother of two she who has a good relationship with her ex husband. When Mason her ex brother-in-law moves back to town and set his sights on Lissa this could have been precitably angst driven but it wasn't. I liked that the characters were more mature and living full active lives. It was refreshing to read characters who actually communuicate like adults and we see blended families co-parenting. It wasn't always easy and I liked that the author showed the real situations than can develop and how families deal with them. I enjoyed the way the romance between Mason and Lissa was written, it was pitched perfectly. I enjoyed the family aspect of the story as much as the romantic one.
In this book Lissa the ex-wife of William (from When Forever Ended) finds her second change love, ironically it is with Mason, William's older brother. I love the way Cara is 'real' with her characters and gives them flaws. After taking care of William for the last 10 years of their marriage, Lissa doesn't want to fall in love again, she believes that the relationship she has with her ex-husband will not be accepted by anyone, so why try. Then life throws her a curve ball in the form of William's older from Mason moving back to town, and newly divorced. Lissa still believes that this 'thing' between the 2 of them is just going to be casual, but of course we know that Cara is going to have them fall in love.
You will fall in love with them and also get an update on the rest of the family.

It is so good to go back to Camassia Cove! Lissa is a divorced parent of 2 who has a healthy friendship with her ex husband and his male fiancé. Mason is Lissa's ex brother in law and he decides to return home to Camassia Cove and he is coming for her.
This mature love story was 100% enjoyable and addicting. Mason was not shy in his desire or pursuit of Lissa and it was HOT! I love a story about love in a person's second act and this one was done extremely well. We also got to get to know Lissa's children and I can't wait for this story.
This book was very contemporary and lacking in taboo for a Cara Dee book, but it still had all the heart and steamy scenes. This would be a great book to recommend for a first time Cara Dee reader, it will give them a taste of her awesomeness without scaring them off.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily give my review.
Lissa's husband left her for his first love, a man whom he loved since they were young. But being guy was not accepted by his parents so he tried making a life with her. After 2 kids and twenty years of marriage he was done pretending and so was she but the ended up staying good friends and co parents. Just when she was settled in her new life and decided she was satisfied being on her own Mason moved back to town. But he was her ex brother in law so anything between them would be out of bounds. But with him pursuing her and them having this crazy chemistry may they have a chance. I loved the story, especially with the older characters, they're relatable with the imperfections of people who has already lived and loved. A very enjoyable, easy read.

As with any Cara Dee book, once I started reading Fall By Winter, I couldn't put it down!
I wanted to reread the story we first met Lissa in, but I didn't get around to it and I jumped in almost blind, however it really didn't matter. Mason and Lissa and their sizzling chemistry just burned right through the pages. The way he pursued her and they really communicated, something we don't see enough of in a lot of book relationships, drew me in and kept me hanging on his every word.
I loved everything about this book from the first word to the last, but that's never a surprise with a Cara Dee novel.
What a wonderful trip back into Cammassia Cove (which I still can't believe isn't a real place, fyi. I need to go there) meeting new faces and seeing old ones, too.
I love the Camassia world and it was so good getting visit some of it’s residents again. This is Lissa’s story. Lissa is the ex-wife of William from When Forever Ended.
Lissa is at a point in her life where she can finally focus on herself. With two grown up children, a great relationship with the ex and a new house, she is ready to get her life back on track.
Enter Mason. Mason is non other than Williams brother. He has always felt an immense connection to Lissa but for obvious reasons, it was never the right time. Until now.
Fall by Winter is drama free and is a quick and easy and enjoyable read. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Cara’s books and this one was no different.
Starting over later later in life is a scary proposition, but Lissa Calvert is just coming into her own. After a life altering couple of years she's friends with her ex and his partner. Her gorgeous brother in law moves to town and the sparks they always felt resurface. It's time for the new forever ahead.
Loved the emotions Cara shared as two people Finally get their moment. Divorce is mid- life doesn't mean the end of Mason and Lissa show that the possibility of lasting love can be found anytime. Cara Dee has delivered another great Camassia story and I cannot wait for more!

The very first chapter set the tone for me. Lissa is trying to find herself again and is happy with her current situation. She spends time with her best friend which is everything and runs into Mason, her ex-husband's brother.
These two are Absolute Perfection. Everyone handles the situation and changes like an adult. These aren't overly hormonal teenagers. They know what they want and it's okay.
Perfect addition to the series. Short read. Some hot scenes. Go read it!

This was a page turner for me! I could not put this down. I loved this second chance at love but it also had a little bit of a forbidden aspect to it too. Lissa and Mason were fantastic together. I loved the connection and the chemistry in this book. Mason was not going to back down until he broke down Lissa's walls. I loved the HEA but the ending was a shocker for me to the least and I can't wait to see what happens next! I would highly recommend this book!

Fun loving read full of laughs, love, and, family. They perfect read that will make you want to curl up on the couch and soak up every single word. I adored this book from the very beginning. This is definitely one of those feel good books that you love and just want more of. The main characters are more than loveable and their family it everything and more. This is for sure a book I would recommend!! Also on a side note Lissa's ex does have a story that is already available called When Forever Ended
Cara Dee writes all sort of romances. She does it so well. Fall by Winter is Lissa story, which we know her from another Camassia book "When Forever Ended". She is building her life after her divorce, until her ex brother-in law shows up. Their chemistry is off the charts. Even though Lissa has walls around her heart, Mason wants her no matter what. This book shows what an emotionally mature and healthy relationship looks like. It was very fun and enjoyable read. No surprise at this point that Cara is one of my favorite authors. On her newest contemporary romance Lissa is trying to navigate life post divorce. She finally is in a place of contentment and the last thing she needs is the complication a new man would bring. She.’a perfectly content being blissfully alone. That is until her ex’s brother shows up and throws her content life into chaos. This has Cara’s trademark steam and engaging dialogue and it was a perfect feel good read.

I always love it when Cara Dee returns to Camassia Cove. These are my favorites of her stories. I loved Lissa and Mason's story and getting to revisit Kelly and William plus the rest of their family. Lissa went through a lot with the dissolution of her marriage, but was able to maintain her relationship with her ex while finding her own HEA. Excited that Rory's story may be next!
