In the dark, winding hills overlooking the New York Harbor lay the city’s most exclusive club. A mansion that offered a glimpse back to the days when the mob had ruled New York.
I took my seat at the bar and flirted with the man behind it—the one who made me weak in the knees yet kept his personal life a veiled secret.
It started off like any other, except, that night, Jesse Grant and I shared a moment.
And then all hell broke loose.
As gunfire rained down, I fell to the floor in fear, only to be shielded by a man who was risking his own life to save mine.
Jesse led me away from danger that night. While traipsing through the underground tunnels of the city, I learned my family wasn’t who I’d thought they were and no one could be trusted … including Jesse.
He devoured my body and stole my heart. Then, he left in the shadows of the night, leaving me to wonder if he was really who he had said he was.
Discovering dark secrets, intense attraction, and a plot where everyone’s life was on the line … my once-boring life morphed into that of a crime drama.
And there was only one man I was willing to give my trust to. I just prayed that he was worth the risk.
When I was little, my mom was part of the Double Day book club. She had piles and piles of books lying around the house; most of them with Fabio-esque men and a scantily clad woman set in a different century. I made up stories in my head just from looking at the covers.
When I as 9, I wrote stories using my best friend as a muse. They were romances...but for the 9-year-old. She was the only one who read them.
When I was 14, another friend gave me a Marian Keyes novel. I fell in-love with her wit, and humor with a dark side. This was my first experience with realistic fiction.
When I was 19, Nicholas Sparks forever changed my views on relationships. I learned what true love could be beautiful and difficult at the same time. I wanted it.
When I was 22, Jeannette Wells made me feel more emotion from an autobiographical novel than I thought possible. I wanted to be her.
When I was 30, Jamie McGuire and Colleen Hoover introduced me to the world of self-publishing. For the first time I thought: I could give this a try someday.
When I was 32, my someday came.

In one night your entire world can change. Amelia discovers that she is not only has she been living in a bubble and her family is part of the Mafia, but the man she has had a crush on may hold more secrets than she knows and yet may be the only man she is able to trust with her life.
In this fast paced, nail biter new book by Jeannine Colette, Amelia's ordinary world is blown wide open in one night while having drinks with her best friend. She's lived in blissful ignorance that her family is part of the Mafia, while she lives a mundane existence crunching numbers as an auditor in an accounting firm. Her one indulgence is gorging on the eye candy, bartender-Jessie, where she meets her best friend every week for drinks. Never in her wildest dreams did she expect a shootout to occur on one of her weekly visits, nor for Jessie to turn into a James Bond and protect her with his life.
Once her life implodes Jessie doesn't leave her side, turning up to save her life on multiple occasions and calming her down when the panic begins to set in. Perhaps the most startling revelation on top of her family keeping secrets from her entire life, Jessie not only is there to protect her, but wants to do it because he has feelings for her that he's been harboring for quite some time, but that isn't the only secret he is keeping.
Jessie is more than just the bartender than he has let her believe. He's a man with lots of secrets and no matter how much Amelia is falling for him, she isn't sure if she should trust him. Could he be setting her up to take the fall? Told from Amelia's POV, this Mafia princess has to put her total trust in a man and it's the scariest and most thrilling decision of her life.
A total of 4.5 stars for this surprise book with thrilling action and a book filled with secrets.
A sheltered and innocent heroine, and a hero with a secret. Jeannine Colette had us in constant peril wondering: who can she trust?
Narrowly escaping a deadly ambush, upends Amelia’s life. Leaving her vulnerable, and left to place her trust in the man who saved her, Jesse. As tension and curiosity mounts in an attempt to uncover the traitor, the question left lingering is : who can she truly trust?
Colette weaves a suspenseful mafia tale that had us eager to uncover the perpetrator. These characters were very sweet and chemistry hot. A plot mixed with danger and mystery. As we have grown accustomed to dark mafia romances, this fell more in the area of a very light mafia read. An overall good story.
Thank you to Jeannine Colette for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
After the first couple of chapters, I was so intrigued and pulled in. The suspense, the sexual tension, the action, I was very into it.
Jesse, so mysterious and sexy and full of secrets.
Amelia...a bit naive and absolutely clueless and has no idea who she can trust. Everyone is keeping secrets and telling lies, even her family.
Once some of those secrets are revealed, and she finds out who Jesse really is, she starts to grow - mentally and emotionally.
Even though I didn’t get too many feels from this story, I did enjoy it. Light on the mafia, medium on the action & suspense, heavy on the lust & love.
Body of Trust is a really thrilling, suspenseful modern mafia story. Amelia is a little bit naive. She is the daughter of a mafia boss but she has been sheltered from knowing anything about her family’s connections. That is, until she is thrown right into the middle of a conflict.
Jesse knows he should keep his distance from his boss’s daughter. But when Amelia is in danger, Jesse does what he can to protect her.
“The sneak. I need to watch out. If I don’t protect myself, he might just steal my heart. Then, I’ll be in real trouble.”
I loved how exciting this story was without losing the romance. I was kept on the edge of my seat, fully invested from page one. I absolutely adored the ending and epilogue! -4.5 Stars!-
A good fast paced mafia romance about Jesse and Amelia. The chemistry between them was so intense and good. They come from two different sides where as she is part of a mob family and he is an undercover agent working as a bartender at her parents’ restaurant. When something happens that causes her to need protection, can she trust him to protect her or is the trust gone?
Just when Amelia thinks she is getting somewhere with the hot bartender Jesse at Villa Russo, gunfire erupts and it is Jesse that helps her out of the building and to safety. But his identity is not who she thinks he is and his true reason for being at Villa Russo puts her between a rock and a hard place. Will she chose her family or will she chose love? With the Mafia overtones and great character interactions this was a great read. The reader cannot help but become emotionally connected with the characters and want them to get their HEA.

What a fantastic read this turned out to be!!! If you love mafia lore and stories, an insanely protective hero, insta-lust, and a strong-willed heroine, well then you've come to the right place. This story starts out with a literal bang and they're off and running through hidden tunnels beneath the streets of New York. Everything you love about a good mob story is in these pages. It was an awesome escape. Maybe a bit too unbelievably insta-lust for my taste, but I sure was taken away into the story.
Jesse and Amelia are from two different worlds. They have a powerful attraction to one another but circumstances have kept them from each other. Amelia is the daughter of a powerful mafia boss and Jess is a bartender but one night changes everything they know. When Amelia and her family come under fire one man steps up to protect her. CURIOUS AND CONFUSED … TRUST IS THE NAME OF THE GAME
“I’m a protector. My entire life, I have known I would do anything to protect the ones I love.”
“It’s wrong. The timing, the place … the man. And yet, in this moment, I feel a connection more blistering and hotter than anything I’ve ever known.”
My lips are sealed on details, but JC has spread her romance wings in a new direction with a mafia suspensor that makes hottie bartender Jesse Grant and accountant Amelia Sorrentino unlikely allies trapped in the dilemma of their lives for quite different reasons. The shifting story constantly had me guessing about who was wearing the white hats and the black hats, where trust is the name of the game and hard to come by. Who wants it -- who deserves it -- who squandered it. As usual with JC’s heroes, my eye was constantly on Jesse, but Amelia’s family is far more than meets the eye and there are more twists and turns than a circus acrobat.
Amelia’s family has secrets and nothing is as it seems. Danger is coming because of it and headed straight for Amelia. She’s been in the dark too long and never noticed any signs. When it all explodes around her, who can she trust, what can she believe? Can she trust the man that calls to her heart or will she even survive at all … especially if it includes a broken heart? Expect the unexpected because Amelia is about to face the crisis of her life, and the man she relies on to save her? … well, she really doesn’t know him at all.
The mystery and danger surrounding Amelia and Jesse had me anxious, nervous, and constantly waiting for several shoes to drop. Nothing and no one is what it seems, even Jesse who surprises her at every turn as he goes from hot crush to knight in shining armor. But is he telling her the truth and what’s his endgame?
Danger, fear, and heart palpitating chemistry fuel the romance and where it takes the MCs. It’s even more tense because of the limited POV of the in-the-dark heroine’s uncertainty about everything going on around her, as she begins to doubt what she believes in the harrowing situation, along with unpredictable Jesse and his job at her family’s private social club. There are all kinds of tiny bombshells dropped throughout the mystery-action-escapade that left my head spinning and the rug continually ripped out from under me, all while the MCs end up in a spiraling ball of confusion with no easy answers. So much keeps us in the dark -- and sometimes I needed more plot details – but Jesse and Amelia took me on a wild, sexy ride, and I kept changing my mind until almost the very end. If you think a dangerous and sticky situation can’t get any stickier, then think again.
“You’re like a dream." "Let’s not wake up." "Never.”
This book surprised me. I enjoyed every minute with Amelia and Jesse. This book is perfectly fast paced and held my attention from the first page to the last. It's a great suspense romance with easy to fall for characters and lots of tension.
Now I’ll admit. I’m not a big mafia person but I was so enthralled with this book I totally forgot it was mafia related!! Their relationship had me wanting more. The storyline kept me guessing. And at the end my jaw was wide open in shock. Mrs Colette weaved the perfect tale of truths and lies leaving us guessing who was right, who was wrong and, not would, but could they get their HEA?! Highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a twisty tale of who done it to get lost in!
I was given an advance readers copy of this book and have decided to write a voluntary honest review. I found this book really different from her other books. I liked the mafia vibe I got. The plot was also good. I just felt like something was missing and I can't figure out what.
I vacillated between 3 and 4 stars for this read, so 3.5 it is.
I did enjoy our lovelies story once I got into it, however I did find that it was not holding my full attention and it did take me a few days to finish it. That is probably just going to be a me problem.
To me, Body of Trust was like a Mafia-Lite story. I have read and loved many mafia books these past few years, and they were darker and grittier than what I felt reading Body of Trust.
To me, I did like the romantic parts of the story, but it did not feel that suspenseful. I pretty much guessed what the leading man was up to in the first chapter or so. And to me I felt our leading lady was just a bit too naive about her family and the business they were in. And as for her mother - gah I just wanted to scream at her.
She did grow on me in the end though and her strengths did shine through.
I know it makes it sound like I didn't like this book, however that would be wrong. I did enjoy it in the end and was happy with where our lovelies ended up.
Um yes please and thank you! Colette has a way with her words. She brings the angst with the right amount of drama. The heat and chemistry between Amelia and Jesse made your heart skip a beat. I truly adored this story!
Yes this is a mafia story, but without all the strings attached. You get caught up in Amelia and Jesse's story and pieces fall into place. The mystery of what is happening has you intrigued and you want to know what will happen next.
Body of Trust is the antidote to a boring weekend and have you forget your worries for a few hours. This is a Must Read and I could not recommend it enough!!
A new and exciting adventure into the dark world of the mafia for author Jeannine Colette. What do you get when you mix a mafia princess with a sexy, protective bartender who find themselves on the run? Jeannine Colette takes you on a ride full of twists and turns in this crazy story of suspense and intrigue. The steam and chemistry between Jesse and Amelia is both sexy and beautiful. They find themselves thrown together after bullets rain in a unique bar in New York where Jesse is a bartender and Amelia is one of the regular patrons. Amelia is drawn to Jesse although they are from very different worlds. This story is quite different than the normal from Jeannine Colette but excellent for a rainy weekend read by the fire.
Jesse Grant, off-limits, hot bartender at Villa Russo, man with secrets… Amelia Sorrentino, accountant, frequenter of Villa Russo, naïve daughter of Raphael Sorrentino…
Body of Trust, written by romance writer Jeannine Colette, is a mob/mafia forbidden romance with twists, secrets, and heat.
“Amelia.” My name comes out deep and low. “I’m giving you the chance. One question, and I promise I’ll answer.”
I lick my lips and take a breath, almost shy as I ask, “What is the one thing about yourself you’ve always known to be true?”
Overall, I really enjoyed this read, it would be closer to a 5 star to me, but there was a small part in the middle where the storyline slowed a bit, but then it picked back up and ended with a bang! I would absolutely recommend this read and really enjoyed it. 4.5 stars. (rounding up to 5 because it is more than a 4 IMO)
Wow, what a ride! This is a romantic suspense mafia story, and if that’s your cup of tea, I highly recommend picking this one up.
Amelia grew up with the sometimes overbearing mother and doting father of a wealthy Italian family in New York City. Wanting to be financially independent, she has put her math skills to good use and works as an accountant in Manhattan. She joins her family for Friday night dinners at Villa Russo, and exclusive club where her extended family likes to gather. There, she enjoys drinks at the bar with her best friend and cousin Sienna while flirting with the cute bartender, Jesse. As there’s a policy against fraternization, she hasn’t acted on her crush and just enjoys the flirting.
Sienna knows she’s expected to marry an Italian boy from a respected family and dates accordingly, wanting to party as much as she can before having to settle down. Amelia knows there are at least some similar expectations for herself, but is hopeful she’ll get some freedom to make her own choices.
During a seemingly regular night at Villa Russo, the reality of her life and family comes crashing down around her. Suddenly, she has to come to grips with two facts: she’s a mafia princess, and her life is in danger. Jesse jumps into action and gets her out of a sticky situation. Their attraction sizzles from the moment they step out of their standard roles, but Amelia is rattled to the core, and weary to trust him. Of course, this is very understandable, considering her bubble has just been burst rather violently.
Over the course of the story, Amelia experiences considerable personal growth, both mentally and emotionally. She challenges the notions she grew up believing, and stands up for herself and her right to know the truth. Jesse remains by her side, helping and protecting her, despite the danger this poses to himself. He knows he needs to tell her what he knows, as well as his own role in the situation, in order to earn her trust.
Amelia’s emotions are a bit all over the place. She can’t help but fall for Jesse, fast, but doesn’t trust him yet completely. She also doesn’t know who else to trust in her extended family, because there appears to be a rat. It takes her a while to grow in this regard, but she’s forgiven for that, given the circumstances.
The book has a good balance of emotional development, action-packed sequences, and steamy love scenes that’ll have you fanning yourself. It’s not as dark and gritty as some other mafia books I've read, but there’s definitely enough suspense to keep you turning the pages.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jeannine Colette delivered a no holds barred Mafia romantic suspense book that grips the readers to the core. This gripping, suspenseful Mafia romance has secrets, mayhem, lies, betrayal, twists and turns—some you see coming, some you don’t! It will be hard to put this down once you get started—it was thrilling and shocking from the very beginning. It is packed with murder, mystery, danger, darkness, suspense, intrigue, kidnapping, and passion! Amelia Sorrentino is a Mafia princess who wants to live her own life. Her father did not want her to know about or get involved with the business. Every Friday, Amelia usually meets her family at Villa Russo, a members only club, for dinner. While at the club, Amelia became comfortable talking to Jesse Grant—the tall, hot, sexy, and handsome Bartender who catches her eye. Everything about him seems confusing the way he talks to her, not at all what it seems, and so sexy. Amelia can’t resist pulling closer, but every step she takes to get to know him gives her more of a reason to back up and push him as far away out of her life as possible—because not being Italian, he would not be accepted in her family plus she just got out of a relationship. One Friday, all of a sudden, an attack occurs at the club where Jesse saves Amelia and this brings them closer together for survival. Who is this person? Is there more to him than just being a bartender? Their chemistry is off-the-charts! Find out what dangers they incurred and how they handled them. Will they risk everything and fight to be together? I am a sucker for a bad boy with a heart of gold and this story has him in spades. Jeannine delivered a powerful, addictive, and all-consuming story that left me yearning for more. I highly recommend this book!
One thing that can make my day is a book from one-off my favorite authors of all times, but to top it all, to be the cherry on top of that freaking awesome cake is the fact that she's writing Mafia... Mafia guys... My favorite. I love this genre so much and to be written by the one and only Jeannine Colette it's the bomb. The bomb I tell y'all. Jeannine had this amazing writing, hot and wild, heartfelt, and intense and with some hotness in between. Have you had the privilege to read any of her books? If you haven't you don't know what you're missing out... Go get them and prepare to fall in love. Body of Trust is her latest release and explores Amelia's life. Amelia cane from money. She's used to the finer things her in life but she wants to make her own path. She doesn't want her father's money to dictate her life. One night at a manor... My sweet lord... What just happened? I loved this. I loved this book so freaking much. It was perfect in every way. Superb plot, very well written, super engaging, and mysterious. All worked perfectly and I loved every second of it. This book had it all, suspense, mystery, drama, crime as well as desire, loyalty, as some funny moments. One minute things go were call and peaceful and the next all hell broke loose. I can't find enough words to describe this book without spoiling. Sometimes you must see what's hidden to find their true colors. Not everything is what it seems. Trust your heart and you'll see the light. Jeannine... Oh boy. This book nailed it and I didn't want it to end. It was perfect. And... What's next? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wow! I loved this book! It was a bit different than Jeannine's usual genre, with Mafia suspense that kept me guessing and on my toes till the end!
Jesse Davenport, with his emerald green eyes and dirty blond hair is the antithesis of the men Amelia Sorrentino has gone out with. All approved by her father as worthy. She has strived to be her own woman, being the first in her family to get a college degree and now working at an Accounting Firm. But Jesse, the bartender at the elite club she has dinner with her family every Friday night, has captured her eye and attention for almost a year, yet she has never acted on it. Until one night - when all hell broke loose.
Jesse has been drawn to Amelia since the first time he saw her. So protecting her came naturally, as did loving her. They were like two magnets pulled together by an invisible force. The trust issue took a little longer for Amelia, after learning her whole life had been a lie covered up by her family. But trust was a must and Jesse and Amelia were all in! I loved watching the chemistry build between these two, and how loyal and protective Jesse was over Amelia. And they made my kindle overheat!
I was fascinated about how the Power Ball system worked. I had no idea of the intricacies involved. I loved the concept of family and how deep it was developed in both Jesse and Amelia's lives. Jesse's blanket and painting made me tear up.
The ending was the best it could have been, I was really worried for a bit. This reminded me of Parker S. Huntington's Mafia books which I loved! And the Epilogue! I LOVE Epilogues, so this was the cherry on top! I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could!!
I loved every single page of this book. One of the many reasons is because I completely and wholly related to Amelia Sorrentino. One thing about me a lot of people may not know is that when I got out of high school many, many, many years ago, I went to work for a major sanitation company and I can tell you that Ms. Colette has written a book that is spot on when it comes to the behind the doors machinations of the garbage world….it’s been happening for years and still happens today!!
Jesse is a man that’s on a mission, but Amelia puts a detour in his plans and while neither were expecting or looking for love or passion, sometimes, plans need to be reassessed when things go awry in every aspect of your life.
There are white knuckle moments in this book that had my pulse racing not only from the suspense but the passion between Jesse and Amelia. The come together to bring people to justice and it causes strife in their lives beyond anything they could imagine! There is a determinedness in the solving and uncovering of the who’s, what’s and why’s of the behind the scenes activities of the sanitation world!!
If you’re your looking for a heart-stopping romantic suspense book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, Body of Trust is a book that you must read!!
I loved this book! Amelia is definitely going to learn the hard way how corrupt her “family” is and learn what it feels like to be completely in love with another...to the point of no return. Jesse is an undercover cop trying to get the evidence he needs to help put the mob away, but he’s about to be compromised big time.. Amelia is a sheltered young woman who isn’t even aware of what her own family is. Her cousin knows exactly what kind of family they belong to but Amelia has no clue until the night her life is on the line. Now Jesse is battling another situation...does he jeopardize his cover, or does he save the woman he’s quickly becoming obsessed with. Her safety, her life, her family are on the line. With the deck stacked against them, not knowing who or what to trust, can they trust each other and if they can will it be enough to escape this hell with their lives to make it to their forever?
This book has everything! It’s full of suspense never knowing who or what is going on who you can trust. A family determined to keep their secrets hidden in order to protect the innocent members and a set of overly protective parents who are just as determined to keep their daughter from being harmed...add in an undercover cop and things become very intense very quickly..
Our nerdy heroine, Amelia, has no idea she's a mafia princess, until her handsome bartender, who is actually an undercover agent, Hero, Jesse, rescues her from certain death. In that moment, our naive heroine, suddenly has the blinders ripped off and the bubble she lived in pops to reveal the truth about her family and that of her best friend. She's not sure which love to give her allegiance to...family or her budding relationship? He also knows there's a leak in his agency and making the wrong decision on who to trust could get both of them killed. I enjoyed this story as it wasn't billed as a mafia romance because it really wasn't as it just took place within the mafia world. Jesse broke his cover story right away with Amelia which enabled the story to focus more on our couple and not the mafioso world. There was plenty of suspense and intrigue surrounding the two with seemingly no HEA in sight for our couple, but the author manages to suspend a bit of belief to give us a plausible ending.
I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.
On the surface, Amelia and Jesse are a couple that could never work. She is the daughter of a successful businessman and Jesse is a bartender at the club her family frequently dines at. He always seems to be working when she's there, but Amelia doesn't mind. He's handsome and pays attention to her. They make small talk and maybe even flirt a little. And it's all very innocent until it isn't.
After that night Amelia finds herself thrust into situations that she never thought she'd be in. And Jesse is there pretty much the whole way. He's not only her support system, but it turns out he is one of the few people she can actually trust.
I really enjoyed this book! Throughout the whole thing, there were these moments where I felt like I could easily be watching a movie. It was suspenseful, but it also had a wonderful romance story line. This genre is different from what the author usually writes and I hope she writes more! There's a secondary character in this book that I loved and I would LOVE to get her story!
BODY OF TRUST is a Mafia love story. Villa Russo is a private social club & the most exclusive club in all New York. It is located in the hills overlooking the New York Harbor. A former mansion once owned by a crime family. Today it is occupied by one big Italian family. It also is the start of the love story of “The heiress and the bartender.”
Amelia Sorrentino is sitting at the bar inside the Villa Russo, waiting for the routine Friday night family dinner. Her eyes are glued to the bartender named Jesse Grant. She has had a huge crush on Jesse ever since he started as a bartender working at the place. They flirt and talk between them, knowing it can lead nowhere. Jesse Grant has dirty-blond hair and blue-green eyes. He is the exact opposite of every other man in the entire club. His smile is dazzling. Suddenly this moment turns violently into a life or death situation. Amelia follows Jesse through the darkest tunnels that lead into the depths of the city. Jesse vows to protect her and that he does by saving her very life. Who would have thought that the bartender, would fall for the daughter of the man he was trying to take down? Packed full of action the story has lots of twist & turns. Highly Recommend!
Body of Trust by Jeannine Colette. Amelia's life is pretty predictable. She spends her time with family and her friend Sienna Jesse works at Villa Russo the place where she meets both. One night when she is there shooting breaks out. If it wasn't for Jesse grabbing her and getting her to safety she doesn't know what would have happened. Her dad was there but he didn't even come to her rescue. She is so confused and has many questions. This incident is the beginning of her life being turned upside. Truths are revealed. She doesn't kniw who to trust. Jesse did save her but she doesn't really know him. What she does know is she has an attraction to him. As she falls further down the rabbit hole and more is revealed, she becomes increasingly leery of everyone. I have read many books from this author. She writes stories that are not ony gritty but have some good hot sex. Jesse is the a typical good looking alpha man who draws women to him and being sexy doesn't hurt. Amelia is one of them. This story didn't disappoint. Interesting premise to this story. A story that left a smile on my face. Couldn'tput it down. 4.5 stars for me.
Although this was a good stand-alone mafia story it's also a one time read for me. There were things I liked and disliked about the story. Amelia was an okay character, I enjoyed Jesse a lot and Sienna was just careless. It was as if nothing that was happening phased Sienna. She didn't have a care in the world and all she wanted to do was party and go to clubs. The chemistry between Amelia and Jesse was good and the sex scenes were steamy. However, Amelia killed me with the back and forth. She trust Jesse one minutes and then doesn't the next. She said she doesn't trust him yet again, but then yells at him when he's not around to protect her. She also claims their in it together then the next thing you know, their not. I just needed some consistency with her. At least Jesse was consistent with everything and he protected her the best he could with the situation he was dealing with. The story was full of suspense, betrayal, revenge and secrets. The suspense is what kept me reading. I had to know how things would turn out. The ending was sweet and this is a story worth giving a try.
