Halloween is just around the corner and there’s a dead body on the porch of Calhoun’s most famous haunted house.
At first, criminal investigator Larry Macklin scoffs when his partner insists that a ghost from an unsolved murder case is to blame. But even Larry has to admit that something very strange is happening when another victim is discovered inside the locked house.
Is there really a ghost at work, or does a flesh-and-blood killer know something about the house that no one else does? It’s up to Larry to connect the dots before more bodies stack up during the spookiest time of the year.

Didn't see the ending here. A bit of a stretch, but it works.
As always the main characters are all here and doing well. Even manage to bring Darlene into the story easy reading, good story, even a past mystery thrown in.
As always I enjoyed the newest Larry Macklin by A.E.Howe and devoured it too quickly. An old house that many years ago was the scene of a horrific slaughter of a local family is once again in the news. A homeless man is murdered at the house starting a new investigation into the old case. It's an entertaining, and yet humorous, murder mystery. The usual cast of much-loved characters are joined by a new white kitten that earns the name of Ghost because it disappears frequently. Fun read! Cheers Lynda L. Lock (Isla Mujeres Mysteries)
I think there must be a required number of words for these self published books to make "the cut" so-to-speak. I say this because all these authors add drivel that does not enhance anything or add context to the characters, but detracts the flow. Also, editing could be better. Not so bad in these books, but could be better. If not for the added, unnecessary, drivel and editing errors I would have given a five rating. I like this series by this author and hope to see more. Enjoy the read!
THIS MYSTERY TOUCHES ON MENTAL ILLNESS & THE HOMELESS PROBLEMS, THAT HAS ESCULATED. THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED IN 2020, AND THE PROBLEM HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORST. IT IS NOW 2022 AND MOST CITIES ARE STRUGGLING WITH IT EVEN MORE. I ENJOYED THE MYSTERY AND WAS PRETTY MUCH AS CONFUSED AS LARRY WAS. I DID GUESS AT WHAT WAS GOING ON BEFORE LARRY DID (yay me). I ALWAYS ENJOY THIS SERIES ITS A REAL TREAT FOR ME, I'VE READ ALL OF THEM (this is #15) AND HAVE THE NEXT 3 WAITING IN MY KINDLE. ;D
I wanted try a new author and found this one recommended. I was thinking it was a police procedural kind of story but was pleasantly surprised it was not and enjoyed the story. He is not a detective exactly but solves crimes same way . will try another one in this series. Peace.
This might be my favorite Macklin murder mystery. Several threads run through this storyline and are masterfully tied up with a great ending. The usual cast of characters that have become like old friends after reading all fifteen books. Great series.
Once Deputy Macklin gets going on a case (or two!) it is like a speeding Bullet Train! There is no stopping until all the twists and turns are wrapped up and the train pulls into the station. Very exciting! Nicely done A. E. Howe. Thank you for another great read!
The latest Larry Macklin story was the most intriguing. The way the two storyline murders intertwined was masterful. Final twist was a decade murder of a family was also solved. Very good read and will keep you engaged.
A house with a haunted past and a murder with a ghost for a suspect sets the scene for Larry Macklin's latest adventure, and it's as entertaining and convoluted as ever. Don't miss it.
As usual, a body, then another body. And a third body? Are they somehow connected? Clues stare Larry Macklin right in the face, but he can't seem to see them. Naggy little things! And a ghost, yep, a ghost, helps him start to put things together.
As a retired old fart, I spend a good deal of the time reading. Larry Macklin mysteries have made my time enjoyable, but now I take a break and return to westerns for a while.
tragic, exculpatory, maddening and triumphant at the end
A decades old locked room set of homicides play into the death of a homeless man with a history of schizophrenia; Larry’s own school days; and a simply psycho - yet unexpected - unsub.
Most of the book is typical mystery that picks up and becomes a real page turner. Associated animals are of course too cute. Very enjoyable book that kept me up two hours past my bedtime.
I enjoy these books ! On to number16, what will Larry get into in the next one. I think they could stand alone but you would miss some of the backstory. Thank you again Mr. Howe!
I'm amazed at the way the author can weave ( seems like in significant facts ) but end up being important facts in the investigations . I really enjoyed this one ,
