Beth Prentice knows how to write a story that is filled with laughter, good fun and of course a romance to make you smile, throw in a little danger, a secret, not to mention a few animals with problems and this one is a page turner. Fabulous characters they are so easy to love and be friends with, a small town and a farm called Dun-Roamin makes this a must read.

Tilly Lockhart has not had much luck so far in life, her adored cupcake shop has just closed down and things are not looking good when she finds out that she has been left a farm from a great aunt she has never even heard of there is a requirement attached to the bequest and that is that she must live on the farm for a full year before it becomes hers to do as she wishes with.

Tilly is always ready to give anything a go although she is not always confident that she will get there and when she arrives at Dun-Roamin Farm it is nothing like she expected, she has two thousand acres and group of animals to look after and she is going to have to ask for help from the McKenzie Men Wally, Randall and Noah who are co- owners of the farm, here starts a journey of learning for Tilly but also lots of laughs along the way for readers there is also threats and danger for Tilly, because not everyone is happy that the farm has been left to her and there are some who want her gone.

This story brings Tilly very close to Noah and things just might be going Tilly’s way the sensual pull she has for Noah is heating up, but when Tilly uncovers a secret that has been kept for years and there is a fire Tilly’s life is in grave danger, but she will not give up, she feels Matilda encouraging her and the love for the farm and the animals and Noah is strong.

I loved the McKenzie men in this story Wally was so much trouble and fun, Randall quiet and Noah what a hero gorgeous, caring and fabulous and Tilly she is beautiful on the inside and outside always willing to get in and help with a smile, then the animals you have got to meet them, I loved them. I laughed out loud so much through this story.

I loved this story so much, Beth Prentice has a way with words, she brings lots of laughter, fun, romance and emotion to the pages, her stories are uplifting and sure to leave any reader feeling very happy at the end, I do highly recommend this story.

My thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

Excerpt #1

Fate. It’s a fickle master. One minute I was riding the wave of happiness and success. Everything in my life was just the way my ten-year-old self had imagined it would be. I had a successful bakery specialising in cupcakes, my days were filled with sugar filled creations and customers lined the streets to buy my wares. I had a gorgeous kind-of boyfriend, and my parents were on a trek to Machu Picchu, their phones out of signal, leaving me alone.
But was Fate happy? No. It was not. Fate was only happy once it set me up and then ripped the carpet out from under my feet so that I fell flat on my face.
I’m Tilly Lockhart, and this is my story.

Excerpts coming soon :)

Keep your wishes close…and your secrets even closer
Cupcake business owner Tilly Lockhart is out of luck, out of money and up to her eyeballs in debt. So when she inherits a farm from her great aunt Matilda – a woman she never knew existed - Tilly grabs the opportunity with both hands and moves her life to Dun Roamin’. Sure, she has no idea how to look after two thousand acres of agricultural land, a neurotic horse, four stubborn cows, a one-eyed dog, and a cockatoo that swears, but how hard can it be? Plus the will stipulates just one year and then she can sell up and reopen her beloved cupcake shop with her head held high.
Determined to succeed, she packs her most valuable possessions into her Fiat 500 and tackles her new life head on. But it doesn’t take long to realize that rugged farms don’t play well with high heeled shoes and cars resembling a roller skate.
Out of her depth, she enlists the help of the farm’s co-owners, the very sexy Noah, and his quirky grandfather Wally. But as an unexpected romance bubbles with Noah, Wally - a one-man disaster waiting to happen - leads her into more trouble than she needs. During a mishap with a flame thrower and a field of barley, they uncover the first of Dun Roamin’s secrets—a haunting mural of a mysterious key dangling from a gold chain. The same key Matilda wore around her neck right up until the day she died. A key that is now missing.
Tilly quickly learns what it takes to live life on a farm. While knitting jumpers for featherless chickens and coming to terms with the fact that she’ll never be friends with Polly the cockatoo who has her own crush on Noah, she fills her spare time searching for the key. But instead of finding treasure, she discovers that Great Aunt Matilda held the biggest secret of all, and there’s an unknown enemy who’ll stop at nothing to keep that secret buried. As threads of past sins unravel, secrets are revealed, danger builds, and the threats for Tilly to leave things alone and go home grow more deadly with every passing day.
The problem is, she’s falling in love with more than just Noah. Despite the many hiccups in navigating her new life, Tilly is succeeding for the first time. And the more she learns about Dun Roamin’ and the spirit of great aunt Matilda, the more they’re cemented in her heart. Giving up her new richer life up may not be as easy as she previously thought.
When she finds the key in the hands of her enemy, the truth Matilda had hidden is unlocked, and everything Tilly thought she knew about herself is turned upside down. Betrayed by those she loves, she must put all past demons aside if she wants to survive.
But can Tilly defend herself against someone she’s supposed to trust?
Will she find the inner strength she needs to protect what she’s grown to love?
Or will she lose everything, including her life?

Matilda’s Wish Earns 5/5 Animal Menageries...Engaging Mystery!

Beth Prentice has penned a delightful mystery, refreshingly sans a dead body, as the premier book in her Dun Roamin’ Mystery series. Tilly Lockhart’s dream of owning a bakery specializing in gourmet cupcakes turned into a bankruptcy nightmare, so receiving a call from Blackburn & Associates, Attorneys at Law, formally requesting the presence of Matilda Mary Lockhart, a name only found on her birth certificate, was worrisome at best...scary at worst! However, there she learns she is the sole beneficiary of the remaining half of Dun Roamin’ Farm from a woman whose name and birthday she shares, but about whom she knows very little. Then, the catch. She must live on the farm for twelve months, after which, the deed will be transferred into her name and she can do with it what she wants. But, if she vacates early, the property goes to a local Arts society. It all came at the right moment in Tilly’s life, but the rundown house, odd collection of animals, “city slicker” naïveté, and the burning question, “Why me?” is problematic. Meeting her neighbors, the very helpful McKenzie clan, is fortuitous, especially the handsome and accommodating Noah. But, issues with disgruntled family, vandalism, overzealous agro conglomerate reps, theft, and disturbing threats are challenges for which Tilly is ill prepared putting her stay in jeopardy.

Squawking Good Time! The mystery of why Tilly was left the farm, the odd occurrences, curious animosities, and “leave or else” threats kept me turning every page to the unexpected “Oh, Wow!” peril. Although this isn’t a murder mystery and I’m so fine with that, there was more than enough puzzles needing a solution, and the loose ends were nicely tied up. Beth’s writing style is engaging with descriptive language to fill the senses and add to the tension along with clever banter that depicted well the personalities, yet hid those out to sabotage Tilly. And Tilly? I sure like her with realistic flaws and failures and dealing with bruised self-confidence, yet in a pinch, she comes through. I like the handsome love interest and the relationship she fosters with the rest of the McKenzies and the menagerie of quirky animals. Her creativity with cupcakes, deliciously described, is a fun theme looking to be continued throughout the series. I’d hoped for a bit more emphasis on the Australian (Queensland) locale, culture, Aboriginal influence, or even some stereotypical details to make it stand out. Still it was very entertaining fun, and I am eager for book two, “Matilda’s Secret,” set for a 2022 release.

Disclosure: I received an ARC from the author. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

5 Star review Matilda's Wish by Beth Prentice

Tilly Lockhart is having a rough time at the moment, life is really getting her down. The sudden inheritance of a Dun-Roamin (I just love the name) farm from her great aunt Matilda intrigues her so she decides to visit, then learns that she has to stay there for 12 months to inherit.

It would seem that no one is happy about her inheritance an unfortunately the people are unwelcoming. Although having the hot co-owner of the farm Noah in her life is a bonus. As Tilly uncovers secrets and lies, her life will be threatened, the danger real. However all it does is strengthen Tilly’s resolve to stand strong.I really loved the development of the relationship between Tilly and Noah, I fell for him hard and fast and the banter between them is witty.

What happens when everything that Tilly has grown to love is threatened? Will she risk everything, including her life?

This is a book that I found thoroughly entertaining. Beth Prentice has written a story that will draw you in and keep you captivated from the first to the last chapter.

Thank you Beth for sending us a copy to read and review.
When a glamorous cupcake maker inherits a farm, expect the unexpected.
Tilly Lockhart is in debt and her cupcake business has just closed.
When she thinks she’s run out of luck, Tilly finds out she’s now part owner of Dun Roamin’, her great Aunt Matilda’s farm.
Tilly has no idea who she is and the will comes with one stipulation.
She must spend one year on the property before she can sell.
Off to the country she goes and with 2000 acres, a crazy selection of furry friends, the friendly neighbours and possibly danger, Tilly wonders if she’s up for the challenge.
But the small town gets under her skin and when a small fire reveals the secrets behind the inheritance, Tilly hopes she can survive it all.
From the colourful cartoonish cover to the addictive, heartwarming plot, Beth delivers a fun, quirky and totally entertaining read.
There’s humour, a cast of endearing characters and a little mystery for readers to solve.
So much to enjoy and adore in this story that will leave you with a smile and a extra beat of the heart
With a spoonful of romance, a sweet heroine, a scrumptious next door hottie, a barnyard full of spicy pets and a full flavoured exciting plot, how can you go wrong with this tasty treat.

This was a delightful read, I always enjoy a novel by Beth Prentice and this one was full of such wonderful characters, humour, romance and a mystery, that I was sad to part with the characters at the end.

Down on her luck, Tilly inherits half of a farm and a farmhouse, while not exactly what she was expecting, she is determined to make a go of it and meet the challenges she is faced with head-on.

The other half of the farm is owned by the McKenzie men. Noah, the gorgeous man that he was, is always there to help Tilly out. There were some fabulous moments between these two and plenty to keep a smile on my face.

Noah's granddad Wally was a right character and forever getting himself into trouble and when Tilly and Wally got together, watch out, there's plenty of fun times.

I enjoyed seeing Noah's dad slowly come out from under his grief after each interaction with Matilda, she certainly brought out the best in him. Cooking really was the way to his heart and happy memories. Mind you, Tilly's cupcakes were happily devoured by all the men and they were more than happy to take them as payment for any help they gave her. I personally am glad Tilly does live near me, I'd be on a diet every other week if she did.

Apart from the delightful characters, there are of course the less delightful, and in such a small town, it seems everybody has an agenda.

Somebody wants Tilly out and there are plenty of potential suspects for all the bad things that are thrown at Tilly. It was interesting uncovering the truth that had been hidden for many years.

The animals in this story play just as much of a role as the people and provided plenty of laughs, especially one scene with Goatie and her attorney. And Clifford the dog turns out to be a real hero.

I really hope I get to catch up with Till, Noah, Wally and..... Again soon.

Matilda’s Wish by Beth Prentice will keep you laughing until you have stitches in your side. Matilda Lockhart, Tilly, has trouble following her. When she called into an attorney’s office, she assumes it is because of her failed bakery. Instead, she finds she has inherited a substantial amount of money and a farm from a great aunt she never met. The catch is this city girl must live on the farm for a year before she gets ownership. The longer Tilly lives on the farm, the more enemies she seems to make. Someone wants her to leave, but to what end? Is it the cousin contesting the will, the art museum which will inherit if she leaves, or the company that is buying out all the landowners in the area? The three generations of McKenzie men next door help every chance they can.

Beth Prentice must have enjoyed writing this book as I had read it. Matilda’s Wish is the chick lit that keeps you glued to the pages as you wonder what Tilly will do next. This humorous novel blends romance with mystery. The pace goes quickly from one threat by a mysterious foe, to intense attraction to the handsome Noah McKenzie, and trouble caused by Tilly and Wally McKenzie as their bad karma feeds off each other. Tilly seems to get along well with everyone, except those who are trying to take her inheritance. The characters are well-developed and give this novel life. Towards the end you realize Tilly has avoided her assailant too many times and serious action must take place. It is fascinating that the real enemy was there the entire time, and the story unfolds in a satisfying way.

What a lovely, lite read this was! This is not normally a genre I’d read but I thoroughly enjoyed being immersed into the life of Tilly on Dun Roamin.

Tilly feels like a failure in life, like she never finishes a thing she starts, when she finds herself sent to live on a farm hours from home after Matilda, a family member Tilly never knew about, leaves the estate to her. She must live there for a year or the place is handed over to the Arts Society.

Tilly being as stubborn as she is won’t give in on the derelict abode or Houdini animals in her care and with the help of the McKenzies next door, she starts to find her groove. That is until someone wants her gone and will stop at nothing to get what they want...

A funny whodunnit with likeable (and not so likeable) characters that will keep you guessing till the very end! A fabulous read that I highly recommend!

I really enjoyed this book and think you will too! Humor, fun, suspense, and a little romance are combined to give you a well-written story about a girl who has met up with more than her share of misfortune, a farm she inherits, and the antics that ensue when she dropped into this new 'life.' Although she's willing to embrace this lastest challenge, not everyone is happy that she's out on the farm! Pick up this super entertaining laugh-out-loud read as you will enjoy the story as well as the characters, get your fill of drama, mystery, secrets, and romance, and meet some really fun and likable characters along the way. I received a complimentary copy of this book and am providing my honest opinion.

Mix together a city girl and a country guy; add the mystery of an inheritance and it's stipulation; stir in a bit of mystery; spoon in a heap of laughter and a swirl of mystery and you have the makings of another great Beth Prentice read.
Matilda's Wish is probably my favourite book so far - but I seem to say that with each new book Ms Prentice writes. I couldn't put it down, and finished it in one day!

What a surprise packet this book was, all the elements of a great read. Tilly inherits an old farmhouse, but must live there for 12 months to keep the inheritance, can she overcome unfriendly townspeople, family members who seem hell-bent on contesting the will, and a mysterious stranger who seems to want Tilly gone at all costs. Laughter, drama, intrigue, lust and cupcakes all together make a story I can highly recommend.

Absolute amazing! Beth you have done it again. Just when you think you know who the culprit is you’re wrong! I must admit my favourite character was Wally and my favourite part of the book was the scene in the cabbage patch, very funny.

Cute story

I give the story 4 stars, but added 1 star for the cover! Quite a cast of characters, both two and four Iegged. There were a few threads that never got quite tied up, such as how cows from across the county kept finding their way into the crop field, and the heroine was a little ditzy, but good reading overall.

“Was Fate happy? No. It was not. Fate was only happy once it set me up and then ripped the carpet out from under my feet so that I fell flat on my face.
I’m Tilly Lockhart, and this is my story.” Thus begins Matilda’s crazy transition between city career girl to barely resisting country gal. Upon receiving a phone call from stranger Gregory Blackburn the Third, she really has no other option but to return the call. According to Attorney Blackburn, Matilda is the sole beneficiary of her great aunt’s farm. Matilda is at her last dime after being forced to close her cupcake bakery. Down on her luck, not daring to request assistance from her parents in whose favor she is no longer comfortable, she accepts the challenge of residing on this unknown relative’s property for twelve months in order to fully inherit this mysterious gift. As she grows accustom to the inconveniences of country life, Matilda battles the suspicions attitudes of the town folks in order to succeed as mistress of Dun Roamin’.

Matilda’s Wish by Beth Prentice is an expected treasure to this reviewer. The perfect balance of humor romance, and wicked commentary, this novel has opened my heart to more from Beth Prentice. With a well-edited pen, Matilda’s Wish is sure to convert any reader to this fun story with its strong character development and tightly woven plot. As happy ending go, Matilda’s Wish does not disappoint. Now a Beth Prentice, I am anxious to read more.

What a wonderful addition to the lovely collection of Beth Prentice novels!

Tilly Lockhart, after a string of failures ending with her failed cupcake bakery, gets a letter to see an unknown lawyer. Believing it to be about more expenses she can't cover, she takes him cupcakes to try and sway him, but the news leaves her speechless. She has an inheritance from an unknown person with her name, Matilda Mary Lockhart. Only she's not unknown. She's her great aunt. And to claim the inheritance she has 7 days to move to the farm and must live there for a year.

What follows is a sweet and funny story of this city girl moving to the country with the rundown property and ragtag collection of rescued farm animals. There is also a family (3 generations of single men) who have purchased half the original land and a house that was also on the property. Thank heavens for good neighbors who help with problems, sometimes cause them, and always are willing to do anything for some of her cupcakes.

The story is full of humor, friendships, unknown enemies, and hints of romance. Great characters, both human and animals alike. The beautiful descriptions left me almost feeling the breeze or seeing the sunset. All in all it was a book that compelled me to keep reading, and had me smiling and sighing in satisfaction when it was over. Fabulous!

Ms Prentice always delivers a congenial read that leaves you with those warm and fuzzy feelings.

With Matilda's Wish we have Tilly a city girl with a penchant for heels and no idea what it takes to run a farm that she has inherited. The main lead is Noah a swoonworthy neighbour who never fails to be in the right place at the right time to swoop in and save the day.

It was refreshing to read a story that wasn't fixated just on the romance. Yes there were romantic currents but it didn't dominate the story. Tilly rediscovers herself at Dun Roamin and it's a heartwarming tale with lovable sidekicks, quirky animals and sticky situations.

This is Ms Prentice's best book yet and I can't wait to read more.

Matilda’s wish is an endearing story. I enjoyed getting to know the many quirky characters Beth created in this book, the various animals around the farm, and the mystery as it unfolded. Tilly learned that a tree change for a city girl isn’t easy, and life in the country is so different to the one she had been used to in Westport. I laughed at Clifford’s antics, at Tilly's penchant for designer shoes even on a farm, and at Wally’s kind and well-intentioned help which sometimes resulted in disaster. I smiled as Tilly finally gave in to the longing for someone special in her life and Noah walked into that frame. It was a feel good story which left me smiling.

I absolutely loved this book, Tilly finds herself in a situation she never expected on a farm with crazy animals with an inheritance from someone she didn't know. There are plenty of ups and downs as well as getting use to her new surroundings but Noah and the other McKenzie men definitely help and make this city girl dig her heels in no matter what. I can not wait for the next book in this series.

This is a cute and quick read. I feel some of the elements of the book (the romance and the mystery, for example) could have been explored a little bit more richly. There are definitely some good, funny moments that made me laugh out loud - especially all the quirky animals at the farm. A nice story overall.

Cupcake Queen

A delightful story of young Tilly, who excelled at baking unique, tasty cupcakes and who likewise excelled at awkwardness unintended. Her neighbor Noah excelled at being , by chance, often nearby to rescue Tilly when disaster occurred. Great plot suspense to figure who is threatening to harm Tilly and nearly successful killing her. Great read!

Matilda’s Wish by Beth Prentice is a fun mystery read. Tilly (Matilda) inherits a farm on the condition that she lives there for a year. From the city she has no idea about country life and this leads to some amusing situations. Put in there someone is trying to scare her away. A great read.
