The treasure of the bucoleon is an adventure novel by arthur d. howden smith, narrating a tale of "buccaneers and buried gold." Its influence is enormous on popular perceptions of pirates, including such elements as treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen bearing parrots on their shoulders.
I started this book a long time ago. It kept coming up as a reminder in goodreads so I finished it. A group of people go looking for a treasure in Constantinople. This book was a reminder of why I don't like to read British lit. So many words used to say simple things.
This would probably be a better movie. I don't like reading action scenes. I would rather watch them. The characters other than Nikka, the gypsy were flat.
I really enjoyed this old fashioned adventure—a treasure hunt! The language and vocabulary are rich, and the plot was fun. My favorite characters were Nikka and Watkins. This was a book club selection, and I’m really glad to have read it and take in such an old treasure as this story.
3.5 ⭐️ Our monthly library book club read from the Gutenberg project site. I think I’m the 2nd review on Goodreads and I never would have found this one on my own. But it was actually a very fun treasure-seeking read! Looking forward to the club’s discussion!
