The morning the bounty hunters walked into our camp was the beginning of my redemption.
My life had been isolated. Dad had kept me hidden and used his fists to make sure I stayed there. When a bounty on his head puts us on the run, luck will bring a few shifters to my side.
Shifters like me. They will show me what it means to be a part of a pack and a real family. Love will take me by surprise and give me strength I wasn’t aware I was capable of.
But Dad was never acting alone. SOmeone is paying him to keep me away from my mother’s world and they aren’t going to give me freedom easily.
Can I call on my own power and the new love in my life to keep out of the grasp of those who have conspired against me? Will the secrets of my mother’s past keep haunting me?
Trigger warning: Domestic abuse. Redemption of a Wrangled Spirit is a western historical paranormal RH or why choose romance that is a slow burn. Later books in the series will be more steamy.
Liddie grew up in Alabama right next door to her poet Grandmother. Writing has always been a large part of her life. She grew up to marry her high school sweet heart then spent a few years working in health care. Once her daughter was born in 2016, she resolved that it was time to focus on her dream of writing. When not writing, she enjoys watching Disney and Harry Potter movies, hiking, swimming and making arts and crafts with her daughter.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit different from the run of the mill paranormal RH. The book is set in Texas and written as a ‘western’ with bounty hunters and six shooters.
Eva is 24 years old and lives with an abusive alcoholic father. Her mother died when Eva was young but she has lots of memories of her, including sharing her ability as a Spirit Shifter, which Eva inherited. This is one of the more unusual aspects of the book. A Spirit Shifter is someone who can shift from the physical world into the spirit world where they can communicate more effectively with spirits and become intangible on the physical plane.
Eva’s father is trying to escape bounty hunters, when they finally catch up with him. What he doesn’t know is that the bounty hunters are also shifters, but they shift into animals. They understand what Eva is and try to help her escape from her father.
I liked how innocent Eva was. She was kept isolated and her father didn’t really talk to her. Her mother died when she was young and therefore had no one to explain the birds and the bees. She understood the general principle because of reading science books and I imagine living on a farm but that is very different from understanding the reality.
I also liked the way the emotional relationships developed at different rates and that not all the bounty hunters were destined to be her mates.
The characters were all really interesting. They were all distinct with hints of interesting pasts to go along with their current emotional states. I get the feeling that these characters will all be built up over coming books. I don’t know how long the series will be, I just know that they have been given a really solid foundation with this a first book. I can’t wait to find out more about them all, and not just the main characters but those that surround them too.
I was really impressed with the world building in this book and the way the author created this interesting distinct shifter society that runs parallel to but secret from human society. Placing the book in a historical setting makes it lots of fun and enhances the story.
The plot is interesting but not so overwhelming it overshadows the development of the characters or the world building in this first book of the series. The pacing was really well done and kept me reading without feeling dizzy at how quickly everything was moving.
The book doesn’t have a cliffhanger. It leaves off at a good place to finish so you don’t go crazy waiting for the next book, but also intrigues you enough to be excited about when that book will be released. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series.
Cute western style shifter read. Now I usually like me a strong leading lady, and yet this book and it's vibe set the stage for a wonderful read without that. It's a western through and through! Down to the saving our damsel in distress! We also get some mystery and some hot bounty hunter suitors!! I really dug how this author stood authentic! It really made the book so much more enjoyable. I'm only knocking down a star because I wanted to read more about what happened to her mother? Who betrayed her?, Was it in her castle, or stevens castle? And who was the culprit!? And why?! I'm not sure if this is a standalone or a series since I didn't see a number to indicate if so, I'm hoping it is, but if not I'm still satisfied with the read
Redemption of a Wrangled Spirit (Shifters and Six-Shooters Book 1) by Liddie Cain is an amazing story that that I have had the privilege to read. This is book number one in this amazing series that is written by a brand new author for me to read. I am so hooked on this new amazing series that I can not wait to read the rest of this series. I highly recommend this amazing story to everyone who loves reading about western historical and paranormal reverse harem in their stories.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
This was a good read and start for a new series. It had enough drama to keep me turning the pages but I don't really like a couple of the characters. It's shifters and almost all shifter books do the insta love so that's fine. What got me was how she went form a scared, naive, never been around a man to brave vixen overnight. It just didn't fit the circumstances. I will read the next book because I did like the storyline and I love this author.
A paranormal romance that is also a historical western sounded really interesting, and this book definitely delivered. The main character makes a well paced transformation throughout the story. Who wouldn’t love a shifter that is also a cowboy/bounty hunter?
This is a fantastic start to a new series! The main character is engaging and spirited - her growth through the book was fantastic! The cast of shifter characters is broad and I cannot wait to dive deeper into them as the series goes on. Liddie's books continue to be books I cannot put down until the end.
Shifters are real, set in Western times, with a FMC who grows from an abused timid girl into a brave courageous adult by the end. Throw in an evil dad, hidden conspiracy, yummy guys and you have a fantastic start to the series.
This is my honest, voluntary review; I received an arc from the author.
If you like paranormal than you need to read this book where a spirit, yes a spirit shifter, is rescued by a bear and wolf shifter and is later joined by a lynx shifter. I think every shifter species is identified in this romance! An absolutely addicting read that I could not put down!
Shallow and superficial. No romance or depth. Very cliched.
Spoiler: virginal, abused girl gets rescued by sexy shifters and nearly immediately starts having sex with them, finds out she's a princess, gets kidnapped, gets rescued and then has more sex. Could have been better.
I really loved how different the setting in this book was and the world building in it. This was an effortless and overall wellpaced read for me, with great character and an interesting plot to boot. Definitely recommended!
This book was so good. I love the mystery aspect of it. The guys are awesome but I kinda hoped one of the guys was in her group of hotties but still 😭 I can’t wait for book 2
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one. It was a nice surprise I was not sure if I would like it but I found myself not wanting to put the book down.
Well that was a great book. I read it in less than a day. Cain wrote the characters so well I felt like I was right there with them. I cannot wait for the next book.
