Rate this book
When the skin you're in isn't your own-you might be infected.

Clara's brother disappeared and she assumed he was dead. When she discovers he's very much alive, she shifts her focus to finding him. But as a militia member of the Aegis Shield, she's also faced with other responsibilities.

Time is running out.

As one of the infected, Clara is a Frankenstein monster of skin patches and replaced body parts, but that'll only keep her from going full rot for so long. She needs to find her brother while battling Rotters, mercenaries, The Resistance, narcissistic doctors, and even herself. Will she discover the truth behind her brother's disappearance? Will she find him before his time, or hers, runs out? And what happens when she discovers a traitor in her midst?

This concept was very promising, but the story needed more (pardon the pun) meat to it. Transitions from scene to scene were often abrupt, which lessened the impact of the "blank-outs" the character experiences later. I've read many stories with wild medical plot points, but this one was quite a stretch. Without more explanation of the medical reasoning behind the virus and what the doctors were doing (even if it's made up and not based on actual science), the story seemed entirely implausible. I didn't understand why the romance aspect was there between the doctor and the main character. It was creepy because from what I gathered, she was many years younger than him plus the whole he's keeping her alive to sacrifice her for his own well-being. Without building their relationship and the feelings they shared to show how deep the betrayal was, it was just a weird element. If the author republished the book later with some plot points and characterization really fleshed out (another pun, sorry), I'd give it a read, but as it is, this one's not for me.

I am all fan of sci-fi series and this one has joined the shelf. As Blood and Bone cast an eerie foreshadowing on our current Pandemic, Nora offers a fresh (or should I say flesh) twist on the classic zombie character. Vague at first, you find yourself eager to keep reading to fill in all the holes as each new piece seems to produce more questions than answers. Even the ending will have you thinking - wait, what just happened?

I can't wait for the next one!

Nora is my favorite new author! She did an amazing job adding real-world medical science to her fictitious story in a way that is both believable and exciting! I really enjoyed following Clara's saga and am excited to see what the sequel brings (I get the feeling everything is going to change in book 2!!)
