Lake Wood can't shake the feeling that trouble is in the wind for his pretty neighbor, Jane Halstead. First her uncle didn't show when he promised, and now suspicious strangers are lurking about her ranch. But is the trouble purely in his own imagination? Or is there real cause for concern?
When odd happenings, jarring revelations, and convenient accidents pile up, Lake enlists the help of his family and friends to get to the bottom of things. But can they find the truth in time to foil the plot? And what more can Lake do to protect the girl he loves?
Rebekah A. Morris has lived her entire life (as of now) in Missouri. Being home educated during her school years was great, except for writing. That was the worst subject (along with math) that she had to do. It wasn't until after she graduated that she discovered the joys and wonder of writing. Now she can't write enough. After spending six years in research and writing, she completed her first book, "Home Fires of the Great War," a 500+ page, historical fiction about home life in the United States and Canada during the First World War. Since then, she has been an avid writer and always has more than one story going on at once because only one story at a time got tiring and dull.
This was a good continuation of this series. ;) It was more suspenseful than the first two and, though the first two's mysteries interested me and kept me reading, this one's definitely had my interest held even more. I was excited to see characters from the previous books pop up, not to mention the big grin that I felt spread over my face when Newsy Jones showed up! I also really enjoyed seeing the good relationships Lake had with his parents, younger sisters, the older adults in town, and of course Jane. And, as with all of this series so far, the constant mention of the Lord and turning to Him first thing was something I really appreciated!
I love the Woodbreak series so much. Lake Wood was no exception. This mystery was even more suspenseful than the other two. Although I guessed part of the answer quite early on, I wasn't fully sure I was right and I just couldn't stop reading! I liked Lake very much, and Jane too. I also really enjoyed seeing characters from the first two books reappear, even though the book is set over twenty years after Anna Wood ends. I was very glad that Jim and Anna were not faded out, but rather Lake constantly consulted them and sought their help. I also liked the new characters, such as Sheriff Law, Newsy, and Jed. Jed was my favourite, and I really hope we see more of him in future books! :D The romance was well done, not dragged out or rushed (well, I mean, part of it certainly was, but that's different! XD) And as with the rest of the series, every scene is so well described, without ever being dull or wordy, that you feel as if you are standing right beside the characters. I highly recommend every single one of this series, and I look forward to seeing who the next book will be about!
Let me tell you – this is one of those series that I fell in love with. And isn’t even a genre I love. Within two days, I read three Woodbreak books. This book was a little different than the last and stages new characters. Just like with the other books in this series, I couldn’t put it down. Some things were a little sudden in this book, but it was just as good as the previous ones.
This is now my favorite of the Woodbreak books! Lake Wood is full of excitement and adventure! The characters were great and the story kept you interested.
(After reading this 3rd book, I might even like this series better than the Triple Creek Ranch series....;)
Loved book 3 even better than the first two books! I really enjoyed the different characters. The "bad guys" were different enough from each other to keep them apart.
This didn't take away from the book at all, but did all Lake's sisters live in town during the week? Maybe I just missed that;)
