The Way, the Truth, and the Life by Marcellino D Ambrosio is a book of approximately 200 pages that stands alone but also accompanies the 10-week video study program presented by Catholic experts Marcellino D Ambrosio, Jeff Cavins, and Edward Sri. In this book, Catholics walk step by step with Jesus from his infancy to the Ascension. Anchored in the life of Christ as presented in the Gospels, it explores the entirety of Jesus life who he is, what he is really like, what he taught, what he did for our salvation, and what this means for us as Catholics today. This study shows, in a simple way, how Jesus, the Incarnate God, is both fully divine and fully human his intimacy with the Father, his revelation of the heart of the Father, and his extraordinary influence on his disciples, his followers, and even his enemies. Most importantly, this encounter with Christ will inspire and empower you to center your entire life in him as you come to know and love him in an ever-deeper and more intimate way.
Raised in Italian/Irish neighborhood in Providence, RI, Marcellino D’Ambrosio never thought about being anything else but Catholic. But like other Catholic teens, his faith was the last place he looked for fulfillment. Following in the footsteps of his parents, both professional performers in their single years, Marcellino set his sights on stardom, playing bass guitar in several popular rock bands by the time he was 16. At that time he encountered a group of Catholics whose Christian life was an exciting adventure, an adventure worth living for. So he laid his bass guitar aside and embarked on a road that led to a Ph.D. in historical theology from the Catholic University of America. His doctoral dissertation, written under the direction of the renowned Jesuit theologian, Avery Cardinal Dulles, focused on one of the theological lights of the Second Vatican Council, Henri Cardinal de Lubac, and his recovery of biblical interpretation of the Early Church fathers.
Though a specialist in the interpretation of scripture and tradition, Dr. D’Ambrosio’s teaching has covered a broad range of subjects from historical, dogmatic, and sacramental theology to evangelization, ecumenism, and Vatican II. Yet throughout his academic career, Dr. D’Ambrosio always remained deeply involved in pastoral work, especially teen evangelization and Hispanic ministry, assuring that his teaching remained relevant to the challenges of everyday life.
Dr. D’Ambrosio, the father of five and a business owner, brings to his teaching a practical, down-to-earth perspective that makes his words easy to understand and put into practice. Audio and video recordings of his popular teaching are internationally distributed. He often appears on the international Eternal Word Television Network is regularly heard on nationally syndicated radio shows such as "Catholic Answers Live." Dr. D'Ambrosio has been repeatedly called upon to serve as an expert commentator on religious and moral issues for Fox News Geraldo Rivera, At Large and Bill O'Reilly's radio show.
In 2001 Dr. D’Ambrosio left his position at the University of Dallas to develop the work of Crossroads Productions, the apostolate of Catholic renewal and evangelization that he co-founded twenty years ago, and to more directly oversee the growth of Wellness Opportunities Group a company dedicated to helping people improve the quality of their lives physically, mentally, and financially. He, his wife Susan, and their five children, reside just outside of Dallas, TX.
I read Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Life in tandem with the Bible study of the same name. Unfortunately, the group meeting was a victim of COVID closures, and I completed the course - very, very slowly - on my own.
This book can be read independently of the study, and I found it both engaging and enlightening. Despite being a lifelong practicing Catholic, participating in other Bible studies, and even taking some college courses related to the Bible, this book and the associated workbook and video gave me a better visual and relational understanding of the Holy Land (which I've never visited) than anything I've come across. The locations in the Gospels have become real to me, not just another name on the page.
If you're looking at understanding Jesus's life in its proper context of time, place, and Scripture, I highly recommend this as a resource for personal study that will not only help to increase your knowledge, but develop your relationship with God as well.
Completed this book along with the workbook and accompanying videos with our parish Bible study. While the book and videos were very interesting and informative, the workbook was not the same caliber. The book is definitely worth reading.
It’s hard to figure out what to say about this book. I started reading it with my women’s group as part of our spring study. COVID-19 killed that effort but I decided to at least finish the book.
There were times that it felt too simple and that it was just covering material I had already studied. But that’s not really a fair evaluation because, every time I got ready to give up on it, I would suddenly encounter a new insight.
This book is easy to read and it’s very rewarding. It has really helped me continue to move forward during a difficult time.
Do you need a good introduction to the life of Jesus as presented in the Gospels? Look no further than Marcelinho D’Ambrosio’s Jesus: The Way, the Truth and the Life.
In this little book, D’Ambrosio provides an overview of the life of Jesus, commenting on key aspects of his life and ministry. This book is designed as a part of Ascension Press’ study guide of the same name. I did not do the study, so I can’t comment on how much it complements it.
There is very little technical detail in this book and so it is very accessible. This would be a great introduction to the gospels and life of Jesus.
I read this book as part of a study led by a retired priest. Those who are part of the class vote on what topic we want to study each spring and fall, and while this content was not my first choice, I am glad we covered it together. I learned so much about the behind-the-scenes of Jesus' life that explained a lot about the culture he lived in and the nuances of his ministry. The book could not cover everything, as some things have been lost to history or just depend on one's faith, but it did highlight a lot of the significance about Jesus that has not come through to me just by attending Mass.
This book was a gift from my goddaughter. There were passages that strengthened my faith and drew me to a deeper relationship with Christ. My most favorite was to learn that the decision to make Jesus the center of my life, to relinquish control and give the lead to Him, is a decision that needs to be renewed daily. That a theologian, a priest, taught this humble attestation to faith is a huge comfort to one who feels they are alone at times.
I red this book along with a bible study that I did. The book can stand alone. I really enjoyed the authors writing style. The book gives a lot of information about the culture and geography during Jesus time - giving a much bigger picture and context for the life of Jesus. I’d definitely read another book by the author, as well as, do a study of his.
I read this as part of a study with some friends. It gave me some great insights. I didn't get to watch every video but the videos I saw were great. I love seeing places where Jesus lived and worked. D'Amrosio is very engaging in the videos.
I read this book as part of the Ascension Press Bible Study and I'm so glad I did. D'Ambrosio's knowledge of the historical times of Jesus and his deep Biblical understanding deliver a powerful look at Jesus Christ our savior in his own time and his influence through the centuries.
I did the study series this book goes with. Both this book and the study series are amazing. Both are full of information to help you grow closer to Jesus by learning more about Him.
I read this book to deepen my faith journey during lent. It was powerful. So many times, the daily Mass readings corresponded with chapters in D'Ambrosio's book. It was such an enlightening experience.
A wonderful walk through the life of Jesus. A great reminder and so many details that I did not know. It was like my Bible study group knitted a sweater in which we included our deepest beliefs and shared experience. I did a lot of highlighting so I can revisit the high points. Loved it!
Easy to read, illuminating and very helpful for context and development in understanding Jesus. This book brings to light so much significance. I highly recommend.
Read alongside parish Bible Study. Helpful in providing context and timeline of the events of the gospels. Best insights found in the chapters on Good Friday and the Passion.
This is an amazing book! I know a lot about Jesus but this book showed me things about him that I never knew and I came to know him in a much deeper way. 100% recommend!
This book was part of bible study series that included a workbook & video. I highly recommend it. I learned a lot about Jesus. This book is easy read and can be read without doing the bible study.
