I’ve never been a planner. Thinking things through isn’t my strong suit. I’m more of a wing it and see how it goes kind of girl.
I eat pie for breakfast and I don’t have the best track record for committing to things, the exception being where my family is concerned.
So, when my identical twin learns she can’t get pregnant, I’m determined to help. Even if it means stretchy pants and a sex hiatus.
But, before my waistline disappears, along with my sex life, I set out in search for a night of no-strings-attached sex. It all seemed so simple, until…
I have the best sex of my life!
The fertility hormones put my libido into overdrive!
I run into my one-night stand at the fertility clinic…
Yeah, the sexy doctor I went home with is that kind of a doctor. His skillful hands know every part of a woman’s body. When I see him in his white lab coat, my body knows what it wants. More of him. But just until these hormones get under control. Sounds like a good plan, right?
Well, it is author's debut novel and it shows. Long monologue to describe the character's personality or drive. It feels more like a women fiction rather than romance. Barely there chemistry but the characters constantly say "our chemistry is so strong." Bland hero.
Anyway it is about Brooke, 30, who doesn't want kids but is willing to be a surrogate for her twin sister. She meets a guy, Cole, 36, in a coffee shop, who is a doctor. Brooke is a sowing wild outs kinda girl and Cole is... just a guy. I'm sorry he's kinda boring. Anyway you know what's the conflict here. She's about to be pregnant of someone else's baby and she doesn't think their relationship should continue.
Will they have a happy marriage? Absolutely. They adore and love and respect each other. And imo, If Brooke died, Cole would devote his time to their grandchildren. And if Cole died first, she would lose the love of her life for sure but she would become a cougar, that's for sure lol
*I won this novel for my Amazon Kindle from a giveaway on GoodReads and was asked for an honest review*
This is my read by this author. What an excellent debut novel from a fresh and upcoming author. It was really well written and I just could not put it down. It was fun, sexy, full of chemistry, entertaining and quirky. It just all balanced out well in this novel and I loved every minute reading it. I could totally relate to the characters in my own way so of course, I had to keep reading to see how the journey ended. This is a highly recommended novel and author for all you romance readers out there that want something new and different! Happy Reading!!
The book is a good romantic comedy read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is an enjoyable funny romance read.

A fun quick read to bring me out of a reading slump. A somewhat choatic but very likable FMC meets the charming MMC that is persistent and knows what he wants. Great spice and many swoony moments. This authors first novel. I liked it
I am really liking Erin Hawkins’ writing. The fact this is her debut romance novel? Wow. This felt different than a typical romance - being that the steamy passion scenes are a result of a casual hookup and not a result of chapters of tension building (They still do be nice n steamy scenes throughout though don’t get me wrong). I kinda missed the tension building, both physically and relationally, but in the same turn appreciated the break from formula. It ultimately worked because of Hawkins’ writing, particularly the distinct voices she gives her female characters. I’ve read two of her books now, and the men are dreamy in their own reserved, pussy whipped way, but the women feel alive like they are actual real people I have been friends with or have shared similar thoughts myself. This female protagonist shouldn’t have even been that likable on paper due to her unresolved trauma and ensuing commitment issues, but the author made me love her for who she is, because she felt real. Human. (Maybe the first and only romance book I’ve thought “hmm HE should probably not be with her, she’s a little toxic for him” rather than the familiar red flags 🚩 we typically get from male romance leads. Lol). I liked the side plot that was also kind of the main focus of this book ? being the twin sister bond and what it means to love - not just romantically, but to love family and friends and allow yourself to be open to the vulnerability of life, too. I highlighted several passages that felt like exceptionally “real” writing to me - like oh wow yes that’s totally how she would react here, or oh yikes yep have had that thought before. I hope to see much much more from Erin Hawkins in the future.
After watching her twin sister struggle for years with infertility, Brooke offers to be her surrogate.
Brooke meets Cole at a bookstore when she accidentally bumps into him and spills his drink all over him. They don’t exchange numbers, but they both can’t stop thinking about their exchange. They meet again one night and sleep together, but Brooke sneaks out after Cole falls asleep.
When Brooke goes with her sister to her doctor to start the surrogacy process and to see if she is a good candidate, she runs into Cole, who is a doctor but works on a different floor.
This was okay! Brooke and Cole don’t have the best communication skills, and in the end, Cole only apologizes after Brooke comes to his apartment. Brooke wasn't my favorite; she made a selfless decision to help her sister, but I didn't connect with her character.
Best Laid Plans is the author's debut novel, and I did enjoy it. The plot was good, but there was too much telling and not showing.
✨ one night stand ✨ strangers to lovers ✨ doctor x interior designer ✨ sister’s surrogate ✨ dual pov
After several failed attempts at IVF and not being able to afford a surrogate, Brooke offers to Be a surrogate to her twin sister. She decides to go out on a one night stand before having to give up sex. She meets a sexy doctor that rocks her world but she tried her best to avoid him but seems to keep running into him. Cole doesn’t have time for dating. He barely has time for hookups but when he met Brooke there was a connection but he couldn’t figure out why she kept running. He was determined to find out her secret.
So. This story has a lot of premise. The plot is good. Cole is amazing. My only issue is the first 60 percent was sex. The sex was hot. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind sex as long as it doesn’t overshadow the story. Now. If this is down as erotic romance please forgive me because that changes things and makes more sex important. The end is very good and quite a twist!
I loved this book! This is my first book by this author, but it won’t be my last. It was funny, steamy and an all-around enjoyable book. In this book the typical roles are reversed. The female protagonist is the commitment-phobe and the male is looking for a more permanent relationship. It was a nice change up from the norm. It took me a little while to warm up to Brooke. She definitely comes off a bit shallow and selfish at first but later you can see that she’s mostly just trying to protect her heart. You can’t help but love Cole. He’s a hot, sexy doctor that’s kind, caring and knows his way around a woman’s body and to top it off he’s looking for a woman to love and cherish forever. That’s enough to make any woman melt!
Brooke is bouncing through life one one-night stand at a time at a time. She enjoys sex but doesn’t want to deal with the complexity of a relationship Brooke’s twin sister Ellie is the exact opposite. She has her whole life planned out. She’s happily married to the man she loves and they’re trying to have a baby which they so desperately want. Ellie is having difficulties and the doctors are telling her that it is very unlikely that she’ll be able to carry a baby to term. Brooke offers to be their surrogate and they get the ball rolling. Brooke gets the all clear from the doctor and they start the hormone treatments to prep her for implantation. Brooke decides to have one last fling before going on a sex hiatus until after the baby is born. Cole is her fling and she walks out on him without saying goodbye, only they keep running in to each other. Brookes raging hormones get the better of her and before she knows it, she’s in a relationship with Cole and it scares her to now end but Coles doesn’t know about the surrogacy. Will she tell him, or will she just walk away from what they have? Can Brooke find a way to open up her heart and let go of her fears to take a chance on a relationship with Cole?

4.5 stars This is an excellent debut romance by this author. It is written in first person from a dual POV. It is well-edited, has good pacing, and a heart warming story line while packing in plenty of heat.
I found this book in a roundabout way, but I am not disappointed in the least. I love Brooke's relationship with her identical twin Ellie. I love that they lean on each other, and that Ellie's husband Josh is a good guy. As secondary characters, Ellie and Josh have a sweet and supportive relationship that models the way a good relationship can be to Brooke. I felt like I understood Brooke and why she chose to avoid relationships and be very opposite of her pragmatic twin. I totally loved Cole. Up until now he has been focused on building his career and he is finally able to pursue his dream of love and family. He also has a sister in a happy marriage, which is wonderful to read.
I love how free spirited Brooke is when she meets Cole, and I understood her reservations and even fear about the big feelings she had for him from the beginning. The chemistry between Brooke and Cole is combustible, and I really enjoyed reading their hot times and their sweet times together. I love the heart the author puts into the story. I really enjoyed not knowing how the story was going to play out- it kept me guessing on the details. I love the way Cole falls in love with Brooke unconditionally. I love the growth Brooke experiences as a result of her feelings for Cole and her devotion to her sister. I adored the fabulous happy ending. I will definitely be reading more by this author. I definitely recommend this book to others.
An interior designer decides to be a surrogate for her twin sister, right when she meets the love of her life.
Brooke loves her job and her sister and doesn't see herself wanting a relationship any time soon. But when her sister goes through the heartbreaking experience of IVF and fertility, Brooke volunteers to have their child as their surrogate. Just as she is trying to convince herself this is her new path, she accidentally spills a green smoothie on an unforgettable man.
Cole Matthews is an OBGYN at age 35 thinks it might be time to work less and start a family. When the most intriguing woman he has ever met refused to give him her number, he couldn't help but wonder if he will ever find her again.
He finds her again while sharing the best pie he has ever eaten. Cole is delighted to find Brooke again, but wonders if he will be able to keep her. Brooke can't help but feel the attraction to Cole, but a relationship is the last thing she wants right now as she has the next 9 months carrying her sister's child. Will Cole be able to convince her he is worth the risk to her plans?
Dual POV, sweet romance with light hearted storyline. The emotional intelligence is mostly one sided for this story. Brooke is frustrating as a protagonist as she struggles to be emotionally mature but she does experience a character arc. Cole is tall, charming, and perfect with a sunny perspective. Much of the conflict and anxiety in the story could be solved with an honest conversation. This book is a quick read with instalove, yet an enjoyable read. Overall I'm left with a sense I could have used less of some things and more depth. Nice HEA and epilogue.

Brooke has just made the decision to help her twin sister and her sister’s husband by being their surrogate. She’s watched, heartbroken, at the devastation on her sister’s face when treatment after treatment has failed. So, when Brooke meets Cole, she decides that he’s perfect for her last one-night stand before she becomes pregnant. He’s handsome, kind, and has a nice sense of humor. Too bad Brooke’s not into a relationship at this time. After she sneaks out of his house, she’s resolved herself to never see him again. Even though the sex had been amazing. That is until she realizes that she left her paperwork in the office at the fertility clinic she and her twin had just walked out of. When she runs back in, she sees Cole. Dr. Cole Matthews, one of the OBGYN’s the clinic refers high risk pregnancies to. Will Brooke be able to resist the hot doctor and carry through being surrogate for her twin or will she fall for the devastatingly handsome man who wants her in his life? Just holy wow!! This book is hawt!!! There are so many steamy sex scenes that I swear my glasses fogged up numerous times. Between the hot sex, the engaging characters, and the wonderful writing, I didn’t want this book to end. I can’t believe that this is a first book from this author, it’s great! I can’t wait to read more from this author! **I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Erin Hawkins' debut novel, Best Laid Plans, is absolutely brilliant. I could not put it down and read it cover-to-cover in one sitting. Her characters are written with such authenticity, I felt everything Brooke felt from the first page to the last. She was completely relatable, and it was also fascinating to see how she approached life so differently than her identical twin, Ellie, after their parents' death. But the real story is the relationship between Brooke and Cole. Fate keeps throwing them in each other's paths. They want different things - Brooke looking to just scratch an itch before she becomes a surrogate for her sister and brother-in-law; Cole ready to settle down and start his own family after establishing his medical practice - but their connection is instantaneous and undeniable. However, Brooke spirals when she realizes she actually feels something real for Cole, while he is super sweet and patient, recognizing her penchant for running for what it is: fear. These two are what relationship goals are all about, finding something you are not even looking for and fighting to keep it, even when it is scary as hell.
I cannot wait for Ms Hawkins' sophomore novel. If Best Laid Plans is any indication, I'll be in for yet another sleepless night.

This is definitely a one-sitting read, and the story is quite fresh but still cliche. Brooke decided to be a surrogate for her sister who haven't been able to get pregnant after so many tries. Before her D-day, she decided to have the last fun and meet Cole, a doctor who "accidentally" worked at the clinic her sister went and then having a one night stand. Long story short, Brooke was a bit confusing. She basically went back and forth between "wanting' him and swore to stay back from intimate inter course due to her going to be a surrogate. It's dumbfounding sometimes lol. Cole himself was a straightforward and a gentleman at heart: at some point I thought he was too good for Brooke, but who am I to meddle anyway. He admitted that he was interested in her, and tried to pursue her and gave her anything she wants, yet she'd always left everytime after she got what she wanted from him (you know what I mean) and basically kept him in the dark about her surrogate situation. And even when he knows about it, he wasn't mad, he was supportive of her decision about helping her sister. In the end, Brooke was pregnant with him and her sister MiRaCuLoUsLy got pregnant too and that's it.
It's a fine read, but nothing swoon-worthy reads either. Definitely one-sitting read when you have some free time: in the middle of waiting something kind of situations.

I truly enjoyed Best Laid Plans as some of the things which happened, I could totally see happening to me since Murphy's Law is my bestie. We have Brooke, a girl who likes to shoot from the hip (I would totally go insane except eating pie for breakfast), and who wants nothing to do with commitment. Her twin sister can't get pregnant so Brooke is about to carry a baby for said twin. She decides that she wants one last hurrah with a hook up, and has a fantastic one with a man named Cole, but she leaves without saying farewell. However, fate has decided her future, so when she goes to get that baby planted, she runs into him again since he's a doctor at the clinic she's going to. He's more mature than she is because he wants a future with someone special, (Isn't it refreshing to read about a hero who isn't a flight risk?!) Please understand that I did love Brooke, but she totally got on my nerves more than once, making things more complicated, especially since she kept what she's doing for her sister a secret, and secrets always come out. To see how it all plays out, you know what to do! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
I loved this so much! I can’t believe this is her debut novel, it’s so well done! I am a huge fan of her writing since I read Reluctantly Yours (and the two that followed), so I couldn’t resist seeing what else she had written. And I wasn’t disappointed!
This was a beautiful romcom and completely unique to anything else I’ve read. I really loved the MMC, Cole. He was literally a wonderful human. He was patient and honest and supportive, while also being a hot fucking doctor who knows how to perform 👀🥵 I loved the two of them together and I loved seeing Brooke’s character development. The story was definitely a little sad at the beginning (if fertility is a sensitive topic for you, be prepared), but it had such a beautiful ending! One I’d actually started hoping for around the halfway mark 👏🏼 I loved the connection they had and the jealousy Brooke started to discover! Clearly, they were meant to be. Also, how many times can you keep running into someone and deny its destiny, right?
Erin Hawkins’ writing makes me feel happy every time. I trust the process because any complications or third act breakups…you know it’ll be worth it. Oh and the spice? Excellent 🔥

This book was not at all what I expected, in the best possible way!!
I loved it, it fell in a very different route than I thought it was going to take. And the sweet amazing story that it was made me 2ant to know more. It was a story that I just didn't want to put down but at the same time I didn't want it to end.
I loved how Cole and Brookes different personalities played so well of each other, and how it was complimentary to the story line, like a real life relationship that started out in an unconventional way.
I love Cole and his approach to Brooke and her skiddish behavior, how he was blunt but not possessive, honest but not overbearing.
I love Brooke and her selfless nature when it comes to those she loves , but hated how she didn't take the time to focus on what she needed and was not always 100% honest with herself.
I am a fan, and look forward to seeing more from this Author later one.
Brooke is footloose and fancy free with her way of life, she only just got a "grown up" job and is enjoying everything about her life. Brooke makes the choice to help her sister create the family she has always wanted, this means that she needs to have one last night on the town before she starts this process. Not only does Brooke succeed in finding a man for the last night of fun, she ends up having the best sex of her life. Of course just when Brooke finally has a plan for the future something happens to make her question those plans. Can she have her cake and eat it too? Can she do both help her sister and keep Cole?
This was the first read for me by this author and it will not be the last. I really enjoyed reading Brooke and Cole's story. I do feel it was a bit wordy in parts, but it turned out to be amazingly hot with just the right amount of drama. I give this 4 stars.
This was a good book. Twin sisters living two different lives. One a steadfast and secure who just wants to have a baby, the other a free spirit who is still figuring it all out.
Brooke is a woman who does not want children. She meets the lovely Cole and while he is everything that she wants, she isn't sure who she is so she run from him (literally) when things heats up.
Cole is a stable guy who likes Brooke and even though she disappears on him several times, he still is there waiting for her and wanting her.
This is a short read, its a feel good book that will keep you captivated. My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is taht Cole is at time unreasonably available. For a handsome, single doctor there HAS to be women who are less complicated and less afraid that he could love, but I guess the heart wants what it wants. I will read another book by this author.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It’s nice to get a break from the dark, bully romances. Best Laid Plans was intriguing, inspiring, steamy and incredibly well written. This was my first book by Erin Hawkins, but definitely won’t be my last.
The story follows twin sisters and their life after losing their parents in a car accident. What’s interesting about this story is Brooke takes on the role traditionally held by the male characters in books. She is not in favor of commitment, preferring hookups to real relationships. Cole, the hot AF doctor IS looking for commitment. Their love story has it’s ups and down, but it’s downright delicious reading about it.
All the characters in this book have depth, are distinctly unique and relatable. I am eager to read another book from Erin, her writing style was right up my ally.
A fun, sexy read: My attention was captured from the very beginning and I thought it was very well rounded for a debut novel. Brooke was lovely in that she was flawed, yet also kind hearted and generous in her own way. When she offered to be a surrogate mother for her sister, little did she know that the doctor she runs into would be a one night stand that she hadn't been able to stop thinking about. Cole had also been hoping to see Brooke again and I liked how supportive he was. Their journey felt authentic yet all wasn't smooth sailing for these two! I enjoyed the ending and was so glad that things worked out for them. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a debut from this author and my goodness, she is certainly one to look out for in the future. Brooke agrees to become a surrogate for her identical twin sister and brother-in-law, and when the hormone treatment have her hormones raging she decides to have a one-night stand before she has to become celibate for the next 9 months, and sexy Cole is the one she chose. Not expecting to meet Cole again Brooke is in a spin when she crosses him at the fertility clinic where he is one of the doctors. Can sweet and caring Cole convince commitment phobia Brooke to take a chance on a relationship? This is a well written story which has off the chart’s chemistry, and is a humorous, entertaining, ad steamy read. I look forward to reading more from this author and recommend this story for all.
Brooke & Cole's love story is not straight forward. I have never read a book like this before & recommend it's hot & funny ❤
Brooke's sister Ellie her twin couldn't get pregnant so Brooke said she would carry her child. AND Ellie & Josh had a miracle pregnant. Reminds me of my parents the doctors said they couldn't have kids and now there is 3 of us. Never give up hope.
Now back track. We go through the process of a surrogate and I love that journey. Then we come to Cole 🔥 is a doctor and he helps families with difficult pregnancy.
Fate brought them back together. One night of passion 🥵. Then a hospital appointment for her sister and Cole was on the same floor helping a fellow doctor. When she left her appointment she runs into him and their story began...
Terrific! Sweet, sexy, a few laughs and a few tears. Brooke is a fabulous heroine. A little kooky but a terrific sister. I loved that she owned her sexuality and went after what she wanted. Her reasons for avoiding romantic relationships is so sad. Her love for her twin was a wonderful part of the story and the sacrifice Brooke was willing to make was overwhelming. When she has a run in with a hot doctor it’s the cutest. Cole is a dream hero and his treatment of Brooke is heart melting. What starts out as a one time thing soon turns into so much more. The surprise wasn’t too obvious and held for the end. Talk about an ending…emotional and sweet. This is an easy read with delightful characters and a sexy hot romance. I loved it and look forward to more from this author.
4⭐️ This was cute. Quick and light rom Com! Brooke and Cole. Brooke is a twin who is happily living the single life with a fear of commitment. She decided to help her sister by being her gestational surrogate. She randomly bumps into Cole, they have instant chemistry. Brooke is happy to have a last fling with him before she starts this pregnancy journey. Cole was SO lovable! He is an OBGYN doc at the fertility clinic. They catch feelings but it scares Brooke. I enjoyed this story but Brooke’s fear of commitment and just not speaking her feelings to Cole was frustrating! I was scared at first bc I don’t love a pregnancy trope but it the plot was majority hormones! This book was pretty spicy!! Sweet ending and epilogue.
I was nervous when I read the description of this book- just frankly a bit weirded out about how on earth one is the surrogate for their twin with all these plot twists without a major upset between what seem to be two very close family members. But I was pleasantly surprised. So surprised that I ended reading this in only a few hours as it was so easy to connect with the characters and the storyline I can see how there may be a few triggers in this book when it comes to difficult in pregnancy, and death of parents, but despite all of this the book remained easy to read and quite lighthearted even amongst heavier topics I really enjoyed this and was surprised to see this was a debut novel! Will definitely suggest for lighthearted reads filled with little plot twists
Loved this funny romantic book with Brooke and Cole who meet by chance at a book store and keep running into each other. She has a twin that is having fertility problems and so she has agreed to be a surrogate for her not thinking she would ever want a serious relationship or family. When she meets Cole who is a GYN for problem pregnancies she never expected to feel like she wanted more from a guy besides the big O. They continue to see each other until she can get implanted for the pregnancy but never told Cole so when he finds out from someone else he is hurt. The ending is everything I had hoped for and more. This is so entertaining and loved the characters I could not stop reading.
If you want to read a story with a great balance of sweetness and heat, then you need to immediately get this book!!
This book was the perfect combination of sweet, passionate, romantic, and all the Feels. Must read romance to wrap up the summer! I loved every minute of this book. The characters were dynamic, the storyline weaves around you and doesn't let you go, and you will absolutely fall in love with this story. If you want to read a story with a great balance of sweetness and heat, then you need to immediately get this book. I know you won’t be able to put it down, once you start reading it. I’m really looking forward to reading more from this author and this is a fantastic debut book and totally deserves the 5 stars ⭐️ I’ve given this book. Happy reading everyone!!
This was a great book grabbing me form the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. It's a funny, entertaining, hot and steamy romance of Brooke and Cole. She hits if off with him but is planning to be her sisters surrogate for a baby. She’s in a relationship with Cole and it scares her and Coles doesn’t know about the surrogacy. It's a great story with characters with great chemistry and well written and I can't wait to read more.
