Interesting story of an interesting time, but I feel as though there were missed opportunities to make it a better book. The first half largely tells the story of him being a ground crew member during the Battle of Britain. Interesting... not gripping. His active duty seems almost glossed over except for a few notable incidents and the loss of a good portion of his original crew merits barely a paragraph. Finally, the book ends with him being taken prisoner of war, which was probably a very entertaining story, if he had chosen to tell it... which he didn't.
A really good book that gives you an insight as to what the experiences were of a WW2 bomber crew, some of the stories are chilling, the survival rate was not a good one , many fatalities occurring during training. Recommended reading.
