The Realms of Erin’tarr In the time when the dragons roam and the wardogs rage, the elemental light of Enarie has awoken and the race to find it begins. But where, in the six realms, is it?
Ava of Elliedew Ava has a secret; one that will condemn her to death if the villagers find out. It is for this reason that she rarely ventures from her home in the Elliedew, where she attempts to enjoy a semblance of peace away from whispering rumours. But even that is taken away when the secret begins to rip her mind apart. Reflections and dreams are no longer safe and leaving the Elliedew in search of answers might be her only choice. However, the realms beyond her little home are frightfully dangerous. There are witches and demons, vampires and sorcerers, and many other creatures that, if tales are to be believed, will gleefully hunt and kill an unarmed girl. Ava knows fear only too well, but courage… is that beyond her grasp?
Rharn of the Kyra Summoned by the griffin-wizard, Rharn agrees to undertake a quest; track down the Enarie Light and bring it to Tellus Deeth. With the rest of the Kyra at his back, the mission seems simple enough. After all, the Realms of Erin’tarr hold no terror they've not faced before… or so Rharn thought. Little is he prepared when, upon meeting Ava, his duty is tested in the form of desire. Suddenly, his usually steady heart clenches at the thought of her in danger. But he is an immortal warrior who lives by the sword. He does not submit to emotion!
With only the Kyra and one would-be knight standing between her freedom and the demons of Raggoth, will Ava survive the arduous journey to find the answers she so desperately seeks? And will she ever see her cherished Elliedew again?
If you like the romance of old-school fantasy, then you'll love this high-stakes magical adventure of good Vs. evil by author A.D. Broadby
I am an indie author residing in Tasmania, Australia. I have a passion for writing romantic fantasy/high fantasy, which I strongly believe was influenced by my time growing up in the 80's/90's, where my imagination was captured by the works of Jim Henson and such movies as The Never Ending Story, The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, and many other magical stories.
As inspiration, I look to the beautiful Tasmanian landscape and its unique wildlife. So, watch out for giant Sugar Gliders and Tasmanian Devil-inspired shape-shifting creatures when you venture into my book worlds.
I love chocolate (not coffee), dogs, sitcoms, epic battles, gallantry, and a touch of romance.

Firstly, let me state that Fantasy Fiction simply isn't my genre...therefore I approached the reading of this novel with a sense of dread...I am pleased to report that my feeling was misplaced and that I really enjoyed this book! Fantasy fiction for me has always been..."we must now travel to the (insert name here)...our journey with be both difficult and dangerous"....generally my eyes glaze over and the long overdue house clean begins to look enticing.
"Myth and Legend, Gate to the Ancient Realm" was a wonderful literary surprise. This is Broadby's first novel, with the promise of more in the wings. She has created a wondrous world of amazing and beautiful creatures, and generated a story that is exciting and imaginative. Her writing is confident and thoughtful and it is clear she cares deeply for each of her characters. Yes, the story does involve passage from one place to another, but this physical progression serves as a vehicle to mirror the personal and emotional progress and development of the characters through the course of the story. The characters are well-drawn and complex, and very likeable, displaying both light and shade. The landscape is an unexpected character in the novel, the author has taken the time to describe the settings and environment in beautiful word-pictures. The main ideas explored in the novel include the nature of truth and friendship, overcoming fear, loneliness and gaining self-acceptance, what it means to feel different from those around you, the importance of believing in yourself, self discovery and feeling comfortable in your own skin. These may seem like heavy topics but the author approaches the novel with a lightness and gentle humour which is both engaging and enjoyable. The richness of the interplay within the relationships cultivated between the characters is to me the heart of this novel. As a rule I don't describe plots, I don't see that as the role of the reviewer. I was happily taken along as a passenger on this well-crafted journey, and based on the cliff-hanger ending I look forward to reading the second instalment.
This was a great start to a series, the world building was great and I really enjoyed getting to know these characters. It left me wanting more in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fantasy with a dash of romance and a pinch of action with well developed characters following a strong plot sequence and exploring themes of self discovery, friendship and acceptance make this a very good read even for the non fantasy fan like myself. Keen as mustard for the second book.
