The entire series in one volume - it’s all here, from Mary to Mildred, and everything in between.
Tim Russell bet his last dollar on a run-down farmhouse in New Hampshire - but had no idea when he did so that there were two hidden graves on his property. The house, he soon learns, is full of someone else’s family problems - and that family has been dead for over a century.
This book is out of print but WILL RETURN as "The Legend of Mildred Wells."
Michael Clark is an author of horror fiction, having written the books Hell on High and The Legend of Mildred Wells.
He is also the author of "The Patience of a Dead Man" trilogy (including "The Patience of a Dead Man, "Dead Woman Scorned," "Anger is an Acid," and "The Patience of a Dead Man: COMPLETE"), which are out of print to make room for "The Legend of Mildred Wells," a retelling of TPOADM optimized as a standalone novel.
Well, I took my time with this book, took a long time to get to it to be honest. How long has it been out? A couple of years? Oh, well. It's never too late really.
The complete edition is the one to own. It's three books in one, and easily one of the best ghost stories I have ever read. What really stands out here is the dedication. Writing something on this scale, it just...well...it blows my mind. The detail. Man...It's difficult to provide such a rich level without becoming boring. It's true though. Maybe the short chapters helped, I don't know, but there is constantly something going on here. It's a proper page turner. I think the different direction of each book as well as keeping it as a whole is what gives it the edge. It doesn't stick to one track. You could say the train stops and lets people wander around for a little while, take in the scenery, the vibe, but you know that train's waiting for you to get back on board. It's truly admirable. I never go into book details. That's not my thing. I just usually say how I feel about it. There is usually enough detail in the synopsis to know if something is gonna work for you or not anyway. Just know that this is a great piece of work. Yes, it's a chunker of a book, but it doesn't feel like it. Don't let the candle burn out on this one. Pick it up. You'll be glad you did.
I won't wait as long to read Mike's next book. That's for sure.
I have just finished Michael Clark's beast of a book 'The Patience of a Dead Man-Complete) and i am still shaking from the marvelous literary trip.
Michael Clark was awesome enough to send me an amazing bundle including his trilogy of books : '1.The Patience of a Dead Man', '2.Dead Woman Scorned' and '3.Anger is an Acid' for review.
In book 1:Tim Russell gets tangled in one of the scariest, most creative and innovative haunted house stories I have ever read. Spending his last dime on a house purchase/restoration/sale project, he finds himself amidst of a nighmarish situation as the 'former residents' begin to manifest in the most dreadful ways. Who is that horrific, fly covered woman? And what about that ghostly white boy? Financially trapped and desperate, Tim tries to put an end to this terror with the help of his real estate agent, Holly, before it's too late. Horrific, fast paced haunted house mystery with a twist, one that the author masterfully crafts and manages to make personal for the reader. ....... In book 2: True horror has a name and that, is Mildred Wells. The fly covered woman, gets her own story. One that is full of misery, mistreat, anger and all the right reasons to fuel one's unspeakable hatred and vengeance. The horror escalates from the 1st book offering a backbone to Mildred's story. An outstanding 2nd book by the author that perfectly ties together the two stories to create an absotule nightmare with a tight plot, fantastic writing and character development. ......... In book 3: The horror comes full circle, picking up right after the end of Book 2. Book 3 is the foundation for even greater horrors for Tim, Holly and Andrew, a haunted fellow who lends a helping hand to them. The author ties perfectly the stories from the previous books into one action packed, horror filled finale.
The author does an amazing job throughout the series as his eerie cinematic writing approach amplifies the dread as the pages turn faster than a windmill during a hurricane. Highly recommended and a strong contestant for my top five reads of 2021.
This isn't just a ghost story. It's a bonafide ghost saga!
From the very beginning, I got the creeps. A beautiful house and horse farm out in New Hampshire, owned by a kind older couple who've lived there for years in peace. Sure, they noticed a few odd things here and there--neighbors roaming the edge of the property, an odd boy and even odder woman, even though the nearest house was miles away. The old man discovers something after all these years, hidden in a mysterious grove... Fast forward a few years, to the 1970s, and that's when the story truly begins.
Tim Russell seems to be a decent guy who's had a string of terrible luck. Recently divorced, separated from his two beloved children, and now nearly broke from lawyer's fees, he needs to get his life back together. He's a contractor and buys a fixer-upper in New Hampshire--a gorgeous property with a lot of potential. He could renovate the house, resell it, and gain enough profit to save his business.
Problem is, the property is haunted as hell.
This complete edition was perfect because once you get started on this story you have to see how it ends. The living characters are interesting in their way--Tim, Holly, his friends, family, and others--but the star of this show is the main ghost, Mildred Wells.
I cannot emphasize enough how much this ghost scared the crap out of me. Honestly, every night during my reading, I could barely go to the bathroom in the middle of the night without seeing her out of the corner of my eye, just waiting to get me. She is angry, brutal, scorned, and absolutely terrifying.
If you love ghost stories and haunted houses, this is a must read. I enjoyed some parts more than others, and some characters more than others, but overall the three books are incredibly well-written. The ending... I'm a bit on the fence. It totally fits but at the same time, I feel some sort of guilt for enjoying how it all ended up. I'm hoping another book may be coming as one of the characters we're left with seems like they have more to share. Sign me up for sure!
Thank you, Michael Clark, for sending this to me. You absolutely rock, and I can't wait to see what you do next.
The nearest neighbors are miles away. Yet they're always stopping over to visit. But they never introduce themselves. And, once they do, how do you make them stop?
Show, don't tell. This is a rule of storytelling that I learned when I was an animation student oh so long ago. The general idea is that you don't waste time telling the audience that something is happening, you make it evident to them through the setting, how the characters act, and how the characters react to the setting. This is something that Michael Clark makes really effective use of in the "The Patience of a Dead Man" series. (The "Complete" volume contains all three books.) The reader isn't told that the home purchased for renovation by the main character is haunted, they learn what is going on with the home even as the characters do. "Characters" refers to not just the living, but the dead as well, who learn their part in the enfolding drama as the story progresses. Being dead, in "The Patience of a Dead Man," doesn't provide all the answers. It may be just the beginning of knowing what questions to ask.
Holy hell! What a trilogy! I seriously was so creeped out and reading it at bedtime made it worse. I kept waiting to see Mildred in my dreams, lol. Michael wrote an amazing storyline. I was so engrossed in it, I had a hard time putting the book down. The turmoil and fear Mildred added in the lives of Tim and Holly was incomprehensible. The fear & anguish I felt for them was on every possible level. Poor guy just wanted to buy a house and renovate it.
I also enjoyed how Michael went into Mildred's back story in book 2. It was interesting to find out more about her and her upbringing.
Book 3, I got through a little to quickly, haha. I was so intrigued to see where the ending would go and I absolutely loved it! Michael nailed it!! I can so see this being a movie.
Michael is a phenomenal story teller! I hope to see and read more from this author! I highly recommend this trilogy!
Y'all, why isn't this book all over Bookstagram? I've only seen it on one person's page and I am flabbergasted!! I'm a sucker for A Haunted House story and this trilogy did not disappoint. These books have about everything you need. A haunted house, ghosts, freaking revenants, a cult oh and a damn TV show trying to make money off of the whole situation. And we have short chapters. Book two has a 193 chapters! I freaking loved it!!
This book is the complete set with all three books in them. Book one we meet Mildred, Book 2 is Mildred's backstory and book three is Mildred's revenge.
I cannot recommend this trilogy enough and it's absolutely one of my favorites now.
This whole series was a five-star read for me. All three tales combine to form one of the best haunted-house stories I've ever read, right up there with DRAWING BLOOD, USHER'S PASSING, and HELL HOUSE, in my opinion. If you're looking for a frightening, original, and truly immersive experience, check out The Patience of a Dead Man trilogy. Highly recommended!
This is an epic unique haunted house tale that I didn’t expect to go the way it did. Such a great idea and very well written! It was hard to put down and all three books flow together so well. My opinion is read them back to back to back. Can’t recommend this trilogy enough. I don’t wanna say anything to ruin the experience so go read it now!!!
Boom. Boom. Boom. That's how quickly I read the three books in this trilogy. If you like ghost stories; ghosts who do more than "bump" in the night - then you need to read these books. These books had all the chills and feels! Well done, Mr. Clark!
