Sophie Shaw has no intention of cooperating with her father’s plan to marry her to an impoverished marquess. She intends to enjoy her freedom into her dotage while remaining under the not-so-watchful eye of her father. Then, and only then, will she consider marriage to a man who does not need her money.
Adam Scott, Earl of Monthemer, lost his father, wealth, and the woman he loved all in the same day. When his father lost a game of cards at Madam Fleming’s Gaming Hall—the same establishment owned by the woman Adam had planned to marry—the old marquess returned home and shot himself.
As the new Marquess of Monthemer, Adam does the unthinkable. He sells their remaining valuables and pays his father’s creditors. Before he can retreat to the small Highland estate entailed to the Monthemer title, live his dream of raising horses, and forget the woman who ripped apart his life and soul, he must locate and marry a wealthy heiress.
A marriage of convenience will save his home, and possibly damn what remains of his heart to hell.
This type of story where deception is played throughout the story isn't my favorite troupe. But, since both were equally at fault over who they really were, I let that feeling go.
Some editing issues but not enough you couldn't figure out what it should be. The price is right, so it doesn't bother me.
I've enjoyed this author's writing style and this store was no different. I forget how much I enjoy her story telling.
There is lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 3 out of 5. I did feel a connection to the h/H so it was filled with passion and only described once. Some foreplay also during marriage, mild.
There is suspense, intrigue, plot twists, great main and secondary character's. I loved the smarts and boldness of the h. The H is honorable and loyal and they made a great couple.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romantic and a tad of spice. I recommend this author and story. This story ended at 92% on my e-reader. (ljb)
Errors. The plot is good but the amount of errors if far too many something I don't usually complain about because I don't often finish books with so many errors.
The third and probably last story in this series. I quite enjoyed most of it, just some small things that I didn't really enjoy. A nice read on the whole. 4☆
