Getting Even

Rate this book
For the past year, self-proclaimed Black American Princess Claudia has been planning her perfect wedding, destined to be the event in Atlanta's black society.
But when her prince gets cold feet, she's stunned and humiliated. She's done things in the bedroom with this man that her mother would disown her for! Annelise is frustrated. How long can a woman go without getting some from her husband? The man she supported through law school, who she signed a prenup for. But it seems the man who used to want it all the time is still getting it. . . from another woman. Thank goodness their devotedly single friend Lishelle has a couch to spare.

But when The Guy Who Got Away in college reappears in her life, she starts envisioning a walk down the aisle. Ignoring her friends' advice, she agrees to guarantee his bank loans for a new business. A girl's got to invest in her future husband, right? But once he gets his hands on her money, he disappears.

After a little digging, the women discover that the jerks they've trusted have betrayed them in ways they'd never imagined. As the scorned friends bitch over a bottle of wine, an idea begins to take shape — letting these weasels slink quietly out of their lives is too good for them. These women want revenge.

I really liked the book I loved that the 3 woman got revenge. If only it was that easy to get revenge like that in real life. I wished we would have found out what happen to the 3 men.
The way the book was set out was pretty awesome made it easy to relate to the characters better.

Lying cheating bastards like these men are the reason I'm happy to be single

Very hot book, and I liked the characters-I found them relatable. Could have been a little edgier, but all in all a very entertaining read.

This book is about three women seeking revenge on the men who have wronged them. Betrayed them - and then slinked away with no regret.

THESE WOMEN WANT REVENGE!

It is really entertaining, vengeful but certainly not a romance by any means. Three best friends get even on their lying betraying partners.

Getting even is filled with lots of sex scenes with random guys and pay back is certainly a bitch !

The book is well written – the way its set out is easy to follow and I found the characters likeable enough to read on.

We all want revenge on the arse that has wronged us = and a woman scorned is certainly not only after revenge but ways to make her feel like she deserves better. However this story didn’t put through this completely – the girls have sex with guys that really just only just use them and their weakness to get what they want.

The girls did get even in the end. Booh yar !!! fist pumps the air.

Which for me was certainly a happily ever after but I found that certain parts I don’t agree upon but hey if it makes you feel better than do as you please! lol.

It certainly was a likeable story, funny moment’s lots of sex and the Idea of Revenge certainly appealed to me ;) If only in real life it was this easy! lol

It would have been nice to find out what happened to the betraying weasels – a bit of detail actually (( grins ))

Overall, a story about three women who were screwed over but got even! I like that idea !!

This was my first experience with a Kayla Perrin novel, but it definitely won't be my last. I usually make myself read at least 50 pages of whatever book I'm reading each night, but I just FLEW through this one! I couldn't put it down!

Since this book has already been summarized here, I'm not going to re-hash the plot, but Ms. Perrin does a fantastic job of pulling the reader in and holding their attention to the very end. I will say though...I was a bit taken aback by just how sexually graphic this book was. I mean, some parts of this book would have given Penthouse a run for its money! Now, this didn't bother me, but I was just absolutely not expecting it. I'm not sure if all her novels are like this...as I said, I'm new to this author, but now I'll be a little more prepared for when I pick up another one of her books!

In the end, I absolutely recommend this book (unless of course you're offended by high sexual content, in which case this is NOT a book for you). Claudia, Lishelle, and Annaliese are three women you can't help but root for. The ending was very satisfying, and I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel to this book, 'Getting Some'.

Not exactly a book for me. Although the cover calls this "erotic fiction", I would label it as a girlfriends/sisters relationship book and an "anti-romance" novel. Yes, there is sex in the book, but it isn't to improve the romantic relationships in the story.
Three girlfriends--Claudia, Annaliese, and Lishelle--constantly get together to drink wine, Sex on the Beach, Cosmopolitans, and other sorts of mixed drinks and to lean on each other's shoulders as their relationships with their male partners fall apart. Annaliese also has a sister, Samera, with whom she rebuilds a relationship.
The story was interesting and moved along fairly well, but it wasn't for me. This story is for those who have a closer bond with their girlfriends and sisters than with male partners, and is also for those women who have suffered from having been the victim of their partner's infidelity. I could relate to Annaliese whose husband cheated on her, but I couldn't relate to the girlfriend bonding aspect of the book, especially when they're passing drinks.

Sadly, this book does not stand the test of time. Rereading the novel for my book club forced me to revoke my favorite status and take away 2 stars from my original rating. The characters were just a hot mess and I didn't like any of them that much. The only redeeming quality was the revenge plots on their trifling men. I found that part of the story entertaining. I kinda wish I had kept this book solely in my fond memories of it. Which is why I'm refusing to reread the second book. I obviously still like torturing myself though, discovering there's another book in this series that I didn't know about and am planning on reading it. I never know when to quit.

Wow not sure what to say about this book. I have never read Kayla Perrin before and this book is well written and I story I could fall into but I thought it was a romance and it was not. I need a HEA not a bunch of sex with total looser guys and ladies that are so week that they let themselves be totally taken advantage of. They may have gotten even in the end but I don't think they should allowed themselves to be put in the positions they were. I have the sequel to this story and as much as I want to see everyone get there HEA I am just not sure I will read it.

These poor women had no luck at all with their men. I found the author was able to grab at a lot of my emotions in this book. So many times I wanted to string these men up just for the sake of Claudia, Annelise and Lishelle and what they did to them. What horrible, horrible men. They certainly got every thing they deserved. The saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" definitely came true in this book. I'd actually love to read what becomes of these women after they got their revenge. I'm glad Annelise met Dominic they would make a great couple.

One of my biggest complaints of books and movies, when I don't love them, is that the resolution is too fast. This book falls under that category. There was lots of buildup and background of the three women's stories...then there was a big idea - it was conceived and played out in the last 30ish pages of a 400 page book. It threw me out of balance and it didn't keep pace with the rest of the book.

It was a good story but the characters did seem weak and seemed to set themselves up for a bad aftermath.
