The Christian Left unveils how liberal thought has entered America's sanctuaries, exchanging the Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for the trinity of diversity, acceptance, and social justice. This in-depth look at church history, world politics, and pop culture masterfully exposes the rise and agenda of the Christian Left.

In case it isn't obvious by the book description, this author is extremely transphobic. My review has nothing to do with politics. If you're transphobic, you don't fully support every human and that is just wrong on every level. The Bible teaches you to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Trust me, I've studied the Bible since I was a small child. If you're transphobic and you "preach" about Christianity, then you're not following God's teachings and you need to do some serious reevaluating of the hypocritical messages of "love" that you attempt to teach people.
maybe someone should actually read the Bible before they release something so harmful and contradictory. what is this book going to do? i have an answer: keep hateful people in their hateful views and encourage no growth of mind. so many verses of the Bible have been mistranslated and used to hurt others by their incorrect meaning. by doing some simple research, you can see that so much of this is just wrong. it really hurts me to see someone like this thinking that they're correct. there's no reason for hatred. i'll be praying for you, mrs. miles (how does it feel to be misgendered?). i pity you above all else.
now, onto some points of why this is so wrong:
• homosexuality. that single verse in the Bible you use to condemn people with? yeah, it's about pedophilia.
• transgender individuals. that single verse you use to condemn another group of people with? it's about taking advantage of women and the innocent instead of fighting as a soldier.
• the abortion argument. more women and children die when abortions are illegal than when they're legal. "pro-life" is more like pro-death. because guess what? abortions are just going to happen anyway. they're going to be done unsafely, which ultimately causes more harm. personally, i'm not a fan of abortion, but i would rather save lives than condemn people for making an extremely hard choice.
so yeah. maybe read a bit. maybe be open-minded. maybe educate yourself. or just keep being the same bigot you always were.
this book is disgusting. also, rating your own book five stars? poor taste.
As a Christian who’s a leftist and is 100 percent sure that God would rather you be an activist for minorities to get more rights rather than be someone who shuts them down, this book’s name and the 5-star reviews regarding it are gross.
If you are at all concerned with the direction the local church has taken in the past few years; acceptance of abortion, confusion regarding gender identity and an emphasis on pop culture rather than the word of God, Lucas Miles helps you understand the lies of the enemy. I couldn't put it down!
This book both educated and enlightened me. The author indeed gives shocking and disturbing examples of " Christian" leaders who have been at the forefront of cultural issues with viewpoints that are contradictory to the Scriptures. Notable are direct quotes from Beth Moore and Phil Vischer (co-creator of Veggie Tales) espousing their personal cultural convictions that shocked me as a conservative Baptist. The 2 things that I loved about this book is that all of the author's assertions are footnoted with reference material so the reader can read the quotes for themselves and the fact that the author admonishes the Christian Right to strive to be a living example of Jesus and approach those on the Left with love and not hatred. I would strongly encourage every Christian to read this book - it is eye-opening.
As someone who really loved Mr. Lucas Miles's first book, Good God, I am very disappointed with the harsh and narrow minded political slant that his follow up has taken. It no longer focuses on how God is Good no matter where you come from, but instead further advances the victim mentality that many Christians have when playing themselves as "victims" of the "woke". It is sugar coated with a thin layer of false positive vibes, but dismisses anything other than his own personal views while keeping his head buried in the sand. Painting everyone with a broad stroke is a way to preach to the choir, but its also a way to further isolate yourself from the very people you should be trying to reach.
This is not to say that decent points are made here. But when taken as a whole, it is very defensive, full of accusations, and pretty un-fun to read.
Just doing my part. One of the books that is not only bad (poorly written, containing nomerous contradictions and containing only the cherry picked aspects of the bible) - but geniuenly dangerous.
I highly recommend this book to any serious believer in Christ. It addresses a major threat to the Christian church and provides sound solutions for dealing with it.
Needs to be read with an open mind by those both on the left and the right. Would be very good for a book study with group discussion. I am politically libertarian so as a Christian I tend be more socially liberal than those in the Christian Right, but I would not identify as Christian Left. The book challenged my thinking and caused me to closely consider the positions I hold.
I knew from the first few pages that I was not in agreement with the author about some doctrinal issues, but that wouldn't have been a deal breaker in this case, until I realized Miles really thinks that belief in the sovereignty of God is what makes people lean toward socialism. Which tells me not only does he not understand the concept, but maybe doesn't know any people who believe in the sovereignty of God. He lost me there. I only got about halfway through the book, but I get the picture and don't need to waste any more time on this.
I enjoy reading contrary philosophies. I appreciate questions raised that force me to reconsider my own views (both spiritual and political). This is amateur garbage. The author raises arguments that force him to contradict himself at numerous points. He makes blatant pitches for profit asking readers to buy more of his works and spread his word (under the guise of strengthening god’s word). At no point was this author’s arguments sound enough to make me question myself and, tragically only forced me to find better arguments for my agnostic-left beliefs. I was at times offended on behalf of liberal Christian friends/family, as he essentially equates them to dim witted traitors and suckers. Do not waste your time. Whether you are conservative or progressive there are better authors to read in order to explore Christian and/or Conservative ideologies.
The Christian Left: How Liberal Thought Has Hijacked the Church 2021 By Lucas Miles —— Summary: A pastor’s perspective on how left-leaning ideologies have infiltrated Christians and their churches.
—— Excerpt: Not all on the right are looking for truth in this way though. Kindness- is rejected so as not to appear weak, causing some on the right to hold fast to ideas, such as freedom, truth, and personal liberty, while intentionally throwing empathy, understanding, and Christian service overboard. The result is an individual "don't tread on me" persona that feels to be a far cry from Jesus' instructions to "turn the other cheek." (145)
—— For the most part, I found Lucas Miles to be measured in his assessment of the push of some strains of Christianity to move more toward leftist ideas. Kudos to him for not going too “doom and gloom” with his argument. However, I did almost toss the book after reading chapter 4 in which Miles basically asserts that Christian theology that holds to a high view of God’s sovereignty is very susceptible to eventual leftist leanings. It was a poor argument, extremely biased, with a complete lack of grounding in church history.
I continue to do my best in keeping up with how progressive ideologies are taking root in the Church. With this, however, I am just as troubled by those on the Religious Right who place God and Country ahead of the teachings of Jesus. This book, however, does an exceptional job at handling both topics forthrightly and winsomly, using apologetical arguments that make clear sense the first time the are read.
Because of this, I cannot recommend this book highly enough to all who call themselves Christian. I guarantee that no matter your political persuasion, even those on the Right for whom this book is primarily written, will be both challenged and convicted. As this is accomplished, it demonstrates that the author has truly "nailed it on the head."
"The Christian Left" is certainly a great read for any Christian concerned with the state of the Church in today's world. Lucas Miles does a great job at describing issues with the currently liberal and progressive policies and views of many modern churches. Most notably Miles does a good job at supporting his claims and also giving the alternative perspective as well as calling out conservatives for their shortcomings as well. However, as with any book on this topic from either side of the political isle there are going to be some degree of biases. If you are a Christian and you want to learn more about certain movements and changes in the church today this is definitely the book for you.
A great book for not only discerning dangerous cultural and political movements which are contaminating culture and creeping into the church, but showing how good political beliefs doesn't necessarily mean one is in right standing with God.
It does a great job of showing how dangerous movements within the political left are tampering the Gospel presentation in many churches, however also makes an important distinction between conservative beliefs and true Faith, so that we don't put the cart before the horse.
A great read for making sure our political beliefs are a by product of our faith, not the other way around.
Simply a clear and fantastic read. Lucas, demonstrates and breaks down all the issues facing modern Christianity, more so the main issue of leftist ideals infecting the church. From LGBTQ issues and what it means to "love" under the Christian thought.
He points out how there is a Christian cabal that doesn't really promote the faith but is more interested in giving the watered down version of it, through music, media and books. How the word of God is being changed and altered to fit our social ques.
It's a short book with a powerful message, and a clear take on the modern political world and how we should analyze ourselves and our faith if we want to really focus on Christ.
This is a great book with numerous theological connections to the liberalization of the Christian faith and the dangers posed by the right as well. It is thoughtful and informative. I found it challenging to get used to the authors voice and style and should have approached it from a more studious perspective from the beginning. The trudge was well worth it, however, and I plan to revisit my highlights and notes for better understanding and consideration.
I think that this book was between 3 and 4 stars for me personally. I was reading 2 political books at the same time, which made it difficult for me to concentrate fully on this one after reading in the other one. Maybe I would have rated it higher if that weren't the case, but that was my experience with this one, so that is my honest review.
Thoughtfully written and supported with relevant and timely current examples. I would recommend this book and author to everyone looking for clear explanations as to current events and how the Bible addresses how to respond, to encourage understanding and peaceful resolutions.
Whatever your political slant, this is a must read. The author looks at current events in the church world and the political world and makes his case from a Biblical world view. The book is well researched and referenced…an eye opener.
Provided some interesting insight on the direction the modern Church is headed and the dangers of unhitching ones thinking from the anchor of truth provided by God's Word. Eye opening content on the close relationship that has been forged between politics and religion.
This book is a valuable resource to be made aware of what a spiritually healthy church looks like, lined up with the word of God and to be made aware of what a Christian walk should look like lined up with God's word.
Excellent book!! I learned a great deal, felt convicted in a few areas, have some points to still ponder and felt encouraged to continue to stand strong on the Word of God!
