A dark mafia arranged marriage romance

We were destined for disaster from the second we met …

Massimo D’Agostino is the heir to his father’s empire.
Don’t be fooled by his handsome face, or that piercing blue gaze.
He’s no prince charming.
He’s dangerous and feared, possessive and fierce.

Our first meeting began with a contract that forced me to marry him and sign my life away.
I was a debt repayment and a pawn in his game to exact revenge against my father.
The only way out is death.

I belong to him now.
Me, the Balesteri Mafia Princess.
Pure and untouched…
Owned by the devil who placed me in a gilded cage.

But something unexpected happened the moment our paths collided.
It made me want more of what he had to offer every time I lay beneath him.

Then the past came knocking at the door and dark secrets scattered at my feet.
Suddenly I don’t know truth from lies.
Or, who the monster in this story is.
I thought it was my husband.
Now I’m not so sure…

“Ruthless Prince” is the first book in the Dark Syndicate series. It is a stand-alone Dark Mafia Enemies to Lovers Arranged Marriage Romance, complete with HEA and no cliffhangers.

Mafia romance is one of my favorite tropes and I am always on the hunt for more...and lemme tell you, the pickings become slim when you have read as much of it as I have...

So when I saw this on amazon - AND that it was a forced marriage/revenge scenario? - I almost drooled directly onto my kindle in excitement.

That said, this started off well enough. The backstory seemed decent and the world-building looked promising; however, the quality of both soon devolved and we were left with a somewhat half-baked view of an unclear mafia world.

Also, row boating thorough bird-covered waterway scenes - immediately followed by a post rain love scene - felt veritably plucked straight from The Notebook and had me rolling my eyes a bit. Not to mention the conveniently overdone drama toward the end. But whatever.

One of the book's saving graces was the chemistry between the two main characters. Also, I enjoyed the backdrop of Southern CA. While not always accurate (and I assume changed for the case of the story, which is fine), I enjoyed the mentions of Redondo Beach (which is really close to where I grew up) and the Vincent Thomas Bridge (which I cross almost every week). However, I will say that the setting didn't really help the mafia vibe of the book overall for me, which was already pretty weak. CA is just not New York or Chicago. We don't really have Italian mafia here...we have street gangs. But I appreciated the author trying to change it up.

Long story short, this was a decent way to spend an evening. I would definitely classify it as mafia-lite, though. If you are a longtime lover of truly dark mafia romance like me, this won't do much for you. In fact, if I hadn't gotten this via Kindle Unlimited, I would probably be rating this lower. And I have no interest in continuing the series. So there's that...

I looked at the cover.
I read the word mafia in the blurb.
I saw that this was an arranged marriage novel.
And I jumped right onto this book.

This book was what I really needed right now.

At first, I was not really excited about this book. Then as the story moved on, my interest built up eventually. By the end of the book, I was totally absorbed by the book.

When the story begins, it's your usual arranged marriage mafia romance with a little bit of revenge thrown in along with a lot of personal vendettas. In fact, it reminded me a bit of The Kiss Thief. But the climax and ending were so unpredictable and I was taken by a pleasant surprise.

I never thought this was going to happen and I'm always so glad when that happens. It amplifies the enjoyment of reading ten-fold.

The hero, Massimo, I loved him. He was the epitome of a mafia hero.

My only quibble with this book was that the heroine was so meek and submissive that I couldn't help being frustrated and annoyed at her and because of that I'm gonna knock off a star. Like woman stop being such a doormat!

Besides that, I loved everything about this book.

This book is a train wreck. The heroine is a "red shirt" aka too stupid to live. Also, she's this uber sheltered never been even kissed virginal mafia princess, but she knows what a St. Andrew's Cross is?!? Yeah, sure. Why not? It makes about as much sense as the rest of her idiocy. He forced me to marry him and locks me in a room, but it's OK because he's really 🔥. Tells me I'm nothing, but again it's OK because he's good at sex. At one point in the story she nearly drowns, and I was hoping she did. Sadly, she doesn't and this testament to lazy writing continued for about another 100 pages though it seemed much longer. Don't waste your time or 💰 on this trash.

When the hero said: “EVEN IF I WANTED TO, I COULDN’T CHEAT ON HER. BUT SHE DOESN’T NEED TO KNOW THAT.”

Or when the heroine saw the hero do this “WHEN SHE WALKED OVER TO HIM AND SITS ON HIS LAP AND HE DOES NOTHING TO GET HER OFF HIM,”
And when the OW said this “YOU WILL NEVER LOVE HER. YOU LOVED ME.” He just replied said “JUST GO.” 🤬🤬🤬🤬 He doesn’t declare himself saying he loves the heroine or he only wants the heroine. Which that made me so annoyed with him!!!!

He even said to the ow like this:
“BE CAREFUL. REMEMBER WHO YOU’RE TALKING TO. I DON’T WANT YOU TONIGHT.”

He only said tonight? He doesn’t say ever.... omg.
What stupid selfish human being ever.

AFTER ALL THIS TIME HE ALWAYS SAYS GOOD THINGS TO HER LIKE HE WANTED HER for so long and he was obsessed with her, he do that? Mind you in that moment he was already married to the heroine and they were in good terms actually...

THE OW EVEN STILL TEXTED THE HERO ON HIS PHONE AND HER NUMBER WAS STILL IN HIS PHONE! ISN’T SO HARD TO DELETED IT?????! 🤬

Even when days before their wedding and they weren’t having s*x yet, ONE NIGHT THE HERO goes to the strip club that he owns and saw the OW. She start to touching him and he didn’t stop her, but when she grabs him and even ask do you have a condom to go with her at the room they usually do it, HE STOPS HER AND GOES AWAY. But why stop her after she already touched you for few minutes???

He so selfish I want to slap him.
He once saw the heroine with someone else who just eyeing her from a far, he got very jealous and even mad at the heroine for wearing a bikini. When before that, he let the OW holds his hand to the beach and even let her touch his chest and the heroine saw it!!! THE HERO EVEN GOT JEALOUS WHEN HE KNOWS THAT THE HEROINE HAVE A MALE FRIEND!!!! BUT HE STILL FRIENDS WITH THE OW WTF....

TOO MANY pushing away from the hero that made me really annoyed with him so much. I get it with the whole pushing away thing because the heroine is actually the daughter of his biggest enemy. BUT YOU’RE THE ONE WHO ACTUALLY WANT TO MARRY HER EVEN WHEN HER DAD WAS YOUR ENEMY.... YOU’RE THE ONE WHO ALWAYS SAID YOU WANTED HER SO VERY MUCH....

DRAMA WITH OM because it was her true best friend growing up together like that, he make a scene that made me think the hero really deserves it. THE OM tells everybody on their wedding day that he loves her so very much and even objects their wedding!

The heroine is a virgin and never even kissed.

Many jealous scenes from the hero
The hero is OTT possessive alpha male for sure
The epilogue is only few months later and they got married again officially without the contract at first. They seems to be happy and in love very much.

The hero constantly always said he doesn’t have a heart and it was broken a long time ago with a family problem but honestly for me, nope.
You’re still childish and not my fave.

The other drama is about their family and enemies.

I just don’t want to read it or even explain far again with this book because it made me so annoyed with all of those scenes from the hero and how he is. I have better heroes in my collection....

🌐🌐🌐➡️↘️⬇️➡️This is my own personal thoughts and opinion about the book so if thats not sit right with you or you feel I’m not being fair blablabla, please know that everybody in this world have their own different things that they like and don’t like. It may not be the same thing with you but thats okay because i am my own person and you cannot control me or tell me what to do. For example; i put ketchup (tomato sauce) on my fried chicken. You think that’s disgusting? For me its not and i’ve been eating it like that for many many years. You tell me to put another sauce and see if i like that better? I already did many many times in years but i still like the way i like it. It’s called differences between me and you and billions people in this world😊 be open minded😙 I respect people’s opinions about my opinions but in the end of the day if i say I don’t like it or i do like it, its up to me and its on me. And in the end of the day i always liked and show my respect to books and people’s opinions on books whenever that book is good or not good in my opinion 😊 Respect people’s opinions guys😙😙 I don’t want to write this down because its not really my thing to do it. To like address something like this when obviously i know the people who’s been reading my reviews many times and all the time, they are smart enough to understand and respect other people’s opinions no matter what their opinions on book or their point of view 😙😙 am i right? 💕 but if you still wants to be negative and be karens about my review on book, i will never acknowledge you and simply ignore you because its not that hard🙏 ⬅️↖️↕️⬅️↩️⤴️

Massimo D’Agostino was someone you loathed from the start. He was ruthless and cunning. Dark and delicious. His family had a long, drawn out feud with the Balesteri family. They want to end that family once and for all.

Emelia, the beautiful Balesteri princess, the supposed apple of her father's eye just so happens to be a pawn in a game of revenge. Both families want to use her - one for money and one for destruction. A contract is signed and she is now property of one Massimo D’Agostino. Set to be married to him. Her life that she once had is over. How could her father allow such a thing?

There are twists and turns, action and malice, hate and love.
Walls once built on unspoken feelings and lies are slowly chipped away.
This story has it all.

Mafia romances just love the arranged/forced marriage trope, and guess what? So do I.

MAIN CHARACTER NAMES
Emelia | Massimo

SUMMARY
Massimo has been hellbent on revenge ever since his father’s former friend and business partner, Riccardo, stole Massimo’s family’s fortune, home, and status from them. Now that he’s older, his plan is finally ready to be enacted. He starts with marrying Riccardo’s beloved daughter, Emelia.

All Emelia wants to do is paint. Making it into the school of her dreams, she’s ready to be free from her father’s grasp. When her father makes her marry Massimo, she’s forced to pay the consequences of her father’s actions.

There’s an undeniable attraction between Emelia and Massimo, but both fight against their lust and lash out against each other. As the arrangement becomes more twisted, lines blur and feelings get hurt.

REVIEW
I liked the circumstances that brought Emelia and Massimo together. Angst from loving your enemy’s daughter is always going to hit, and this was no exception

Emelia and Massimo were both immature, but it almost seemed unintentional. It’s shown that Massimo has a lot of growing to do, as his past has left him bitter, but their juvenility was consistent and unaddressed.

I did not buy Massimo as a leader to his family and whatever business/Syndicate thing was going on. It was stated he would kill anyone who looked at him wrong, but that characterization did not match his actions. He wasn’t ruthless. He wasn’t perceptive. He wasn’t one step ahead of the enemy.

I was so, so, so annoyed by the other woman drama. Usually, I just roll my eyes and accept that it’s part of the story, but I absolutely despise when the FMC sees the MMC and OW together and ASSUMES that he’s cheating, despite him insisting he has not. I could forgive this if it happened once or twice, but I swear it happened constantly.

So many plot points were outrageous to the point of corniness, but I didn’t mind it because it kept my attention in these parts where other sections completely lost it.

For all my annoyances, I loved Massimo’s softening toward Emelia and journey to gaining her trust. Their relationship dynamic was perfect. If most of the conflict was internal, it would’ve worked so well for me.

I think this book could have benefited from being slightly shorter. As far as mafia romances go, it was good, but its plot wasn’t enough to make it standout as a favorite. I liked it enough to continue the series, but not enough to remember it.

This is a hard pass for me. I found it boring, scattered, and unbelievable (I knowww it’s not ‘meant’ to be always believable but still…). I felt no connection to the characters and the plot completely went off the rails in the last 50 pages. And as far as being a ‘dark romance’ - how?? The lacklustre try for bdsm and and arranged marriage didn’t seem to cut it.

AUTHOR:FAITH SUMMERS.
TYPE:STANDALONE.
POV:5 STARS...

First Installment in the DARK SYNDICATE SERIES...focuses on Massimo and Emilia's story.

Massimo and Emila have lead a very different life. While one has been given all the privileges from birth, the other has struggled a lot. But, now the tables have turned...and Massimo is the heir to the D'Ag Family and business. He has a dark side too...full of his need for bloodthirst and revenge. He knows to bring a man down...go for his Achilles heel. His only daughter...Emelia Bellasteri. Now he stands between all the world thirsty for her blood and her...will he save her or will he succumb to the need for vengeance?

I have been on a dark romance rampage lately and this book hit all the boxes of my checklist for a good'ol dark romance . Massimo was the deranged dominant alpha character, we never know what he will do next. He stands like a sheild for his family and crosses every line to protect whats his.

Emelia was our sweet, Vulnerable, kind character who Massimo tries to destroy but she gives him back hell...minnd you ..she was not the innocent, scared girl the author portrayed earkier in the book...

I love that the characters were written so deeply with a history...it was really easy to connect with them and the chemistry between them was so out of the charts...the steamy scnes will just melt your panties away...

Overall, i love this book ver much...arrange marriage with a dark hint...
There were some scenes, triggers which can be sensitive for some readers.
if you are looking a quick read ...this is the book for you...satusfying from the start till the end

Ruthless Prince held my attention for most of the story. It had most of my favorite tropes in a mafia arranged-marriage romance, but it didn't exceed my expectations in any way.

I liked Massimo, the hero, but I didn't love him. He's sort of your run-of-the-mill mafia hero, but in my opinion, he's a lot tamer than the other hero's I've read about. He's jealous, possessive and a bit of an asshole, but those are typical traits every hero has nowadays. Like I said, there wasn't anything too special about him.

Emelia, the heroine, wasn't as interesting as the hero. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at a lot of the things she did. She was such a door mat, driven by lust and lack of a brain. I was expecting her to put up a fight against Massimo, but she didn't. Ultimately she was reduced to her beauty and attractiveness. The story would've been better if she hadn't been so meek.

I really liked some of the twists and turns, there were a few I didn't see coming and one I saw coming a mile away.

I'd probably have to be a little desperate to carry on with the series... we shall see...

Web-Photo-Editor She’s my enemy’s daughter.
Loving her is wrong.
But she feels like the only good thing in my life.

'Ruthless Prince' is the first book of the 'Dark Syndicate' series by Faith Summers. Told in dual Perspectives , this book was one hell of a mafia Romance!

When I first started this book ,I thought it was the same story like all the other mafia captive books. But I am so happy to say that it was so much more! I loved every word and each and every character too! The storyline was perfect and the book was so hot in all the right parts!

Massimo is the chosen heir for his father's company. But he has scores to settle before Taking his throne. His family was not always this wealthy. There were times when they were betrayed and had to even live in the streets. All of it caused by one man. He vowed to destroy that man , starting by his daughter.

Emelia is glad that she is finally fulfilling her dreams. That is until an enemy of her father comes and takes her away , locking her in his house like a prisoner. All her dreams are broken as she is sold by her father and now belongs to Massimo. A man who is ruthless from the very first sight. One who won't stop at anything to break her. But not before he marries her and takes away her inheritance.

The story was full of twists and turns and I loved the way the author kept me at the edge of my seat for the whole time! I can't wait to read more from this world! A highly recommended mafia Romance to all the dark Romance lovers out there!

Wanting to get revenge for what was done to his family years ago is what keeps Massimo D’Agostino’s going and when he sees the opportunity he’s been waiting for he takes it….even if that means making the enemies daughter his wife. Just like his family was not shown mercy, Massimo makes sure not to show them mercy. Emilia Balesteri is a mafia princess that wanted to have the opportunity to live her life before it was decided for her. Just when she is about to she is being pawned off to the enemy in exchange for her father’s debt.

Massiomo and Emilia’s interaction at first was brutal in my opinion. The more they interacted with each other and saw the “real” person the more it gave me hope that their marriage would succeed. I will say that you need to pay close attention because this book is fast paced with a lot of action and MANY GASP moments that had me saying no way!! Can’t wait for what else Khardine Gray & Faith Summers give us! Kara~ 5 Stars

Massimo (hero) is mob boss, and Emelia(heroine) is daughter of the one of the most powerful man.Her father owes big debt to Massimo and his family.Massimo takes almost everything of Emelia's father and also takes Emelia as a repayment for debt.
Well I did like this book , but it felt like instalove ,it got very interesting somewhere around there marriage then it went downhill. Emelia felt really cliche ,author tried to show that she is strong or that she has fire in her but I didn't feel that.I would have loved if she was shown more stronger or there was something really special about her other than she being very beautiful.
I feel like many things could have been done better in this book and it would have been really good, but you can definitely give it a try ,who knows you might like it.

Well, that was an adventure in many ways. There sure are a lot of bad guys running around killing and trying to kill and kidnap people. Her dad is a piece of work. I did not care for Massimo to begin with but he grew on me, and eventually on Emelia too. It's not very often that I dislike secondary characters and don't want them to get a HEA, but there is one person and I'd much prefer they die. I don't get the title, because it's only used once in the whole book and it a very off handed way. Beautiful epilogue, but what's up with that letter... there's still another bad guy

This was the first mafia romance book I read two years ago, and I decided to do a re-read of the series. After rereading this, there's no way I can still rate this as 5stars. Massimo is an asshole of the highest order and didn't grovel not one bit. He let that hoe Gabriella run all through his house and practically relished in Emila's jealousy. Emilia is no better. I mean total waste of space. Her fake outrage really annoyed me. I hate when authors create this "feisty" FMCs, all to crumble when the MC does something sexual to her. Like be so for real. This man literally ripped off your clothes, speaks to you like a dog, and tells you to obey him. But hey, he's hot so it's ok. Yeah, no to this book. I was like "girl stand up for yourself", at least a little bit. If you want to call her hunger strike doing that, then i guess she did. I still love the series, but I remember this being my least liked one and now I remember why.

How this is written is disastrous. What’s written is child play in a kiddie pool, not dark mafia. This book takes plot points from dark books, such as forced marriage and dubious consent, and sets it to the writing style of a children’s book.

The phrasing texture is like a ride on cracked asphalt with roller skates. Your mind bumps along because there isn’t a natural flow to how words make a sentence, sentences make a paragraph, and paragraphs make a scene.

Combine horrible writing style with cartoonish characterization of adult content, and you get this….

❌Voice inflection is elementary and author-heavy❌

I tuck a lock of hair behind my ear.

🚨🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚨^^^ The mob boss tucked HIS hair behind HIS ear.

I won the leadership fair and square.

“Enough nitty-gritty….”

I’ll bet, with the way Daddy Dearest runs things…

that’s where we meet and hang out.

“Sorry I’m late, Boss.” … “That’s okay.”

“Great, we’re like a bunch of pussies gathering over coffee and cake,”

“I guess I’ll start, then. This was kind of unofficial. I just…wanted to meet with you and update you.”

🚨Does any of that ^ make a) your panties dampen for the dark mafia boss you’ve been promised from this book -or- b) your lady bits dry up like a prune at getting some bumbling idiot in his place⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️

When we all got our separate houses, Pa split up some of our favorite paintings so we could each have some. I got the majority because I have the biggest house.

🚨 Biggest cock and most puss, sure… but most paintings and biggest house?

Sorry - said 51 x
Thank you/thanks -68 x
Please - 59 x

🎪 = most polite mafia book ever.

❌ Did the author read this back to herself? ❌

When I checked out Emelia, I had to admit that the first thing to strike me about her was her talent. Now I’ve seen it.

🚨 🤔

“Then, please…make sure you flee and never look back if you do it, because if he finds you, he’ll know it could only be me or Priscilla who told you how to escape. So…please think properly before you try it.

🚨Yeah, cause there is no way she could see the row boat docked right there in front of her and think to get in it.

❌Plot Bomb ❌

This one stipulates that I share my resources, power, and life with the members. One body, one power, all to pursue wealth. My blood on the contract is my signature. It’s a serious thing, because to sign the creed means you sign your life away.

🚨Plot 💣 moots everything before it. As in… MMC’s dad hoodwinked by FMC’s dad. Both Syndicate. So, if it’s all shared as one 1) how does one steal from another 2) one end up broke etc etc. if it’s all SHARED.

❌ Enough with the “Like You” shit ❌

We were all at that ball that night when Riccardo presented her to the world. I know it wouldn’t have just been me who liked her and wanted her. I just got to have her because I’m boss now. Now, she’s in my house, and I want to fuck her.

🚨Remove “fuck” in the sentence - it’s something akin to a sixth grader’s creative writing work. The constant “like her” lines make me want to break out George Straight for some ✅ yes or no.

❌ It’s contagious.❌

I won’t let her out of her room yet though. Not just yet.

“I would say so. I would definitely say so.”

She speaks fondly of them. Very fondly.

I worked so hard to get into the Accademia. I worked so hard…

I change into a pair of jeans and a camisole. Clothes. My actual clothes.

You have so much. You took so much, and now you’ve taken me to screw with my father. How could you be so wicked? You have so much money.”
It is what it is. No more, no less. Pa chose who he wants to take the lead, and you chose who you want to support you. It is what it is,”

🚨 Repetitive. Voice confusion since they all have the same bad habit.

❌ The author tells you everything ❌

I think being left alone might be the winner because right now I’m so scared. Terrified, more like, and I’m just waiting to see what’s going to happen next.

I’m scared and I feel sick, like I’m going to throw up everything I ever ate in my life.

Terrified, I stand as he walks in and closes the door behind him.

🚨 Author insists on TELLING you the emotional and physical substance of the story…. And, it’s… repetitive, mechanical, dull, and conflicting to boot. Plus, we have to get an endless backstory to every damn thing and person in the book.

❌ What’s being told isn’t believable. ❌

Don’t tell me that she’s terrified while her thoughts are as flippant as her dress…

With trembling hands, I move the tiny strap of my summer dress down my left shoulder, then my right. I curse myself for choosing to wear this stupid dress because it made me look cute. It’s also very easy to take off. The dress drifts to my feet the moment I slip off the second strap. …… Which should I start with? My bra or my panties? While I decide, I bend and slip off my shoes…slowly. One, then the other.

🚨^^ Sold by your dad. Terrified virgin. Thinking you’re about to be raped. But, you’re thinking that ^ and basically doing a strip tease?

“I’m frightened and ashamed. I’m terrified and angry at what I’m being forced to do.”

“He places a hand right by my shoulder, blocking me in so I can’t move. I can’t stop shaking. The terror comes from deep inside. Deep inside my soul. I can’t control it.”

🚨 My problem with this scene isn’t the traitorous body syndrome. Fear and arousal are natural cohabiters. She’s saying one thing that’s opposed to the calmness and absence of feeling within the actions. It’s like 🔺🟣 pieces from different puzzles forced together.

❌Stilted inner thoughts ❌

It was he who sent Vlad to kill Alyssa.

🚨 This is first person. The inner thoughts are worse than third person removed. It’s like a dictionary narrating the thoughts.

❌ Reads like Nancy Drew Porn ❌

She’s just had her traitorous body syndrome first orgasm, and this is what the reader gets….

This is crazy. I don’t want him. I can’t. He’s the enemy. My enemy. I can’t allow myself to be used this way. There’s only one thing I can do. Escape.

🚨Oh, no, what shall she ever do… I almost hear the elementary school theater program ‘gasp’ at the end of the sentence. Where is the non-theatrical emotion? The inner conflict? The presence of mind and body? The conclusion of the plot arc of him touching her for the first time is like something out of Nancy Drew, not a DARK MAFIA ROMANCE.

“I can’t use a phone?” I gasp.

🚨 There’s that gasp we all knew was coming lol. Who knew it would be over denial of a phone call when you’ve just been sold to your father’s enemy and signed your life away 🙄. The nerve of the big bad man to deny her a phone call ~

“I don’t want any of it. He’s kidnapped me and brought me here to live with him. I don’t want anything. I don’t need food. I don’t need clothes. Definitely not when I have my own. I have more than my fair share of clothes. I don’t need any new ones.”

🚨🤣😂 I take it back. This is Gone With The Wind minus the 🥕 stick porn.

❌ Delusional? ❌

There’s a fire inside her that captivates me. It makes her think she can defy me. Tell me no? I can’t recall the last time a woman uttered that word to me. The fact that it came from a powerless, defenseless being like her in her perfect nakedness is pure arousal.

🚨 🤣😂🤣The FMC couldn’t have been more placid and plastic in the scene if she was swallowed by a mofo shampoo bottle. He said strip. She stripped. He finger fucked her to her first orgasm without so much as a single protest. He says next time she gets the big D, and she utters this:

“No, I won’t. I won’t give you anything,” I snap back.

🚨💦 🔥 1) She already did, and without any protest other than moans of pleasure. 2) Is that ONE fucking weak ass line what he calls “fire” from an FMC that immediately caves to marriage, ownership, captivity, nakedness, finger-fucking, and orgasm within an hour? You’ve got to be shitting me? I’ve seen more fire from a 🐑 in Mary’s arms.

❌ Fire? What fire? ❌

☃️ let me tell you just how much fire the FMC has…

“We’re not those people. I’m not a man who will fight for you, Emelia Balesteri. Your father kept you in the dark. But you are just as evil as he is to me, which makes you nothing. Do not make the mistake of thinking we’re anything more than what we are. We are not. You are not.”

MMC says this to her ^ … ignore the fact that he has just spent hours pondering her sweetness, beauty, talent, and so on like a kindergarten poet, but let’s take a look at all the fire she supposedly has. She says nothing as she bends to his demand to dress and eat with him. Her first words after that ‘you are nothing’ speech are these after he pulls her chair out for her….

“Thank you,” she mutters, her voice barely audible.

🚨 Isn’t she polite?

❌ There’s Carrot Cake… You don’t f’ing say? ❌

Although, Andreas is what you call ruthless and heartless. He’d make a good boss, a great leader. He’s exactly like me.

🚨This author keeps telling me how ruthless and heartless the MMC is, but ^^^ that delusional shit just followed a round of “please” (literally) and “thank you” (literally) Brady Bunch Boy Scout 🥰 fest around coffee and carrot cake <<< aka this author’s version of a mob meeting. I shit you not… there really was CARROT FUCKING CAKE 🍰 at the mob bosses first big meeting with his stooges, err, brothers. I knew the GWTW carrot 🥕 would be somewhere in here.

❌ Captain Obvious Is Oblivious ❌

“Hey, Boss, you’re not gonna like this.”

“This is suspicious as fuck.“

“Something’s not right… Something’s fishy as fuck.”

There’s a window, but surprise, surprise…it’s locked,

They’re all in on it together. I don’t want anything.

The two leave and the door closes. The key rattles and my heart squeezes. I’m locked in again.

Nothing about any of this is good,

“We can’t lose focus. That would be a big mistake.

How sloppy of me.

Good comeback

You know stuff about me, don’t you? You know who I am and what I am.

Clearly, some plot of shit is happening.”

To look for him, I’m gonna have to ask questions, meaning he’ll know we’re looking.

“This is a nightmare.”

🚨 🤦‍♀️ The speech patterns here leave me feeling like I’m trapped in a room full of pubescent kids screaming ‘aye, aye, Captain Obvious, you twatrot fucking imposter to Sergeant Oblivious.’ 🏴‍☠️

❌What planet are we on? ❌

Arabic writing all along the right side of his torso and left hip.

🚨 An ITALIAN mob boss sully his skin with ARABIC tattoos?

❌ Mobsters have happy thoughts? ❌

Right now, I’m the happiest motherfucker. I have my enemy’s daughter a captive in my house, and I’m on the precipice of watching Riccardo lose everything.

🚨What dark mafia fucker sits around bemusing like a Disney gangster over and over how he’s on top of the world 🙄. Yes, that’s rhetorical at this point.

❌ Mobster maids are cool AF in this book ❌

🚨They’re “friends” with the mob boss. They talk to the mob boss like he’s a petulant sibling unless he gives them “that look”🙄. They take the mob boss’s captive out for a friendly beach stroll and “hang out.” They share insider mob secrets with said captive … like small talk about syndicates and revenge motives intertwined with the biography of their mob boss family history.

For once the FMC and I are on the same page in response to all this…

Jesus Christ. I can’t believe what I’m hearing.

❌ Where’s my stationary bike?❌

This circles the same crazy as fuck thoughts over and over and over and over again until the reader is so sick of hearing it that it’s easy to not even question the progression. The FMC is all complacent. Then she wants to escape. Then she’s jealous. BAM… with no scenes or dialogue to prop it up, her character is suddenly musing about his OW and how she couldn’t ever love him if he touched others …. when did love and fidelity become a question for her, why, how? Last emotion she gave was the desire to escape. ZERO emo transitions exist in this book. No surprise that it only takes a couple chapters of BS dress fittings until she’s back to escape mode, but only after she submits to him … just to earn his trust, of course;)

❌ ZERO connection between reader and characters. ❌

On that note, I fall asleep.

👏 If only he never woke up.

🚨I could give two flying shits from the top of a sandcastle r/t what happens to any of these characters. Blow the book up and sweep the ashes away… that’s how little connection is built here.

❌ Grammar ❌

Do I really have to tell you that the technical writing here is bad? A blind man could throw commas like darts with better accuracy.

🙏CONCLUSION 🙏

DNF @50%

Other readers will skim the highlights of this long, tedious AF, exhausting review. The thoroughness here is for the author’s benefit. I doubt simply saying “this is bad” would convey how horrible this book looks in any portfolio.

This disaster tested my constructive criticism. It needs structural, content, copy, line, and mechanical editing down to the bare bones.

Every single line is a conflict to the book’s dark mafia romance labeling. This goes beyond mafia-lite. It’s the 🧚🏻‍♂️🦄💐🌈☀️☃️🍭🎪🧸🎀 version of a mob skit produced by Barney on the set of Little Red Riding Hood at a Mr. Rodger’s Neighborhood convention.

Just as book tastes vary, some people like donuts as hamburger buns. Weird, but personal tastes include such amendments to the concept of “normal.” Go for it. However, there are intrinsic wrongs in the universe, such as eating the Fugu fish’s ovaries and liver. It’s not something debatable for personal taste. One pinhead drop of tetrodotoxin neurotoxins to die, and there’s no antidote. This book is like a Fugu’s ovaries. It’s against the grain of nature…. Just as much as a mob boss tucking his hair behind his ear and yelling sorry, thanks, and please to everyone. Just as the Fugu’s organs can never be food, this book can never be considered- a dark mafia romance.

IF not classified as a dark mafia romance this would still be bad IMHO, but it wouldn’t be indigestible. Readers wanting the mafia-lite 2.0 🌺 power of a Disney tune against a Lifetime movie plot could enjoy this if they like to read on a stationary bicycle of a plot. But, when you label something as dark mafia, the expectation is not 🎀💐 surrounded by plot points that stick their little bitty toes in the shadow of dirty, nasty, evil shit before quickly jerking it back out like it was all a joke.

*0,5 starts*

This book is so incredibly lazy, so painfully stupid that I can't understand how the average is 4.21 starts out of 900+ reviews.

I just can't.

I will not go into details about the weak revenge plot (don't even get me started on the big plot twist ), or the lack of any character development and let's not even touch on the dubious consent and focus only on the technical writing of this book. In the first few pages I admit I was concentrated on understanding the characters and I did not pay as much attention to the actual rhythm or structure of the paragraphs, but as my interest quickly disseminated, I became more aware by Ms Summer's choice of words and tenses that gave the same symphony as a the classic nails-on-blackboard-scratch.

I'll just leave you with these absolute gems. Trust me, they sound just as bad in the context of the story.

She trusted me with trust.

I see red. That's the color I see before me.

I have one paddle now and I don't think it's going to do what two paddles would do.

Would Emelia do that? Go to the sea and die?

She's doing the worst thing she could do by screaming.

It started off pretty interesting and a bit hot bt the h and H but then it started to fizzle out for me. Plus the writing style was odd. The sentences ended weirdly or were worded oddly. Then when the hero even I was done. It shouldn't have gone that far. At that point I just didn't have the desire to read any farther.

Off to find another book to read....

Massimo is the mafia heir apparent and is saddled with a a virgin bride in retaliation for a slight against his family. Emelia has a love hate relationship with her husband as the murder and mayhem is occurring. Lots of twist and turns and sexy times through out the story. Fast paced and good start to a new series, can't wait for more.

Ruthless Prince has an anti-hero with a dark heart you will fall in love with!
******
Rating: 4 stars
Steam: 4 flames
Genre: Mafia / Enemies to Lovers / Dark
Standalone: Yes
******
Ruthless Prince is my first book by Faith Summers (Khardine Gray) and it won’t be my last. As a matter of fact I have already downloaded book 2, Dark Captor.

This tale is one of revenge, ruthlessness, betrayal, deceit, and secrets….so many secrets. I was expecting one of the twists, but not all of them...wowzer!

“I kept asking myself who the monsters were in this story. This nightmare fairytale. I wanted to know so badly because I didn’t know who to trust.” ~ Ruthless Prince

Massimo D'Agostino, our anti-hero, has been bent on revenge since his family lost everything they had to a monster of man named Ricardo Balesteri. Ricardo is the father of the beautiful and elusive Mafia Princess, Emelia.

Emelia has led a sheltered life, far from her father's business illegal business dealings. Until one day she is summoned to her father's office and she discovers her father has sold her to the D'Agostino family, to be married to Massimo.

Emelia is the epitome of purity, innocence, and naivety, whereas Massimo has blood on his hands and revenge in his heart. These two couldn’t be more opposite, and too say they are enemies when they meet is putting it lightly.

“She’s my stolen virgin bride. I took the princess, stole her from Daddy’s nest and watched him sign her away to me. Phase one complete.” ~ Ruthless Prince

This book had a suspenseful story, character growth, plot twists that threw me for a loop, and steam. Oh, and how could I forget the carnage...oh the grit was wonderful! Anti-hero, blood/grit, steam, and a story! Yep, that’s my dark heart’s crack! I enjoyed this and the ending was just… wow! Didn’t see that coming! Happy reading!

I was really sad that I had to give this book ⭐️⭐️ because I felt like it had a good storyline but I just could not deal with the Heroine. First of her inner dialogue was so whiny and she always said one thing and did the complete opposite. Secondly I don’t understand why they always wanna make the heroine a virgin but then once she has sex she’s and expert and can or is willing to do everything the hero tells her. Also I could not deal with a sex scene in every chapter. I like my smut as much as the next person but this was just to much it didn’t allow the story to progress. I was literally sitting here like can we get back to the storyline. The only thing that saved the story was the hero. Really liked his storyline and his need for vengeance. This is why I gave it 2 stars, which was such a shame because I really wanted this one to be a good one.

3.75⭐️ it’s a very generic mafia captivity book. like i’ve read it before and nothing was new. it was entertaining enough for me to keep on reading. the characters were okay as well. they had their moments but sometimes they both annoyed the hell out of me. i wanted Emelia to be more strong and not have to bend to Massimo by the snap of his fingers. i wanted Massimo to man tf up and push away his old sex partner but ofc his weak attempts at this is laughable. seriously. he’s the big bad mafia man but can’t be a fcking man and tell his old sex partner to leave him alone because he’s married and loves his wife. that was probably the only thing that annoyed me but it wasn’t too bad. wasnt a bad book, but wasn’t my favorite. very generic but it was written pretty well.

p.s. i loved Massimo’s friendship with Candace. that was cute. finally a man that can be friends with a woman and not have slept with her previously. Candace was a a sweetheart to Emelia. loved her.

Perfect!

Nobody does arranged marriage like Faith 😍

I loved Massimo and Emelia and their story was full of twists and unexpected turns!

Massimo is everything I love in a H, he sees what he wants and he takes it, but he quickly realises there's more to Emelia than meets the eye, she's far from just a pretty face, and Massimo gives himself a hard time trying to keep her at arm's length

Emelia is such a naive, innocent h and I loved her all the more for it, she knows who and what her father is but she tries to give him the benefit of the doubt, until she sees with her own eyes what a monster he is

Both characters' growth in this story was amazing, I loved being a part of their journey and I can't wait to read about the other characters we met and fell in love with along the way! 🖤
