This high-quality Spanish-language book can be enjoyed by fluent Spanish speakers as well as those learning the language, whether at home or in a classroom.
She rated this book. I usually ask her how she feels about this book. She doesn't feel it measures up to the series we usually read at nights. It was just okay for her based on her interaction with the book.
This is a sort read for beginner readers. Axel the truck races on the beach, racing against the waves and the fish (fish at the beach?) - and against other trucks. There is much Zoom Zooming to read which children are sure to enjoy. Bright illustrations.
The only thing I really cared for with this book was the last few pages where it defined the body parts of the monster truck and tools to work on a vehicle.
Synopsis:"Axel is a little truck with big, big wheels who loves speed and adventure. In Axel the Truck: Beach Race by J.D. Riley, first in a series, Axel’s going to find out if he’s fast enough to win an off-road race by the ocean against some bigger trucks. The monster trucks zoom down the sand, but Axel has a great—and very loud!—engine and the heart of a winner."
My Review: This is a great book for beginning readers, simple sentences with images to back them up and help figure out any difficult words. Didn't have much to do with a beach race if you ask me, other than one or two pages, but Munchkin still loved seeing the trucks. The best part is the end where they breakdown all the parts of the truck and tools, great for those little gear nuts wanting to follow in some big footsteps.
Axel is a monster truck doing what monster trucks do, drive in the mud, race, go to the beach, and have sand washed away after the beach journey. Nice two page illustration of basic monster truck parts, including the lug nuts.
My 4 year old was a little disappointed there wasn't really a big race at the beach a la Lightning McQueen. This is more about Axel's day at the beach. As such, there isn't really a conflict or a lesson. My kids thought this was kind of boring.
For a book called Beach Race, this story did not have much about a race in it (only three short pages). Most of the story was about Axel driving around town.
