A legendary creature guards a lost city of wonders.

When a satellite photograph reveals the location of a legendary lost city deep in the Congo River basin, journalist Mackenzie Moore knows it is only a matter of time before its secrets are revealed to the world. In order to get there first, she needs someone capable and crazy enough to take her there.

Treasure hunter and former Navy SEAL Bones Bonebrake loves adventure and hates boredom. But an expedition into one of the world’s most dangerous and remote locations might turn out to be more than he bargained for. Somewhere in the depths of the Dark Continent lies Mbanza Mpimpá, the City of Night. But this seemingly abandoned city does not surrender its secrets easily, and intruders are not welcome in the Lost City!

Short, Fun, And Typical Maddock-verse... Without The Full Team. If you're looking for a short taste of an Indiana Jones / Dirk Pitt type adventure... you've found one. This is a very quick read at under 150 pages and features a bit more straightforward of an adventure for one Uriah "Bones" Bonebrake than is typical of the larger Maddock and Bones books with the full team. It will be interesting to see if at least one of the revelations here plays a role within the larger universe, but it is always fun to see Bones in his element, with or without the supporting cast. Just a great, fun bit of escapism to take your attention for an afternoon without demanding too much of your time. Very much recommended.

A Bones Bonebrake # 4 adventure in the Congo. Short book. Cast includes a grouchy and unlikeable journalist from the National Geographic. There are unknown creatures that resemble dinosaurs and apes. And a lost city that is supposed to have a lot of gold. In spite of all this, the story didnt "grab" me. Not sure why.

Loved this adventure. Mack was a difficult personality but she went well with the story, and Bones was his usual "fly by the seat of your pants" self. This made for a fun and funny read with a bit of eye rolling involved.

Love Bones, he puts so much humor into all the scary parts. All I hope is never to meet any Blood Monkeys. Looking forward to reading more about Bones.

I enjoyed the read. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is creatures in the jungle, like there is in this story. Only time will tell, when all the Amazon is explored.

In this book we join Bones while he helps a journalist search for a lost and hidden city in the middle of the djungle in Congo. It is a little bit weird that I like these books as much as I do, but I think they are a kind of guilty pleasure. Also, they are potato chips books, as in you always want one more. The characters of Maddock and Bones are very, very stereotypical ex navy seals, and somewhat one dimensional. Each book is based on a historical myth, and they are sometimes a little bit repetitive. But the action and adventure is great and very fast paced, and the books are enjoyable.
