Every woman has turned into an aggressive monster, and Kevin is desperate to know if this includes his twin sister. Can he survive a journey across a country of dangerous, rabid females to find her – and will she just kill him if he does?
Women across the world are turning on men – becoming cannibalistic, hostile killers determined to maim and murder.
Kevin’s twin sister is 400 miles away, and he is desperate to know if she has become one of them.
What follows is a horrifying, disgusting, and down-right weird story of a man journeying across a country of violent beasts, desperate to find the person who means most to him.
Will he find her in time? Will she be like all the other women? Or will he be murdered and torn apart before he gets there?
This is the disturbing and occasionally humorous horror book from horror master Rick Wood. If you like bizarre horror, man-eating women, and splatterpunk horror novels of the 70s & 80s, you will LOVE this book…
( This book contains graphic language and gratuitous violence. It is also meant to be pro-feminism, and is hugely ironic. Please, only read if you are as screwed up as I am – Rick Wood, the author)
Well this was a hoot. Think of 28 Days Later, but only with women being affected. We never get a clear answer as to why women just lose their minds, but we get some really great insight towards the end of the story. And there are some other potential theories tossed around in earlier parts of the story, too. So we have Kevin and his twin sister, Kaylee. She goes off to college, marking the first time these inseparable siblings are away from one another. And shortly after she leaves, the world falls into chaos. All the women lose their minds and start eating men, acting like savage zombies. And Kevin is now determined to find his sister, who he needs to reconnect with. But, with her being hours and hours away, across a sea of maniacal ladies dining on men like a delicious chicken dinner, he's in for the adventure of a lifetime. So we find Kevin in some really interesting, life-threatening situations, which were all really enjoyable. My favorite two are when he decides to pee on broccoli in a convenience store (Why the broccoli?!), and when he and his father enter the wing of the hospital where their wife/mother works. The visual with the infants is burned into my brain. Just pure nightmare fuel. And the story doesn't jump around too much, only being broken up by excerpts from a podcast that occurs after the events of the story. They're pretty short, and I thought introduced some nice interludes to the main attraction. There was a decent amount of violence, but nothing too nasty. Pretty much your basic zombie sort of fare, which I thought was a good choice. This was my first experience with a Rick Wood book and I must say that I had a pretty darn good time.
This is my note to myself to Google rounders. I gathered it's a sport. With a bat. And possibly some kind of hat. I almost thought of baseball, but the MC Kevin really downed it as a boring sport, something about it's for children in PE class when the teacher has nothing better to do. That's the thing about reading books that take place in foreign countries. Some things go over my head, such as this sport. Yeah, I know it has no bearing on the story, but yeah it bugs me. Onward, I loved the premise of the story. Women attacking men. Yeah, that's a nice little role reversal taken to extremes Here's a problem I had with the story. Its in first person. Cool. But the term fails me at the moment, but is it the third wall or third barrier? Or something like that when the author speaks directly to the reader? In one instance it was the character acknowledging he had no way of knowing what was going on in other locations, even though he pretty much told us what was happening where he wasn't. Not a big deal. But then the author did it again, apologizing for doing that. Then, again. I guess that's the comedy part of the story? Also, the main character even acknowledged he was fictional. Yeah, minor things slightly irked me, so I only removed one star. With this having splatter on the cover, I expected more blood and less humor. My bad. Still, the story is good overall. The punk aspect was totally great
Decent zombie-(ish) story, but it's nothing that I haven't seen or read plenty of times before.
This is the second book that I read from this author, and although I loved his other book, "Shutter House", I noticed that in both books he seems to be a bit heavy-handed with his social commentary at times.
It would've been nicer if he was a bit more subtle, so it didn't feel like I was being preached at.
“Psycho B*tches : A Splatter punk Horror Novel,” by Rick Wood, was recommended to me by @marcyreads. I love slasher anything. Once I saw the cover, I knew that I needed to read it.
“Psycho B*tches” is a story about 19-year-old Kevin, who is on a journey to rescue his twin sister from an apocalyptic world where women go feral. Watch out men!! Women have become ruthless killers.
This book was insane. It was filled with gore, guts, and tension.. It is a really solid story perfect for slasher fans. It piqued my interest from the first page until the last.
There are 9 books in this Blood Splatter series. Lots of fun ahead of me.
This one surprisingly hit me in the feels. First time reading Rick Wood’s work and it won’t be my last. Really enjoyed our main character and his journey to find his sister as the women in the world turn almost feral. There were some really intense moments throughout which kept me super engaged. I found the writing to be pretty solid throughout up until our closing “chapter”, it felt a little info dumpy. Nonetheless, I did like the message it was delivering. Definitely recommend.
I went into this book completely blind and not knowing anything about it or the author. A perchase made just on the cover art alone, and boy did it pay off! I loved everything about this book, from the character development, the writing style, the splatterpunk aspects, and everything in between. It’s action packed, funny and brutally gory. Full marks! I’ll 100% be checking out the other books in the Blood Splatter series! I’m one happy customer!
,,we live in a society where it’s unsafe for men to leave their homes. If we were to leave […] we risk being abused or killed. […] imagine such a world. It’s horrific.“
On a random day, woman seem to start behave like men.. catcalling men.. undressing them with their eyes, they become much stronger then their opposite sex, which of course turns into brutal acts of killing.
How could we live in a world overpowered and abused by woman..
I know I'm usually into the extreme horror, but this author has a fascinating imagination and creativity with a storyline that not only has you captivated from the get go. But draws you in so deeply that you glide through the pages soaking up the the words. This read is no exception it takes you in, immersing you into the world of what would happen. Kevin is a great 19yr old character and learning life through his eyes as a quiet insecure young man, that has to make quick decisions and be more forthcoming in his actions. I can't say to much or I feel I'll spoil your reading. But this was a great inspiring read that anyone can enjoy. I'd definitely recommend.
This story kept me reading. The emotion felt as Kevin first sees death close to home before heading out to help a family member is well written. Plus the action is done in a way that's not over the top allowing you to actually picture it.
So far Something happens and was men turn cannibalistic seemly over night.... Start attacking very male and see, murder them and then eating them... Very good book amongst the slaughter the story centres around a set of twins; one male one female; separated by 2 countries and male feels she is ok and sets off to 'rescue' her, but does she need to be rescued?
The story revolves around 19 year old Kevin and his journey across country to rescue his twin sister Kaylee in a apocalyptic world where woman have gone feral. He doesnt know what he will find when he reaches her but his twin intuition tells him that Kaylee is ok. Psycho Bitches is a awesome and different take on a zombie story and the way the characters are written keeps you hooked til the end. This is the first book I have read by Rick Wood and it wont be my last.
Bit of a mixed bag, it felt at times like this was a book version of someone saying "yes... but not all men are like that" it felt forced at times.
Ignoring that, was it a good read? Yes, did I read it all in one sitting? Yes, will I read more of this author? Yes, it kept me engaged with the story, and wanting to find out what happened next, I bought this in an omnibus edition with two other stories, so I will be interested to read those next.
Really well written book. Women all over are attacking men . Abusing them them toying with the then killing and eating them . The shoe is on the other foot and how will the male of the species cope ? Really interesting idea full of blood guts and tension . Would recommend this book.
I thought this was fantastic, it read a bit like a feminist Shaun of the Dead! Only dropping a star as I just couldn’t fathom the whole rounders bat bit, I didn’t understand how he managed to control Kaylee that way…..
