“Death is the end only if you believe the story is yours.”

A real creepshow of a graphic novel that conjured up similarities to Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the messed up family dynamics.

I really loved the author’s epilogue at the end that explained where the idea for this story came from (spoiler alert: it’s also messed up). A Chicago family that ran a cemetery and reused graves by digging up the dead and dumping them into a body pit is way too cool of a story not to spark some macabre ideas.

The art in this book was also sublimely weird and out there in a very dope way.

Komiks který jsem si koupil docela omylem, zrovna jsem měl nákupní horečku a řekl jsem si že si do košíku hodím prostě úplně něco random. Logicky u mě zafungovala obálka ženy jak objímá mrtvolu :D

Poté co mi komiks došel tak jsem tak trochu vyděšeně polkl, jelikož na první prolítnutí to nevypadalo moc vábně, hlavně ty karikaturní obličeje tomu moc nepomáhali apod.

Jakmile jsem se ale do toho začetl tak jsem byl naprosto uštknutý a to nejen kresbou která mi přišla naprosto geniální spolu se skvěle surrealisticky laděným coloringem, ale také uchylným hororovým příběhem. Ten pojednává o dvou sourozencích kteří se vydali navštívit poprvé hrob svého otce na kterého jeden z nich nemá žádné vzpomínky a jeho ségra má zase na něj jen ty nejhorší. Po chvilce dojíždí do podivného sídla které obývají ještě divnější obyvatelé.

Je škoda že po pár stránkách už scénárista odkrývá své karty a nenechal třeba ještě jeden sešit na build up divností na místním hřbitově. To co se ale po chvilce začne dít je opravdu až skoro morbidně magický trip o kterém bohužel moc říkat nechci.

Tady je fakt nejlepší když o tom nic nevíte a jen se necháte unášet imaginací týmu který za tímto stojí. Asi bych mohl říct že to tak trochu pracuje s tím jaký mají na člověka účinky vdechování dýmu z upálených mrtvol apod. Přičemž se tu dá i mluvit o určité parafrázi na drogovou závislost.

Takže jo, tohle byl parádní malej horor.

PS: Třešničkou na tom je playlist který autor zveřejnil a ve kterém je hudba která ho při tvorbě inspirovala. Tohle by mohlo dělat více autorů.

this was a bit of a mess. i'm still not 100% sure what i read, which is a bummer because there was so much potential. the big problem for me was that neither the story line nor the graphics were clear. if one had been, i wouldn't have cared if the other wasn't. it wouldn't even have to be 100% clear, just stronger than what was presented. it was just too hard to follow what they were trying to do while working with both. i'll just rewatch repo.
