What a load of utter rubbish. I have no idea how this book was reviewed and published. Full of outdated myths like “starvation mode” (it doesn’t exist) and amazing ways they allege the rules of thermodynamics can be broken. Unscientific clap trap, avoid at all costs.

Not convinced keto is a good idea, but this is generally full of quite sensible tips, and helped motivate me start intermittent fasting, which is really working for me.

You should buy and read this book for your own sake, and for the sake of anyone else you love and care about.

If you are looking to lose weight for good, look no further than this book. I was given a free copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. I have read a great number of books on this topic, but never have I sat down and read one cover-to-cover as I did with The Diet Whisperer. Kudos to Dr. Paul Barrington Chell and Dr. Monique Hope-Ross for sharing their knowledge and expertise with the world in this incredible book.

I started reading this morning and couldn't put it down. There are very few, if any, non-fiction books I have ever read from cover-to-cover in one sitting.

It shattered a few of my long-held misconceptions about calories and also confirmed some of my suspicions about why diets don't work. If you implement the easy-to-understand lifestyle and eating change suggestions, you will not just lose weight. You will feel so much better, and isn't that what we all long for? To not only look good but feel good?

Ten years ago, I lost 100 pounds, and kept it off for eight years. Then I had surgery on my knee, and my lifestyle and exercise habits changed radically. My weight crept back up, and even though I didn't come close to regaining all the weight I'd lost, I felt despair at the loss of feeling healthy and energetic, and the now limited mobility I had, made me wonder if I could ever lose those extra pounds again. I recently began experimenting with cutting sugar out of my diet (and if you'd told me years ago, I would one day choose not eat sugar, I would have thought you were delusional) and was delighted to discover that after only a few days, my joints seemed much less stiff, and the improvement just continued with each passing day. I've never enjoyed eating breakfast, and yet the diet gurus all say how "important" that is. I started combining breakfast and lunch, or skipping breakfast, and found my desire for healthy foods strangely increased, while my desire to eat processed carbohydrates diminished. My weight has continued to drop steadily once more.

Having read this book, I now understand why. I can't wait to try some of the other suggestions in this book and to follow the Diet Whisperer Plan, because I want this time to be the one that allows me to reach and maintain a healthy weight for the rest of my life.

It has a wonderful glossary at the back which is very helpful. Even though this book is written by two doctors, they present the information in an easily understandable way, with informative and helpful diagrams throughout.

Rather than only focusing on the physical, they emphasise the importance of mental health and lifestyle and how our emotional well-being or lack thereof also contributes to the "big picture."

This book should be available in schools, health-care-facilities and libraries everywhere.

This is an outstanding book. I read it in 2 days which is a little too fast so I'm going to go back and read it again. It's a very refreshing read and does not pander to being pc and the avoidance of challenging the obese or accepting it as a new normal.

I'm not one for diets at all but just attempt some form of healthy eating as well as a lot of running. However in early middle age there is the inevitable middle age spread which will not shift no matter how much running I do. This book was reviewed on the radio and I thought I would give it a read as a last chance to shift the visceral fat.

It's written by two eye doctors who gave up their day job to concentrate on the book and write about the obesity epidemic and that diets DON'T work or they work initially and then the pounds come back on. The first half of the book is the road to obesity and the second half the road to permanent weight loss.

They discuss the historical change in diets especially in the past 100 years to a massively increased refined and super refined carbohydrate consumption away from fat and protein. One eureka moment is the role of Insulin and Insulin resistance and a switch to the consumption of fats in our diets. There is information on Blue Zones in the world, gut health, telomeres, metabolic syndrome and the fact that our genes are responsible for 70% of obesity, nurture is the rest.

There is a high level of fascinating medical detail which is extremely well explained. The understanding of this can lead to a lifestyle change and your eating habits. It's an intelligent, straight forward to the point book aimed to make you feel good and for the long term. There are no simple solutions to diet control only intelligent choices and it's already made a big difference to my approach and food choices. Also he did not give up red wine..

This book takes you through all the medical science of both food and your body.. a lot of which is missing with all diet fads. In order to choose the correct diet you need to understand your body and what is happening internally before understanding the external effects!
There is a lot of of medical terms and tables of which can be difficult to comprehend so it took me a few times after reading paragraphs several times.
Each chapter provides a summary list for refreshing which are extremely useful!
It is a book that I will go back to and read over and over... as a references book rather than read it and then allow it to collect dust on my bookshelf.
The changes will take some planning but with the motivation provided within the pages from both authors is not out of reach!

The book is obviously divided into 2 parts. The first is explaining the science and the next is the plan or the process of losing weight.
The first part is kinda interesting with all the biochemistry and physiology related information about food and our body. Each chapter ends with notes that summarise the things from the chapters.
The second part is where is kinda gets complicated. The process needs to be smooth but seems very complicated and too many ratios. Also a bit restrictive and not very flexible as lots of options mentioned were not viable for me and hence would be difficult to follow.
Overall an okay read. I think maybe 8t can get better if they smoothen out the process part a little more.

The doctors provide a comprehensive background to weight loss and the effects of different foods and nutrients on our bodies. I had no trouble following the science behind their ideas. However, once I reached the section of implementing the diet, I got lost. I can't follow a complicated diet based on grams and ratios, where I don't recognize many of the foods I'm allowed to eat. I can't consume full-fat milk. I don't know if I'm lactose intolerant, but milk doesn't agree with me, and neither do vegetables.
I will use some of the doctors' tips like no snacking between meals and what foods to avoid. But I need a simpler plan.
