I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person who thinks the writing and way this story is playing out is horrible. I'm only in about 30 pages and Im Thankful I only spent $3 on this, although, had I known how bad it was, I wouldnt have spent fifty cents.
Liked it at First...but that Quickly Changed...Extremely Racist among other things.
Out of the hundreds of books I have reviewed this is only the second time I have given a one star to a book. I don't like giving or writing negative reviews. But with this book I feel its a must.
When the book first started I liked it. I thought it was going to be a nice steamy read with a bad boy. I was wrong. It got weird quickly...names changing, going back and forth between first and third person. I noticed other reviewers have already mentioned these things so I am not going to in depth with that stuff. The most major thing I had a problem with was the racism. I kept thinking as I was reading "is this book extremely racist or is it just me?" Im usually not sensitive about these type of things. I read a lot of hardcore or naughty books not just meaning the sex (erotica) but the themes in general. So I thought I would check out the reviews and see if anyone else felt the same way or if it was just me imagining it. Guess I wasn't the only one. I thought well whatever I might as well finish it and I thought the plot was fairly good so I continued on. From there the racism got worse and worse. Keep in mind that this is the 'good guys' saying this stuff. I mean the bad guys would be more understandable but the good guys....really??? The author got creative with with her Mexican food. I will give her that! By the time she used the very offensive term f*aggot I had enough. I mean can't you write a book with out using such offensive and derogatory terms. Swear words don't bother me at all. Swear away!! If you want to call a bratty woman a b*itch... fine. But it does get old and offensive when you just keep referring to women or that girl in general as 'b*itches'
By the middle of the book I also didn't like the heroine Nicole. Her inner dialogue was ridiculous and Lucy the other girl isn't even worth mentioning. I did like our hero Jase for the most part until it got to the end...
!!!!MAJOR Spolier ahead!!!!
The story ends with the 'gang' killing the bad guy. Everyone has to shoot him...even Nicole. The 'good girl' turns into a killer basically over night. Doesn't feel any remorse and has no lingering aftereffects from helping kill someone. Shortly after her and Jase are ready to have sex and during the middle of the act Jase says to her "You like getting it from the big, bad killer?" Seriously. Any like able feelings I had for Jace killed it for me right there. Oh, and I cant forget Nicole responds (in her head) " I'm a killer now too."
***I'm sorry to say I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. I do feel bad for leaving such a negative review but I thought this book had so many positive reviews that the other side to be heard a bit. Potential readers also need to be warned that this book is racist and can potentially be very offensive to others....especially anyone that is hispanic. If you ended up liking this book that is PERFECTLY all right. We don't all like or love the same things and I thinks thats great. Different views need to be out there!!! = ) It is especially helpful in leaving well rounded out reviews. ***
Entonces...
Talk about unbelievable nonsense. Not one ounce of this book felt like it could ever really happen.
So you are bored with life so you ask your roommate to take you to a motorcycle gangs party. When they come to pick you up things fall part fast. They are attacked and shot at, but have no fear cause they are invincible, they just need to take a detour. You aren't scared beyond belief. This is kind of exciting. You end up at a safe house and wait it out.
I'm sorry I just couldn't stomach this book. I don't mind make believe stuff, but this was beyond that! I not only that but what is the storyline??? Where is the meat I can sink my teeth into?? I want to follow the story wondering what is going to happen, but that isn't possible with this book.
The first book in the Sons of Mayhem series by Nikki Pink. College student Nicole decides she wants to walk on the wild side like her roommate, Lucy, and gets on the back of the motorcycle belonging to Sons of Mayhem gang member, Jase. But she gets more than a night of partying. Someone has it out for the motorcycle club and it appears they are targeting Jase.
A little darker than I normally like but I did like it. Written in both first person from Nicole's point of view and third person from Jase and others' point of view.
I didn't love this book and I didn't hate this book. What I liked was the twist and turns of the story and that there was story. I read this as a novel rather than individual books because that just frustrates me. At the end all the questions were answered as to the plot twists however there were some areas that I feel need further writing on. It just doesn't seem completed. So if there is another novel coming out hopefully it will be just one book rather than several 20 something pages.
What I didn't really care for was Nicole. I couldn't get her going from really good girl from good family to jumping in to a MC club and experiencing what she did so suddenly. It was a little too much, too soon. Honestly, if I was on a Motorcycle with someone I just met and someone was shooting at me - um - not seeing that guy again. It was a little far out for a character to change so quickly. I think that should have been developed a little more. There are also points in the book where she has to make some more and ethical decisions and I'm pretty shocked that a girl with her background makes the decisions she does.
Anyway, the book has a good story, some humor, lots of MC club activity and over all it was good but if the realtionship between Nicole and Jase went a little slower and was more developed I would have liked it much better.
Again ... some things seem unfinished so I'm wondering if there will be another book.
This was the first book I've read by this author, and I will go on to read the next book. I liked the story, the characters, the twisted plot...it was a good MC story. One thing the I didn't like was the fact that the story was a full novel, but it only took up 21% and the rest of the book was made up of cross promo with chapters from other books. This is a personal dislike and it gets on my nerves.
If you like a twisted MC novel, this is a book for you.
No chemistry, predictable I downloaded this as a free read, so I wasn't expecting thing too much. There was actually a story here which was refreshing in a way, but predictable. There wasn't chemistry between the two main characters and the sex scenes weren't great. Bad editing in many places....wouldn't recommend and doubtful to read the rest of the series.
Nicole is looking for a change and some fun when she asks her friend and roommate Lucy, if she can accompany her to a biker gang’s party. During her walk on the wild side she meets Jase, the club’s vice president. Nicole enjoys her walk on the wild side until things with the club get rough. She’s soon second guessing herself and the choices she’s made to have gotten there, and thinking about the choices still left to make to either; embrace her new self and all that may come with it or what she will have to give up if she goes back to her old self.
I really liked Nicole, and I can see myself as her, bored from the everyday norm that is the college life, looking for something, anything to make it even a little bit interesting. Her decision to go with Lucy is an impulsive one, something that she’s both afraid of and excited to embrace after having a very emotional night and ending her boring relationship. She’s ready to let loose for one night, to have some fun. To her surprise she likes what her impulsive decision has brought on, she believes she’s found herself. I admire her for having the courage and going after what she wants.
I didn’t like Lucy much. She’s a very promiscuous girl wanting to be degraded the way she was. She was excited for it. Although I was a bit sad for her, when things with Brodie didn’t go the way I thought they were leading. I felt deep down that maybe she and Brodie had made a deep connection and they possibly could have become something serious despite Lucy wanting to become a “party chick”. Her nickname “Juicy” is pretty cute.
Jase, he reminded me of Jax Tellar from Sons of Anarchy in fact the whole novel felt like I was watching an episode or two of SoA but I’ll touch on that below. Though he was more loyal to the club, the position of vice president suited him well. I felt he struggled in the beginning with what to do with Nicole, mostly because of his avoidance of no strings attached relations, but then again maybe not because they were getting it on within the first forty five minutes of meeting each other. I really don’t know what he was thinking there.
Brodie’s short perspective provided me with so much more insight on the relationship between him and Lucy. He was really sweet despite our very first introduction of him being not very positive. He really turned out to be a favorite character even though he wasn’t mentioned very much. I really think he and Lucy could have been good together.
Like I mentioned before I felt like I was watching SoA. It was similar in some instances, lots of violence but different in a way to. As much as the story focused on the club it was also focused on Nicole and Jase’s relationship. I felt the romance plot shared a spot up front if not being first and foremost. There was not a whole lot of sex but there was enough, what I liked was that it wasn’t vulgar, and when the scenes did come up they weren’t very in your face about it.
All in all it was a good book. I’m not dying to read it again right away but I’ll keep it around for when I’m in the mood. There’s a good chance I’ll be reading the next book in the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
So basically this is a book that tells you that torturing and killing people, selling drugs and treating women like they're expendable is ok. Not just ok, even - something to be proud of and excited by.
At the end of the book, there are lists of reviews, many of which are all "yay kick-ass heroine!" If agreeing to lie in court so that someone you barely know can get away with murder, feeling excited about shooting someone or kicking them in the head (but who cares about that - they're just junkies and they're expendable), raving about the vibrations of a motorcycle while someone is shooting at you (hello? Don't you think there are more important things you could be worrying about?), feeling proud of a mass-murder because it was deserved and omg your boyfriend pulled it off - how great is he?, being so unconcerned about the murder of someone else that you're only bothered that it doesn't happen in your own backyard... If all of that is kick-ass then I'm a weakling and proud.
What I wonder about even more is that said incredibly idiotic heroine (how she manages to get up in the morning, never mind graduate summa cum laude is beyond me) is that she's called Nicole. And, well, the author is called Nikki. Do you see where I'm going with this?
On the plus side - and there is only one - linguistically this was ok. There were a few errors, but not anything huge (apart from writing "wanta" instead of "wanna" which was quite irritating but ho hum). I'd like to say the same about the formatting but as it goes there was only one line per page and the whole thing looked much like this:
Ok wow I am not sure how to start….Firstly, I did not absolutely hate this book and I believe the story has potential but the whole book seemed more like a rough draft then a finished product. There were just some areas of the story that needed improving. There were areas that just needed more details and fewer details in others. The story is about this college girl Nicole who apparently has come to the conclusion that her life is too boring so she decides to go with your college roommate to a Sons of Mayhem party where she eventually meets and falls for Jase the VP for the Sons of Mayhem. Unknown to Nicole and Jase whilst their love is flourishing the club Sons of Mayhem is falling apart at the seams due to corruption within. The first night she is with Jase she is shot at which really just set the pace for the story for me. It all seemed farfetched, the story starts off so quick and it almost tapers off. I get bored with my life as I assume most people do but if I was with someone and I was getting shot at I think I would be done with that sort of fun. This very innocent girl goes from being straight edge college student to this life of crime and doesn’t blink an eye seemed rather strange in my opinion. The love story and the underlying corruption that is taking place with in the story were good it just is missing an edge to keep me interested. I finished the book and I wouldn’t say it was complete waste I just wished for a little more.
I previously read this story when it came out as 4 different short installments , let me tell ya that I was pisseddd off because I had to wait for the next one, I got anxious and when the next one came out I was happy. Now I re-read it as a whole and I loved it even more. Nikki has created an amazing story with The Sons of Mayhem. The twists and turns, the action are to die for. I love the way Nicole evolves into what her real self is. Gotta love Jase and most deff gotta love the Sons. A great MC story can´t wait for the next one!!
Nikki Pink does a good job of telling the story of the Sons of Mayhem MC. There were things that I liked in this book (the plot twists and unexpected turns that the story took) and things that I didn't (Nicole). For a supposedly "good girl college student", Nicole was juvenile and her thought process just didn't add up to what we were led to believe about her. There was nothing that seemed good about either her or Lucy to me in this book. They were both irresponsible and just downright slutty. Not a fan of that so it took away from my personal enjoyment of the book but some others may be okay with it.
All I can say about this book is that it is a parents' worst nightmare. It was unrealistic in it's portrayal of the heroine. She was a "good girl" who seemed to handle a lot of "bad" situations really well. Really too well. Maybe she is a bit of a sociopath.
It's a good book to read if you like bikers, tattoos, guns, no morals, etc.
I'll give this 3.5 stars overall since I read it in its original form of 4 short novellas and I gave two 3stars and two 4stars. I didn't think there was enough Jase and Nicole for my liking. I'll read more of this series.
I truly love a good MC book but it has to be well written, with the angst and the roughness that comes with such a gritty bunch of Anti heroes, they have to be believable, the story has to grab me right from the start, I read enough to tell whether it's going to be a slow burn or straight up and in your face, so when I found this and the following 3 books in the series free I read the synopsis, it sounded fantastically good but I checked out some of the reviews and they very mixed and this made me pause, I am a blogger and reviewer myself, so I do understand that not everything is to everyone's taste I had left it on my kindle for a few days and today I decided to tackle my ever growing TBR pile and this was sitting there so thought why not. I have to say upfront that I actually agree with most of the reviews, the good and the bad, it's not at all well written there are a lot of mistakes. I bleeding loved Jase but Nicole I found confusing, once again another book that has failed with a much needed more spent on her character development, she went from one extreme to the other very quickly, too quickly for me to find believable. Old ladies were mentioned but where were they? After Jase my favourite character had to be the mysterious Gauge and I'm hoping for more of him in future books. The book did hold my attention till the end which gives it the 3 star rating, there was enough of a plot to make it interesting and despite the fact that I really didn't like Nicole I liked the 'romance' between her and Jase, I think that has more to do with how much I loved Jase's character I wanted him to be happy, personally I would have loved more Jase and Nicole after all this is their story and we didn't get much of them when they weren't having sex. I suppose it's like a lot of books which belong in a series the lead book seems to have some of the best characters but not a lot of story while laying the ground works for books that follow completely forgetting that this is the lead book and that it needs to be a belter of a book or people will not bother with the rest, if the fact that I got them free I would not have entertained the rest. To many authors who write a series fail to deliver on the lead book, I want more of the characters one of the best ones that did this was Jordan Maries Savage Brothers MC, with the story of Dragon and Nicole, she wrote two about them. Any way the book deserves the 3 stars it did keep me interested but with a bit more work It would have risenSons of Mayhem
Nicole finds her life boring, so when her friend suggests she goes to a MC party with her she agrees, ending up on Jase the VP’s bike, towards the club. Jase gives her an amazing orgasm like no one else, then ends up shooting two men before heading back to the club. When they get to the club with meetings and trying to find out what’s going on, at the end of the night, after Jase tells her he doesn’t want to share her, Nicole ends up falling asleep, only to wake with Jase, again interrupted by the sound of sirens. After one of their brothers are killed they realise that it is someone playing them. When the club goes in lockdown Nicole and her friend are taken back to the dorms. When they get back after some rough sex, Nicole wakes up alone. Jase sees Nicole again and asks a favour of her that involve her having to lie for him. Things don’t go as planned the biker and the good girl have to find there way back to each other if they can. Although I enjoyed the book I did find it hard to follow at times when it jumped from one person to another frequently.
Now, I understand this is 'fiction', and many MC romance books are somewhat inaccurate, but S.O.M fell so far outside the realm of reality that it made this book a DNF for me. Actually, I probably would have put up with it if the writing and editing was a little better.
"He walked towards them confidently, not running or walking". (Sooo, he what? Flew? While Walking? WT?)
"When I'd first scene him enter I would have believed it in an instant. (*cringes* SEEN)
Bigfella looked at the octor, "Why'd they contact you?" (I do believe the word is Doctor.)
Just bad editing, poor writing, cliche plot, implausible character reactions and emotions. Definitely not a high paced, complex, or emotional read. Not even an average read for me. It was a weak read and I couldn't make it past 6%. Sorry.
The Club starts off with Nicole beginning to believe her life has become too boring as she witnesses her college roommate Lucy come home from her extracurricular activities with the local bikers. Deciding to take a leap, she catches a ride with Jase, a VP of Sons of Mayhem. However it's a literal jump headfirst into the MC world, as she and Jase get chased by a local gang. This one motorcycle ride not only brings together Jase and Nicole, but it also starts to change who Nicole is. As Jase and Nicole aka "Sweetness" journey through the ups and downs of MC life, nothing is what it seems.
I really enjoyed this book. I saw there were actually no reviews on KU, so I worried about what I would stumble upon here. And honestly, this was a good MC book. Not too heavy, not too light. This Goldilocks was satisfied 😌👌🏽❤️
If you like(d) Sons of Anarchy then you will like this. Many of the characters even seem to be based off of SOA characters. This story has a lot more to do with MC goings on then the romance. There is no mushy stuff, more liked "Hey, this chick can hang with the big dogs, without being a wimpy bitch." Also some hot sex, but that is not the majority of the story line. The club is under attack, unfortunately it's an internal attack, and revenge is sweet.
I look forward to reading on with these characters. It fills in the gap my brain has from missing SOA!
This book took me 3 tries to get through it. Not sure why I did not just DNF. The editing was horrible, there were a lot of grammatical errors and typos. This book lacked chemistry and there was just a lot of negative things going on. I have already purchased the second book in the series because I love a good MC story however I am not sure I will ever read it.
Honestly what's not to love Bikes Bikers Romance Spice Danger And Decite
I love a MC romance and my god did this tick all the boxes. All I could ask for is more scenes of them riding as a club or alone. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading. (I may have a weakness for mc and Mafia romances with morally grey main characters)
Excellent, a great beginning to a new to me series. I absolutely loved Jase and Nicole’s story ❤️❤️❤️ so much chaos, deception and disloyalty but thank goodness it was all uncovered and the truth was revealed. A definite page turner and very entertaining. 100% recommend this book to everyone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ you will not be disappointed 😎🖤
Brilliant page turner I couldn’t put down. Loved all of the characters and the journeys each book took me on and how the characters crossed over into each individual book. Can’t wait for the next instalment of this series
