laurie colwin is an amazing and undervalued short story writer. well-known for her cooking/housekeeping memoirs, colwin is a master of scene and sense of place. she creates vivid worlds swiftly and so tenderly. my dad gave me the 1974 european hardback for my 16th birthday, and it was one of my most treasured belongings until. i. lost. it.
